Objectively, I had way more fun playing KOTOR I than playing KOTOR II. KOTOR II honestly gave me a hard time with all the bugs, crashes and fixes I had to hunt down during my playthrough. However, I haven't tough about KOTOR I in a long time whilst KOTOR II characters and plot pops up in my mind from time to time. I never finished Kotor II because my run bugged out towards the end and made progression impossible, yet I still keep thinking about it.

Funny how that works.

I enjoyed the characters and story of kotor 1 more but having all the drops be the same was lame so kotor 2's randomized loot was a nice addition

The only of those that feels really bad to me is the last one. This guy is in charge of a literal Sith academy, and his reaction to his students betraying him is behaving like a stereotypical principal... and that's the joke. It kinda "lowers" the dramatic tension of the moment.

Currently playing kotor 2 after finishing 1.
Only played them when they came out, and with the comunity patches and the restoration project content i can confidently say that Kotor 2 is superior in EVERY aspect to 1

I still think 1 has slightly better art direction, but maybe they just got lucky with planets. I still think about 1's Tatooine from time to time.

KotOR 1 is a better game with a better story. It actually feels like it belongs in the Star Wars universe. KotOR 2 has some interesting ideas and cool characters, but it doesn't feel like a Star Wars game, or that it understands the morality and message of Star Wars. This is in addition to the fact that it was just more rushed and lesss tested than the first one. Because of these two things, KotOR 1 is just miles ahead if you ask me.

      >the morality and message of Star Wars
Kreia would be proud of Luke for telling Kenobi and Yoda to frick off with their closed minded, dogmatic horseshit, allowing himself to feel and accept his emotions and still come out to do what he felt was the right thing to do in defiance of both the Jedi and the Sith.

The "muh grey morality" cringe of KotOR 2 reeks of atheism, and it doesnt understand even something as basic as Star Wars. Lucas was always very clear. Balance means no sith abusing the force. The jedi are good. The sith are evil. In this comparison, Star Wars has always been black and white, KotOR 2 tries to reject that because the writer was a fedora tipper.

I'm sorry did you have any points of your own to make or are you just going to regurgitate the same copypasta tier responses you got from reading every other braindead critcism of 2?

Lucas was an idiot and if he'd had his way you'd be sitting here defending the Force being the result of tiny little aliens called the Whills, so I'm not going to accept "but Lucas said!" as an argument on anything.

      >or that it understands the morality and message of Star Wars
The main message of KOTOR2 is how the Dark Side can corrupt your very essense to the core and its capability of turning you into a rapid animal, and also how complacency, inflexibility and apathy can be just as harmful in the long run. If anything, KOTOR2 does a perfect job at affirming Lucas' original vision for the Star Wars morality.

One thing that annoys me about II is that its visually inferior to the first game in some ways. Some effects have gone missing, like the metallic shine on droids, and I think lighting is generally worse. Envronments can be shockingly basic in geometry, and you have places like of Dxun that recall the sludgy blandness of N64 games. KOTOR I can be boring at times but the locations usually have atmosphere and one or two nice-looking things.

Did you install the restored content mod for KOTOR II? It also fixes many bugs.

I don't understand why the fanbase of these games is so moronic. Is this normal with Star Wars games in general? I'm asking this as someone who likes the games.

It also reminds me. There was a thread about worst designed bosses in games. Someone mentioned Bellak Starkiller (or something similar) from KOTOR 1, because "you can't beat him at level 2" and staying at level 2 "was the correct way to play it" because it gave you more Jedi levels, even if Starkiller is an optional fight. I just want to mention that I recently played it and it is fairly easy to beat him even at level 2 on normal difficulty, if you know what you are doing, so the whole argument is moronic from the start. I doubt that individual will read it, but I wanted to say it at least once.

KotOR1 combat is so dumb, movement is basically a free action so you will never get hit by enemy grenades if you pay any attention.

And if you are getting hit you can always spam shields.

KOTOR1 is a pure unadulterated Star Wars experience ー fun, goofy and mostly lighthearted, but most importantly, it's a complete game.
KOTOR2, on the other hand, is an unfinished mess of a game, and even without taking that into account it's still basically just more of the same shit so it makes the game slightly less special.

I've been thinking about KotOR1 in a store today and primarily about how profoundly uncool Malak is. Malak is lame. His visual design is great, one of the best in EU, I love it, but he's basically a loser. He doesn't have some grandiose plan or philosophy behind him, he just tagged along with Revan, got corrupted, tried to beat Revan, got his jaw lopped off, and then betrayed Revan.

He only exists to make you feel better about yourself. His final speech before he dies is "You're so cool, Revan... I should've never challenged you."

On one hand, that's kinda original, villain being a pathetic loser. On other hand, it's not very "epic".

I wonder if it's a coincidence that "Malak" sounds a lot like "malakas".

You should read the Kotor comic and see why he was so pathetic

Actually I probably should. I don't think it will impact my opinion of him as a villain (I shouldn't be needing to read a comic before playing a game), but that's interesting.

What's the name of the comic, if you don't mind spoonfeeding?

It's not actually about Revan or Malak, mind you, it's an unrelated story about a Jedi Padawan from Taris several years before the games happen. But they both show up on occasion, Malak has a minor importance to the plot while Revan's apperances are basically cameos. And since Malak was more or less a blank slate in 1 and got no love at all in 2 the comic writers were apparently free to do as they wanted with him.

          https://readcomiconline.li/Comic/Star-Wars-Knights-Of-The-Old-Republic
Start with Issue 0, since it's the setup to the whole thing and the first appearance of Malak, even if he's not named yet and he has hair. e-girl Mission also makes an appearance.

      >gets cucked by a hot elf girl
      >gets fricked up by Demagol
      >tags along with Revan as his "apprentice" because he was weaker and stupider by default
      >tries to kill Revan in honest combat but gets schooled so hard he loses a jaw
      >betrays Revan like a pussy from behind the scenes and still somehow fails
      >almost comically inept at waging war resorting to simple zerg rush tactics as opposed to Revan's well thought out strategies
      >dies like a b***h to redeemed Revan
Of the 3 Malak definitely fricked up the most

i don't know about crashes (skill issue?) but the game is unfinished anyway so even if you played to completion you wouldn't have finished it in a real sense anyway. so don't sweat it

    >It actually feels like it belongs in the Star Wars universe
It's just a pastiche of various famous scenes and characters from the movies. It feels like it belongs in the star wars universe in the same way that the force awakens does. It's just telling you the same story again.
