Even with the knowledge that there's no more roadmap since Japan finally got The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls, the question remains for all four of these games: how the frick were these not launch games for the GB/C app?
Alleyway (not!Breakout) and Baseball alone are obvious given the NES version of the latter was part of the original 20 nearly SIX YEARS AGO, plus Super Mario Land and 2 should've both been there or at the least swapped given how much simpler the original is and gives a good tease for a beloved game like Land 2. Plus Frog Bell would've been another good Japan-only game instead of bloody Yakuman, which is just Nintendo-brand Japanese Mahjong.
And no, said 3/4 being the GB's launch titles isn't a good excuse for this being so late and in the middle of bumfrick nowhere. This being a month-later update between the launch and the actual first one with BurgerTime and Kirby's Dream Land 2 would've been cute, but frick this.

They could always convince more third party companies to release their old games on it. Like Rare's non-DKC games were a real surprise, but even that will eventually run out and they won't have any more noteworthy games.

        >so they’ll just start over
I fricking hope not. If they already have all this NSO set up and ready to use, there's no REAL reason why it can't just be available from the start. nobody is paying more just for NSO, it's just an added bonus to the online service. but I know they wont do that.

didn't Kitase (or someone) mention they were into remaking Chrono Trigger in an interview? I really think DQ Builders 3 should be a Chrono Builder type of game.

      Anonymous

Going off what you said, Square Enix clearly doesn't want to have much put on Nintendo's own subscription service instead of just selling them for more money. Doesn't go much deeper than that. The real question is why the company is barely porting Chrono Trigger. Easily one of the biggest Nintendo console releases not playable yet on Switch. Dragon Quest IV-VI are also overdue.

      > I think all these collection and ports are the reason why NSO is lacking
No question. You can get an impressive retro library going, but it's going to cost you a penny.

Square Enix doesn't even have The After Years available on any Nintendo platform. And I do agree the Zenithia trilogy needs to be made released. What about Final Fantasy Mystic Quest? Or any of the other Seiken Densetsu titles not released in remakes or ports like Sword of Mana?

i somewhat regret not buying some titles on the Wii VC whereas other titles would be on the next console VC or as compilations. I do own the DS version of CT and GBA version of FFVI.

Lol. Lmao. They will always remake GC/Wii and 3DS games for you to purchase at less than full price. The way Nintendo underclocked everything makes it impossible to play GameCube games without some frickery/remake.

at this point i'm convinced GCN games wont ever be on the library due to their enourmous size and costs.

          Anonymous

Yeah, the size in general is the main issue with Gamecube and Wii services. Otherwise I would say that might be about as far as they go up. Gamecube could stretch it with around the size of a bigger first-party game download if the library wasn't too large, but it still would be a way bigger challenge than the services so far or a possible DS one later on. Wii seems too far.

      Anonymous

Yeah, the only issue with DS games is the lack of dual screens, but I can see them already planning to do them in some capacity. Possible the next console's gimmick could benefit DS games in some fashion, yet even if not I imagine a surprising amount of DS games could technically be done with the right screen set-ups.

        Anonymous

I mean they relegated all of pokemon DPPt's touch screen functions to a tiny customizable window in the remakes, but i guess those games barely used the touch screen at all in the first place.

          Anonymous

The best compromise would be to offer an easy set of screen set-ups for each game so that players don't have to actually bother. Yeah, they could go the extra lazy route and not do that, but it's going to be rough as hell.

            Anonymous

The problem is that every DS game uses the touch screen in an incredibly different way. at best if the new switch can run like the wii u with a different display on the TV and on the game pad, it could work.

    >Shortly after closing, announce a NEW NSO with at least a $15 increase in price, but now with GAMECUBE games (Switch successor exclusive)
    How plausible is this?

      Anonymous

they're never adding gamecube games. one gamecube game is about 90x bigger in file size than one N64 game. at best, they might let you pick and choose like 3 that you want to have downloaded at any time.

in mario bros 1, if mario is moving downwards when he hits an enemy, it will never kill him. it doesn't check to see if you're landing on top of it, or moving downwards through the side of it. maybe sml1 is like that too

  27. 2 weeks ago

How many Gamecube games would even be likely to get added? TTYD isn't happening anytime soon with the remake and something similar could happen if we see Wind Waker and Twilight Princess with their HD versions ported soon, so that already cuts out some options.

      >How many Gamecube games would even be likely to get added?
people will likely clamor for SSBM but they'll never port that anywhere. Smash is an iterative game and they don't want to support old ones when new ones are still being made.
