the story is divisive unless there are major changes

It's a fun game until it swapped to abby's perspective. Should've been 30m-1hr tops, like the first swap. Totally ruins the pace.
None of the new characters have the joel+ellie chemistry (post apocalypse dad is cheating)

Talking about the game is impossible. Detractors were too successful in conversation baiting.

Was going to make a separate thread but figured I'd ask it here.

I got TLOU 1 (the PS4 remaster, not the remake) for free with PS+ and figured I'd finally give it a try. What does Survival difficulty change, and would you recommend it for a first time player?

      Anonymous

      >Survivor: For players that want a considerable challenge. Supplies are extremely rare to find. Game hints, prompts, and Listen Mode are disabled. All enemies do double damage. Powerful melee weapons appear rarely. Plus, all pickup-able items no longer flash to indicate themselves to the player.
It's the mode for people who like survival horror games.

I don't really like it, but it's ok.

The negative reaction towards the game is simply unjustified. It doesn't mean I have to like Druckmann or whatever, it just means I believe it's a decent game and was fun to play through it despite some things that made me cringe like "bigot sandwich" or the little troon character. Otherwise, nothing else was bad about the game and actually the gameplay was a huge leap forward from TLOU1.

The main issue I think I have with the game is lack of openness in the level design. While they improved a bit over TLOU1, the level design was still no where near as open as I would have liked it to be. It would have been better if each level really let you explore around quite a bit, see the story of what happened in Seattle through exploration, and have multiple routes to get to your objective, each with different groups of enemies and different approaches to deal with them, including just ignoring the enemies and stealth your way past them, or use the environment to create distractions that would draw the enemies away from you like starting a fire or something. Yes, you can do these things on a smaller scale I guess.

What I would have liked to see was essentially an expanded version of the first Seattle level when Ellie / Dina arrive and start to explore the first area of the city, you had a small amount of exploration and optional content in that area and after that there just wasn't any other segment of the game like it. Such a shame.

Either way, I believe the vast majority of reactionaries simply viewed the leaks and decided how they felt about the game based on them, or cringey "anti-woke" video essays. The simple fact is just because game journos proclaim something to be a 10/10 GOTY doesn't mean you have to react to that and say it's shit, and you're not cool just because you hate something.

It's a good game. Far from perfect, but still good enough to enjoy.

      >It would have been better if each level really let you explore around quite a bit, see the story of what happened in Seattle through exploration,
All of Hillcrest Day 2, and all of Day 2 really, has all of what you described. Except everything after unfortunately cause this is more linear.
The experimentation and open design comes to live during enemy encounters, instead of everywhere else

It kind of makes other games look amateurish in comparison I mean in how believable it makes itself: the graphics animations, the dialogue and voice acting, just how grim and nihilistic it is idk it’s hard to describe but when you play/watch it it really just commands your attention even if it’s not your thing you have to admit you wish more games had this level of production value

First game was well done, passable gameplay and the story was very well written, the ending was perfect, we used to have threads every month or so with people discussing if Joel choice was right or not.

Second game was just a disaster that ruined the first game by association, they literally tried retconning the fireflies into dindus in order to make people feel sympathy for Abby.

Some games just don't need sequels, tried to continue a story that is already closed only results in abortions like The last of Us 2.
