I can see Nintendo mention it at the shareholders meeting in May with full reveal in June.
    Here's the specs, btw.

Huh, I'll have to look that up. Neat if true but 1080p seems a bit of a waste even for an 8-inch screen. Maybe docked is targeting 2K/1440p?

            Anonymous

DLSS support is confirmed. 1080p DLSS'd into 1440p/4K is likely.

            >Huh, I'll have to look that up. Neat if true but 1080p seems a bit of a waste even for an 8-inch screen. Maybe docked is targeting 2K/1440p?
Most likely games will run like
            >Docked
            1080p DLSS to 4k
720p or 900p DLSS to 2k (for more demanding current gen ports or stuff like Xenoblade or Zelda)
            >Handheld
            720p DLSS to 1080p
540p DLSS to 720p (again, for more demanding games)

              Anonymous

Leas demanding games can easily do native 1080p in handheld mode. It's as powerful if not a little stronger than a PS4 and most PS4 games were 1080p.

                >Leas demanding games can easily do native 1080p in handheld mode. It's as powerful if not a little stronger than a PS4 and most PS4 games were 1080p.
There's no reason to do native 1080p on a device with a 1080p screen. They might as well use DLSS and then use the power savings somewhere else. Hell, they could even not use the power savings and increase battery life by a ton.

                Anonymous

Clarity. DLSS'd 720p to 1080p has noticeable blur, especially if you're viewing textures that contain text or fine detail.

                >Clarity. DLSS'd 720p to 1080p has noticeable blur, especially if you're viewing textures that contain text or fine detail.
There is no fricking way the average person is noticing any difference between native and DLSS 1080p on an 8 inch screen. I guarantee you absolutely no one is running their game in native resolution on the switch 2, when DLSS will be baked into the development tools.

You're ratios are way off, think 900 to 1080, or 1800 to 4k, with the slow LPDDR ram I would see higher resolutions being a bottleneck, so who really knows, I personally am not expecting visuals to match the likes of FFVII R, God of War, or Gears of War, or even Code Vein, something definitely below that in terms of visual fidelity but aiming towards higher resolutions/framerates.

Elden Ring is probably the most demanding not shit game and this could run that no issue.

Huh, this is actually correct based on the Nvidia leak and not the usual completely unbelievable exaggerated shit people usually spew out. Same with the timing. Fippy bippy

I think the bigger question is what do people expect in the launch window software wise?

        Anonymous

        Ports seem to work
My best guess, backwards compatibility, and a couple "deluxe" launch games, with Metroid Prime 4 being the big launch exclusive, not that Metroid is casual audience friendly like Mario and Zelda, but it's the only big title that all we know is that it exists.
There will probably be either a full transfer of nso retros, with ds (if the rumors about a double screen are true), and or gamecube games
Some of that is more left field, and I don't think all are possible at once, but I wouldn't be surprised if at least several of these end up being the case

New 3D Mario is a given. Odyssey was 6.5 years ago so new one is probably done and being sat on for the Switch 2.

If you want a real videogame console, buy a Playstation 5. Nintendo does not care about creating a quality product. They only want to shit a children's tablet toy because they know that children and manchildren will buy that shit up. The games will look and play like shit just like all of Nintendo's games made since the GameCube era.

Unlike Nintendo, Sony has only been getting better and better with both their consoles and their games. The games on the PlayStation 5 look great and run at great FPS with no slowdowns. There is also a large selection of games. Helldivers 2 is kicking ass and taking names in the multiplayer FPS space. Dragons Dogma 2 actually works on the PS5 because it is good enough to handle. The Last of Us series is made for the gamer who wants thoughtful, emotionally charged games that hit you where it hurts. I could go on but you get my point.

Get a PS5 and join the gaming revolution. You can thank me later.

You must be referring to the "Switch Pro", the same one that Bloomberg leaked a thousand years ago and which has performance comparable to the PS4, which was impressive at the time for a handheld, but now that we're heading towards the end of the PS5 generation and with new games proving to be horrible to run even on super computers, the announcement of a new Switch comparable to a basic PS4 but with a 720p screen isn't going to excite anyone, and Nintendo must be well aware of this.

