Temenos is the protagonist.
Not if I pick Agnea
i think you mean cat and owl
>beat Hikari's story
>proceed to mug everybody in Ku right in front of him
lock me up
Also does anyone know where I can find Rai Mei at night? I just want to talk
>inquire
>static
>fully expect a meta jump scare
Is it worth playing through the first one?
Yes.
It is slightly worse in terms of combat but instead of 4 great and 4 shit stories it has 2 great and 6 good stories.
Does OT2 have the same issue where the story goes to hell when the party comes together? Does it have actual party interactions now?
The second game has much better stories in average than the first one though
>*hikari, agnea and partitio block you're path*
those stories are all good though
>Partitio's story
>not great
It's one of the best one, the fuck is wrong with you ?
Agnea's is second best and Partitio's is great. Are you retarded?
Literally my favorites man wth are you talking about
Hikari's story is literally an oldschool samurai anime played completely straight, and it's great.
His is the worst story in the game, every chapter except his prologue and ending are filler, and the Rai Mei chapter is so fucking retarded
>the entire point of his journey is to gain allies and build up his strength
>this is exactly what he does
>anon considers it "a filler"
>hated the fucking arena arc too
I mained alfyn and his story was trash, tressa’s made no sense, therion’s was goofy, haanit boring, others all meh besides cyrus which was good
The big problem with OT1 is that all the stories needed to finish within 4 chapters, and the first chapters were throwaway because they couldn't count on you actually doing them instead of just picking up the recruit and immediately moving on. So a lot of these stories never got any room to breathe.
Tressa's and Alfyn's really suffered from having to be wrapped up so quickly.
Tressa:
> sell item
> get dairy
> dairy is stolen. get it back
Fin.
What?
I still have no idea who the hot lady was who stole tressa’s diary in the last chapter and was her final boss. Tressa’s stuff with the captain dude was good rest was random crap, thankfully there was an epilogue quest for the captain
They cut her tattoo for some reason but Esmeralda was going to be part of Simeon's secret organization along with Matthias.
Actually, Mattias and Simeon founded the group together but Mattias left to go do other stuff
Partitio's story was a big improvement over Tressa's.
I agree with this, even though I think Tressa's a better character than Partitio
This is especially egregious if Therion is in the party because he even offers to steal it for her but she turns him down.
Which ones are the good ones in OT1?
>and 6 good stories.
Oh come on, there were some shit ones in the original.
My favorite part of Primrose's story is when it's revealed that Simeon killed her father because ruining people's lives gives him an erection.
Real great character motivation
Yes because it objectively has the better OST
Primrose was so fucking hot. Fucking ethics department forcing blander designs.
Octopath 2’s designs are far better than 1’s
MY FOCUS IS UNPARALLELED
I'm currently replaying OT1 before I start OT2 and it's still great.
ive never played the game, why does the girl value money above all else?
Plot-wise, she doesn't. She has a passive ability where transitioning between areas gives her money based on the level of the area and how many steps you took in them. You could sneak in and out of high level areas to farm money earlygame with the risk of getting beaten the fuck up if you get into an encounter.
no, dunkey says it sucks. a boring grindfest with bad writing and voice acting
Who?
Dunkey doesn't like turned based RPGs, though
yet he praises persona, dragon quest, and yakuza like a dragon
I thought he hated Dragon Quest, am I remembering that wrong?
literally number 3 on his games of the year list
?t=354
Oh, nevermind. Wonder where I got that impression
Sadly that was my experience too, got hyped & bought full price on switch & was massively disappointed.
>muh youtuber hero dictates my tastes
enough with the 2-digit IQ
Today I will remind them.
first game didn't have boxing the party members?
I'm pretty sure you can bench all your party members.
You can.
It's a new feature in 2.
