Now that it's all over, we can all agree this was the best battle in the entire show, right?

One of them at least.
It's certainly up there, I'd say ash vs sawyer is better in terms of animation. A remaster of this fight with the newer animation would be great.
This battle with XY's art style and Charizard vs Pikachu's animation would be ridiculously cool, but too much to hope for.
>XY's art style
I mean if you WANT it to turn into soulless chinese mobile game ad tier garbage then go ahead I guess.
>muh animation
Bet you'd enjoy a shit sandwich if it was decorated with sprinkles.
>in terms of animation
most of it was under 3 fps you fricking XY clown
all flash and no substance. Sums up XY.
Yeah
They even put it into the the very last opening of the ashnime
One of them, but it gets too much praise. It's honestly not nearly as good without the build up and context. Ash vs Leon and Ash vs Kukui both beat it. I'd say it ties with Ash vs Shota, the latter closing the gap via animation and music.
>Ash vs Shota
As opposed to Satoshi vs Sawyer?
>it's honestly not nearly as good without the build up and context.
>The battle is not good if you remove of the reasons why it it was so good
Wooooooooooooooooooooow.
In that case let's remove the sakuga of Ash vs Shota and let's also remove the sakuga and Pikachu's getting a power of friendship boost by all the reserves cheering on him from the void from Leon's battle too.
And of course we should also not take into account Pikachu vs Tapu Koko for the Kukui battle either.
Fricking moron.
Ash vs Leon was trash, not even the best battle of the M8. 3 minutes of good Pikachu animation at the end, and the only reason people liked it is because Pikachu won.
Ash vs Kukui is fine, but Pauls was better
This. Ash vs Leon was carried by the final clash of Pikachu vs Charizard so hard it hurts.
Without that it would have been average to good at best. Animation until then had been nothing special and the build-up for it, like so many other things in Journeys, had been so piss-poor it completely lacked in weight.
Anything involving Pikachu taking down an uber Pokemon is so cringe it eclipses the animation due to unrealistic it is.
No matter how well animated a fight is, seeing a large monster getting ragdolled/overwhelmed by a tiny rat is nothing short of comedy.
Its what charitard deserves
>Charizardino
>Uber
LOL
Remember, no KOs.
KWAB
>And lost to tinychu
It's over for zardgays. They will never live this down regardless of how many forms they get,
could be worse i guess, could lose to a pokemon that was born a week ago
>could be worse i guess,
It really cant, charizard was absolutely pathetic in the final. 0 KOs and lost to a Pikachu 2v1. Ash exposed Leon
the only good thing was that 3 minutes of good animation and seeing Pikachu kick its ass + the undignied way it fainted, easy to make fun of
>Paul is the anime version of Silver
He is. But better
Paul is the best rival in the franchise
I agree. I feel like Paul/Tobias are last hype battles of the series. Every "last" battle after that was just Pikachu/Greninja clashing with whatever last mon the opponent has.
>Pikachu vs Tapu Koko
>Greninja vs Charizard and x times Sceptile
>Pikachu vs Charizard
On top of the gimmick of the year moronation, It turned into typical shounen battle homosexualry and Ash just not winning with whatever mon he had left. Even black and white were more interesting in its league battles and those battles were TRASH.
yeah the gimmicks feel so weird as someone who watched OS-DP
One of the best. Its hard to pinpoint the truly best battle in the anime.
Based
Shut the frick up Cameron you moronic piece of shit. You will always be the worst thing to ever happen to the anime.
Ash's Charizard vs Articuno should be there
it is
>Cameron
Just hearing that name upsets me. I don't mind watching Ash lose if he goes down in a blaze of glory. But Cameron just clowned on him. God damn.
Ash should rematch Cameron's Lucario to crush it with his own superior model
If they had to make him lose then it should have been against the guy with a full Eeveelution team rather than a literal moron who thought he needed 7 badges, didn’t register, had only one fully trained mon and a bunch of jobbers and went in with 5 Pokémon.its even more baffling that they set the Eeveelution guy up as a rival yet Ash never battled the guy at all during the league and he was the one who won the dam thing.