      Anonymous

PS4 is relevant for modern multiplats and that system is still receiving games

        Anonymous

I know, but what I'm saying is that if Nintendo really is holding back the Switch "Pro" for all this time, it has lost any chance of impressing people. When the rumors that Nintendo was preparing to release a Switch with performance on par with a PS4 were first announced, people were genuinely impressed. But things have changed a lot since then.

          Anonymous

I think if the Switch Pro ever existed it eventually became the Switch OLED personally, slightly bigger + better screen. Might not've been able to make a big enough performance difference that it was worth it but also not making a *small* enough performance difference that they shouldn't have just gone ahead and iterated on it to make a new console gen

Delaying any more powerful system to make a new generation is a much smarter move

      Anonymous

There are literally only 2 major games that are pushing new generation hardware so far, Baldur's gate and Dragon's Dogma 2. And neither of those games are really that big, particularly with console owners. The switch 2 should have no problem running the vast majority of releases this gen.

Is it the reveal that won't be announced in this fiscal year or is it release? If it's release then reveal can be in April. If it's reveal, then it won't be in April. Nintendo could also say there won't be a next gen console reveal next fiscal year. Which means no new system until 2025-2026.

The release schedule of first party games has me thinking the next system will most likely be slated for Spring 2025 release with a reveal in September.

Nate clearly has sources at Square Enix (he's leaked the Stranger of Paradise title, Life is Strange for Switch and will openly talk about things like Chrono Cross or the Pixel Collection), which is how he gets the Direct dates because SE usually has a ton of games. It was incredibly telling when he said he didn't know the date of the Partner Showcase and lo and behold there were no SE games in it. Outside of that he was the usual wester journo sources like Ubisoft and he leverages these to make it looks like he knows more about Nintendo than he actually does

I don't have doubts that he has some marketing homosexual telling him the names of some games or some direct dates but his reporting on switch pro/4K has been nothing short of a disaster and the fact you still find morons begging him for info as if he knew anything baffles me

No, I completely agree. That guy said the Pro was coming late 2022 / early 2023 and was silent for 6+ months until fricking December 2022 when DF made that off hand comment about something getting canned and then he felt it was time to come forward and say the Pro got canceled. Anyone with a brain knew by that point it wasn't happening and then the Nvidia leak told us there was no other chip for it. The OLED in 2021 was the Pro when DF told him on his own podcast to only expect a screen refresh

      >vanpool closed down after it's last few games were just dev support on kirby
      >dillon's dead heat breakers was sent out to die on the 3ds when a switch release would have made the series relevant
Talking about games sent out to die on 3ds I would like to see a new Ever Oasis but that's completely dead with the return of the Mana series and Koichi Ishii actually creating new designs for that series, and this is of course a real shame because Ever Oasis was a much better foundation for a new Mana series of games.

I don't think Sush Strikers was the kind of game people wanted to pay for as a full game, it should have released on phones, Ever Oasis, Samus Returns, Luigi's Mansion, Dillon's Dead Heat Breakers would have all sold significantly better had they launched on Switch.

So, this is strong enough to get games from PS4/Xbox One, right?

We need more ports to fill up the Library.

yes it's somewhere around PS4/PS4 Pro in strength so it'll be relevant for modern-day multiplats, but not "exclusive" titles like FF16

      >So, this is strong enough to get games from PS4/Xbox One, right?
It's about 3x stronger than a PS4 after accounting for DLSS. It's fairly comparable to the Series S. Better in some ways, particularly RAM and DLSS and worse in others, particularly the CPU speed. Any series S game should be capable of running on the switch 2.

I'm legitimately worried about this generation.
    >Probably the biggest gap Nintendo's going to have with the competition
    >With everything moving towards shit like gay tracing and devs getting even worse at optimization by the year the Switch 2 is going to have fricking no third party support
    >Can totally see Nintendo going "well we're outclassed anyway, no need to put much power into this thing given we can just make our games"
    >Get another underpowered handheld that can barely run games build exactly for it at 1080p 60FPS
    >Will probably be at or just slightly better than the Steam Deck which is already showing its age but at least that has the benefit of being an open environment you can run extra shit on

Wii vs PS3/360 and WiiU vs PS4/Xbox One were bigger power gaps.