Whilst dunkey is a retard, what is said is mostly true. The game is a bit too grindy with most classes being completely useless and then 60 levels later they're unkillable DPS gods. The writing for each story is fine but the lack of character interactions completely misses the point of a game like this. It's why most jrps are memorable. The fact that you have all these personalities mesh and help resolve each others conflicts is awesome to see in other games, but not this. I thought the voice acting was actually pretty dang good most of the time. There were a couple bits that made it seem phoned-in, but other than that I thought it was good. Therion and Cyrus' voices in particular were grand. If they had just reduced the god damn grind by a lot and had way better characters then it would be a fine game.
The game is easy enough without grinding
>Retard who notoriously hates JRPGs hates JRPG
No way.
I hate this game. After going through the 3rd character, it follows the same exact story repeated so many times. This game needed more character interactions with each other or have other party members affect the story.
God no. And the sequel is the same just with different characters.
I'll bother going back to it for Tressa and Cyrus after finishing 2, it's virtually the same game just without character interactions, night actions, worse monster catching, and boats.
I think it's worth it just for the Galdera fight
If you like more classic style JRPGS, give it a go, i think you can still get the demo for the first game? try it for a few hours, and then decide, if you like it and buy you pick up right where you left off.
But you DO NOT need to have prior knowledge to play OT2, just you can grasp the combat.
But if you were going to i would go OT1 then OT2, some really good quality of life things that imo would make the first game unfun to go back to.
>Stories are either MAXIMUM SUFFERING, GOTTA ESCAPE PRISON TO AVENGE MY FAMILY/KILL MY HANDLERS TO FREE MYSELF or UwU I WANNA BE A POPSTAR
Doing Agnea and Throne chapters back to back is such a tonal whiplash
https://files.catbox.moe/uyw6gg.mp3
imagine playing with the dub on and missing JP VA kino
72.92% of gamers are retarded
imagine thinking this isn't the objectively correct answer
>I don't want to have to read while playing
Is it really that hard
>Is it really that hard
like 80% of people I encounter in my day-to-day life move their lips when they're reading something.
Sight reading is apparently really difficult??
Unironically low IQ people can't multitask
Time spent looking at text is not at the same time spent looking at pictures. You can't get around that math.
>retard is retarded
Yes you moron.
I'm on the fence on this. I watch anime in jap dub only but I've never played a jap dub game before because I simply didn't have anything other than the localized version (Shadow of Memories, Metal Gear Solid 1/2/3, Dead or Alive 2, Kingdom Hearts 1/2, Final Fantasy X/X-2/XII/XIII, Genshin Impact, Persona 3/4). I never even had any issues with the English voices. i've played FFX so much that I know the dialogue by heart. I honestly don't know (and getting undubs to work also seems a hassle).
oh and FFX-2 International+Final Mission has the added burden that there are no eng subs during cutscenes. really sucks if you wanted to play anything other than the normal version of the horrendous remaster.
Headcanoning dom temenos sub throne for le epic gap moe uchiha madara
for those of us who have finished the path stories, what improvements would you want to see them make for the definitely coming copium 3rd game in the series?
A more fleshed out endgame. It was nice to see the whole party interact together, but the whole plot is explained through flashbacks and excluding the one related to Tenemos, the party don't get to interact with the antagonist they're tied to in it. They probably ran out of time or money but it's a bit of a shame because it felt like it could have been a lot better.
I just want the overall campaign to be more of a challenge. Most final chapter bosses go down in three turns and the gap between them and the superboss is ridiculous.
Boss health needed to be at least doubled across the board. A lot of these fights had neat stuff going on that never get any time to actually happen because they have like 28k hp and you nuke them off the map.
Put it behind a difficulty mode toggle or something if you don't want to scare off the normies.
I want a way to retry bosses at very high levels so I can actually see their mechanics, and a difficulty slider. I probably haven't seen the mechanics of 95% of the bosses because it's so easy. I don't even overexplore the map and I force myself to not overlevel.
The only reason I even saw most boss gimmicks was because I took my time and played around a bit to let them get them off. The only two exceptions were the Conjuror boss because she was fairly tanky for when my party fought her, and Cassti's final boss because I didn't want to fuck around with the constant MaxHP drain.
Speaking of Cassti's final boss, here's an alternative battle theme for it.
