Cutscene density only matters if players are just beelining it to the end game, which most don't do.

I highly doubt most Zelda fans explore in these games. They're likely on their dozenth playthrough and beeline through the content.

Maybe on a 12th playthrough, but on a 1st or 2nd? I doubt it. There's usually extra stuff to find.

When OOT first came out and I was 8 I used to just run around and explore areas with nothing in them and dungeons I had already beat just because I thought they were cool and wanted to see them again. I would also just meet the townsfolk and come up with stories for them and link in my head and run around killing respawning enemies imagining my own storylines. I probably spent 50 hours on my first play-through, not because I was stuck but because I was satisfied just larping around and exploring shit that had no actual "game impact". I didn't treat the game like a list of objectives and game mechanics I treated it like a story I lived. And it was great.

I dare say most of us did this back in those days.

When I was younger I thought Ocarina of Time was this grand adventure. I would roam around exploring every nook and cranny, experimenting with my items. Now that I'm old, I found Tears of the Kingdom is the game I remember Ocarina of Time being. When I replayed OoT, it felt small, it felt so known, there was no mystery, there was nothing to discover. Hyrule field used to feel so huge and open, and now it's just a walled off room that connects the other locations together. TotK actually IS the grand adventure, filled with mysteries to discover, and all the experimentation my heart desires. I've seen most Ganker posters stuck in the past, positing old games as the end all be all, and sadly they cannot possibly ascertain the majesty of Tears of the Kingdom. I feel immense pity for their behalf.

I will now offer a briefer on the art of kinography. Link is perched on top of the three day timer, this demonstrates his mastery over the looming threat of time. He is transformed into the fearsome god, his double helix blade beckoning the moon, daring it continue its course plunging into the blade, impaled, and ceremoniously destroyed. Link shares the same angle and pose as the moon, as if to say it both understands, and that he is beyond reproach and intimidation. Link has gone from the hero of time, to the master of time and space, he is the bastion by which this doomed world of termina will be delivered unto salvation.

in OoT you kind of have to explore a bit, its not like TP where everything is on rails and very linear. to get into the forest temple you need to go to the towns graveyard, etc. I imagine many people got to the forest temple without going to the graveyard then had to ask themselves what they needed to do.

theres no way it has 3:30 hours of cutscenes either

This, OoT is only like 8 hours if you are a speedrun troon. This is the accurate time, OP is being a disingenuous little homosexual by using a video that includes gameplay and talking to every npc which is not a cutscene as the player is actively choosing to talk to them

I guess if you don't do any side quests or bother hunting any gold skulltulas, sure, 5-6 hours might be right. But I just finished a playthrough last night where I got everything, but only 65 gold skulltulas, and it was like 11 hours.

Cause there's stuff to do outside of dungeons? Especially if you do the mask side quest that can add a lot to your initial playtime.

The mask quest is pretty pointless, but there's still time to be spent planting seeds so you can get certain heart pieces and skulltulas as an adult. Plus there's fishing, shooting gallery, treasure chest mini game, etc for upgrades.

I don't know if you realise this OP but a player on the first time isn't going to know all the puzzles. They'll explore and find shit, they'll do sidequests or look for heartpieces. These games aren't meant for super autist efficiency.

Fricking Moron. But yeah sure, in the interest of fairness, Twilight Princess cutscenes are probably shorter than that.
TP problem is that it is so linear that it may as well be a cutscene, the intro is awful and the cutscene frequency is much higher when it's just as shallow as OOT, if not more.

You have insepid taste, your gauge for how good Zelda is
                -did it come out first
-how quickly do I get into dungeon #1

imagine what good taste actually is (then again I suspect you're legitmately brainrotted) and you could examine the design of dungeons properly, and actually have played a game a number of times to where you don't suffer amnesia of it, and require a new fresh experience.

The horse tutorial has no reason to be in the very beginning, if it was going to lock you out of it later. That's like forcing a random fishing mini game in Kokiri Village and then fricking off with it until Lake Hylia. The worst part is it locks you out when you need it the most, by then you've already learned how to teleport via wolf Link, and there's much less need for it because the world is so empty. Which is a shame.

The difference is that Ocarina of Time's gameplay was somewhat decent for its release, whereas Twilight Princess was dogshit. The Legend of Zelda has been mechanically and technically irrelevant in the 21st century, and to a large degree it's even become creatively destitute, to the point where absolutely frick all in the two latest "critically acclaimed" iterations makes any sense. It's like they're just throwing darts at sticky notes and cobbling together whatever's chosen, and the fanbase eats it despite there being minimal to no effort behind it.