      >Probably the biggest gap Nintendo's going to have with the competition
If you think this you're completely uninformed. The leaked GPU is 3-3.5tflops and has DLSS. Compare this to the 10tflops of the PS5 and it should basically be about half as strong in GPU performance. The RAM will be even closer, with at least 12 compared to the 16 the PS5 has, and the switch 2 OS will definitely use less meaning the real gap will be at most ~3gb or roughly a 25% gap.

The biggest gap will be in CPU speed, but most games aren't CPU constrained so this isn't that important.

Compare this to the switch which had a 4.5x weaker GPU and half the RAM.

You forget the WiiU was the real competitor for the PS4/Xbox.

Also the PS3 was 19 times stronger than the Wii.

The gap is going to be very small in practice. We've already hit the point of diminishing returns. It's the difference between a PS4 version of a game and a PS5 version. Not a big deal.

I'm gonna get Elden Ring at PS4 performance (probably better thanks to DLSS) with the Switch 2 and I'm excited for it.

It's so weird the bubble some people live in online where they believe even 1% of people care about the hardware difference between what is effectively a PS4 pro and a PS5. It's just baffling to me. Especially when you see these people claim that DLSS artifacts are some massive dealbreaker when in reality most people wont even notice they're there unless you specifically point it out, at which point they will kindly ask you if you're autistic.

It's kind of the NONONONONONONONO yelled out by people as the hull of the Titanic begins to shear. We're at the upwards end of graphics-whoring now. "Realistic" is already possible with the right hardware arrangement and development. Where is there left to go in this regard? Hell, the PS5 has the same complaint for a lot of people as the Vita did, it looks great for what it is, but what's there to fricking play on this thing that isn't from a previous console generation?

they were port jobs on all systems but the switch version was ported by a singapore company called virtuos and is, notoriously, the PS3 version of the game with the added covenant swapping, and some badly compressed sound effects, while all other versions were ported by a polish company, QLOC

Yeah, the Switch version is a cash in afterthought, pretty standard fair, I always thought it was funny that before launch Nintendo listed From as a development partner yet From have never touched the Switch, and I don't expect them to touch the Switch 2.

i see no reason they wouldn't if the port job is smooth, personally, switch printed money if the developer didn't frick up a port or didn't cheap out on cartridge size + your game is worth playing in the first place (sushi strikers is shovelware and everyone knew it)

The cope I've seen about this one is that Monster Hunter Wilds totally wont get a switch 2 port because it's being made for the PS5. Man, they could literally just drop the resolution to 1080p and it would run fine. And 99% of switch 2 owners would still buy it.

          Anonymous

I wouldn't be surprised if wilds didn't release on switch 2 and capcom made another portable entry for the system, this way they can get more sales with two different monhun

Capcom releases both Wilds and a Portable Spinoff on the Switch 2 so it can sell twice as many microtransactions.

            Anonymous

They can get even more sales if they release Wilds on the switch 2 and then sell a new version financed by Nintendo to later port to the other consoles. There is absolutely no way Monster Hunter World would not be on the switch if it could reasonably run there, which it cant. There's a huge difference between this and the switch situation.

If you wanted to port a PS4 game to the switch, you needed to make it run about 5x shittier. So a 1080p PS4 game had to be dropped down to like 540p to run on the Switch. Otherwise to get 720p you'd need to essentially make an entirely different version of the game, like Square did with Dragon Quest.

On the switch 2 you can just drop the 4k PS5 game to 900p and then DLSS to 2k. No need to make another version of the game, basically zero effort required.

      >Get another underpowered handheld that can barely run games build exactly for it at 1080p 60FPS
What bottlenecks specifically will cuck games out of 1080@60fps on Switch 2, the Switch itself had serious memory bandwidth issues, any game that hits 720 in handheld would have scaled easily up to 1080 docked if this was fixed.
