They destroyed the one thing saving Bethesda games, it was fun to explore and find things randomly. Now it’s the same 10 different points of interest.
Yes, a lot of the other things can be patched or modded. Some things can't such as the dialogue, but they wouldn't matter all that much if everything else was up to par. Space travel is just endless loading screens, ground travel is just sprinting along with jetpacks to objective markers.
>game about exploration >space travel is a series of a loading screens >space flight is being trapped in some bubble in orbit unless you want to press W for 7 hours >planet exploration is webm related
7/10 game at best
As soon as I saw the first trailer I knew that it would be bad. Nothing the trailers showed looked like anything new or interesting but i was comparing it a lot to no mans sky. Come release date I dont know why its not 60 fps the game is ugly as sin but maybe its due to the highly outdated engine they for some reason just refuse to retire. Everytime I see someone playing it, It looks like the most boring lifeless game ive ever seen. Its hot garbage fire. All these first party games just suck now.
>Starfield has worse exploration than Morrowind
You cannot land your ship right outside a city and walk in, you’ll eventually hit an invisible wall. This applies to all ship landings as well, you eventually hit invisible walls. This is worse than Morrowind where you could literally levitate to a city and walk in
Once inside a city you can’t walk out and explore the rest of the planet, you have to land somewhere. This is worse than Morrowind where you could do this
There are no vehicles, mounts, or alternate methods of travel outside walking and a jet pack with limited functionality. This is worse than Morrowind’s levitation spells and fortify acrobatics magic effect (obtainable through gear, spells, or potions) as well as Oblivion since even Obliviin had horses
Even with walking there are only two ways to improve your speed, one is through an Amp that increases your moment speed by 35% for 2 minutes or through the Dueling perk that increases your speed by 20% for 10 seconds after a kill. This is worse than Morrowind which had the fortify speed effect (obtainable through gear, spells, and potions)
Even though there are few ways of getting around and increasing your movement speed Starfield is filled with barren planets that were procedurally generated. This is worse than Morrowind which had greater content density and handcrafted content that was carefully placed on the map
There is no map in Starfield. This is worse than Morrowind, which had both an in-game map and a physical one (although no quest markers)
There is no single, large contiguous map to explore. This is worse than Morrowind that did have this
>You cannot land your ship right outside a city and walk in
Weird, I guess I got a different version than you because you absolutely can do that. >Once inside a city you can’t walk out and explore the rest of the planet
Yes, you can.
Why even lie about shit like that?
There is plenty of real critique to be had about SF, like not having rovers, or the jankiness of the shipbuilder, or the faces.
>Once inside a city you can’t walk out and explore the rest of the planet
Is that why there's an open path left of the Lodge that leads outside the city and into the open world of Jemison? Have ANY of you fucking retards played the game?
I suspect what the guy is saying is you can’t pick a landing zone that isn’t the city itself but close to it and also go into the city, which is something you can only do via console commands to remove the landing icon, and is also a stupid complaint
>Starfield manages to be a step back from even Fallout 4 in some ways
Although Fallout 4 basically made power armor into mech suits there are no mechs in this game, they’re “illegal” which apparently means they flat don’t exist, not even pirates have them which makes no sense
Combat is identical to Fallout 4 except there is no gore or VATS so it has less to differentiate itself from any other generic FPS
There is settlement building but other aspects of the game basically make it a worthless investment
>What Starfield uniquely brings to the table isn’t terribly impressive
You can build your own ship but because you don’t really use your ship much this feature isn’t significant. You can’t fly your ship over the surface of the planet nor manually land it, you likely aren’t going to fly it that often because there is little point, and aside from that all there is, is a space battle minigame that isn’t very good. So while it’s nice it isn’t groundbreaking
There is a NG+ which changes a few things when you enter a new universe. However the game goes nowhere far enough with this, the changes are relatively minor and few and far in-between. This also makes settlement building a less worthwhile investment since your settlements do not carry over to NG+ anyways
The sheer quantity of content in this game, I guess, is something unique. However a lot of it will involve completely barren planets with recycled content anyways. There are a lot of side quests but they are hit or miss and they do not meaningfully impact the game when you complete them
Starfield does not let you kill any NPC which is also a step back from Morrowind
Starfield’s story is not groundbreaking either and is basically just a rehash of Skyrim, instead of collecting words of power it’s artifacts, instead of Dragonborn you’re the Starborn
And lastly Starfield has terrible performance, its “recommended” requirements will give you sub 30 FPS at 1440p
mechs and their banning is really bizarre, it would be like banning tanks, honestly feels like they wanted "cool sci-fi thing" but didn't want to put any effort into implementing it
that or they couldn't think of any more contraband to make
It’s all so tiresome, they have a pretty good base here. It’s just devoid of content to make things fun. I got it on gamepass. It’s a 7/10. I guess I’m going to check it out in a year when they finally complete the game by add things that are plainly missing.
>A Novo Solo variant on the basic pattern of powersuit/heavy lifter that's served all over the outer colonies. The average NEP Mongoose, or Mog, has been decommissioned, retrofitted, rebuilt, scrapped, demilitarized and recommissioned so many times they have a bad reputation with recruits. Even after a complete rebuild, the cranial jack tends to retain... a certain personality, let's say. Rookie Mog drivers would call it a ghost, but that's being dramatic about issues with biofeedback. Tough, versatile, the Mog is the backbone of mechanized infantry, and so ubiquitous that 'mog' became a catch-all for powersuits as a whole. They may just be so much scrap underfoot of a Touro, but coordinated attacks from an entire squad is no joke.
mechs and their banning is really bizarre, it would be like banning tanks, honestly feels like they wanted "cool sci-fi thing" but didn't want to put any effort into implementing it

