Because real people are garden gnomes and the only way to beat the garden gnome is to out garden gnome them
music in western games is elevator music. there's really no attention given to it by either the developer or the player. it's not part of the overall experience, it's just ambient *sound* so procgen'ing your white noise works out perfectly.
japanese games actually hire composers and pay attention to music as being a component of the gameplay, so they'll keep hiring real humans.
this is one of the most braindead takes i've ever heard in a while, here's your fucking (you), go outside
He's right though. Most music in most video games is exactly that. More the rule than the exception. That's why people are so happy when there's something decent. But it also allows us to appreciate it as we only recognize things once we lose them.
hum a song from a western game from the last decade
>it's only good if it has a hook you can hum
Pop music has rotted your brain
no good video game music has rotted my brain and if I can't remember after I turn the game off it's shit
is supposed to be a challenge to anyone except the zoomer morons who don't play games in this board?
Megalovania or if you count Toby as Japanese GOW Ragnoraks main them is easily recognizable.
This. Music in western games is a shitty afterthought so it might as well be randomly generated already.
There can be attention to ambient music. Not everything should be the epic master piece of a symphony.
I do prefer japanese soundtracks in general though.
This is barely the stupidest I've seen today and I just woke up. I don't doubt a single second it will be outdone many times today.
>There can be attention to ambient music
There can be but the vast majority of western games sure as fuck don't put any attention to it. Outstanding soundtracks are the exception and not the norm for western games, especially multiplayer games.
The "epic" shit is ambient trash too. Taking skyrim for example it doesn't matter if it's a calm track or a combat ine it's still all just forgettable epic movie trailer pseudoclassical with no distinct qualities or memorable motifs and can be used in just about any other game without you even noticing. I can recall the central riff of every track in the original Deus Ex. With human revolution I can't remember a single fucking thing.
the trailer music. the menu. that's it.
>Not everything should be the epic master piece of a symphony.
Thats also generic shit. Kinda funny its on your high tier list.
Symphony done right: Serpent eating the horizon from BD:
Meme bait le ebin orchestra symphony :
Pretty much. I found many western game unplayable without my own music in the background because I feel understimulated otherwise.
>They hated him because he was right
>bethesda, one of the few western studios to give a damn about good music had to get rid of their composer over liberal politics bullshit
>Todd is delaying TES6 until the culture war is over so he can hire Soule back
>made absolutely everything go wrong with fallout 76 so they would never be asked to do live service bullshit again
>inserted himself as executive producer on machine games Indiana jones game to make sure they can't pull their everybody I don't like is a nazi bullshit they did with Wolfenstein
>now making sure to save es6 from wokeness even at the cost of his dream game having a slightly worse composer
what an amazing man
trannies and libshits have no culture. they only exist to destroy it.
They apparently stopped talking to Soule years before that, because he threw a shitfit about them doing a Skyrim live orchestra without his involvement.
Although given what went down with the doom composer guy I wonder if maybe zenimax were the ones in the wrong there as well, how high up was the guy that was fucking around with the Doom guy?
>using THE bad song thread theme as an example
a few bad songs doesn't remove the good
Really if I was him I would have used that bomberman song
Although I now remember that was from an anime
There are a couple exceptions but yes its mostly elevator music. Music is not its own character anymore.
Mostly because melody is dying and its seen as old shit. Thats why movies, games and even actual music are devoid of melody these days. Its all rhythm shit.
Just compare the Batman ost from Burton > Nolan > Reeves. The last two have no flair, no hype and you wouldnt listen to the music by itself.
but The Dark Knight's OST is incredible
Rhythm > Melody
This, Ganker is filled with retards who are too stupid to appreciate proper rhythm, no doubt a result of them being stunted manchildren who unironically still enjoy bing bing wahoo shit.
I cringed over the internet because of your inceldom. You shouldn't be allowed to express yourself in public spaces.
wwhy are pajeets pushing AIshit so hard?
They have no soul.
They are not, its the exact opposite. The people who will lose most is pajeets. Who do you think people are outsourcing cheap labour too. India. Both low effort programming and art, which are going to be hurt the most by AI are giant indian industries, which is gonna get wiped.
