Objectively why is Ubisoft map design wrong?

Objectively why is Ubisoft map design wrong? At least with this system you have everything you could pick and want at your leisure you're not missing out on anything.

because it makes the open world trivial you just mark the nearest point of interest on the map go there do the copypasted thing you have to do scratch this one off the list and set the next marker and blindly follow the direction plotted out for you again and again. It even says before hand what shit you find there before you get there.
I fricking hate games that set a to do list and youre just scratching them off.

Yeah but at least with the list you have security knowing that you're not going to miss out on anything. You can get rid of some of the trivial things like the stupid feathers or the annoying bloat icons. I might say mission or feather or secret but you're not going to know what it is until you get there still I don't think that there's anything wrong with that

I guess you're just a person that just likes to be given a list of chores to do rather than person that wants to explore the world and be rewarded for it.

Finding a chest with 5, arrows isn't rewarding, moron. Unless you're as mentally handicapped as you are.

BoTW kinda sucks but the reward is not the simple dopamine hit you get from a lootbox you get at the end you homosexual, it's the exploration and choices you made and the journey you traveled to get there by yourself. not just blindly following some stupid line you have to follow on the minimap.

I have no problem with both methods of exploration. I liked Elden Ring and Dark Souls but I'm not going to pretend there's no advantage to Ubisoft map design. If you're someone who wants to make sure that everything you can do has been done.

It was good at the time, and actually it was so wildly successful that every game in existence is copying it. That's the problem.

I think the problem is they overclutter their shit with pointless bull crap. I think it should be the general kind of things and for any collectibles you either keep them on enemies or keep them in a congealed area where the player knows that they can get them

When did assassins creed start using map.io in its games?

I've played a frick ton of video games both with the Ubisoft and non Ubisoft map style and all that changes nothing to the fact that you have nothing to contribute

I wish there was an expensive map that would show you where the shit is

because the map is filled with 500 things, all of which you do fricking nothing at.

Between those 500 markers there is 5 activities repeated 100 times, and each of those 5 activities is put square peg in square hole level or moron proof.

Its like claiming white rice is the most succulent delicacy every made because there is like 5000 grains of rice in a bowl.

If your argument is that the Ubisoft Maps contain an overabundance of fluffy bullshit then I would agree with you. But if I remember correctly you can adjust the maps for yourself so even then I have a hard time acting like it's the worst thing in the world

As far as the content of what you actually do I do agree can be more thought out and well valued. Side missions and quest should be things to enhance or immerse not irreverent tedium.

Ubisoft is a master at compromising gameplay in the name of "accessibility" (i.e. whatever the marketing department thinks is important for the game to sell more).
Comparing Horizon to Zelda BOTW is painful precisely because of this. Both games are very easy and accessible, but BOTW manages to do this by giving freedom to the player, while Horizon throws a trillion pieces of information in the player's face. Playing Ubisoft games is like playing with that annoying friend who keeps trying to tell you where every secret in the game is.

Yeah but I don't really see a problem with knowing where every secret of the game is because at least then it's guaranteed you'll get there and I imagine a lot of people inevitably look up breath of the wild guides to see where every little nook and cranny is

        >I imagine a lot of people inevitably look up breath of the wild guides to see where every little nook and cranny is
Most people don't atleast not on their first playthrough. People play those type of games to explore and wonder, taking that out you just get a chore list like ubishit games.

Because it's all just garbage collectables. None of it has any actual time or energy devoted to making it good or unique, it's just skinnerbox'ing your time in the laziest and easiest way for them. Nothing ubisoft do is ever good game design or enjoyable, it's always the maximum israelite angle to cost them as little as possible
