The finale has her about to tell Mario something (implied "I'm a girl" in Japanese, "I love you" in English) before stopping herself this time.
It's very easy to read this as a dry running joke. Could be earnest, but it would be really weird if they had her break character and lie about just this one thing.

I could see why, the overworld having things rounded and shaded to match the roundness goes against all of the flat sprites that are right next to said round shapes. TTYD had a lot of angular overworld objects, with the worst cases not having shading that would go against the environment.
Fug Bables was a fun playthrough though, especially with the hard mode badge equipped right from the get-go.

It finally got the rest of me to admit to my deepest instincts that Nintendo games can be crap and that a lot of them around that time WERE in fact crap. I remember trying to replay Skyward Sword again soon after, and without any sort of outside influence, I just couldn't bother continuing after the first couple dungeons. What funny and ironic is Billy Hatcher would release years later and copied Sunshine almost beat for beat but with worse collision detection.

Bobbery is fucking useless, legitimately unusably bad, and Vivian is very inefficient.
Flurry is underrated late game and Koops is basically mandatory. Yoshi is extremely OP and Goombella is a worse Yoshi, but still good. Mr Mowz is useless.
So if they rebalance the partners, they need to significantly buff Mowz and Bobbery, buff Vivian a little bit and nerf Yoshi. The rest are fine as is.

Yes, Shell Shield is just too good for stalling, especially in conjunction with Sweet Feast / Treat. And concerning the multihit stuff that's also a Yes, Paper Mario naturally is biased towards multihit moves and Yoshi has three (3) multihits covering basically every situation, he even deletes airborne enemies in an AoE. Goombella is very slightly better than Yoshi against single targets though.
Generally, if they bother with balancing adjustments, they should really fix that multihit bias, because it also very quickly renders Mario's hammer attacks utterly obsolete.

I also do this with the randomizer mod and it really makes TTYD's battle system shine. There is no reason whatsoever to even engage with the status effects in the vanilla game (dizzy, sleeping, frozen etc.) but it becomes mandatory when you really crank the enemy parameters up. It doesn't turn the battles into slogs either because if you know what you're doing you'll quickly start doing boatloads of damage yourself.
Would recommend and I hope the guy that made the TTYD randomizer ports it over to the remake.

I love the og ost, and I think the remastered music sounds great from what weve heard. the 8 bit part of the title screen theme was kept, which makes me believe a lot of the ost will sound rightfully synthetic and blippy and retain the originals aesthetic when it needs to (x naut fortress comes to mind, I doubt that will be aiming for a more ‘realistic’ instrumental sound like the battle theme is. modern Mario games all have a marrying between realistic, whether that be straight live orchestra or sequenced, and synthy spread about. the rest of what’s been shown seems aiming to be extremely faithful, if thats consolation as well.

Stealing is funny because enemies always have things to steal, even if they aren't visible. But the % chance of getting something useful is astronomically low
The multi hit bias my friends and I tried to solve when we used to make our own Paper Mario teams for a tabletop game was limiting them to 3 hits maximum with power decreasing by 1 or 2 every hit (but always dealt a minimum of 1 damage if the first hit could deal 1).
I think you're underselling Goombella because Rally Wink is insanely good and overselling Yoshi a LITTLE because Mini Egg is unreliable (HE'S ALREADY DEAD, STOP THROWING EGGS AT HIM). But Stampede and his basic attack are way OP.
I play the 1 Hour Randomizer a lot and Bobbery/Yoshi/Vivian are the best partners for that; you're rarely ever actually able to upgrade them, they deal the most base damage of all partners, Bobbery's second move (can't remember the name) can deal the most damage to any boss at a more efficient rate than just using the basic attack, Gulp is amazing for high Def low HP enemies, and Shadow Fist can hit anyone anywhere. Plus Vivian has base 15 HP and Bobbery has base 20 HP which are really nice.
one quick fix to Ms.Mowz would be to just make her kage bunshin no jutsu deal piercing damage along with the dizzy effect. maybe also more hp heal on her smooch too (as well as adding spiky shield p and ice badge p)

I do like things, I'm no minimalist but games are so easy to pirate now, I only ever get games physically if they're cheap or if I think a friend would like to borrow it. It's like a physical DVD collection, it's just a huge waste of money and space to buy all of these proprietary formats when there isn't enough time in your life to play what you currently have access to. It's not like a book where holding it to read is an experience you can only get with the book, it's a fucking game you slot in and then you look at the TV the rest of the time. What issues did you have with it? Was it the story, the gameplay, several nitpicks, or a mixture of those three?
Story was okay, Gameplay was a slight upgrade, but the biggest problem with it is level design and pacing.
The whole game is just corridors and the game force you to do back and forths 4-5-6 times in those corridors. You dont see new environements, you never get to a big area like Paper 64. The most obvious one is the forest, where you go from Town to the castle, what, 6 times in the chapter?
What big areas are there in PM64?
The desert exploration, all trhe dungeons are bigger on 64 than TTYD, and all the pre dungeon areas are bigger or have more branches

Compare Lavalava Island to Keelhaul Key. Keelhaul Key is a corridor from the camp to the entrance of Pirate's Grotto. Lavalava Island is a big area with multiple areas that have loading zones north, East, south, and west as well as shortcuts that get unlocked as you progress through it (the big raven tree to the entrance to the volcano, and the first area north of the Yoshi Village making a pathway over the water to the area with the Jade Raven statue).
I love both 64 and TTYD, but 64 has the better world.

