GAAS originated with idiot reddit leftists because they thought free = better and "le poor people cant afford DLC packs". These fricking morons didn't understand that quality would suffer from the less guaranteed revenue that GAAS provides versus purchasable DLC such as Battlefield Premium used to have. Companies probably jumped with joy when they realized these stupid gamers would still pay full price for a game that they have to put half the work into. Not to mention, if the game is bad? Who cares! Cut bait and just start marketing the next one. Congrats reddit, you did it!

Game studios tend to purge dev teams regardless of whether a game is a success or not. It's why the RDR2 team got liquidated and replaced. The guys who worked on BF1 got fired and replaced with the BFV guys, who in turn got fired and replaced by the BF2042 guys.

Game companies do this because once dev teams become successful they start asking for better pay and better hours.

Nah, is to keep costs lower. Devs won't suddenly stop asking better pay and hours if they get fired. Their experience and expertise don't just vanish.

It's because you don't need a full team after a game ships unless you're some kind of well oiled operation that has the next game set up when the previous game ships and that itself will only work if you planned and executed the last one properly and didn't have to crunch your team because they'll just burn out going right into another development.

Which formula? Not even Battletrannies agree on how the next Battlefield should play like because DICE keeps changing for every game since 1942.
Also, it doesn't matter if they "change" the formula, look at Battlefield 1 a game that has a different formula from rest, it literally has the most braindead and watered down BF game in the series yet Battletrannies consider the game to be one of the "best" games in the series. BF3 was touted as a "sequel to BF2" and yet the game was nothing like BF2 and DICE got away with it. So even if the next game turns out to be shit it doesn't matter because zoomers/gen alpha will eat it up.

        >has a different formula from rest, it literally has the most braindead and watered down BF game
        Please explain.
It has classes with set gear and gadgets, vehicles of varying types and building destruction for most places.
What more is there to battlefield beyond that and how did BF1 exactly not do them?

          Anonymous

          >Please explain.
Conquest is basically Domination where you'll not be able to comeback like in previous iterations and the idea of "ticket bleed" does not exist, 3D spotting, passive spotting and suppression have been buffed to the max, grenades are much more powerful and easier to use (there's no cooking animation, you throw them instantly like in Battlefront and the time fuse only activates when it hits the surface), hipfiring is much more accurate and easier and in some instances it's better than ADS, vehicles are much more accessible where new players have a chance to rank up kills without effort or learn to master, the vehicle spawn menu where vehicle prostitutes are capable of using their favorite specific vehicle on the majority of the maps that feature vehicles, behemoths and elite classes, Introduction of Operations "aka" Breakthrough where strategy is meaningless and plays like Metro 24/7 not only for infantry but also for vehicle prostitutes as well.

I still play BF4 mostly, 3500 hours and counting, and some BF3 for good map design and more defined classes. Been with this series since the very beginning. I will go down with this BF4 ship. BF1 was normie tier downgrade from the series, a sign of what was to come, V (for which I bought a key when it was like 4$) was clownworld level bullshit, utter slop. 2042... yea, didn't even buy, you can't even pay me to play this slop. It has been fun, but every franchise you love will eventually be killed in the most horrific manner, and the normies and business israelites will wear its skinsuit while taunting you. I hope the AI tools will let small dev teams produce good games with reasonable scope and circumvent the business israelites completely.

There's nothing wrong with the concept of live service. In theory it should be you get a full game and the promise of more content and support for free as itme goes on to keep the playerbase healthy and game fun.
An EA live service though is they make 0.5 of a game, then take 0.1 of that to be be the Season 1 update 1 month later. And then the remaning future updates are mostly cosmetics whilst they take forever to slowly add the other missing 0.5 at launch.

Having new 2-3 weapons is better than bloating the game with more useless guns which is exactly what happened in BF3 and BF4, but hey at least the guns and maps are free content unlike BF3/4.