>conjurer has 2x the usual boss hp for no reason whatsoever
pretty cool boss though
She was crippled by me having Arcanist Parititio and Agnea dropping the "Single target skills target all" buff so everyone basically had 9 magic reflect buffs up at all times.
I'm planning to do a solo run for everyone so I can see them
Same actually. I'm leaning towards Hikari because he seems like an obvious choice since he's the beefy heavy hitter of the gang and his Taskmaster-esque skill learning means he can hit damn near any weakness if you're prepared for it.
I might do Throne before Hikari because I'd be unable to steal/purchase from NPCs as Hikari lol, but I'll definitely do them all. There isn't other games that I'm planning to play anyway so I'll just enjoy myself more with OT2.
Honestly Osvald was the other one I was leaning towards instead of Hikari mainly because of Mug. Honestly there's no bad pick tbh.
Why'd OT2 flop?
First game was meh tier and sold entirely on graphical novelty. It didn't even have a good aesthetic or style underneath it all.
The story was bad.
The combat was alright, but not really noteworthy when you consider the whole genre. The problem is, that style of combat just isn't popular anymore.
It's not really a surprise the second isn't doing so great.
have to wait for SE's next report to have a better idea. OT2 is the only game here that launched simultaneously on Steam. it won't match the first in sales, that's to be expected, but i find it hard to believe it underperformed against TS or BD2 for example.
OT2 is currently #54 on the top 100 in Steam. https://store.steampowered.com/charts/topselling/US
I really don't think it's doing poorly.
>US
It's #24 worldwide, and was #11 last week.
>worldwide
The only thing that matters is Japan, dumb westerner.
And it's flopping BIGLY there.
>BIGLY
It's like at 90k week 2, not particularly bad, really.
Doing worse than the first game, but that's about it.
i'm sure it's doing far better on Steam compared to the previous games, after all it's a simultaneous release. it has a 17k peak players for 2k for BD2 and TS. the catch is: is it performing well enough to justify the physical gap while not compromising on PC sales?
if we looked just at peak users, which is stupid, and had it match the 2k of those games, it would allow it 15k extra sales which would have it match BD2 from that previous chart.
it's a naive way to look at the numbers, but i'm not worried about OT2's sales compared to the other Asano titles.
TS would have been the dodgiest of them and it still hit one million (it's my favourite out of them all, mind you, finally a nip game that does something interesting with route alignments).
and TS clearly did well enough if they care to go back and give it a free update with mostly QoL. Asano titles have found their niche and as long as they're selling within that range they might get a sequel or 2 before they come in with a new IP to get more sales again.
>bravely default
>bravely default: flying fairy
>bravely second
>bravely default II
what the fuck man?
The first two you mention are the same game.
Being multiplat disincentivized Nintendo from big advertising pushes, and launching in the crowded as fuck first quarter of the year rather than the summer dead zone that Octopath 1 did probably didn't help.
Not making a lot of meaningful upgrades that reviewers took note of(e.g. no experience sharing) probably hurt a lot too, when getting the chance to do Game 2 meant they could confront all the issues people had with the original.
The production values are great, but pseudo-retro novelty can only carry you so far.
>getting the chance to do Game 2 meant they could confront all the issues people had with the original.
They did do a lot, stuff like character interaction/banter, being able to view the banter without autistically changing teams, no purple chests, characters are more unique gameplay-wise.
The whole no shared exp/forced main character is really part of the design philosophy they have in mind I guess.
>Switch version dropped HALF sales in comparison to OT1
Oh wow I did not expect Nintendo fans being the usual scumbag casuals
OT1 was exclusive for a long time and OT2 isn't
Not sure what this actually says about sales figures
>OT1 was divisive
>OT2 is now a multiplat
>switch has all these other JRPGs for fans to play
>w-why don't switch owners buy OT2, h-ha scumbag casuals
switch owners are shallow people who fall for the fad gimmick of the moment, even the console itself is a meme. Nintendo enforces this since time immemorial. Remember when Nintendo fired Squaresoft because "RPGs are not appealing to the big public"? Yeah, that's when Squaresoft pulled out FFVII for the PS1.