        It's quite simple
        >long long ago
        >hylians at large find out about the triforce and the sacred realm
        >a civil war breaks out between various factions all of which want to claim the triforce for themselves
        >a faction of mages, simply referred to as the 'dark interlopers' wins the war
        >the dark interlopers break into the sacred realm by creating a dark magical artifact called the 'fused shadows' and using that to brute force their way in
        >the light spirits see this as an affront to the goddesses and punish the dark interlopers by breaking the fused shadows into 3 pieces (the ones you find in the first three dungeons) and banishing the dark interlopers into the twilight realm

        >fast forward a few years, OoT happens, link puts the master sword back and leaves to search for Navi and do MM
        >Because link isn't there to vanquish ganondorf, the previous generation of sages and the hylians rally an army, drive the gerudo back into the desert and defeat them completely
        >the sages banish ganondorf into the twilight realm. Even though in this timeline, he never got his hands on the triforce he somehow still gets the triforce and almost breaks out

        >fast forward, not long before game starts
        >the dark interlopers have adapted to the twilight realm by mutating/evolving into a dark-skinned race called the 'Twili'
        >Zant rules as regent of the Twili because the royal family doesn't have any heirs old enough for the throne
        >Midna is about to come of age, meaning Zanto will have to resign and let her rule
        >Zanto is desperate, he doesn't want to lose his power.
        >Suddenly a voice speaks to him and offers him the power to prevent Midna's reign
        >It's ganondorf, he grants Zanto the power of the triforce
        >Zanto uses this power to turn Midna into an imp, twist the Twili into shadow beasts, travel to the light world, warp it into a second twilight realm and then transform hylians into more shadow beasts

        >Game starts here

He thought she wouldn't be a threat once she's an imp.
            >He believes in his mind, that he is the rightful ruler of the twili, meaning Midna shouldn't be able to wield the power of twilight, ergo she can't do magic stuff
            >The Twili have been turned into monsters that serve him, so she can't rally them to overthrow him
            >The Hylians have no idea about the twilight mirror or the twili and they're all about to turn into ghosts or shadow beasts anyway, so she can't rally those either
The only reason she's able to kill him when the actual confrontation happens, is because (you) collected and reassembled the fused shadows for her. Zanto had no way of knowing that someone like link existed. And he DOES try to kill her after he realizes that someone like link exists.

I am a fan of Twilight Princess but lets be fricking real that agme was on rails for most of the game thanks to the wolf link segments and much of the tools for exploration like the hookshot were nuetered design wise, the clawshot realistically only hooked onto special nodes designed to be hooked onto for example.

And at no point in the game did they drop you into the world and ask you to figure out where to go next with a handful of hints, you just followed a straight line from A to B occasionally stopping either to backtrack for a specific item or do a wolf link segment.

In OOT after you beat the first dungeon you get dumped into hyrule field and can go to hyrule castle, lon lon ranch, kakoriko village, zora's river, lake hylia, gerudo valley, if Navi didn't constantly remind you where you should be going It could be a while before you figured out that you needed to go to hyrule castle and do the miniquest there with melons egg and sneaking into the castle

literally happens in every area of the game, you either misremember the game, or you're going out of your way to misrepresent it. sure you're on rails, but at NO POINT IN THE ENTIRE GAME does the sidekick character reveal solutions to anything. you're simply directed the next locations to go, and then you're free to figure it all out, Every Single Time.

When was that allude to at all? The only relationship they had is Ganondorf giving Zant power to act as a puppet, then Zant realizing too late that it was a prank bro and he took the power back, which is when Midna sends Zant to the Shadow Realm. Zant had no power, essentially. That's why his boss fight is just a clip show of all the equipment/abilities you've collected throughout the game. He can cast environmental illusions and purple balls. That's it. He's not a God. He can't use the Twili magic. He's just some random butler who thought the Twilight Realm was kinda gay and wanted out, so he sold his soul to the devil and promptly got his shit kicked in. So a dead guy killed another dead guy after a bunch of alive guys failed to turn dead guy #2 (formerly alive) into a dead guy and banished his spirit or something to the shadow realm whereupon he injected his soul into alive guy (who becomes dead guy #1) and then later gets his body back somehow I don't remember that part but his spirit is still in other guy, who then becomes dead guy, but I guess he's alive in the spirit realm along with other guy's spirit which is also in that guy's body who then dies but is still alive for like fifteen seconds so then dead guy's spirit along with other guy's spirit connects to almost dead guy's body and soul to snap his neck for no reason because he's about to die anyway, thus accomplishing nothing of any notable circumstance, and now everybody is just in the spirit realm I guess until they're reincarnated, but not dead guy #1, because he's exclusive to this story for no particular reason other than the writers and marketing team baiting the audience into thinking this was an original game and not an incoherent, recycled shitshow.
                Did I get that right?

