It's the latest contrarian circle jerk. Gotta hate popular things. Watching reddit post pics of trees and doom and gloom for weeks before release only for swsh to be the best selling pokemon sequel in the last 20 years was fricking delicious.

I loved Pokemon as a kid. Literally traded cards, traded pokemon with other kids with gameboys, the works. I became an adult and still played, though I enjoyed it less and less as the series progressed. I remember playing Diamond and Pearl a few years after playing them and thinking to myself "I don't remember any of this' because it was so forgettable and stupid. I'm older now with kids of my own who I want to introduce to pokemon. These games, and the series in general, has taken such a downward spike without any innvoation besides 'lol more pokemon!' that I absolutely refuse to buy anything pokemon related for my children. That being said, a copy of Shield came with the switch I bought for them. It's total fricking garbage. Company should've fleshed out the world instead of the amount of pokemon. Can't go back now, shit's fricking ruined.

I went into it expecting complete and total dog shit but it’s more like a 7/10, maybe an 8 with DLC but no more than that. It is by no means a bad game, hell the QoL they introduced make it the smoothest and most accessible Pokémon game to play yet. But they removed a lot of shit (as they do) and it is absolutely piss easy and has absolutely nothing at all to explore until you get to the DLC and even then it’s nothing like the dungeons and secrets of old. It’s also entirely linear.

Top tier soundtrack made me enjoy it. I don't give a frick about any opinion on Ganker. It comes from the same entitlement that gays on reddit and YouTube use over muh roms and emulations

I've been on Ganker for almost 16, 17 years now - I've officially been on Ganker for longer than I've not been. Ganker as a collective isn't wrong most of the time. The problem is that everyone is so heavily invested in their own ideas that they often refuse to see criticism as anything but false dichotomies or contrarian points and likewise a good amount of this criticism is actually from a position that sees the argument in a false dichotomy.

      >You don't like the way Nintendo is fricking up all their IP?
      YOU MUST BE A SNOYIGGER
      BUT THEY SOLD X COPIES
      FRICKING NOSTALIGAgay
      etc

The simple fact of the matter is that I've been a nintendo gay my entire life. I was the one in my family who had an n64, I was the one who had a gamecube - they had Playstations or Xbox. I'm almost 30 now and nothing Nintendo puts out contains the charm or quality I loved in the earlier games and even worse, they appear to not give a shit about actually developing any of the IP beyond a surface level. I bought BOTW for my kids to play and it was a fricking joke, they didn't enjoy it at all and in fact enjoyed Wind Waker and Majora's Mask INFINITELY more. Yeah it's fun as a standalone game but as a Zelda game, with what - 20 lines of Zelda story Dialogue broke up into those 12 memories? Total fricking joke. But I can't bring up how much I disliked botw without getting piled about GAME OF THE DECADE BRO LOL STILL SOUR AFTER ALL THESE YEARS EH? Like yeah motherfricker I'm sour that the stories I literally loved as a child, that I want to introduce to my kids, are being fricking tossed down the drain.

Borrowed a copy from a friend, the game was boring as hell. Pokemon fans must have zero fricking standards if they thought this game was good.

It was extremely obvious from the beginning. I've been referring to them as the midwit players, the people who've been playing for 20+ years that are also afraid of battling other people which is where Swsh shines. Also trainer customization is always fun.

It's alright. I actually beat the game unlike Pokemon X.

Still not worse than XY to me, but at the same time it feels just as unfinished in areas.
Isle of Armor was pretty meh all around, Crown Tundra was pretty fun though

    I never expected otherwise
The majority of the audience of pokemon either don't use the internet and/or generally have no standards
What's truly amazing is how even a lot of the people that spoke out against the game thought/still think the only problem is the dex.

I mean I wouldn't necessary call them good games, but they're no worse than anything from the previous two gens. Pokemon being shit isn't something new that started with gen 8. The uproar was mostly from furries complaining that their favorite frickmon didn't make it in the base game or morons expecting it to be on the same production quality level as BotW just because it was on the switch. The rest was just the bandwagon that followed suit.

Worst game in the franchise by a wide margin

Would Pokémon fans ever accept not having a new game every year? Imagine what their games could be like if they took several years between games like other Nintendo franchises.

You're putting a lot of faith into Game Freak thinking that they would actually put more money and effort into into it when they can just shit out a game with 0 effort and be a multimillion seller because of the pokemon logo alone.

I bought Shield for Melony, but I ended up with the shittier dog and the even shittier DLC rival (the magical twink). That aside, this gen is easily my favorite in decades, and I say this knowing all of the flaws. I don't give a frick about trees. The dex cut is the only valid criticism of this gen, but the addition of all the new monsters eases the pain for me. Love this game.
