They're not playing it because they haven't received a bounty to play it. They probably think that if they don't play it, the chances of them getting a bounty for it go up. I'm having issues getting Jam combos for one of the challenges. I'm supposed to defeat two of three enemies with it, and then I set it up and I just fail to Jam combo. What am I doing wrong?

Wrong interestingly. Hi Fi Rush is very fair. Every enemy attack takes place on the beat. Player control is not forced by the beat, but youre rewarded heavily for making sure attacks, dodges and parries are on the beat.
In a similar way, the beat doesnt change per level like it does for most rythym games. Instead you have small segments triggered by certain boss fights and certain enemies in which the beat does change.
Overall its a full experience for a reduced price compared to a AAA game.

It has plenty of combos and unlockables. The only thing, like you said, is one weapon, but that is a complaint that exists only because DMC exists. The game plays fine with one weapon and, given its length and the complexity of staying on beat as is, other weapons with a different moveset would cram the hell out of the game. Not to mention balancing.
Although other weapons that play at different tempos sounds awesome. On the fly weapon/tempo swapping would be insane.

Oh hey, I was having the same problem. It's more that the timing is absurdly fricking exact and I actually have the same issue everywhere. I had to stop playing because my hands hurt now trying to do that shit.
I wont spoil it. Also, the spectra rooms were really easy, the only difficult one was the 4x jam combo enders.
Its kind of annoying because the Spectra rooms were the only ones that made me realise how you generate reverb properly and also the fact that parry/dodge counters even fricking existed after beating the game on very hard. The entire game I though parries were useless, but in actuality its how youre supposed to win fights where the enemy has a bunch of shields or barriers up.

I just beat it earlier and there was nothing about a simulation, the AI gets unplugged, Chai leaves the room, fade to black, return to hideout. I was on Normal so unless the simulation scene is only on higher difficulty the first guy is full of shit
This game did everything right in terms of ranking/stage exploration and such. In kamiya games you have to do moronic backtracking or miss out on combat sequences which will gut your score. Also getting hit one single time will ruin a rank aswell. I really appreciate that they used the beat% instead of hits taken, and i also really appreciate that theres no moronic hidden combat sequences in every level.

Characters though carry it. They are all fantastic, heroes and villains. I am still not 100% sold on their visual design tho. Macaron has weirdly shaped head for example.

A cartoony platformer of 6/7th gen that used to be a dime a dozen back then is a breathe of air in a gaming landscape of remakes, propaganda pieces and hyper realism.
We've had people say they wanted to see what cel shading looks like with modern gaming and the fact that we dont have any ones until Hi-fi rush to show us how good cel shading looks with modern tech is a sad thing.
This is a game that would have been a breath of air even on the ps2/DS days
It's pretty clear it's taken inspiration from stuff like JSRF, MegaMan Legends, Viewtiful Joe, and Elite Beat Agents/OSU, and those were very unique even in their time.
I even like the shitty western cartoon style, something about it gives me 90's vibes done right. Startropics and shit like that.

I've watched one streamer who's been kind of ass at using a variety of moves but for some reason seems to be able to nail every parry without even trying.
Action IQ & Rhythm IQ are very different things. The Samurai Parry doesn't filter me like it seems to most and I SSS'd Korsica first try but I'm getting multiple Continues on my first runs of stages.

The samurai have different parry timings depending on what haiku they say.
i think its mainly the actual forced parries that are the same, but outside of that i dont know either. the cook one i haven't fought enough to tell the difference except 1 more move?
Like they're not BAD at keeping the rhythm for attacks, but it's the fact that the parries are so well-executed and then the actual combat just ends up being them using the basic starter shit.
I will forever feel bad for those who experience this game through someone else playing it.
Some of the fights don't hit as much with the streamer music in place.
To be fair the basic summons for Macaron & Korsica don't really do much outside of freeing enemies up, but Peppermint's assist is just a free extension to your juggle for like 4 beats. Korsica's charged assist is really good for long juggles too, best way to guarantee a fully charged held Heavy.
As for the Assist combo enders, I go with Peppermint any time I do one in midair, Macaron for grounded ones I want to put in the air, and Korsica for grounded ones where I want to stay on the ground.
replaying this outside of the rhythm tower is going to suck. The pacing worked for a first playthrough but if you're trying to go for perfect ranks I can see it getting annoying like in Kamia games.
It feels weird that they just kind of sidestep talking about the actual murders. Like, yeah, they're unethical hypercapitalists, but feels weird to just outright kill them with no real talk about it.

yeah combos are abit weird because i instinctually want to press another attack after i see one connect but you're supposed to do it literally on the hit so its less reacting to combos and more keeping the combo you want in mind and keeping on its beat.