You're one dumb moron.
artfags cope that aishills are pajeets
It's funny because both of them will lose their jobs lol
CODE RED, SIRS
I'm pretty sure like one dude on here saw one article and had now made it his life's mission to derail any thread even hinting towards AI with pajeet shit.
Cope and seethe
What compels thee?
Aside from that 1 meme Fortnite music from like 6 years ago
I don't know a single other music track from the game
They literally play Metallica and panic and other shit on the radio
good morning sirs
epic geme and fartnite good
Making everything AI to replace humans in the great reset.
Sure, NVIDIA, where "AI" find source input then?
Speaking against authority inquiries a month-long ban from accessing your bank account.
This was only for a 10ish hour period when they kicked everyone off to get the next season underway after a live event
Cope. Games don't need musicians anymore.
AI music is still way too rough to be actually listenable to. Manipulating sound files and making it sound good is a completely different ball-game to just generating text or images which are based just recognizing features in a flat, unmoving image. I'm guessing what the fortnite stuff means is just that they have a library of melodies/rhythms/chord progressions etc. which the AI can mix around and procedural generate from, not that it actually makes any original music.
There is AI music on youtube right now if you want to check it out, it's kinda fascinating but it sounds like what you'd expect a robot fucking around with sounds and rhythms rather than actual music, while also having completely shit mix.
Cope. You are being replaced.
Go listen to it right now anon, I don't think you realize how digitized sound works if you think it's that easy.
I'm sure they will get something decent going the next decade or something but right now it's way too raw.
Of course but you get what I mean. Constructing digitized sound is not remotely comparable to text gen or an image gen.
>Constructing digitized sound is not remotely comparable to text gen or an image gen.
Yes it is.
It absolutely is not. Do you have any experience with mixing sound?
The main problem so far is how the fuck do you teach an "ai" what sounds good in a mix and what is good "tone" for a specific sound. You can't just throw millions of tracks of music on it and brute force it like you can with images and text, it will just end up sounding like a cacophony of sounds with completely schizophrenic mix.
And that's not even mentioning song structure or harmonics and all it's conditional variances.
>The main problem so far is how the fuck do you teach an "ai" what sounds good in a mix and what is good "tone" for a specific sound.
It's simple. You train another neural network to judge if it sounds good or trash. Use good sounds as positive example and random noise as negative and it will learn to distinguish good songs from trash.
>Use good sounds
define good sounds
Songs actually listened by humans. Just download random crap from Spotify on top lists and it will be decent anough.
>spotify top lists
all absolute garbage
People still remember the beatles more than half a century after wards. Nobody is going to remember whatever mumbling moron is toping the charts right now a year down the line. You're an idiot with extremely shit tastes.
Anon you don't seem to get the problem here, music doesn't have "good/bad" sounds. It's all about the mix and context of the sounds, which means it's always conditional and relative and that's absolute poison for machine learning which necessitates "pure" samples to learn correct behavior.
A clean electric guitar sound will sound great in a mellow jazz song but will sound like absolute shit in metal or pop song. And that's just taking an extremely easy example only relating to tone, there's a lot more complex issues at play.
There is no feasible way to teach the machine what constitutes good sound in the correct context in the correct mix in the correct genre and so on. It's completely relative and machine learning does not deal well with relative conditions.
>It's all about the mix and context of the sounds
Actually it's all about marketing. People will listen to whatever the fuck you overexpose them to and market well enough. The audio is tertiary to it all.
Yes, you are correct. It's cool, and maybe will help people learn, but it's very hard to replace a full orchestra and the types of performances you can get.
Same thing as the people who arrange digitally...It's always lacking.
Doesn't matter to me either way. I am a multimillionaire.
You mean you can buy 100k DLCs to make games have better soundtracks? I didnt know that
The music is just as original as any text or image made by an "ai."
>a robot fucking around with sounds and rhythms rather than actual music
I can't wait for the inevitable "AI MUSIC ISN'T REAL MUSIC" threads.
We already have them for art/voices/text so why not music too?
