It came out of nowhere. You get to fight the original's cast and a much harder vide

Judging from the ???, that's probably Galdera on even more steroids.

        >You get to fight the original's cast and a much harder vide
They better both be full all 8 at once fights. I know that the mechanic was meant to be a surprise finale thing but I want more of it, and this is a great excuse to add it.

Sadly no since the noble and not-noble path action characters are split.

Now that's a damn shame. I'll still give it a whirl at some point. I'd wager they're Galdera-leveled so I'll have to grind up a bit but still, neat addition. It'd be funny if they added the reverse to Octopath 1 while they were at it.

I think I'm going to wait a couple turns then wipe out the enemy with a max boost.
And fiddle with some gimmick enemy for a minute until I find the sequence that permanently breaks it every turn.

what's the better one? octopath 1 or 2?

      Anonymous

2, overall. Mechanically and with it's QoL, it mogs the first game.
It's practically unanimous other than a person's taste over the OST, characters, stories, etc.

Octopath 1 was not good. I'm surprised anyone bought Octopath 2 due to how annoying Octopath 1 was by the time you finished it. I'm even more surprised they bothered to give it an update. The Octopath gacha must be EoS soon for them to do something like this.

      Probably.
OR it's to coincide with the announcement that the first game's being port to XBOX or some other system I don't have.

Well, if you've ever played an Asano Team game, it's just that same fricking game... again. Have you ever played Bravely Default? Team Asano just keeps making the Brave/Defualt system over and over again in their video games. It's not new, it's not exciting, and battles become more annoying and tedious than fun well before you actually finish the game. Also, only Primrose has a story that I actually cared about at all. It's a very pretty game, but mediocre in all regards, with a combat system that doesn't do anything that Team Asano hasn't already been doing for over a decade now. You will likely have a very good first impression of the game that will fade before you bring all of the characters together, or shortly after that.

He probably likes 3D, the smaller playable cast and their interactions, the job system, and having a single focused story.

Its flaws are apparent which 2 fixes for the most part.
Hunter class is severely gimped due to relying on catching beasts - its gimmick - falling off because lategame beasts have horrible catch rates, the beasts have limited uses before you need catch the same species to use it again, and a slew of other problems that make the class feel like an afterthought. 2 made Hunter one of the best and most versatile classes in the game.
Character party interaction is nigh nonexistent unless you have the corresponding party members to activate "Banters" aka skits during specific parts of each characters' stories (they're also permanently missable). 2 fixed that by making them permanent in the Journal menu.
Extremely low variety of dungeon types, mostly caves or forests. 2 adds more variation.
Biggest one for most is that there's literally no actual real ending because the "true end" is relegated to an unvoiced sidequest with a brutal superboss far more difficult than anything else in the game. 2 fixed that by having an actual endgame chapter after you cleared all 8 adventurers' stories and paired chapters.

New battles? I'll give it a try. My main complaint for OT2 was that aside from the secret superboss all the other bosses were too easy, so if this si a challenge I'll take it

          yes

No but I do expect them to let me use all 8 of them as party members (with brand new Latent Powers but keeping the old OT1 Extra Class) after beating them so that we have more fun options for Galdera or on the New Game+ they surely added.
Boy, I sure hope I'm not let down.

I do it too. I bought the first game on Switch while it was exclusive and my autism won't allow me to buy the same franchise on a different console, especially when I buy physical.
Same reason I got NEO for Switch despite it objectively running better elsewhere.

OT2 characters talk to each other in banters (like OT1), also in their paired chapters. They even make quips to each other in battle unlike OT1.

Both games actually have overaching plots.
In OT1, it ends with a subquest leading to the superboss.
In OT2, it ends with an actual true final boss in the final chapter > credits > epilogue.

OT2 is the better game, but OT1 is still good (for people who enjoyed it).
It's just really hard to go back to OT1 after having experienced the quality jump in OT2.

I petered out halfway through OT1 and still thoroughly enjoyed OT2, I wouldn't let it stop you from hopping into the second game

      >They're not connected right?
Other than 8 of the gods' names and roles for the main jobs, some cameo bonus bosses, and some callbacks to certain characters/names from the first game, no.

Still haven't played the first one, too expensive and doesn't deeply discount often enough on Steam for me to have caught it 50% or 75% off.

I dropped II because I had the same issue as with the first game, you're overleveled most of the game so it feels pointless to even play (I also find the path action shenanigans tiresome which is even worse in II).
maybe I'll get back to it, maybe not.

Leaker said the game is apparently a sequel but didn't specify which title.
Another news post since February confirmed that Team Asano was going to announce the new Bravely project this year.