I'm surprised this runs as well as it does on Series S, my PC is in dire need of an upgrade so I wasn't sure if I'd get a solid framerate either way, but it's been holding up without any drops.
Seeing as how The Evil Within was a game that was forced upon them whereas Hi-fi Rush was an actual game they wanted to make is a huge difference for the developers in the end. Shinji Mikami did understand that they needed a basic seller to keep the studio running but it's clear that he doesnt really LOVE to keep making horror games nonstop.
I actually really like Bayo 3 but it's the first Platinum game I've really vibed with the combat with in seven fricking years and it still isn't better than Bayo 1. The sad thing is that it took nearly a decade for Tango to actually show their Clover/Platinum pedigree because Bethesda & Zenimax wanted not-Resident Evil.
Bayo Origins seems cool though, it's also a heavily stylized game directed by a western weeb in a Japanese studio.

I am enjoying replaying HFR (despite the tutorials not being skipped) which i usually dread replaying platinum games since you need to find every hidden verse/combat to get pure plat ranks. THe last time we got a "no fat" plat game was MGR and even then it had some dumb shit like the stealth segments
Bayonetta 3 has a bunch of minigames and shit that either makes the core combat worse (the kaiju fights) or are just boring as hell.
The minigames in Hi-Fi all tie back into the rhythm game aspect, from the timed parries to the rail sequences so it's far less egregious when the game switches gears.

Honestly while the music isn't bad in the moment, it actually doesn't really stand out to me when I'm just sort of listening to it. I get the NSR comparisons are a bit done and dusted now, but NSR really had a great soundtrack all-round. HFR's OST is just... Good, at best, but it's USED very well.
NSR's achilles heel was that the soundtrack was good,it had the style, but the implementation of music into gameplay felt like nothing.
HFR can get me jamming out to songs I never would've considered in a combat context just because the implementation of music in fights is nearly perfect.

I think the only time the music was REALLY used well in NSR was 1010's fight. Everything else, sure, they attacked on beat, but they also had a lot of nothing really happening sometimes. Also DK West, but that's just a rhythm game at that point. NSR's still not terrible, it has a lot of charm to it, but man does it just not... Work on the gameplay side all that well.
HFR's devotion to put the entire game on the beat limited its OST, NSR got to go crazy since only enemy patterns were to the beat of the music, and so it had way more variety to its music. Shame the game plays like ass, but what can you expect when the directors of the game previously worked as game designers on FFXV & Street Fighter V?

He left Platinum to form his own studio with the goal of mentoring the next generation of game directors that can make games as good as him. Which ran into money troubles and thus got bought by Bethesda Zenimax. He had three students but Ikumi who was supposed to helm Ghostwire tokyo had an stress incident happen due to Zenimax and quit to form her own company. One of the other dudes John Johanas worked on this game and it's supposed to be a break from evil within and a complete opposite of it.
Mikami is one of the most prolific directors & producers the industry has ever seen. Got his start in early 90s Capcom (one of his earliest credits is on Goof Troop SNES), eventually worked his way up to director for Resident Evil, co-directed RE2, oversaw RE3, directed Dino Crisis, eventually made RE4 after multiple attempts at it were scrapped or reworked, made God Hand after that, plus plenty of other smaller credits in-between. He also convinced Capcom to do a lot of things, like give Suda51 a budget to make Killer7 and give a chance to people under his wing like Hideki Kamiya (originally meant to direct RE4, but that project became the original Devil May Cry after Mikami thought the project would be better off a new IP). After Capcom closed Clover Studios (makers of God Hand, Viewtiful Joe, Okami) he left to form Platinum with most of that staff. At Platinum he directed Vanquish and had smaller credits on other projects but in the early-mid 10s about a third of Platinum's core staff left with him to form Tango. Tango was picked up by Bethesda, with the promise of a Resident Evil-like game which lead to Evil Within. Tango was in part a way for Mikami to push even more young directors like Jon Johannes (director of Evil Within 2 & Hi-Fi Rush) and Ikumi Nakamura (long-time artist at Capcom & Platinum, originally the director of Ghostwire Tokyo before quitting to have a kid after Zenimax suits put so much pressure on her she considered suicide; she's better now and formed her own studio).
The Japanese vidya industry and certain portions of the western games industry owe a TON to Mikami, he's more important than 99.5% of people in the industry.