honestly wonder if it would be possible to port over the power armour system from fallout
>Starfield’s story is not groundbreaking either and is basically just a rehash of Skyrim, instead of collecting words of power it’s artifacts, instead of Dragonborn you’re the Starborn
It really is so incredibly lazy that Bethesda, specifically todd and emil, are so ungodly lazy and possessing such mediocre writing talent that they couldn't imagine a more unique sounding name for their stupid dragonborn knockoff and just switched a couple letters.
>"desperate TORtanic recreation n°825"
That was Fallout 76 or Anthem or Marvel's Avengers. Christ, there are so many big titles that have become massive flops in the past 12 years.
>what went wrong?
same as always, Todd lied about the games content/features and bethesda produced their usual brand of slop. at this point its on any and all gays who sadly convinced themselves starfield wasn't going to be a mediocre fallout 4 in space / poor mans version of no mans sky. thankfully most didn't listen as the game has totally bombed in less than 2 weeks.
It's not even a "good" Bethesda game, in Fallout/Skyrim you could just go from one place to another and explore while here it's just drop down menu galore.
Also, making it exclusive to Xbox and then not optimizing it enough to run at 60FPS on "The most powerful console on the planet".
Also no fucking vehicles is absolutely nonsenisical, no low altitude flying, no nothing - people laugh but THIS is a literal walking simulator.
Todd made money selling us an unfinished buggy mess of a game. Massive success if you're talking about revenue. Todd lied again... https://youtu.be/5zDjSrZ9Fsc
Its another BGS game. Weak writing, weak quest design, tons of content but nothing particularly amazing >UC Sys Def vs Crimson Fleet >at no point can you just murder the other side >have to come back to daddy UC to tell them what is going on as is, you can't even lie about the missions you are doing for the Crimson Fleet >tons of "WHY ARE YOU KILLING PEOPLE YOU MONSTER??!?!" when I want to be a Crimson Fleet member fully but the game needs me to be part of the UC for some reason for 99% of the quest
>get mission to go to a space station and talk to a russian >ah, the russian on a space station cliche again > greeted by another afro-american >so far every quest guver has been afro-american >afro-american scientists everwhere >this one sounds like a russian

Retarded propaganda game.
At first I thought it was a joke, but nope, there's actually just a lot of morons and chinks in the game for some reason. They all speak Swedish or French too for some reason.
Horribly "optimized", runs worse than Star Citizen somehow.
I got this shit for free and still feel ripped off.
I hate that landing on planets or docking on ships/stations is just loading screens and cutscenes, and I hate it precisely because there are games that can handle it, while also allowing you to walk out of your ship
The games that can handle it only do that thing though, it’s not some genius critical observation to compare the primary feature of one game to one of many features in another game and discover that it’s more fleshed out in the first one
It runs like shit.
If this game ran at a consistent 60 FPS on average Steam user hardware then it would probably sit at like 92% positive reviews. But it doesn’t. It runs like shit on normie computers and only at 30 FPS on “the most powerful console” while looking mediocre at best.
If that wasn’t the case then we would be complaining about the valid yet smaller stuff: >shitty UI >one gorillion load screens >non seamless travel mechanics >bethesda writing >settlement system downgrades >what do they eat?
Which are, again, all valid, but seem inane in comparison to the performance issues.
complaining about the arbitrary nature of the ship combat upgrade system and how fucking jank knocking out ship systems to board and take them over for 3000 net caps plus risk of random "contraband" behind a shelf getting all my stolen shit confiscated by the first system I stop in does seem minor compared to the Hard crashes during map travel.
My biggest gripe is no land vehicles or mounts. Exploration is a no go until creation kit releases and there will be proper mods fixing it. Plus the game feels pretty soulless and the dialogue is boring
add that next to patel not understanding question marks don't make questions out of statements in english. Diction, spelling and grammar are a fucking shitshow in all parts of the game.
better than skyrim for sure, skyrim is a 5 but this is an 8.9 solely for it's content loop it's a shit game but because of the loop its good
garbagekino
skyrim content loop is way better, with some combat and mods for better loot and scaling, simply because you can seemlessly explore the map and the only loading screens are entering and leaving locations. and starfield has WAY too little templates for it's locations, I'd say there are maaaaaybe 20-30 different types of buildings
I was a passenger in someone's space ship for a quest during the Crimson Fleet. The ship took off into space while I was sitting in the cockpit. Now why can we not stay in first person while the take-off animation happens, have some "ship leaving the planet" visual effect occur, then spawn the ship in the planet's orbit facing away (Instead of facing toward the planet even after you take-off).
its boring, there is no purpose or meaning to engage with any feature .
Spaceship? its a mobilehome , only content for its mining asteroid, doing some radiant quest from the bar and radian counters.
Outposts? resource sink, which rewards you with more resources when you no longer need resources.
Looting locations? they are all the same because they are using proccedural generation and the only way to not realize the repetitive patterns its being drunk or high while playing
its another braindead entertainment software for morons, there is no way to experience failure or challenge in starfield.
I've played the free version for 60 hours now. Basically every NPC is boring or really generic. The writing is so safe and generic every questline feels like you've done it already in some other game / heard the same story before. I've found like a total of three (3) interesting quests in 60 hours. Most fun I've had has been building the ship with mods and min-maxing my weapon with all workshop and research upgrades. Every tiny mission feels like a chore and the dialogue is just random sludge I just spam through. The "cities" look very ugly and they're pretty small. The planets feel like a waste of time unless you have a quest to do something on them. Random space station/ship encounters have been decent. Base-building is really limited and annoying. Main quest might be the worst one in any game I've ever played before, literally written by a 12 year old who just found out what time traveling is. I have used multiple mods and console commands to reduce the time padding of perk unlocking and material gathering because its just not worth it in this game. I'll probably finish the game tomorrow, since I have done all big side quests and faction quests already and skimmed through every planet. I give it a solid 5.7/10, worse than Fallout 4 for me. Its a good game if you're autistic and don't know better
Space Sheriff questline and some of the random ones in the freestar collective are palatable. Everything about the main quest and UCmorons as a faction is pure AIDs. The do anything radiant open ended playloop does feel like it's a game up until you run into a duplicated dungeon or Sarah opens her blown out cunt mouth to whine about how she's only a decorated officer who got to fail upward her whole life.
UN peacekeeping force town rapist on the "infiltrate's the crimson fleet" questline and the Colony ship quests are bottom of the barrel low points and you can just tell they thought these would be what rivaled new vegas.

