Is this worth picking up on sale? I love the idea of an MMO you only pay for once without subscription shit.
How is the current state of the game?

Frick no
Consider GW2 instead
Both options are horrible and only if you want to lather uranus with bleach playing them
I'd go with that too. New World is just moronic grind and barely any fun. Pvp was lacklustre too, with often times you simply not knowing what killed you.
GW on the other hand has good combat, a mix of tab targeting and action combat, a lot more game modes, not a moronic grind, and is ultimately easier to get into. Just don't give a shit about the story, but then again, who plays an mmo for the story.
This, you can play the base game of gw2 for free and its pretty nice, despite being quite old now
New world is extremely shallow, the only good thing is the combat system and even that is unbalanced and broken. Dont play it, really, its terrible
I'd give this game a shot if it wasn't so damn hardware intense. I have a 5 year old midrange PC with a 1060 and the game ran like shit when I tried it in the open beta. I really don't understand why devs would use such a demanding, badly optimized graphics engine for an MMORPG, that by default filters out a huge portion of their potential playerbase. A big reason why OSRS, FF14 and WoW are still at the top to this day is because these games can run on toasters.
ff14 can run on toasters? really? game looks pretty good (i never played it)
>How is the current state of the game?
For an MMO that's backed by a billion dollar company? Pathetic.
Like Lost Ark
>buying and playing a MMO
I will never understand this.
It's a great game and 150% worth buying, but I implore you to consider buying it at full price sir. Make sure to support good developers like Amazon!
mmos are for gays, but I'm pretty sure there is no end game content
It's fairly entertaining for the first 20 or so levels while the game is still fresh.
But then you get to around 25 and the xp slows to an absolute crawl.
and then you realize around level 30 that there is literally only 10-15 different enemy mobs in the game. and that some of the towns are literal copy/pastes of other towns just slightly rotated and a few npcs moved.
there's a reason the game went from nearly 1 mil CCU to barely 50k ccu within a month.
amazon is one of the greediest companies on the planet and you think their game is gonna be a good deal? they don't make money by handing out good deals.
I mean, it actually has no pay 2 win and only cosmetics in the cash shop, which already makes it less greedy than most mmos these days.
What a shame the developer fell for the meme that MMOs are supposed to be singleplayer RPGs you play at the same time as other people.
Just one fricking time I want an MMO that doesn't have a leveling system. Puzzle Pirates was fricking awesome in its prime.
I got it for free and it wasn't even worth that much.
you'll get your moneys worth in terms of playtime for sure
it really is not, and i say that as someone who played the game ON RELEASE and beat everything
it is garbage, i dont even know why i did that
i think i need help
I can help you (with that bulge in your pants ;))
>mixed reviews
frick no
Elder Scrolls Online is better, although the expansions cost a shitton.
>although the expansions cost a shitton
Just buy the newest one (currently High Isle) and you get all the previously released chapters automatically.
runescape is the only mmo worth playing
and thats because you can play it while doing other shit too
You'll get your money's worth. It plays more like a DayZ/Rust/Planetside with MMO streamlining than a "standard" MMO. In reality, it's more Massively than all the other instance based MMOs. Might not hold your attention as long as other MMOs do, but no sub so who cares.
It's a solid 5/10
Forgot to attach the image
i've played 55 hours of it, its nice and amazing sound quality.
the players """"players"""" left early and the dedicated players that care are still playing, imagine a private server for like WoW or something.
i was planning on playing some again when they added the instruments and stuff but i haven't gotten to it yet.
>private server for like WoW or something
This is very true, the player base has gotten so much better since launch, they chat used to be full of "bruh" and "yall" and other assorted zoomergroid lexicon but now it seems like it's just based mmorpg boomers for the most part
Core gameplay is fun. PvP was fun for a bit but now it is just max level gank squads farming new players. The game was mediocre as an MMO but the combat and character building around your weapon made up for it until the entire economy permanently crashed due to duplication exploits and rollbacks and people not getting banned resulting in everyone quitting. Their answer was to make watermark grinding impossibly grindy for anyone who didn't dupe the frick out of shit prior to the patch. So all but the most absolute no lifers and cheaters were punished and quit. Dead game. Sad really because I loved musketing motherfrickers and the dungeons were cool too.
Also had very little content when I played.
Play Elder Scrolls instead.
I don't know what changes they've introduced(other than new weapons and dungeons), but I can tell you about my experience. Skills and item level becomes a absolute grind. City PvP are only for a select few. A LOT of copy pasted assets(enemies, environments). Each patch introducing game breaking bugs and exploits. weapon balance is awful. Servers become empty to the point where you can't do basic activities, then once combined you lose all your cities.
Combat was above average at least.
>I love the idea of an MMO you only pay for once without subscription shit.
Play Guild Wars 1. Old but gold, kino as hell. Interesting classes like Mesmer and Dervish, you can also build your own party, not just a single character.
played at launch and was very disappointed. it isn't full of bad ideas like ESO or FF14 at launch it's an example of good ideas implemented badly. The movie away from Hardcore full loot PvP wasn't terrible it was the fact they shifted from that to the same boring dungeon grind fest like WoW. If they had focused more on leveling trade skills and added a better magic system it could have been this cool blend of Asheron's call and Runescape. The changes made since then have been good but I would wait till the upcoming Brimstone patch that will overhaul the entire starting experience before getting into it.
People never post characters in these threads so I assume the characters are ugly as hell and for me that's the most important part of a MMO
I got bored of new world after 1000 hours and switched to ESO
It's really fun, but I can understand why people would never play it again if they played at launch or are pvebabbies.
GW1/ESO/FFXIV
rest is absolute trash and not worth the bandwith
You forgot to put ffxiv in the trash where it belongs
GW2 is unironically the best non-sub MMO out there currently despite the fact that Ganker usually shits on it
How does monetisation work? How much can I actually play for free?
The entire base game is free…apparently they just added a bunch of stuff to the “new player experience” but I don’t know what. Beyond that you can choose to purchase the additional story content in the form of the living story and expansion content. The living stories are like mini-campaign things that have a little story with quests and new items etc. while the expansions are much more meaty. There is also a cash shop where you can pay for some cosmetic/convenience items which are highly recommended(more bank/material storage, build template slots etc.) if you actually enjoy the game but will not prevent you from playing if you don’t have them. You can get the best gear without spending a dime. You need to purchase the Path of Fire expansion to get access to mounts, everything previous to that expac was designed without mounts in mind, including all of the base game maps.
Lol that shit is the most boring and uninspired game I've ever played. Ugly with fricking braindead gameplay, I truly can't believe people waste their love playing that trash.
How often do you guys end up playing the b2p MMOs for a long time? I bought Secret World and ESO and played both for probably less than 40 hours each.
When is it going f2p? I actually just got an email from Amazon advertising the game, like 6 months too late.
