Realistically will we ever see this game's legacy and critical acclaimed topped in our lifetime? Like it's been the default #1 for 24 years, meaning ONLY another Zelda game can knock it off it's pedastal

I always mourn my cancer riddled grandma whenever someone plays this
one of the few memories i have of my grandma is her coming in watching me play in the deku tree and laughing at link scooting around while climbing, and telling me it looked cute.
another memory is her scoffing and telling me the boobs on the girl on TV were fake. Whcih seemd out of character because she was usually very poised.
probably never because nintendo is washed up
but also gamers get worse taste with the years
it's why games that are pretty much perfected get remakes despite not needing them
LOL
It's not even the best Zelda game
It's not even the best 3D zelda
It's not even the best Zelda on the n64
>example A of bad taste and being retarded
Ocarina of Time:
>Terrible pacing
>empty world
>Few fun quests, the two biggest quests in the game are boring and give a bad reward
>Bad traversal even with Epona thanks to the geography
>Rupees are useless
>Refilling items is a tedious process
>Items become "useless" too quickly
>Dungeons are quite dull, and the puzzles aren't really puzzles
>Enemy and boss attack patterns are too easy to figure out
>Items are not dynamic
>Useless upgrades just to say it's an upgrade and give the feeling of game progression (hello, hookshot range)
>Song of time is a joke
The only truly great thing about OOT is the soundtrack. I could spend more time pointing out other flaws or how Majora's Mask fixes most of this, but it's evident
They've been using ideas that were scrapped during OoT development for decades though
Most of those don't even make any sense.
Here buddy. Take the (You). Seems like you need it.
MM does mog it thoughever
See that’s my point. People claim it’s not the best and but they only use Zelda it’s own series as a reference. They’ll argue MM or ALTTP but still it’s another Zelda. This rules out basically any other series or game by default
shit taste
Majoras Mask fags are delusional edgelords. Yeah the forced mechanics and chore list don’t detract from the grand adventure at all…
I grew up with both and I consider both the same game but MM is just otherwordly.
I understand the world and aesthetic being more appealing. But it’s like a pretty girl who has crippling retardation.
I feel like it's going to get the FF7RE treatment within a few years. Zelda's way too big now after BotW/TotK, lots of younger people haven't played it but always hear it getting jerked off, and OoT3D will be 15 years old and was always just a remaster.
zelda 1 and botw/totk is real zelda
zelda oot fans are posers and fakers lalalala
I'm a hipster who pretends to love zelda 1 to seem more certifiable when I dictate that nuzelda is more faithful to the original vision
god I just fucking hate OOT so much bros, I started hating it after 2017 when those oldfans suddenly didn't like this new direction. It was easy shitting on snoytrannies but now I must hate oldzelda if that means defending nuzelda to my death.
I feel like OoT and MM are so close you can argue either way for which is best but you are just being silly if you dont concede OoT has the best story in a 3d zelda.
MM is just a expansion to OOT so there's no fundamental argument of it being better. Just like Soulcalibur ii vs 1
MM has worse dungeons and I don't like the timer gimmick. OoT is basically LttP in 3D which I like more.
Nah they will never capture the dark gritty feeling of OoT/MM cause Nintendo only makes super safe toddler games now.
You know when Zelda had red blood and torture devices?
>Remove Koizumi to work in the mario sweatshop
>Try to make the mature adult-oriented Zelda
>Fail completely
I mean shit, I liked TP but it feels diluted.
graphics got too good to make environments like this on a modern zelda game.
Pathologic literally has enviroments like this
thanks for the info esl-kun
The first few visits to the depths in TOTK made me feel more dread than anything in OoT
But the reason we'll never have anything like that anymore is because game design changed, older games had those weird places because everything was much less connected and several areas either lacked purpose or were created without worrying about it making sense, modern game design is just too tight and everything makes sense, which removes a huge part of the weird feeling old games had
despite it objectively aging poorly and being outclassed by later games, willfully ignorant nostalgia zealots will never see reason or let go. there is no reason to put it on such a pedestal. "good at the time" is not good enough, especially when it has been surpassed and/or improved upon in every metric.
It already was, twice, TP and BotW.
when Nintendo goes VR around 2030~2035 I think we'll finally get something that truly captures what OoT did in 1998
I hope they figure out how to do open world content by then, because BotW and its sequel just don't cut it sorry
I'll never understand it. OOT is a great game, but the nostalgia boner people have for it is just unreal. Many other great games came out the same year such as Starcraft + Brood War, Half life, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, etc.
all those games are great but notice how they aren't legend of Zelda games. so how can scbw be the best Zelda game?