The AI is bad.
Everything else could be forgiven if the AI was good enough to make combat not be retarded but there you go.
If you want to actually get into everything that was wrong/done poorly we could talk all day. obviously the travel mechanics are fucked up and not what they original intended. Some of the perks could have been baseline but its not a huge deal. Stats scale way too hard but thats just the kind of game it is, most open world RPG or psuedo open world RPG games have stat systems that scale too hard in order to give the illusion of player progression.
Most complaints i see are actually stupid and some even wrong, however even for the valid ones they could have all been forgiven if the AI was good enough to make combat more interesting. as it is its just terrible.
Bethesda hasnt had a good main quest since 2002, and even then 1/2 of the main quest is just quests that facilitate the player exploring the world. At this its a staple of their company that their main quests are stupid, if you expected anything else then you just havent played Beth games enough
nothing the game is good u probably didn't play long enough
OP didn't give his opinion. Slow down.
It's a bethesda game. Any sane person knew it would suck
Exploration and AI is shit, other parts range from mediocre to good. Way overhyped by Todd and bethesdrones like always. Solid 6/10 game.

7/10 game at best
You set your target on the map and your ship moves there, if you want to jump to another system activate your warp drive. What more do you need?
7/10 would imply it's as good as fallout 4 or skyrim so no it's like a 5
It's better
It's the same fucking outpost. What were they thinking? Star Citizen at least has some randomness in its assets placement.

Engine can't handle this, plain and simple, everything feels hamfisted, they shouldn't have done this.
It runs like shit.
If this game ran at a consistent 60 FPS on average Steam user hardware then it would probably sit at like 92% positive reviews. But it doesn’t. It runs like shit on normie computers and only at 30 FPS on “the most powerful console” while looking mediocre at best.
If that wasn’t the case then we would be complaining about the valid yet smaller stuff:
>shitty UI
>one gorillion load screens
>non seamless travel mechanics
>bethesda writing
>settlement system downgrades
>what do they eat?
Help an ESL out. Please. This confuses me, should it be "unarmored targets" instead?
Loooool. Nah man that's the "Citizen Killer 9000". It hurts innocent women and children more than armed opponents.
Oh wow, yet another issue with Starfield.
Yes clearly they meant "unarmored".
add that next to patel not understanding question marks don't make questions out of statements in english.
Elite dangerous and No Man's Sky did space travel right.
It should've been stupid fucking easy to implement in Starfield. But nope they fucked up.
100% accurate review
Bethesda correctly knew they could barely slap together the laziest possible reskin of FO4-in-Space* and would get away because gamers are cretins.
*Space not included.
Did Starfield just copypaste the Fallout 4 legendary system into this game? If true, that is reason alone for me to never touch this.
>buys bethesda game
>expects a good main quest
Bethesda hasnt had a good main quest since 2002, and even then 1/2 of the main quest is just quests that facilitate the player exploring the world. At this its a staple of their company that their main quests are stupid, if you expected anything else then you just havent played Beth games enough
