steamspy says the game sold 20,000 copies at the least, their smallest market.
based on what devs said for nasb 1, switch is 10x as much. playstation and xbox are also larger markets, at about 5x as much.
so let's plug these numbers in
>Steam: 20,000 x $50 = $1,000,000 >Switch: 200,000 x $50 = $10,000,000 >Playstation and Xbox: 100,000 x $50 = $5,000,000
So after cuts from each marketplace's store comission (30%) and taxes (about 20%), the game has made a solid $8,000,000 at the lowest estimates possible. assuming the game has 2x the regular shovelware budget gamemill usually dulls out (regular budget of $2,000,000 x 2 = $4,000,000), the game has already made it's budget back and has $4,000,000 of pure profit. This is a resounding success for a first week for a game of this scope and christmas season hasn't started.
>Licensing isn't cheap either
nick slime racers got three games from this publisher and has all the same things all star brawl 2 has. assuming the same licensing costs exist for that game, i think we're still fine. that game was successful enough to warrant its existence three times over and i guarantee it's no where as successful as all star brawl 1 and 2 have been.
That’s assuming Switch and PS sales were 10 and 5 times as much like the first game. This isn’t the first game though, a lot of people weren’t buying in again after getting burned last time and with the massive roster cuts. This game also has no physical copies out there yet for consumers to find on store shelves. They marketed the sequel terribly much worse than the first game. If you weren’t following leaks or smash e-celebrities you probably forgot about this game over a month ago. I hope it made back its budget and then some but I think it’s extremely optimistic to think it did that well.
I bought the first one. I thought it was ok but every aerial being instant made the game feel too samey.
I LOVED slap city.
My favorite smash game is 64.
the game is very different to nasb 1. it's a lot slower, feels about 50% that of nasb 1's speed, but that's ok since nasb 1 was retarded fast. it's still a bit faster than ultimate
characters are very unique now, all the veterans got glow ups to feel different and everyone has their own game plan.
slime meter could make this game very combo heavy like 64 is, but that remains to be seen till further labbing is done.
[...]
also crossplay is a thing now, so that ensures at least until a sequel is done the game will always be playable without needing to rely on discord like other fighting games. netcode is very strong in this one too. with that said, you're probably safe waiting for sale if you're worried about the game dying out by then since you absolutely have other to play with even 6 months down the line. I personally enjoy the game quite a bit since I've played ultimate heavily so to me $50 now was worth it for me. If you're not that big into platform fighters, maybe wait for a sale? up to you though
Good advice, thanks. I think I'll wait a month and see if the game is still alive then make a decision then. I do hope the game does well but I feel a bit burned by the first game. They should really give some sort of small discount for owners of 1.
you shouldn't base your decision on the first game being mediocre. i got burnt too but they really fixed everything wrong with the gameplay of the first. the only thing that should affect if you buy this one is if $50 is too steep of a price to enjoy some really solid platform fighting online since the game is lacking in everything else but this (campaign and arcade are meh and get repetitive).

>Is it worth the $50?
Not really, game is currently full of a bunch of minor bugs and hiccups, nothing that breaks the game (except for this one glitch I saw with Patrick never losing meter and being able to activate his final smash over and over, but I don't know how often that happens) but enough that you do notice it. Stuff like certain moves not having sound, animation bugs like Ember's grab just not playing, etc.
Then of course there's the issue with roster that's going to occur, if you did play the first game then there's a good chance you may have lost your main since 11 characters got axed and it doesn't seem like they're coming back for this game. $50 of DLC at release is super scummy too, but none of it is really worth it anyways imo and you can just use creamapi if you're on PC.
>Is the game worth it on sale or for the $30-$40 it is on keysites?
Absolutely. Game is a big time improvement over the first game in every single metric (except the roster if you used someone like Helga or whoever else got cut). Graphics and animations are way better, movesets for characters are actually good for their playstyle instead of just being memeshit, slowed down pace and slime meter makes it more enjoyable mechanically, netcode works better, new campaign mode is really good, music is fine now instead of being utterly forgettable, patches are already being rolled out and there's actual fucking VAs this time.
imo it's better than Multiversus both in how it plays and the fact that it's just a game you can buy and play instead of having to deal with microtransaction bullshit. I admittedly haven't played that many platform fighters, but out of the ones I have that aren't Smash this is probably the best one so you can take that for what it's worth.
it's definitely a huge improvement over the first one but hugh isn't playable so 0/10
>wanting Hugh over Jimmy
0/10 Taste, I'd rather have Cindy over him.
>They even made back their budget already and more!
They actually say this or are you just bullshitting?
using basic math anyone can figure this out
I would hope that they could at least hit that mark, it's a good game.
Math doesn't mean shit if you don't know what the actual budget was.

That's a looooooot of assumptions. Licensing isn't cheap either, so you're missing a big fucking chunk of the math there

lmao steamspy said elden ring sold 20m on steam week 1. It sold 20m as of today on everything.
>lmao steamspy said elden ring sold 20m on steam week 1
do you have an archive for that?
Good for the devs, but I wish that Nick would let them work with a less cancerous publisher.
ITT: coping.

Which ones have it? I'm not seeing it at the ones I usually shop at.
GreenManGaming and Kinguin
Why so much devs trying to save this genre when we all know it's going to be dead in a week?
Call me when it's $30
It definately looks like an improvement.
But it still doesn't look like a $60 game.
so no ones got a link to the game then?
Here you go anon.

>yellow score on Metacritic
You lost, shill.
Why the fuck is MC like this? Just base an average score with all versions.
It's to let you know if a certain version is fucked, but in this case separating the PS5 and PC versions is retarded since they're literally the same.
That's why I prefer OpenCritic
>MUH OPENSOURCE
linuxtards are insufferable no one cares
>7.5 on next gen/pc
>4.5 on Switch
That sounds about right to me. Would bump the game up to an 8/10 if the patches actually fix the glitches and balance.
