Why must you be so bitter? The point I was trying to make was that few games are actually immersive, despite the obsession with realism that every modern game developer has nowadays.

It's not the same thing exactly, but maybe try Far Cry 2 with the realism mod.
It's the closest thing I can think of, specifically the focus on going out and making it back to relative safety.

It's open world without you being able to run away from every enemy and every enemy having a comically small agro range.
It's you're naturally looking out for packs of dogs that may wonder into your path and bandits hiding here or there.
Other games put the bandits out of the way and you only fight them if you want to and mobs are similarly positioned in static places for your convenience, so you can do the quest where you go and kill them for mob #325.

I see what you mean: the game pushes you into danger. I actually enjoy that type of gameplay a lot but its not for everyone. Like, people I personally know hate any type of barrier preventing you from walking around the game world, they want it fully open (which is a farce, they play games like Fallout 3 that have tons of invisible walls they just don't notice it as much)

Stalker has tons of shit preventing you from just going around enemies or anomalies, you need to sneak or just high-tail it. Lost Alpha, for all its terrible shit about it, actually does the maps really well where they still have hotspots of danger, but you are able to walk so far around it and snipe from far away more often.

It's really good, I remember reading the pcgamer article on it and being excited for like 5 years until I finally got it but it would be cool if there was at least part of the game where you were actually raiding deep into the zone instead of just roaming cordon or 1 zone away from the bar, especially since every zone has npc settlers.

The Forest edges it out in immersion and possibly jank too.

Not really, in fact it's an absolute fucking mess, especially with the default Gamma economy.
But... it is very customizable, so with a ton of tweaking and adjusting, you can eventually wrestle it into something more acceptable, and yeah - it can be fun as fuck at times.

It stops you from having pristine weapons for a while which is good, but the actual steps it takes to fix up a weapon is so pointlessly convoluted that it's just annoying in the end. It's fine that it's expensive and you need a bunch of items to repair things to 100%, but it's nothing but tedious when you have to just hope to find the repair part you need (you won't) or that a trader will randomly have it.
It would have been better balanced if mechanics had a way wider selection of parts but everything was more expensive.

            Anonymous

I just play and venture in the zone, kill a bunch of people, and field strip any parts above 60% condition from their weapons. Will it take a while? yes but now after 15 hours of playtime, I have a lot of parts, like my point is it is hard to get parts but not TOO hard

              Anonymous

If you're just stripping everything you may eventually be able to put together a gun with a barrel that's at ~70% so it only has a 30% damage reduction (which is still annoying). If you want to change a barrel you have to hope you find the right barrel in a stash or in a merchant's inventory, find or buy a barrel changing kit, find or buy a specific cleaning kit for the gun, and then use a vice. I've yet to find the appropriate barrel changing kit for a shotgun or all the materials to craft one for about 12 hours of gameplay and it's just annoying at this point.
Oh, and can you take the weight limit off of the boxes meant for player storage in places like 100 Rads? It's incredibly obnoxious considering the amount of absolute horse shit the mod expects you to hoard. I looked through the mod options in game and couldn't see it. I could craft another storage box eventually, but I need those parts to make other shit this inane system wants me to build

                Anonymous

I'm surprised you don't have the weapons kits yet, you can right click a gun and click on details, you'll see the required kit type to repair the weapon, once you have the kit, then right click the gun. select maintain, select clean barrel, boom 100% barrel.

no you cant expand the stash in rads, but just buy any backpacks > right click > create stash and now you have an extra stash, and you can also do what I did on top of that, buy a mobile workshop (forgot the complete name, its basically the thing you pay 1000 to technicians to use) I bought mine for 18K iirc, and throw it in rads bar, boom now you have a free workshop with 300K of stash inside

I've yet to find one for purchase anywhere, so maybe I'm unlucky or something is fucked up with the mods.

                >Oh, and can you take the weight limit off of the boxes meant for player storage in places like 100 Rads?
You can remove weight limit from player-made stashes somewhere in the options menu. I have no idea if it affects hard-placed one's or not.
However, making an additional stashes does not require any crafting. You make a new stash by using a backpack, and unlike armor backpacks are regularly sold even with Gamma economy, and cost 2000 rubles for the "smallest" one. And if you remove stash space limit, then you only need the one small one, so yeah.
Infinite inventory at trader's location only costs you 2000 a pop, it's hardly an issue.

That's a hot tip, thank you for that. I must be blind and didn't see the player stash limit option.

Yeah. Default Gamma economy is something I eventually removed, instead opting for a conventional economy but with extremely limited trader stocks and some modifications making the economy still very harsh.
Honestly, my biggest problem wasn't even the weapons deal - I can deal with that, in fact scrounging for parts was something I found quite fun and I ended effectively building my guns out of spare parts anyway.
It's actually the no armor rule that I found ABSOLUTELY INTOLERABLE.

gammas world feels empty and hollow since theres no loot instantly making exploring all those new worlds worthless, very little quests beyond radiant skyrim tier garbage.
That's been the main problem of all those huge mod packs since COP relased. Very little incentive to actually go and explore and venture into the zone beyond having a gunfight. And combats always been garbo.