>them for art/voices/text
AI art is so bland and shitty people xam tell just from the thumbnail alone
Voicegen is unconvincing and is only of any use when it comes to unfunny reddit dagoth/US presidents memes
MTL is pure unintelligible cancer and the bane of h-games
I don't think you're making a very positive argument for AI at all
I was making a statement. Try reading the entire post next time.
These news are like a year old and Quartz already entered Fortnite in beta form two years ago, it's old. It's designed to generate generic lo-fi beats so that streamers can have some form of muzak on without being copyright strike, it's not meant to replace composers.
Machine learning (it's not AI) can be used to generate ambient music that sounds pretty alright but it absolutely struggles to do anything else. I could see it probably being good at doing like trap beats in the future or something since you can make one of those in 20 minutes with little effort.
>it's not AI
Anon, you aren't going to sell your product if you keep saying these things.
>music is created by the Quartz subsystem
>[Quartz] is designed to generate generic lo-fi beats so that streamers can have some form of muzak
Quartz is a clock subsystem that does nothing except help track and schedule time globally in Unreal Engine. It calculates latency and is able to play audio accurately down to the sample. With it you can do things like quantize events to beats or vice versa, ensure synchronicity between tracks and other things that really simplifies the workflow for audio and music.
It does not generate its own music. Unreal Engine's Metasounds can be used with Quartz to make procedural soundtracks, but this is not AI, and works based on the same principles as a classic synthesizer.
It takes a very real person with a very real understanding of digital signal manipulation to do all of this and AI is not stealing anybodys job yet.
If you want to know more, here's a video from the lead engineer behind it:
sirs please show beeps
Procedurally generated is not the same as AI created. They are just doing the same shit that games have done for ages of mixing in and out tracks based on context.
Nope, this is AI, and it's replacing you musicians. Seethe and go play your banjo by the river.
Good morning sir tde Ai ardts will produce infinite blossumful bog and vagene forever da Aryan race has done the won again and the AI will put tda human ardtist behind da bar very needful AI sir good sir.
have you guys noticed that licensed music is now dead? nobody wants to use it because of the copyright bullshit
congrats mr big sound producers, your anti piracy shit worked and now nobody even knows who you are because there's nobody to promote your shit for free
Fortnite is the definition of goyslop gaming.
It’s gaming in the same way the MCU are movies or McDonald’s is food.
It’s something that’s a game purely by a technically definition but aspires to be nothing but a time waster with no emotional, artistic or spiritual goals. Even the most juvenile games of the SNES or PS2 era had some emotional core.
Everything in Fortnite is about being Good Enough to keep peoples attention. Sometimes that threshold is high, other times it’s low. But it’s never interested in being anything other than a Good Enough game to keep people playing and spending.
The procedurally generated music means that they just need Good Enough sound arrangements so players don’t notice it since silence is too little sound.
Fortnite is like white noise when you want to sleep. Except it’s basically white noise designed to keep you awake with the least amount of mental bandwidth usage possible
Have you even played the game?
SLOP HAHAHHAHAH HE SAID IT HAHAHAHAHAH XD SLOP HAHAHAHAHAHAH LOOOOOOOL XD GOYSLOP HHAHAHA SLOPPY SLOPPY GOY SLOPPY GOY GOY SLOPPY LOLXD GOYSLOP SLOYGOP I GET FUCKED IN THE ASS BY BIG BLACK moronS AND SLOPSLOPSLOP IS THE NOISE MY ASSHOLE MAKES WHILE TYRONE POUNDS IT SLOP SLOP SLOP SLOP SLOP SLOP OH YEAH DADDY CLAP MY DAINTY LITTLE FAIRY BOY CHEEKS SLOP SLOP SLOP SLOOOOOOOOOP AHHHHHHH
utterly broken numale
Reminds me of this.
>accidentaly procedurally generates the entirety of Smooth Criminal
time for barnkruptcy-hee
"AI generated" music has been around for over 40 years
Good Morning Sirs
>soulless game is using soulless machine for to pander to zoomers
you need to be over 18 to post here zoomer
Very obvious that these threads are just made to demoralise anons and when OP doesn't get replies he has to put the thread on life support. Go outside anon, enjoy life and seize the day.