Wrong interestingly. Hi Fi Rush is very fair. Every enemy attack takes place on the beat. Player control is not forced by the beat, but youre rewarded heavily for making sure attacks, dodges and parries are on the beat.
In a similar way, the beat doesnt change per level like it does for most rythym games. Instead you have small segments triggered by certain boss fights and certain enemies in which the beat does change.
Overall its a full experience for a reduced price compared to a AAA game.

It has plenty of combos and unlockables. The only thing, like you said, is one weapon, but that is a complaint that exists only because DMC exists. The game plays fine with one weapon and, given its length and the complexity of staying on beat as is, other weapons with a different moveset would cram the hell out of the game. Not to mention balancing.
Although other weapons that play at different tempos sounds awesome. On the fly weapon/tempo swapping would be insane.

Its kind of annoying because the Spectra rooms were the only ones that made me realise how you generate reverb properly and also the fact that parry/dodge counters even fricking existed after beating the game on very hard. The entire game I though parries were useless, but in actuality its how youre supposed to win fights where the enemy has a bunch of shields or barriers up.

This game did everything right in terms of ranking/stage exploration and such. In kamiya games you have to do moronic backtracking or miss out on combat sequences which will gut your score. Also getting hit one single time will ruin a rank aswell. I really appreciate that they used the beat% instead of hits taken, and i also really appreciate that theres no moronic hidden combat sequences in every level.

The fact that I pretty much burnt through the entire game in 2 sittings because I knew nothing about it made me realize that the current marketing of revealing everything and letting influences have early copies, and spoil every damn aspect of the game by launch, needs to go away. Characters though carry it. They are all fantastic, heroes and villains. I am still not 100% sold on their visual design tho. Macaron has weirdly shaped head for example.
There's some holes but the game mostly just takes the piss with them. You can quit at any checkpoint and when you arrive back at the base you'll get some variant of dialogue about how that doesn't make sense and they shouldn't think about it much.
This. It's really unapologetic about mostly being an excuse for cool set pieces so it's fine in my book.

Action IQ & Rhythm IQ are very different things. The Samurai Parry doesn't filter me like it seems to most and I SSS'd Korsica first try but I'm getting multiple Continues on my first runs of stages.

To be fair the basic summons for Macaron & Korsica don't really do much outside of freeing enemies up, but Peppermint's assist is just a free extension to your juggle for like 4 beats. Korsica's charged assist is really good for long juggles too, best way to guarantee a fully charged held Heavy.
As for the Assist combo enders, I go with Peppermint any time I do one in midair, Macaron for grounded ones I want to put in the air, and Korsica for grounded ones where I want to stay on the ground.

Tango really just shitted on Platinum with this game considering all they made before this game were two third person horror games and a magic FPS.
Seeing as how The Evil Within was a game that was forced upon them whereas Hi-fi Rush was an actual game they wanted to make is a huge difference for the developers in the end. Shinji Mikami did understand that they needed a basic seller to keep the studio running but it's clear that he doesnt really LOVE to keep making horror games nonstop.

I actually really like Bayo 3 but it's the first Platinum game I've really vibed with the combat with in seven fricking years and it still isn't better than Bayo 1. The sad thing is that it took nearly a decade for Tango to actually show their Clover/Platinum pedigree because Bethesda & Zenimax wanted not-Resident Evil.
Bayo Origins seems cool though, it's also a heavily stylized game directed by a western weeb in a Japanese studio.