The game expects you to make notes of what you see, make the shortcut, and go to it.
At best, you can save yourself half a trip of backtracking in Keelhaul Key because you see the Coconut Tree in the background.
Dry Dry Desert, Yoshi Island. There are also more creative level design structures like the circular mazes in chapter 3 and 4, and the central area branching off into six side areas in chapter 6's main area.

Honestly I feel the same about the game. Half of TTYD is spent in the fucking boring ass sewers. No place is really connected, the world design feels so disjointed. Only Glitzville and Poshley Heights felt like actual places. In the OG Paper Mario, the Sewers are pretty much optional and you only have to go there to access 1 mainline story chapter, now that actually felt nice.

Boggly Woods looks more whimsical, the moonlight lighting peering through the Doopliss stained glass window makes Creepy Steeple look better, and Glitzville as looks better now that there are some dark/light contrasts added like how the audience is darkened so that the action on the stage stands out more and how the entrance to the building is more in the shadows.

They'll probably reveal it in the February direct, I'm assuming the TTYD remake is coming around April or May. KRTDLDX didn't reveal the Magolor Epilogue until the February direct a few weeks before the game came out, it was leaked a few weeks before the direct though. I could see TTYD maybe adding some kind of epilogue or sidequest with Luigi like I saw above.

My problem really isn't the paper water, it's the lighting of it. Like the water has this reflective property, and is shiny/glossy but not everywhere shares that.
I like the more flat, less glossy look South Parks paper aesthetic, which has more of that construction paper vibe.

How would you all rank the Paper Mario games, I'm very happy to see TTYD getting remastered, it was the best one. For me I'd say
TTYD > SPM > PM64 >>>> TOK > CS >> SS

TTYD and 64 are easily at the top. Origami King and Super Paper Mario have parts I both enjoy and really don't enjoy. Color Splash is okay for one playthrough, but it's pretty shallow. Sticker Star is way worse than the other two modern titles, and outright a bad game in many regards.

Only redeeming quality for CS to me was the dialogue was pretty funny sometimes, and it was at least better than SS, I didn't even finish SS.
64, TTYD and SPM feel like one series and the new games feel like an entirely new one.

You didn't. After Miyamoto suggested to Tanabe to tone it down with the story and only use Toads as NPCs starting from Sticker Star and onwards, a remake for TTYD would've been grim if it became a reality, but it looks as faithful as it can get, so yeah Tanabe and Miyamoto BTFO.
Weird how they didn't even consider using Toadette considering she's playable in mainline.
I still and probably never will understand what people see in SPM. I guess the story and characterizations are good, but that's about it. Definitely not something worth more than one play

I would honestly expect it to happen given how Splatoon 2/3 and Pikmin 4 have shoved their good content into side campaigns already.

Not really, he kept ruining PM by following Miyamoto's suggestions to the extreme. He always says shit like "we want to innovate PM and not get stale" and "paper mario is all about the paper", which is a big fat lie. I can only imagine he regained some sense after 3 consecutive flops he decided to back pedal.

I can't speak for others who shit on him but he was involved in Mario vs. Donkey Kong changing, Chibi-Robo dying, while yes all of the Prime games he also was responsible for Federation Force and who knows how 4 will turn out with him as Producer. In my eyes Tanabe in the mid-2000s just became a shitty developer. The only thing I can think of positively with him are the newer DKC entries but I can't tell if that's because of him or due to Retro simply being at making games.
Also as a side bit about him I find it odd how currency-focused he is in games considering modern Paper Mario hyperfocuses on coins, Chibi-Robo's JP DS game was a lot more money-focused than the first game and Tingle's Rupee Land seemingly focuses on Rupees.
Tanabe is also the producer of the recent Warioware games such as Gold and Get It Together, and it's likely he'll be the producer of Move It. I don't really see him as a washed-up developer but more like someone who likes to experiment to a fault.
If so, it's still a loss on his end because he backed down on his own vision of the series in favor of what old fans would want

If this was me simply replaying on my GameCube I'd mix it up, but I want my first remake file to be what my color was the first time I played TTYD in 2004. I remember I got black Yoshi but for some reason I softlocked on top of the hot dog stand with Mario looping in and out of airplane mode so I had to reset, killed me to lose my black Yoshi and then I got stuck with white.