>muh ocarina of tiem
Shit game, cliché ridden garbage
>LE MARIO!
>switch owners are shallow people
>even the console itself is a meme
>Nintendo enforces this
>Remember when Nintendo fired Squaresoft
Do you think the month could have made a difference? Ot was in july while ot2 was in feb.
Novelty wore out. Nintendo people only follow heavily marketed trends. I doubt the month made a difference.
it didn't but
>not novel unlike the first game
>with every year the amount of people giving a shit about proper jprgs falls as zoomies are too stupid and adhd ridden to play them and older people get on with their lives
>awful economic situation makes people buy games less, especially when garden gnomes start wanting $70 for them
I regret buying bravely default 2 so much, garbage game. Octopath is a better bravely default game.
sounds like you got filtered
also it has actual thief class and i'm amazed they just can't fucking copypaste is
It's just bad, no filtering necessary. Played both of the other games, and they ruined the combat completely in 2.
I didn't play BD or BS, I found BD2 to be very meh. It's *okay* but I struggled to stay invested. Finished everything through the red mage/painter, then finally lost interest fully somewhere around the 4th crystal.
Bravely 2 has a superior battle system with a lot of depth when it comes to build crafting. Octopath 2 feels shallow in comparison, and it's missing QoL features like auto-battle and saved gear/skill loadouts. Where octopath 2 shines is in the writing, voice acting, and art style, but eventually battles become too mindlessly repetitive to be enjoyable, partially because of the unavoidable random encounters (BD2 has visible encounters like most modern JRPG's)
>QoL features like auto-battle
auto battle sucks balls in like every game other than FFXII
>Where octopath 2 shines is in the writing
Cutest couple.
yes
I wonder if anyone was determined to not sell Agnea's Purse of Hope.
>selling lump of silver or agnea purse
total gayry
Huh. I think it's still in my inventory. I was hesitant to sell it just in case it was needed for a quest.
Partitio's sliver ore, too.
Nope, you don't need it for a quest.
I know that now, but at this point, I don't need to sell them when I can fleece monsters for money. Heck, I was rich enough to bribe the secret boss to let me kick their ass back to the Shadow Realm.
I have not sold it for the entire game so far.
I still have the lump of silver and the purse. I will never sell them.
Do it. SELL IT
sold copies doesn't mean shit, the game is and series as a whole is objectively good, casual filth being filtered nothing to see here.
Octopath is a casual game
And there's nothing wrong with that, if it's enjoyable to the target audience.
yeah sure, show me how many casuals beat the final true boss of OT1, you can't. game wasn't meant for non JRPG enthusiasts, which isn't a large audience to begin with, well not compared to audiences of other genres/franchises
i'm waiting
>which isn't a large audience to begin with,
Yet it still dropped 30% from the first game
Should I start as Osvald or Ochette I am torn
Ochette starts in the middle of the map and you can go wherever after that. You also get a bunch of really good food (consumables) just by capturing and cooking monsters into jerky.
Osvald is the canon protagonist if you want to go in the letter order.
That's Ochette if you use that rule though
Wrong.
I won't spoil anything but Osvald is canonically the starting O
The order in this game is not determined by the map but by the first letter of the antagonist
post it
Osvald and Harvey
Castti and Trousseau
Temenos and Arcanette
Ochette and Petrichor
Partitio and Ori
Agnea and Tanzy
Throne and Claude
Hikari and Oboro
OCTOPATH/HTAPOTCO
I still don't quite get why Tanzy is so bad? she ended up being influenced by Mindt, but didn't do anything evil, she just located a sacred flame location, and ended up being sacrificed for it... like huh?
probably because she's the only one in Agnea's story that has a connection to the moonshade order/overarching plot, even if it's such a minor one
She wasn't really. She was just obsessed with Mindt who took advantage
She's really just a victim of circumstance. Her hubby died, she fell for some cleric chick who said the right words at the right time, and BOOM, sacrifice. Which is pretty fitting considering the otherwise harmless nature of Agnea's story.
