It's flawed, especially the plot (or the lack thereof) and how barebones skell combat is compared to all of the crazy shit you can do on foot. It's still very much worth playing at least once and I hope Monolith gives the setting another try with a sequel.
it is an amazing game with some flaws that define the game's better parts rather than ruin it. the only glaring major problem is avoidable if you know not to do it, which is, do NOT craft the ares90, it will ruin your endgame enjoyment and cut your playtime close to in half, which sounds good for a casual, but in practice it leaves a bad taste in your mouth after going through the entire game constantly having fun.
The ares90 is very powerful for its cost but you can build even stronger skells. Thing is that you can get way stronger then the strongest enemies in XCX very easily anyway or even by accident. The dual guns + long sword is outright the strongest thing in the game even stronger then the strongest skell builds. So who really cares that the ares can 2 shot all the super bosses with its mega laser
Regardless of whether you think its good, it is perhaps one of the most influential Nintendo titles for games going forward, primarily the rest of the xenoblades and breath of the wild. Sort of like how a lot of Nintendo games took inspiration from the then canceled star fox 2.

I think an OoT remake would be more in line for a Switch 2 launch title. A very safe game to showcase the power of a new system. If Sony can do it with Demon's Souls then Ocarina of Time would work just as well if not better.
Consider Nintendo owns a patent on game changing graphics quality depending on what it's hooked up to, e.g. the Switch's basic ability to instantly swap between TV/docked and handheld mode.
Most people won't blink at, say, a new 3D Mario running 60 FPS because Mario has always done that, but if it's backwards compatible and Switch 2 can do a N3DS-style built in performance boost, I think just showing "hey that BOTW/TOTK that you already own but runs even better on the new console" would be an easy passive advertisement vs a new Ocarina of Time.
It would also be a guaranteed success on Nintendo's part to get people to buy the new console in swarms, I think.