            >Until they decided to add attachment for the vault weapons
You mean remove them? Portal specific attachments like heavy barrel (which kept their accuracy in line with base weapons) were completely removed. Reflex sight on the M16A3 was removed so now the M16 doesn't have a decent red dot sight. AKS-74U still only has 2 barrel attachments. XM8 LMG wasn't touched and is barely even customizable aside from a few sights and a bipod. And those are just the ones off the top of my head. I know for a fact that every vault weapon has a fraction of the attachment options that base weapons had, and they had to exchange it for the portal specific attachments so really they didn't really add anything at all.
On top of that almost every vault weapon has the exact same reload animation, except the animation is slowed down or sped up for """balance"""". The kicker here is that the animation speed isn't actually slowed, it's just the reload time changes independently from the animation - so in some instances the reload time is synced with when your soldier puts the mag in (like the A91/MTAR), and in other instances it's way off sync and the reload is registered a full second after your soldier puts the mag in (ACWR, M416, etc.)
On top of that there's also a huge tail between when the weapon is reloaded and when the animation finishes - the game will register that you have fresh rounds in your gun, but the animation still takes an extra second to finish, requiring you to have to constantly cancel the animation for an optimal reload time. But remember how reload speed isn't synced with the animations, and how every gun's reload speed is different? So now you have to play this extra minigame where you have to time the animation cancel just right to get a faster reload time but not early enough to cancel the reload altogether. You do this when the reload speed is arbitrary in comparison to the animation, which is reused by almost every vault weapon.

2042 deserves a bit better. It was dogsbit when it first game out. The only beta that was worse was 2142's beta which literally didn't work most of the time. 2042 ended up being a shit version of BF4 in the end but still pretty decent.

bf1 still has the best visuals and some of the most beautiful maps in the entire series

33 year old here, who has played BF since 1942. BF1 was pretty good. Aside from so many of the weapons feeling the same, some maps not being designed well, and some vehicles being too overpowered(especially the behemoth ones), the overall game was enjoyable.

What did you not like about it?

BF1 IS MECHANICALLY GARBAGE. YOURE BEING FOOLED BY FROSTBITE 3 ENGINE VISUALS - PRIMARILY USED FOR THE DISNEY BATTLEFRONT REBOOTS.

BF1/V WERE BATTLEFRONT ASSET FLIPS. IF YOU CANT SPOT OR OBSERVE THIS, THEN YOU CLEARLY LACK HIGHER MENTAL FACILITIES AND LACK SKILL AND SELF AWARENESS.

                NTA
Every gameplay mechanic is immensely casualized and a continuation of battlefront's mechanics, from the ridiculous weapon spread and insanely tight hipfire, suppression and sweetspots, down to elite classes and behemoths being rewarded to the losing team. Grenade spam is ubiquitous and the vehicles were dumbed down and much much easier to use than previous battlefield games which had a steeper learning curve to them. It's like the devs saw how competent players could abuse bf4's mechanics to their advantage and took out every possible avenue for them to do the same in bf1, and what you got was an incredibly casual and one dimensional shooter. Even now whenever you hear someone praise bf1 they only ever talk about things like the graphics or ambiance, and never the actual gameplay because deep down even they know bf1 is a complete mess in that regard.

I just want a modern iteration of BF3/4 or a proper Bad Company 3 with destruction turned up to 11 and be able to distinguish allies from enemies aesthetically because both sides follow the rules of war so there are no pastel-colored trannies ruining the experience, unless they're exclusively suicide bombers because that actually makes sense.

Similarly, I just want a modern reincarnation of CoD4 not shafted by its own studio by tying it to the annual release of the latest hot garbage wall runner.

It seems so simple, and perhaps it's just a sign of growing older and witnessing all your heroes become villains, but the gaming industry becoming infected by non-gaming executives who just want to please share holders along with their slavish DEI obligations by allowing women into their companies, which gets reflected by their representation into the medium with female infantry or anachronistic forced representation of colored soldiers in WW1 European armies breaks the immersion every time, let alone the watering down of mechanics to appeal to the lowest common denominator, leaving the veteran, strategic-minded out to dry every single time.

At the end of the day, I want some arcade features because it's a game and the closest I want to go to simulation is a hardcore mode with realistic damage and no HUD.

It seems the best we can get is by playing modern timed chess, i.e. Age of Empires 2, because no competitive FPS wants to appeal to their heyday that throttled them to popularity in the first place.

Modern Warfare 2019 seemed like a reprieve, but it still suffered from ridiculous kill streaks, SBMM, shitty netcode resulting in countless scenarios where you'll get killed by magic JFK bullets killing you like you hadn't just ducked behind cover (something that's always been an issue despite Activision plenty of resources to fix it, although they lack the will to do so), and plenty of stupid aesthetic packs, which has only gotten worse with each iteration.

It wouldn't be too hard to make a game that satisfies BF2/BF3/BF4/BC/BC2 fans simultaneously. They could basically just make BF2 with modern graphics and mechanics, and then add new maps that are similar in design to BF2, and toss in a bunch of fun gadgets that aren't SciFi shit.

It being in a modern setting would also allow for the most customization in terms of factions, weapon selection, gadget selection, player camos/skins, weapon camos/skins, etc.