Look at the opening. Ochette is clearly the starting O.
Wrong.
I know that and it doesn't matter. All the advertisement and the opening puts Ochette as the starting O so you're meant to think of her as such.
Agnea is the canon protagonist if you go by the epilogue
>Osvald
>Can scan enemies, useful for all of five seconds
>Ochette
>cute wolf girl
>can use her companion to expose weak spots
>early access to hunter for 'more rare monster' skill making early leveling very quick
>cute wolf girl
How is this a question?
Ochette
>Get good healing items from enemies
>Can go straight to western continent and get 4 characters easily vs Osvalds 3
>Akala makes finding weaknesses easy
>Is a cute cat girl
If this is your first Octopath game, don’t do Osvald. His is easily the hardest Chapter 1 and you have to do his Chapter 2.
>people of Sai: man this place is a poverty stricken shithole, we’re all depressed and poor
>Dolcinea: I’m going to renovate this place and turn it into a paradise
>people of Sai: NOOoO YOU CAN’T
She did nothing wrong
Did you really think she was gonna let those people live there after she was done with the remolding?
i am simple man, see brown cat, buy
I love how the gameplay picks up in the early part as you put together your team. The new powerups are cool too.
I’m focusing on 4 characters then doing the other 4. Is there a downside to doing this?
Side dungeons and stuff, either you do them all with your first team or you need to artistically note down all of them so at least they feel even in what you do with them.
your game will start leaking mustard gas
It's your journey, walk it how you like.
>Is there a downside to doing this?
Depends on which group you start with.
I'd recommend NOT starting with the eastern continent as all the western clown stories will make you want to drop the game if you've already experienced the kino of Osvald, Temenos and Throne.
Also going back from combat with a full team with 2 fully skilled jobs, secret classes and optimized gear to level 10s with 2 skill feels incredibly shit.
This is my preferred method of play and there aren't any downsides in II unlike in 1 where you needed Therion for the purple chests.
I don't like Temenos because he's gay
He’s not gay though
Yeah he's bisexual
>scholar mugging people with fists
>priest mindraping kids so they tell him where their secret stash of candy is
I need help building a team for some of the crazy shit I keep stumbling across. I'm maining Temenos until I finish up his story, and I've gotten everyone. I'm using the eastern continent team and seem to be lacking in quickly building up to my heavy damage attacks.
Temenos is subbing Armsmaster for easy breaks and the axe skill, Osvald is Arcanist at the moment to learn everything from it, Ochette is Merchant (with a few of the once per battle monsters available so that's what she builds up to) and Throne is Dancer right after finishing up Warrior.
>why yes I do choose 4 female characters are my main party, how could you tell?
but which is the Stacie?
The little boy thief in Clockbank will give Agnea a Dazzling Artwork and a Gold Pocket Watch, but you need to be level 50 to get his Stuffed Toy
the feels...
>OT3
>female Warrior
>female Scholar
>male Dancer
>male Hunter
imagine
sounds dumb
I want a male dancer, as slutty as the female ones, with a properly depressing story.
I want the merchant to have the revenge story.
Honestly if they do a third Octopath I'd kinda like some different jobs at this point.
What if they did that, and replaced bows with guns?
Would be kino for a male DNC to be of tribal descent so it could be similar to what Ochette is and they do war dances
>The antagonist of the story is the current owner of Partitio & Roque after Partitio himself retired
How does this game handle overleveling and keeping the challenge if you go and explore everything
If you keep rotating teams, the only overleveled character will be your mc.
Just pay attention to the story levels on the map and do them when you are around said levels, it's easy enough, you have big
>CHAPTER 2 LEVEL 12
For everything.
It doesn't.
Story bosses will always survive with 1 HP and prevent you from skipping their phase changes and dialogue at least, even if you overkill them on turn 1/2.
Osvald in the epilogue as a proper shirt and pants
Nice.
