Ocarina of Time PC Port

>Managed to easily install SM64 PC port onto my PC as everything is clear and to the point on their site
>Want to try out the OoT PC port now since it's more fun to play than SM64
>You need to go directly into their discord server to even download a build
>Okay, joined the discord
>All of these builds have weird as frick names like "Rachel Charlie" or "Zhora FoxTrot" than something very clear and simple
>Download the Rachel Charlie Windows because it's the first one
>Need to download a specific debug rom of OoT
>The one on Archive.org doesn't work despite it being the one that everyone links to for the OoT PC to work
>Find out by luck that you need to get the rom off of vimm lair
>Download and get the PC port to work
>Want to use my Tribute 64 Wireless controller
>Can't use it from the get go like with SM64 PC port, you need to look through the fricking discord for any answers
Why is the OoT PC port team like this? Why do you need to jump through these hoops when SM64 PC Port team kept it so simple and quick to the point?

I'd rather play the shitty GCN emulated version on a 4K TV in composite before resorting to using D*scord for even one second.

Good think I just fixed this issue, now you can face a version of them that can hit you while crouching and up close, and will destroy you if you aren't actively dodging their attacks.

instead of doing all that shit, just search piratebay for a precompiled and working version of the game. get someone else to do the legwork for you. I mean, if you're gonna b***h that much about it. it's not that hard to do. figuring out how to play FFXI on private servers was more difficult, and even that was a straightforward process. really, all it boils down to is:
    >get this specific rom with this specific hash
    >use it with this specific version to compile a build, it's as easy as loading the batch file and letting it do its thing
    >the generated .exe is what you use to enjoy the game
    >btw we're coming out with newer versions so maybe keep an eye on that so here's our discord to keep up to date with that
you don't even have to join the homosexual discord, you can find the rom floating around with just a little bit of investigative work.

but yeah it'd be nice if they just had a github with a precompiled package of each release. they likely do it this way to throw off nintendo's hounds. I mean look at that dude who worked for 9 years on AM2R he got buttblasted by nintendo and they're probably salivating at the ship of harkinian devs.

a few years ago, nintendo decided to go to war with romsites, so most romsites won't have nintendo shit anymore, you have to resort to public torrent packages/private trackers to get what you want.

I dunno. The pc decomp was supposed to bring in an explosion of mods and new content and then it just quietly released and seems to have been forgotten about, floundering and flopping on some moronic discord nobody bothers with. Where's my fricking dating sim mod goddammit.

I'll have to explain the situation then. Most modders right now want to make romhacks with fully custom areas/dungeon where they do their own thing largely independent of the actual base game, but utilize it's mechanics and assets.

Right now such a thing is not possible with the PC Port, so that general group of modders doesn't bother with it, but it is possible to modify the source to freely alter the mechanics, the behavior of any actor (meaning, enemies npcs etc.) and also to add custom save data. So some things are easier to mod using it, while other things are currently much more difficult compared to creating a ROM hack.

This means that modded enemies, new combat mechanics, custom quests, items and equipment with completely different functionality, challenge modes etc. are all viable and being worked on, but custom areas, NPC models and the like are much more difficult to import.

How hard is it to actually mod this? Like if I wanted to recreate that little event with ruto there, what would I have to do?

          Anonymous

You would have to modify her actor's source file, which contains all her behavior states.

Getting her to swim in and out of the water and transition to and from land was actually one of the trickier things I've done for the mod, it actually wouldn't typically be difficult to get an NPC who can already move freely to just move around in a different way, but since Ruto's animation states where she swims/walks were only used in cutscenes, they were really weird to work with and I had to figure out ways to get them to transition nicely while she moves around and interacts with you and the environment, so I had to put in extra effort there.

In general, getting actors to do variations of things that are similar to what they or other similar actors can already do is fairly easy, so adding new dialogue and quest states and reusing existing animations etc. means I can knock out a new set of basic interactions in a few hours. But doing something really novel is naturally harder and can takes days to get right if you're doing something more ambitious.

OoT modding is actually seeing a surge of mods being made now. But none of them are being made for the PC port.

so it's modders being moronic as usual

      1. OoT is a far more complex game than Mario 64.
      2. The decomp was made for the sole purpose of understanding the games internal workings for speedrunning. Not to make a some free PC Port of the game that can be modded.
      3. The codebase is shit and most code still needs a lot of documentation.

what sort of unloved child still hasn't played the original zelda on the 64 to need to play it on a scuffed pc port?