I am enjoying replaying HFR (despite the tutorials not being skipped) which i usually dread replaying platinum games since you need to find every hidden verse/combat to get pure plat ranks. THe last time we got a "no fat" plat game was MGR and even then it had some dumb shit like the stealth segments
Bayonetta 3 has a bunch of minigames and shit that either makes the core combat worse (the kaiju fights) or are just boring as hell.
The minigames in Hi-Fi all tie back into the rhythm game aspect, from the timed parries to the rail sequences so it's far less egregious when the game switches gears.

Honestly while the music isn't bad in the moment, it actually doesn't really stand out to me when I'm just sort of listening to it. I get the NSR comparisons are a bit done and dusted now, but NSR really had a great soundtrack all-round. HFR's OST is just... Good, at best, but it's USED very well.
NSR's achilles heel was that the soundtrack was good,it had the style, but the implementation of music into gameplay felt like nothing.
HFR can get me jamming out to songs I never would've considered in a combat context just because the implementation of music in fights is nearly perfect.
I think the only time the music was REALLY used well in NSR was 1010's fight. Everything else, sure, they attacked on beat, but they also had a lot of nothing really happening sometimes. Also DK West, but that's just a rhythm game at that point. NSR's still not terrible, it has a lot of charm to it, but man does it just not... Work on the gameplay side all that well.
HFR's devotion to put the entire game on the beat limited its OST, NSR got to go crazy since only enemy patterns were to the beat of the music, and so it had way more variety to its music. Shame the game plays like ass, but what can you expect when the directors of the game previously worked as game designers on FFXV & Street Fighter V?

He left Platinum to form his own studio with the goal of mentoring the next generation of game directors that can make games as good as him. Which ran into money troubles and thus got bought by Bethesda Zenimax. He had three students but Ikumi who was supposed to helm Ghostwire tokyo had an stress incident happen due to Zenimax and quit to form her own company. One of the other dudes John Johanas worked on this game and it's supposed to be a break from evil within and a complete opposite of it.
Mikami is one of the most prolific directors & producers the industry has ever seen. Got his start in early 90s Capcom (one of his earliest credits is on Goof Troop SNES), eventually worked his way up to director for Resident Evil, co-directed RE2, oversaw RE3, directed Dino Crisis, eventually made RE4 after multiple attempts at it were scrapped or reworked, made God Hand after that, plus plenty of other smaller credits in-between. He also convinced Capcom to do a lot of things, like give Suda51 a budget to make Killer7 and give a chance to people under his wing like Hideki Kamiya (originally meant to direct RE4, but that project became the original Devil May Cry after Mikami thought the project would be better off a new IP). After Capcom closed Clover Studios (makers of God Hand, Viewtiful Joe, Okami) he left to form Platinum with most of that staff. At Platinum he directed Vanquish and had smaller credits on other projects but in the early-mid 10s about a third of Platinum's core staff left with him to form Tango. Tango was picked up by Bethesda, with the promise of a Resident Evil-like game which lead to Evil Within. Tango was in part a way for Mikami to push even more young directors like Jon Johannes (director of Evil Within 2 & Hi-Fi Rush) and Ikumi Nakamura (long-time artist at Capcom & Platinum, originally the director of Ghostwire Tokyo before quitting to have a kid after Zenimax suits put so much pressure on her she considered suicide; she's better now and formed her own studio).
The Japanese vidya industry and certain portions of the western games industry owe a TON to Mikami, he's more important than 99.5% of people in the industry.

its getting insane word of mouth, alot of people just fell in love with it because its goofy and weird. the only thing killing it might be the deadspace remake but honestly it seems to be doing fine.
Last time an internally-developed Japanese Xbox exclusive with no marketing and a novel combination of Action with another genre that was wholly unique and had distinct art direction came out, we got Phantom Dust, and that game flopped. It's natural to want a different fate for this game.

Hitting any action button on beat just gives you a bonus, but not doing it won't hurt you.
Far better to play with the beat, than against, though.
Now that the dust has settled, we can all finally accept this troony game didn't deserve half the breathless praise it got.
