The fact that Disney allows Star Wars Galaxies to live on in the ways that it does is unreal to me.

It caused irreparable damages because they’re trying to kill off what SMT used to and turn it into the “its just like Persona, please buy it we’re begging you”

I'm more curious about why they did it after 7 years. I've got two ideas on the situation. On the one hand they are just massively incompetent and only just realized it was a thing and so they're shutting it down out of shame. On the other hand they might be planning to release another SMT MMO in the future and don't want the competition.
I'm leaning towards them just being huge homosexuals with tons of incompetence.

The official game was shut down 7 years ago. The private servers were made about 2 years ago, they waited those 2 years before throwing a lawsuit with no warning.

That's technically better since 2 years isn't as long but I'm still banking on them being morons.

So the software emulator is already out there? Can't people just download it and run their own private instance? What stops it?

    >implying people have even heard of Imagine

Anon, it shut down for a reason. Atlus is pulling a dick move for sure, but you really expect more than a handful of weebs to be freaking out about a long-dead Japanese MMO they've never heard of?

Imagine was what got me into megaten in general, I thought it was considered a basic entry point into the franchise back then like Persona 5 now.

Do you fricks still not understand what "irreparable damages" actually means? It has nothing to do with the "significance" it means that paying money won't undo what was done.

Is that because Atlus can't actually put a money amount to how much "damages" they received?

Oh no, people were giving the mainline SMT games free advertising, now no amount of money will make people forget? SMT games started at Persona 3, how can we keep up this lie now!?

AFAIK it's not the fan server being shut down that's the issue. The server that got sued was a smaller one that copied Atlus's website and might've had microtransactions, but COMP_HACK (the server software used by all of the private servers) got roped into the lawsuit as well because the smaller server used it. The most popular server (REImagine) closed down out of fear of legal action.
It still sucks ass though and I hate that it happened, because REImagine stripped a lot of the original microtransactions out from what I've been told.

ReImagine has a mantra where they would never ever do microtransactions or donation services in fear of Fatlus suing them, everything came out of pocket. They even had a zero-tolerance policy on RMTing for that same reason.

        Right, I should've included that.
I think the chances of the REImagine people seeing legal action are minuscule.

They're being accused of making profit, there's still no proof, its just an accusation that Atlus is making to make it sound like they did something actually bad. From what i remember when i played that, everything was paid out of pocket to keep the servers up and etc, i don't even think they took any donations for it.

Right, but that was REImagine. The ones that got sued were a different private server.

Because ReImagine closed out of fear, especially when the admin for the smaller private server that got targeted tipped ReImagine and the admin to Atlus because "he was burnt out of Imagine".

    >had a fan server for years with no issue
    >new fan server comes out asking for donation and has their name in the copy right info
    >atlus sues the one making money

if only these fans did it with passion and not for money or clout oh well

yes it always is, very few companies care about FREE stuff they only care when you try to make money on it, even the mario unreal engine remake you know the hire this man meme one only shut down when they stated taking money

It's ironic because whenever Nintendo ends up doing this, Sega is always one of the examples people use of companies not going after fan projects.

IMAGINE was quite shit but I can see it being improved if they removed the microtransations shit the game had. If the server that got sued was able to make the shop better, I can see why Atlus would get jealous.
Sounds like israelites israeliteing israelites, it's a shame the other project ended up closing because of it.

Imagine was shit because of gear disparity with the SI slot system. Almost every good piece of gear were from fortune cards and a regular set of equipment and accessories from fortune cards did jack shit compared to a fully SI'd set of gear that lets you intense break reliably.

To be fair, it was one server that was apparently mimicing the frick out of the original site or something? The other closed because they got spooked by the situation. Still a dogshit situation tho.

Nintendo will go after people for it simply existing, this was a single server using some copyrighted shit and asking for money. They didn't go after the server NOT doing this shit but they closed out of fear. Not saying it's fine they did this, but it's nowhere near the same thing.
