Who thought this was a good idea? Automata at least continued the story. Here you just play the same thing over and over

Because the story is complicated and intricate, so you have to go through the game so many times that no moron in the world can say "the game cool but I didn't understand the plot because my mother did crack while pregnant and I now have a double-digit iq."

Do sidequests change in B? I do try to do as many as I can but man they are tedious. Go there, get that. Fetch quests monstly. Do they get better? My next main quest is to go to the Forrest of Myth.

Most of them are still fetch quests. There are the exceptions tho

unfortunately people wont pay attention to the sort of stuff nier wants you to pay attention to so it does that sort of bullshit to get people to really pay attention, and it works as people tend to love niers story even more than a final fantasy story.

Yeah the story was pretty good, but why not just give me Route B with the new cutscenes, make me replay once for route C and D (creating a save before the last area) and then having me play the first 1.5 hours? It would be much shorter and an over all more enjoyable experience

ive honestly felt that since it became my favourite in 2010. route A is ultimately pointless, it should start with route B and introduce understanding the shades in route C/D, or what would be here B/C.

Can you ignore sidequests after you do A route?

can ignore sidequests for the entire game except the first one, hunting sheep.

not if you want all the endings

The sidequests share progress across every route, they don't become available to do again and every side quest in A route is still available in B+ routes besides E. The only missable sidequests are the ones in the first half of route A not counting fishing.

The worst part of the remaster is that they force you sit through the mid fight dialogue by outright preventing you from doing damage to the boss before it's over, which of course stacks on more in the later playthroughs.

I’ll defend route B but route C is fricking awful. Also not a big fan of having to beat Shadowlord 4 times for all endings

The voice direction is also shittier in the remaster despite having largely the same cast and script.
Perhaps the biggest crime for me though was the butchering of the scene where Weiss is losing his voice with this moronic radio static noise, because they couldn't trust braindead zoomers to realise something was wrong with him without it.
    Also the soundtrack is shittier.

some of the new songs were utterly fricking butchered too, I'll never forgive them for what they did to blu bird

That's the one I was thinking of as an example. I dunno what the frick they were thinking there. Why didn't they just give us the option to switch? No, everything has to be properly orchestrated now because eww old game fr fr

    >Who thought this was a good idea?
There's a reason mostly everyone who actually played the original game before Automata came out said it was bad or mediocre at best with a few of very good bits which made wading through the rest of the shit worthwhile, if you had the patience for it.

I guess you were probably given unrealistic expectations before going into it for your first time, because after Automata came out the subhuman contrarians started pretending OG Nier was some sort of flawless masterpiece and nobody will tell you anymore that it's actually pretty fricking terrible in many regards and it's only worth playing DESPITE its very glaring flaws, not because it's some perfect marvel of video game design. Replicant is just OG Nier with a few changes and improvements, it's not something fundamentally different so a lot of the flaws remain, since changing them would've changed the game entirely.

The only worthwhile post in this thread. This was my experience as well after playing Automata, and even though I definitely enjoyed it, the side quests almost filtered me. Having to go around trying to haphazardly find 30+ swords for Ending C did filter me, though. Uninstalled it then and there.

Do people struggle to find the swords? I had almost all of them by the end of the 2nd ending I was just missing the DLC ones I didn't know about. My first experience with the game was Replicant

you wouldn't need to do this if you didn't overwrite your save after C

Automata truly feels like an evolution of nier because the "replay the game" aspect is done so much better, replicant is atrocious
If you want all main endings you'll need to play the game at least 3 times and play the final part 4 times

In automata the changes between A and B at least have gameplay changes like playing as 9S, replicant has nothing besides minor cutscenes

The grind to get all weapons for ending C is also terrible
Yoko taro was a lot smarter with Automata's structure by having C and D being part 2

What fricking grind? You find them.

Yeah, but it is not fun at all
Nier replicant is very simple, you are mostly there for the vibes and narrative, it is not like you want to replay the game 3-4 times for the gameplay
I cant imagine how bad it was to play the game before the remaster

      Anonymous

Truly feels like yoko taro just wanted to do the ending structure to be different. Because the rewards are minimal and dont give anything in return
With automata you can see how it is a lot more well thought

      >"Ok i will have a route B with plot reveals but now you'll play with the other main character to make things dynamic and different from a gameplay aspect"
      >"Also the endings C and D will be a part 2 of the narrative after the Route B. So i wont make them replay the game 4 times and get bored before they see all the endings"