How different is it from Anomaly?
After 15 hours of Anomaly i had no interest to continue, it's a shame too because i wasted hours modding it.

        Anonymous

        >How different is it from Anomaly?
Not substantially. Gamma is just a massive collection of smaller tweaks, most of which are just small additions to the already very autistic systems of Anomaly. Also, the point of Gamma is to be extremely customizable, so basically all changes it does introduce, are in themselves, optional.
The biggest and most crazy change it introduces is the "Gamma economy" idea, which is basically a toggle that turns of weapons and armor trade from all traders in the game - a system that is intended to shift Anomaly's obscenely bloated crafting systems from optional to 100% mandatory to engage with. Something that I personally ended up turning off.
Other than that, there is a bunch of trully HIDEOUS visual mods serving to increase visibility across the game by shifting the season towards more late fall scenario, thus removing most of the folliage from the game. this indeed improves visibility, but makes the game ugly and deprives is of it's atmosphere.
There are some health overhaul mods that add higher emphasis on locational damage and add further intermediary steps to the process of healing, there are some mods that add more complex artefact systems that further make the game slower and more autistic - and so on.

If you are not on board with Anomaly's freeplay formula (and I suspect that is your main problem with Anomaly), then Gamma isn't going to change that for you.
That is not to say that Gamma is bad. I hate a lot of it's features - but it is customizable, and I find quite a few minor tweaks it adds worth the instal...
But the fundamentaly problem here is and I think always will be the freeplay nature of these mods. Anomaly and Gamma are sandbox games set in Stalker universe, which was not designed to be sandbox. And the lack of more substantial story progression and general direction is an inherent flaw of the very idea of freeplay mods for Stalker. Gamma does not change that at all.

If I murder a monolith chump in GAMMA will I find a professional soldier was carrying around a half-rotten m16 with a handful of rounds?

            >If I murder a monolith chump in GAMMA will I find a professional soldier was carrying around a half-rotten m16 with a handful of rounds?
            By default settings, yes.
All of these things are however 100% customizable through the in-game menu.
You can set up average quality of weapon drops, average quantity of ammo drops, probability of other useful loot dropping, as well as as whenever you can or cannot buy/sell weapons and armor to traders, how much of their stock will they have, their min weapon quality buyout values, quality-to-price reduction ratios, and so on and so forth.
I'm not 100% about this, but I think you can actually set most of that in Anomaly too. It's all in the mod options menu's in-game, or a matter of disabling and enabling some mods/submods through the GMO.

The issue here is that one change can have a pretty big implications for the game's ballance though. For an example - you can encounter Monoloth patrols in Swamp, one of the game's starting locations, meaning that when you set enemy weapon conditions to high, you'll easily find yourself owning one of the game's best weapons, in great condition easily even improved by crafting, on hour 10 of your game, and that makes it quickly boring. Which is why these mods hamper it. They are trading realism for longevity of the experience.

Also - not that it matters, but Monolith aren't professional soldiers. They are brainwashed borderline zombies that happen to have good equipment because they were equipped with it before they turned into hivemind monster-cult.

                Anonymous

That wasn't my point actually. While I personally enjoy playing Gamma right now, I'm not entirely sure if I can honestly recommend it to most other people, it's certainly a flawed mod collection build on top of what is kinda flawed fundamental premise. I certainly don't want to create a wrong impression here that this is all cool and sunshine and lollypops. For an instance - it took me almost two weeks of fucking around and experimenting to even find a settings in GAMMA that is comfortable for me personally, and I'm not sure if that is even worth doing for most people.

Also, I feel like I should point out - you can customize the thing a lot - including max, min (and through that, average) weapon drop quality, but you can't do it based on enemy rank or faction basis. There is clearly some underlying system implemented that does already give higer rank enemies SLIGHTLY higher weapon drop quality by default (as low-level bandits will usually have weapons around 8-12% quality, but the few Military and Monolith groups I fought usually had like 15-25% - but as far as I know, that aspect of the game isn't freely adjustable, so... raising the weapon drop quality will apply across all factions and ranks, so now you'll be finding hundreds of thousands worth of fire-arms even on regular bandit patrols, so keep that in mind.

Gamma offers virtually UNLIMITED tools to tweak the visuals, you absolute fucking retard. There are at least 10 screens of different filters, options, color corrections tools, sharpeners etc... that is not counting the bigger mods, each of which providing an entire different sets of models and textures. You can literally set the game in a different season if you want.
Or to mention the fact that there is actually an optional mod in Gamma that actually makes folliage affect enemy line of sight for crying out loud.
It is still fascinating to me how the 99% of robots shitting on gamma still haven't figured out that customization is actually a thing.

There is a lot of actual, genuine issues with GAMMA. Gameplay problems mostly rooted in the anomaly core of it, fundamental limitations of the whole freeplay formula or the crafting mechanisms.
But instead, you chose to whine about graphics, the one thing that is absolutely, purely up to the player to set up and tweak into the most insane, autistic detail.

Nothing proves that most people here on Ganker whinning about Stalker or it's mods actually never played ANY of the games, and are just brain-dead tourists desperate for their cool Ganker social media cred.