                Anonymous

Fine, I'll rephrase it using the lore accurate terminology
                >So the ambiguous spirit of Zant, False King of the Twili, killed Ganondorf on his deathbed after the Sages (somehow) failed to execute Ganondorf properly, deciding instead to banish his spirit to the Twilight Realm, ironically reaffirming Zant's feeling that his realm is the Light Realm's dumping ground, whereupon he (Ganondorf) tempts Zant with power eternal for some reason, again I don't remember the how or why Ganondorf even wanted Zant. So then Ganondorf reveals himself, but his spirit is still in Zant even after the latter is killed and sent to the spirit realm, where you appear to retain your body and don't seem to have any noticeable separation from the other ambiguous realms, so there's no discernible difference between life and death, making the latter seem like a pointless endeavor. Anyway, so Zant waits for Ganondorf to be defeated to then snap his neck for some reason, somehow. And then a hot milf shows up and the credits roll.
I don't know, it still sounds moronic.

                It goes something like this.
                >oot link snitches on ganondorf, gets him arrested
                >vague plot happens between oot/mm and tp
                >sages (but not the oot sages) stab ganondorf
                >the plot demands that ganondorf be the real villain, so the triforce of power finally reaches him at that moment
Side note: the "divine prank" isn't real, it's just an excuse for bad writing...maybe.
                >with the triforce of power, ganondorf delivers an instant death haymaker to the water sage
                >vague implication that he was going to turn into ganon, so he gets thrown in the portal because frick the twili lmao
                >fast forward while ganon literally feeds on the hate within the twili's hearts to reactivate himself
                >with the triforce of power, ganondorf's evil power is supercharged
                >at the exact same time, zant is wondering why he's not allowed to be king while refusing to take his meds and beating his head into the pavement
                >ganondorf, recognizing a sucker when he sees one, claims to be a god and gets zant to be his servant by offering him some dark power
                >zant proceeds to imp-ify midna and frick up the twilight realm
                >fast forward to the last third of the game
                >zant gets his shit pushed in by link
                >zant claims ganon will just infinitely resurrect him because he's been a good servant
                >ganondorf tells link he'll do no such thing because zant is a little b***h
                >zant's spirit is still attached to ganondorf, he presumably hears this
                >ganondorf gets skewered
                >triforce of power deactivates, possibly because the master sword can actually do that but i doubt anyone at nintendo actually remembered this
                Headcanon begins here.
                >zant calls ganondorf a double Black person for using him
                >cuts their connection and dies for real (neck snap)
                >ganondorf doesn't even have zant's scraps of evil power to sustain himself on now
                >ganondorf dies too
                Headcanon ends here.

tl;dr Yeah, Ganondorf is the most moronic part of Twilight Princess' story and he shouldn't have been in the game.

TP is my favorite. Played it when I was 10, and it truly felt like what other ppl are saying OoT felt like to them: a grand adventure. I remember the sudden change in tone after the intro, the surprise I felt after beating the Lakebed Temple, the urgency of Midna's Lament. It was one of those games that kept on surprising me, I just had to keep coming back. Even years later, it still hold up for me, and I love coming back to it every now and again.

I love visiting Ordon village to see how all the villagers are doing, and to let them know about things that have happened since I've been gone. I love talking to the ppl of Hyrule Castle Town. I love exploring Hyrule Field, or just taking in it's beauty.

I know it's not perfect, if I were in charge of a remake, I'd absolutely make the combat better, make the hidden skills mandatory so the devs could make combat more interesting, and I'd absolutely make the game look like what Nintendo showed in their Wii U graphics showcase <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/arHNcSMXaBk?si=4jHPj6AOI8aTDTgW&amp;start=6" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>

my idea is that I allow the player to choose which adventurer guild member to accompany out to their respective region, and they tag along inside their dungeons. this would allow for more character development, and for players to choose the order of the dungeons to tackle when.

I liked the intro with Link and Rusl, and it almost feels like the game was going to start alluding to a tone far more surreal and spooky than what we got.

I think the weakest part of TP's story is that it just becomes standard Zelda fare. Nintendo had some solid ideas with the Twili, Midna, Zant, an atmosphere that leaned more toward horror, etc -- but -- just ended up giving up halfway through. They really should have allowed the game's plot to be more experimental and its own thing.

Twilight Princess fools people into thinking it's this grand, epic, mature, Zelda game when in reality it was a paint by the numbers Zelda game that retained most of Wind Waker's flaws. People like the idea of Twilight Princess not the actual game itself. The dungeons also fool players into thinking they are more complex than they actually are. TP killed traditional 3d Zelda and Skyward Sword buried it.