I will seriously never understand what the frick they were thinking with the BW anime.
Even with things like Tobias and Kalos League you can "see the logic" but there's just no way for anything with BW.
You can't even use muh soft-reboot as logic since unlike Indigo it was not a lesson in "hubris" or anything. There was absolutely nothing going for it.
One of reasons people hate gen 5
I hate how S/M looks so fricking bad in screencaps. It looks great in motion but so stupid in stills.
Artstyle matters.
You can have all the sakuga in the world but it'll look like shit if the artstyle is shit.
Pain vs Naruto is very well animated, but you know what? No one fricking likes it because it's unpleasant to the eye.
>No one fricking likes it because it's unpleasant to the eye.
But that's the thing, it's not unpleasant to the eye at all as long as you don't press pause. In fact I'd argue it's the most visually appealing artstyle out of all the gens.
Well, you are entitled to your opinion, but many disagree with you.
>It's honestly not nearly as good without the build up and context
Duuuuh
That's why it's so good, moron
>Solo'd a third of Ash's team
What the frick was Paul feeding this thing?
He got it from Kincaid
Ash vs Leon is the best battle in the series, hands down.
worst final season battle*
>lose to Ash
>be so ashamed that you refuse to participate in the biggest tournament in the world
>no excuse like Gary who has been researching shit and doing missions for a while.
Paul is a b***h.
You can't job at the Masters 8 if you don't participate in the Masters 8. That was Alain's mistake.
And the best settled rivalry too
In the end, I guess it's appropiate that Ash's journey ended in a battle for KANTOOOOOOOOOOOO Supremacy
>first league lost
>Ash Charizard vs Ritchie Pikachu
>lose
>final world championship
>Ash Pikachu vs Leon Charizard
>win
I kneel PikaGODs
then why couldn't he beat Alain Zard before it mega'd?
It wasn't down to the final stretch between charizard and pikachu.
It's very good, and probably the fight with the most emotional impact. It wasn't just a league loss on the line, it was his very viewpoint on the treatment of his pokemon.
My only complaint was having Torterra job hard and maybe Paul using literally who's instead of team members that Ash needed some revenge on, like that beast of an Ursaring.
>like that beast of an Ursaring
Eh, seeing Infernape beat it a fourth time would've been boring
>having Torterra job hard
Silly anon, that was the running theme of the sinnoh arc. It was never allowed to truly shine with a lose streak that made ash unova mons and his pathetic dragonite blush.
The Paul using a different team I give a pass since that's very in-character for Paul.
Torterra's never being allowed to win even once after it evolved is one of DP's biggest black stains, if not the biggest. It's specially awful since Paul's Torterra gave it training and tips on how to deal with his newer bulkier slower body.
How come nobody really acknowledges that Paul is the anime version of Silver in the same way that Ash is the anime version of Red?
What are you talking about? I've seen people making that comparison for years now
He's literally the same character withe the same arc besides the angstiness.
Even his design is somewhat reminiscent of Silver's design
It was honestly. Pauls Torterra had more wins than Ash's. Seeing it use Stone Edge made me reconsider how I felt about it.
>My only complaint was having Torterra job hard
Ash sucks with quadrapeds and bulky mons (unless they are fast moving like Snorlax)
Paul had to replace half his team with jobbers because the writers couldn't come up with any better way to justify Ash winning.
Reminds me of Ash vs Gary in Johto League where a Pikachu vs Umbreon rematch was a no-brainer but neither were even on their teams.
>Paul using literally who's instead of team members that Ash needed some revenge on
Well that was kind of the point. Ash is a sentimentalist trying to achieve an emotional victory meanwhile Paul is a pragmatist who couldn't give less of a shit about things like that.
Ash and Paul were perfect foils of each other. If Ash would do one thing then Paul would probably do the opposite and vice versa. That's a large part of why their rivalry was so great.
Like if Paul was a more generic less-interesting douchebag rival he'd actually probably would have used his Lake Acuity team to try to flex on Ash by beating him with the same team twice. But Paul is too interesting of a character to go for such an obvious cliche.