Enjoyed the epilogue more than I expected, some sincere feels there. They did a good job with the final battle, though I think Vide was a little easier than she should've been. The mechanic to use all 8 of your party members was MUCH improved over the Galdera shit in OT1 as well.
>Throné Chapter 2
>actually pick the bloodstained choice
>expect throne to have some ungodly poison resistance because snake
>nope, game over
Was disappointing.
I miss her
She's probably dead since II takes place in the future.
How come Ochette was the only beast girl to listen to Aslan enough to talk like a normal person?
by her nearly shoving an arrow into his face so he had to teach her the language
I haven't finished the second game yet, but I wish you could swap out the 8 party members freely in the overworld. It'd be better for convenience sake and in game logic too. You can just have the characters swap out in battle if there's a party wipe.
I'm honestly not feeling this game's ost as much as I was the first one, especially the boss them.
theme* goddammit it's late
your own fault for not picking throne first and being greeted with one of the best themes right off the bat
what are some of the commonly missed areas for the visit all areas trophy?
The one place I missed was where you get the priest's pendant to get the 2nd cleric license.
>The worth of a dream, The courage to rise again, unshakable pride
>The beauty of friendship, The value of a smile, A goal worth fighting for
>A mother's love, The joy of dancing, the power of determination
What did you pick for each one?
I wish the song of hope was added to your inventory with actual lyrics depending on what you chose.
wtf....Agnea looks like THAT?
talents
When does it get good? I'm recruiting my 3rd party member now. Does it have nice, hard combat? I actually died to one of the character bosses a few times.
>dying to ch1 bosses
Osvald's first boss can be a real bitch
I do appreciate that you can't bring a full party for everyone's first chapter and even have to do it completely solo in some cases.
In Ochette's chapter 1 boss, if you don't take out the spawns before the boss eats one, the next attack will hit hard even when defending.
Ochette's fight is one of the easiest because she can spam jerky
Agnea sucks Castti is way better
I love my cute murdermommy
>catch the zombie puke dragon
>throne's nighttime buffs
>partywide arkar's coil with agnea
>puke dragon pukes
>drastic measures
>Master of Power is retarded
>Master of Wealth is just as retarded but written by an edgy 15 year old
>Master of Fame is a decent idea executed poorly
I'm actually expecting Master of All is gonna be total fucking nonsense and looking forward to it. I assume Bestower is when the writing is supposed to get better.
>still playing CotC when OT2 is out
shiggity diggity
I killed Galdera and finished all the sidequests almost 2 weeks ago, then started CotC after.
View banter
I don't remember the Octopath 1 stories at all but I feel like the OT2 Chapter 1 stories have been substantially more engaging right off the bat then they were. Every character (except Agnea) has quite an interesting situation going on. I'm actually looking forward to playing all their stories this time around. Hoping they don't flub it in the later chapters.
Cyrus and Primrose are still the best stories but temenos, throne and osvald are very close.
Too bad that 3/8 stories in OT2 (all from the western continent) are a mega skipcore snoozefest with basically no connection to the overall narrative.
>all from the western continent
look I respect your right to your opinion but that 1/8 from the western continent better be castii that's all
>not liking everyone's story equally
If you're judging based solely on their connections to the overarching plot, then you're just stuck with Tenemos. Everyone else just had an antagonist/side character that magically get "revealed" as evil later in the game. If this game was just about the final story, then it would be the lamest shit ever. Just enjoy the fact that Partitio is a fucking gigachad who single-handedly started the industrial revolution just to make people happy.
make them kiss
Agnea gets worse
I started with Agnea and got Hikari, any advice?
Just keep getting people, wrap up your continent first I guess.
I finally got all the achievements in OT2, but I'm embarrassed about the last location I missed when doing the Master of Solistia achievement.
The spot I missed was the level 48 dungeon off the cost of the Toto'haha boat dock.
Also, crossing over the mobile game, I wonder how the OT2 playable cast would look wearing the Divine Rings associated with their primary job's god?
The last area I got for that achievement was thankfully just the Gate of Finis itself.