Before OOT came out there was hardly any game journalism, it didn't start until the 4th generation with the N64 and PS1. With nobody covering the Sega Saturn either, you were basically only left with a landscape of Sony vs Nintendo. And Super Mario 64 / Tomb Raider pre-OOT were seen as the best games of all time. OOT took the best of both of those games, added a huge hub world and the sword combat of Soul Calibur and combined it into one game.
>the sword combat of Soul Calibur
Don't insult an actually good game like SC by comparing it to a shitty one like OoT and its "combat".
tbh as a kid i was way more obsessed with oot than sc1 and i had both
>Realistically will we ever see this game's legacy and critical acclaimed topped in our lifetime?
Half Life 3
>no interest in newer zelda games
>stopped playing zelda after Twilight Princess
>only want more OoT romhacks
>only want to play OoT and MM again
>no desire to play non-64 zelda games anymore
>love randomizers
is anyone else like this other than me?
you arent a zelda fan. you're just an autistic zealot.
All OoTfags are like this. You aren't Zelda fans, just OoT fans.
Ocarina of Time has already been surpassed.
You already have.
you know what? im gonna say it. theres only like 20 people that play it, and their threads are insufferable, but im gonna say it. i mean this with all seriousness, unironically, even onirism is a better game. oot has aged like shit.
The significance of a game is much less if you didn’t catch it when it was relevant. There was no 64 in my country. I really love platform adventure games. The replacement for me was Harry Potter 1-2 on ps1 and The Hobbit on PC. Later I found out that these were ocarina clones, albeit more linear. I thought about emulating when I was 16, but I never got around to it. At 26 I completed the 3DS version with retexture. And it is too easy, solving riddles is not fun, like in BotW. Completed the fire and water temples in one attempt. The gameplay is not very varied. I thought that I should have played at 16 after all. BUT. I started playing Maximo, these are simply divine games, literally 11 out of 10. Ocarina, of course, is significant, but as a representative of the adventure platformer genre it is weak. The cards ruined the game not only in terms of graphics, but also gameplay.
>3ds sloppa
Its literally same, but without ugly faces.
yeah no that sloppa will never capture the SOVL of pic related
Agree, ending is awesome. I would even give it a point, but overall the game did not live up to the hype and cult for me.
compare that screenshot to mine. Explain to me how that looks remotely the same. Why is it so fucking bright? what the FUCK
In my opinion, this is not significant, it’s like complaining about the lighting of the jungle background in the Crash remake.
nah mate. the animations are worse. the lighting is abysmal. the game looks like shit because the game was literally designed to look low res with minimal polygons. It just works
Dude, crt shaders are crap. The ladders on Zelda's hand are shit. If you are such a retro lover, you would buy an old video card with the required output for CRT.
Zelda in this game is so sexy, and not a doll carved out of wood.
I still own my original OOT and MM from 23-25 years ago. The issue is finding a CRT tv that is good for less than $500 these days
You might be a 3ds fag but at least you enjoy one of the best Zelda incarnations. Also, someone is porting all the 3ds models to the n64 OOT so we should have the best of both worlds soon.
I lived through the entire age of Zelda. Is this the 3DS up-rez'd? Only played through the 3DS remake once. Practically atrocious. OG for life.
>up-rezd
no. all models are done. the animations too (which are literally shit) and the fps is capped at 30 which makes everything appear to be slow mo and shit compared to the original. The original is superior in every way
Looks like fan work kek
looking at his screenshot I think he's using some sort of AI upscale 4k mod. Which looks like shit kinda
>3DS up-rez'd
Yeah, Magnifico's
And in general, the post was not about 3ds vs n64. About Ocarina as an adventure game.
As an actual answer anon, I agree that OoT and Mario 64 were groundbreaking for their respective genres, but in terms of the past 10 years of gaming, you can see Dark Souls becoming just as influential. But even Dark Souls is basically Zelda for adults
Dark Souls has 0 innovation. It is literally an OOT copycat in every way
I think its more Monster Hunter.
King's Field came out before both MH and 3D Zelda.
No because there's nothing left to innovate to the same degree as OoT did, BOTW was a good example of a game doing really well but still at the end it was just doing a good job at something that already exists, OoT was the blueprint for 3D action games and nothing will ever come even close