Yeah, they needed to have copyright free songs for streaming.
I mean sure, if you are not streaming it's better to have an actual soundtrack, but I don't see it as the end of soul in gaming, it's more like a band-aid for a temporary problem.
that's retarded. even white noise and recordings of birds chirping got copyright strikes.
>procedurally generated music avoids copyright
how? all works are copyrighted as soon as they're fixed in a medium.
AI generating music seems like the easiest thing, since most popular songs only use like 5 chords
>noooo le AI is taking away art and music jobs
Fuck off retard. The only people who should be afraid of AI doing this are shitty third rate artists that are probably already struggling to make a living anyway. Professionals working in the industry are far beyond what AI are capable of and have nothing to fear, while amateurs like myself who are truly passionate about it don't give a fuck. I want to realize MY musical ideas that come from MY personal creativity, no AI no matter how good with anything short of complete mind reading technology will ever be able to make it exactly as I want it to because it will not be able to understand what I want to make on the level I do. And if that mind reading tech does ever become available then good luck to society, art will be the least of our problems then.
>Professionals working in the industry are far beyond what AI are capable
Uhh...and that great music made by the professionals working...uh..where is it? Certainly not in movies anymore. Nor in the majority of games.
You're clearly trying to steer this down the path of dismissing the subjective quality of music in all modern games as bad because you're either retarded or arguing in bad faith I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and post a couple tracks that I like from both eastern and western games over a variety of different genres. Also if you wanna say they're shit then please attempt to give at least a cursory analysis on them to prove you know what the fuck you're talking about. Also keep in mind that I'm saying the music is good not the games themselves, so if you're gonna be a bitch that genshin and halo infinite are there then you can fuck off. Regardless though the composers of these have full time jobs making these things and they sure as hell are at no risk of being displaced by AI tech that is still extremely primitive and needs to be cleaned up and edited by someone with actual industry and technical knowledge anyway.
A metalhead retard, no wonder.
I will give you velkhana. the rest can be easily done by AI. And its as generic as it can be. Literally nothing praiseworthy or even noteworthy.
There is one metal track among the five I posted retard, having electric guitars doesn't automatically make something metal
That Halo song is exactly the kind of uninspired shit AI was created to make.
This is ai generated, you can make it by yourself in 2 minutes. Its literally generic overworld videogame music. Might be even called good by retards like you.
Generic is such a nothing comment, how about you define what you mean by non generic music gay?
Stuff with distinctive and strong melodies and motifs. I posted already an AI song thats literally not much better or worse than your halo shit.
Just google AIVA AI on youtube, half of that shit is 99% usable for most western games.
>melody is the only component in songwriting
Thanks for showing me your knowledge of music theory is pedestrian and surface level.
I already explained that music is made of harmony, rhythm and melody. And most modern compositions lack in the melody aspect. I play like half a dozen instruments, Dont ever lecture me again.
Whatever is missing from AI compositions like these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Emidxpkyk6o is also missing from shit like these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp9DDjBQx3Q
It can be done with AI. And the average modern western AAA ost is crap that can be easily replaced with ai. No whats or ifs. Any shit straight up from aiva ai could pass as one of those songs you posted and you would not even notice it. The human element is also lacking with humans too.
>I play like half a dozen instruments
sure you do and I fuck half a dozen women a week
It's sad that you think playing six instruments is as unattainable as banging six different women a week
if you're splitting your time between so many instruments you either do music for a living or suck at all of them, which is it?
post your compositions if you're such a badass
BROS, I THOUGHT AI WAS SHIT! IT STILL CAN'T DO HANDS!!! HOW IS THIS HAPPENING TO MEEEEEEEEE!!!!
They've also got a ton of licensed music in there. I got in a car while playing the other day and heard fuckin For Whom The Bell Tolls.
Ah, the beauties of automation. Truly a futuristic wonderland.
how will poor pajeet cope
robots have been making music for decades
Musician here. Procedurally generated music is not new and also not AI.
Post your music
There's a track of mine in this set.
