I went in expecting a 6, hoping for a 7, and got an 8. I couldn't believe how enjoyable it all was, especially after a somewhat weak opening 30 minutes. If Island 3 didn't kind of suck more often than not I'd like it even more. Helps that I liked playing around with the combat a lot and enjoyed the pinball/shmup stuff.
I don't know about good, but they're marketing strategy with this game was smart at least. They forced the switch game to be relatively close in performance (closer than it should be) and marketed it as the big holiday switch title (all the commercials I saw were telling parents to buy it for christmas). Because this was a relatively light year from Nintendo it seemed to work and it sold a lot.
been playing through it. Tried one normal stage and it sucked so much dick that I havent touched one since. Got all the keys I need in each world through fishing and exploration.
How the frick did they make a sonic game where the open world gameplay is leagues better than the stages? The stages are awful.
Because boost mechanics are generally bad for linear gameplay but actually work in open spaces. The 2D cyberspace stages varied but I generally didn't care for the 3D ones.
Around half of the Cyberspace levels are good, I'd argue 1-2 over half, but the bad ones feel so bad. The 2D ones are all decent (except the Sky Sanctuary ones) and the 3D ones are a huge mixed bag but I enjoyed enough to at least feel each new one out before deciding to go for any keys on it. Just avoid the one that uses the Unleashed drifting like the plague, it's total shit
>Just avoid the one that uses the Unleashed drifting like the plague, it's total shit
Just jump over the drift pads. That's literally all you need to do.
No its completely average. Your expectations have just been lowered so much and SEGA has starved you of content for so long you are overinflating its quality. Its a genius marketing strategy. Starve everyone for half a decade and release a cheaply made tech demo. All that's left to do is collect profit.
A cycle of waiting 3-4 years for a relatively excellent Sonic game wouldn’t be worth Nintendo burning one of the most active fan project scenes in all of vidya to the ground
It'd be better if they released an actually completed game and not an alpha. Get back to me when the "DLC that totally isn't just the rest of the game" drops.
>Nintendo makes an actually great Sonic game every few years while fangames get snuffed out of existence >Sega continues to make extremely mediocre Sonic games every four to five years while fans churn out endless tech demos that never go anywhere
lmao yeah real big conundrum there-- >no more SRB2
Oh fugg yeah okay that is a tough call, jesus. Then of course there's the fact that we'd never get PC ports and games would be locked to 30 FPS at best.
Do these Black folk not realize that if they put chaos in the game it would immediately sell twice as much?
In fact they could cut sonic out all together and just make a chao game and that would sell 10 million.
No, it's fricking garbage. The open world is boring and repetitive, the cyberspace levels are miserable and derivative, and the story is all the worst traits of Ian Flynn's writing cranked up to 11.
if they can ditch the floating rails bs and add some actual level design in the open world areas in the next game/DLC they might have a it good/10 on their hands
Beat it the other day. Characterization's the best it's been in a Sonic game since Unleashed, that was cool. Open world shenanigans work but it falters at the midpoint - island 3 is too littered with gimmick sections for running around to be any fun and island 4 is one big gimmick section that lasts like 15 minutes - but the first 2 and the last one are great. Also didn't really like any of the bosses due to them being cinematic QTE horseshit straight out of 2008. The true final boss is the one exception, that shit was damn based. Also, Dear Father nearly broke me. Overall, I'd give it a 7/10. You don't get this kind of charming jank much these days, I liked that about it.
game peaked at the first island, second island was garbage and the 3rd made me drop the game
once you realize that you're literally doing the exact same thing multiple times you realize how much of a hackjob it is
It was okay--good for a newer game I guess?
But I replayed SA2 afterwards and it's just so much more fun to play a story where things are happening. Like the characters are going places and doing things? Almost nothing happens in Frontiers. The big bosses were cool, even if it was just the RAY fight split into thirds and spread out. I don't really play open world games, so you tell me, is it just "good for an open world game" and that's like the main source of praise?
I'm a big fan, I liked that we got an okay game, I was able to go to a local Sonic fan event and see everyone in high spirits because of it, and that was nice. But I personally would not go so far as to call it good in the way the old games were good.
Actually, the fishing was good and made me laugh like really hard, I love the freaky, realistic fish.
Yeah the numetal stuff was unexpected but great, loved when the bass sounded like Korn in some songs. I was slightly let down that Vandalize My Heart didn't play in the actual game, I wanted to hear Sonic sing "Frick the pain away, my bed is in ruins" during the final boss or something.
Literally fricking total and complete garbage, unironically one of the worst sonic games they have ever shat out, made me rethink if I even liked sonic at all
yes

Yes
Played it for a couple hours and didn't have any fun with it
Even Forces was better
WHY THE FRICK WONT THEY BRING BACK THE CHAOS?
They are living with knuckles
Plus chaos lived on human environment and they haven't reached that yet,we have humans again so maybe the next game
No. It's fricking garbage. Game is a glorified tech demo and most of the gameplay is rail grinding.
been playing through it. Tried one normal stage and it sucked so much dick that I havent touched one since. Got all the keys I need in each world through fishing and exploration.

Don't worry the cyberspace wholesale copied from better Sonic games are good.
Because boost mechanics are generally bad for linear gameplay but actually work in open spaces. The 2D cyberspace stages varied but I generally didn't care for the 3D ones.

I really wish Nintendo would buy Sega just to make better Sonic games but obviously they're too expensive to justify for just that.
A cycle of waiting 3-4 years for a relatively excellent Sonic game wouldn’t be worth Nintendo burning one of the most active fan project scenes in all of vidya to the ground

Froggays like you don't deserve the right to an opinion
It is embarrassingly bad from a technical standpoint but if you can get past that there is some fun to be had
it ok/10
if they can ditch the floating rails bs and add some actual level design in the open world areas in the next game/DLC they might have a it good/10 on their hands
LISTEN TO THE MIND OF A DIFFERENT KIND
WE'VE BEEN GROWING SLOWLY
YOU THINK I'M ON ELEVEN BUT I'M ON A NINE
GUESS YOU DON'T REALLY KNOW ME

It was alright and I’m patiently waiting on the DLC

I like it especially the OST I wasn't expecting it but I was jamming to it

never doubt sonic