It was hilarious seeing his Drapion fold shit left and right. Just like Leon, Ash won with gimmick homosexualry
>Use Close Combat on the ground!
>Use Flare Blitz under the arena!
>Use Ice Aqua Jet!
>Infernape use your super secret awesome sauce special ability and literally become unkillable!
>"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! YOU CAN'T JUST THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX!"
>"YOU HAVE TO DO LE HECKIN WHOLESOME 100 CHUNGUS TURN BASED 1996 GAMBOY JRPG FITE!"
Riddle me this then homosexual, why did no one else use such gimmicks? Paul used counter shield ONCE and every trainer after battled like normal. Tell me what other trainer has had mons invent new moves? Or have a gimmick linked to only it? Or faint repeatedly and get back up to tank more attacks? Go on ill wait. Explain to me why Infernape 1 shotting Aggron is accepted but criticism of it using MUTIPLE flare blitzes and getting hit by Electivire is not. Bet your stupid ass thinks Pikachu being knocked out for over 2 minutes is just le heckin nail baiting awesome shounen and not some stupid ass pull to make Ash win. Frick out my face homosexual, that's why the best battles are when Ash gets his ass reamed despite his Arceus power.
Holy autism Batman!
Are people saying Ash vs Leon is bad just to be contrarians or be edgy?
>Not dicksucking it as the best fight ever in the history of the anime because of one single standout scene = saying it is bad
Meds.
Seems like it.
It was only good at the last minute
yep, it made drapion my favorite pokemon
Actually Ash facing Paul at the lake was the peak. But they had two episodes for that shit.
Paul was so good they brought him back to the show to train Ash for the master's league (and it worked!).
DP was one of the longer generations, so you had 4 years leading up. They had multiple fights and rematches over that time, and Ash felt like the definitive underdog. 3 episode length was rare, and reinforced how even they were with constant back-and-forth strategies. Other fights just don't compare.
The craziest thing is, as per usual with Journeys, Paul's return was something they thought and decided on at the last minute and was not planned at all and yet it was by far the best return and was one if not the returnee treated with the most respect.
He's such a good character that even the fricking hacks in charge of the anime nowadays couldn't find a way to frick him up.
the only gripe I have is he didn't use his electivire
Nah, that was part of the soul and a show of how much Paul has grown-up. He was not there to tryhard it up but to train Ash.
More importantly, the fact that he could match up PM Ash with three Pokemon he raised for the express purpose of training Ash, not his A Listers, says a lot about how strong he still is.
I might just be nostalgiagayging, but I always liked the one at the end of Johto where the guy (Harrison, I think?) brings out Blaziken vs Ash's Charizard
League was the highlight of the Johto part for sure.
This is by far the best battle of the series when it comes towards strategy on both sides and ashes unique quick thinking but XY has it beat only in terms of animation. If Ash vs Paul had the XY animation it would be # 1 for sure.
>Pikachu vs Raichu
>Charizard vs Magmar
>Ash vs Team Rocket for the Earth Badge
>The Indigo League
>Ash vs Drake
>Ash vs Harrison
>Ash vs Gary
>The Hoenn League
>Ash vs Paul mutiple times
>Paul vs Brandon
>Paul vs Cynthia
>Ash vs Tobias
>Ash vs Frontier Brains
>The Sinnoh League
Those are the best battles imo. Honorable mentions go to Alain, Kukui, and Shotas battles.
we are still yet to see the end, ash could fight red or his dad and that might surpass it
just kidding this anime isn't written by fanfiction writers though ash vs leon would make it seem like it was
Top 3 (not ordered) are Ash vs Paul, Ash vs Leon and Ash vs Kukui.
Paul's Ursaring was Chimchar's personal jobber
Infernape would've beaten him easily
It was good, but I prefer the one at lake Acuity, even if Ash got his ass kicked.
I love that battle cause the moron went on that wienery "im moral thus im better" bullshit and Paul fricking smeared his ass against the floor.
On a scale from Vegeta to Kaiba how good is Paul as a rival?
He's at least a Hiei
Sinnoh League and Battle Frontier were the peak of the anime.
