it probably can't run 3 without massive concessions but for 1/2 I have to assume it's genuinely just laziness on SE's part

the actual issue is that porting and upgrading 1/2 from PS2 to PS3 and then PS4 is relatively easy(as much as it is porting them to PC from the PS4 versions), but porting them to switch is a nightmare in terms of time, effort, and cost, .8 would likely have to be downgraded, which would increase the time and development cost even more.
on the other hand, cloud versions take little effort and cost, since there's no actual porting involved.

tl;dr: rather than lazyness, it's reducing cost due to the actual porting being too costly for the results it'd bring

      still a shitty move

Square Enix was lazy and said frick it. They could have done a proper pack and made 2.8/3 cloud versions but that takes effort when you can just stream the PC ports and have one employee change some UI shit and call it a day.

Yeah I'm not a fan of that at all, there's zero reason it can't run the first two collections natively and not a whole lot of reason it couldn't run III natively.

KH1+2 collection is like 45g. It's the smallest of the 3.
The biggest Switch cart tops out at 32g.
Because of this they're going with cloud versions on 1+2, the other two wouldn't be able to handle 2,8 or KH3.

    >but but but you can just download them, or put 1 on the cart and download 2 like [insert game collection name here]
    1+2 collection is an all in one, it's not something you can piecemeal.;

What they want is for their games not to be pirated, same reason why the PC version is always online. Switch encryption is blown wide open. The reason Nintendo has abandoned the console after 2018 is because they want to move to a platform with stronger encryption so they can get third parties back.

They've already been pirated to hell and back.

Not the definitive, 4K versions, which is what they care about. They want to make sure if you do pirate that you have to settle for PCSX2 and its input lag.

          >definitive, 4K versions,
The entire franchise was pirateable the very moment it was uploaded elsewhere for download, day one, because it has no DRM beyond normal EGS DRM. Give this up.

          >Not the definitive, 4K versions
Yes they have anon, they were pirated day one of the pc release. Also 4k doesn't change what the game is.

None of this is correct anon, they're putting out a considerable amount of first party games next year while this year b is filled with nothing but third party releases.

Not likely far from the truth, especially if the Nvidia x86-64 micro board ends up being the Switch successor. It'll make porting efforts a lot easier vs a company doing a separate ARM version.

    >Most people don't have computers powerful enough to pirate the more recent games.
And that's the inherent problem, the people who do spend the time and money to get these good computers are the kind of people tech-savvy enough to pirate. Which is why developers abandoned PC en masse as soon as broadband allowed for piracy to become widespread and only came back when DRM schemes such as Steam and Denuvo were put into place.

The Switch has some of the frickiest portjobs ever. On the one hand you get shit like Skyrim Special Edition, Nart Storm 4 and a remade Wii game with brand new assets running just fine, but then you get ports of PS3 games and a PS4 game requiring Cloud editions, a Wii game in a different engine running worse than ever before despite already having graphical compromises and whatever the frick is going on at 2K.
What do CC2 and Capcom know that the other devs don't? Did they tickle Furukawa's balls to get the necessary info?

You fricktards have such a skewed perspective of piracey, normies still buy shit and the normies outnumber you social rejects 10 to 1, the switch will last another 5 years and Nintendo are right to milk the platform for all it's worth

      Anonymous

      > the normies outnumber you social rejects 10 to 1
But that's only the case on console, like I've said, PC users who are willing to spend $1000+ on their gaming rigs are pretty much all tech savvy enough to pirate and most of them do, hence why it took Steam and DRM to bring developers back to the platform when CD keys were no longer cutting it.

Nintendo's not moronic and knows that the system having piracy doesn't mean the majority of its install base is going to pirate, and even less that the majority of those pirates are going to buy literally nothing. No online access without a $20/yr. surcharge, the almost overzealous antipiracy methods for online (they can detect you're a pirate no matter what it is you do on Switch), and the majority of play value being in online for games like Super Smash Bros. and Splatoon 2 means there's going to be games where it's more convenient and much better value to just pay for it.

Again, they're not moronic. Bad business is dumping a system because there's pirates on it.

Piracy doesn't mean shit when your console prints money, which the Switch does for better or worse. I think they could use a bit of a shaking up to get their asses into gear and make something both powerful AND Nintendo, but it's all but guaranteed to sell at least 100M units at this point and you have shit like Mario Kart 8 charting weekly in the Top 10 (fricking how??)

      Anonymous

      >something both powerful AND Nintendo,
I'd rather they don't. It's the lack of power that prompts third parties to make unique games for the system. If it were powerful then we'd run into the same problem with ps, xbox and pc where developers use the power to cut corners and create less games.

Well shit, I've never thought about it like that

I don't blame you, most people don't consider that when they ask for more powerful systems.
Plus most of these third party games come to pc anyway so you can have the best of both worlds.

Exactly, which is why they've already announced the Switch 2's existence. And why right after the GBA got blown wide open with emulation on fricking release day the DS came out only 3 years later.

    >Everyone knows that Square Enix will re-release these collections on the Switch successor.
    I think you are right.
“For some time, our director Tetsuya Nomura had expressed his desire to deliver the Kingdom Hearts series to Nintendo Switch players, him having seen and heard the demand, and so a great deal of consideration went into this internally. Bringing these titles to Nintendo Switch proved to be quite difficult for various reasons, including the storage capacity of the hardware, but we’re excited that we were able to make it happen for the first time ever by utilizing the Cloud service.”
“At this moment in time, the production of a native version is undecided. We believe that the Cloud version is currently the best way to deliver the Kingdom Hearts series to Nintendo Switch players, but we are always excited to hear feedback from our fans and want to thank them for all their support.”