Okay just completed everything except the gates of hell, vide was easier than i expected temes nuke is pretty nice with Stone of thruth/scholar ultimate, 26K×2 is not that bad for 200sp and Having castii as a sp batteri pretty much removed all downsides.
Enjoyed it though hopefully they get another one made in a few years, maybe ill replay the first 1
>start final quest
>shitty or no bgm
>cave full of notes
What a bad experience that just sours the ending for me.
They didn't learn anything from the first game.
Guess they run out of money or time since all those notes could have been showed as cutscenes.
for a scrivener, she sure is bad at keeping herself stuff together
Why does Castti turn me on so much
opedius complex
Perfect wife material
Yeah i was kinda dissapointed in temenos last chapter, on the other hand if you had used it in the fight and Brown away all your sp you might be in a bad spot, on the other hand oswalds otm is 75sp which might be half of your sp pool at those levels
best girl
This game is making me think a Japsploitation movie about a samurai visiting the Deep South could be funny
We already got Shanghai Noon
Watch Appare Ranman
>secret move is just a bunch of slashes in different directions
>billion anime slashes instead of just chopping the head off
>no blood or wounds because modern anime is cucked and this is only allowed in pedo misery porn
anime is so fucking gay
they already made red sun zoomer baby
this looks like trash
>doing stimulate
wat
dancer move that "stimulates" a person to act first in the following turns
>Castti's chapter 2
>one half is retarded
>another is genuinely touching
the desert one is just kind of filler, but I didn't find it objectionably pointless though
It's just fucking dumb
>i've been slaughtering this people for many years
>just now have i realised that they are humans too
Castti herself is never at fault though, she's an amazing character. I want a wife like her.
Vide? More like Gankerde, am I right?
>exploring some areas
>suddenly a spooky music and color inverted enemies
You know what's shit?
Only 2 (TWO) characters got their 2nd ex skill mid fight.
What were they thinking?!
Ochette at least had some kind of power-up in her fight, but I don't get why they didn't also give her her ex skill.
Castti in the dancer outfit is pure sex.
post it i havent seen it yet
I'm feeling like I was wrong to enjoy the stories as self-contained narratives, and that I was supposed to criticize them for not being sufficiently linked to the overarching save-the-world-from-the-demon-lord plot that's present in the final story.
You're supposed to enjoy them as self-contained narratives and then slowly pick up that they're connected until the final chapter ties everything together. Except for Partitio and Agnea's stories which have nothing to do with anything apparently.
I was expecting Dolcinea to be way more evil considering how Agnea's chapter 2 ended.
I took Agnea's and Partitio's stories as being thematic refutations of the philosophy of the antagonists of the connected narrative, similar to Tressa and Alfyn's stories in the first game.
Only a few hours in and Hikari and Ochette feel really lame in towns.
Both of them are monsters in battle so Im conflicted.
Last chapter spoilers:
How do the sacrifices work to douse the flames?
Dark hunter sacrifices herself with the darkblood bow and douses a fire
Kazan kills Mugen's number 2 with the darkblood sword and douses a fire
Arcanette sacrifices Tanzy with the darkblood staff and douses a fire
Ori stabs herself (presumably with a darkblood dagger that we never see for some reason) and has second thoughts and somehow survives apparently, but it still works???
All that is required is a sacrifice of blood using a Darkblood weapon near a Sacred Flame brazier, so Vide can get close enough to snuff it out. The wound need not be fatal, as Ori discovered.
Meant for
all good, I deleted and reposted since I fucked up my spoiler tags
>Locking your first choice into your party until you finish their entire story
I am once again asking why they decided to do this
For people who have finished the game, am I better off with an overleveled Osvald or just cutting the game in half and finishing 4 character stories before flipping around and doing the other 4?
I just accepted having an overleveled protagonist and shuffled everyone else around as needed.
i'm doing the second version, gonna finish Oswald, Partitio, Throne and Temenos before switching to the other 4. Planning to not share equipment either just to keep it challenging.
It's just overleveling one character which isn't a big deal, really.
As long as you shuffle characters around every single chapter you do, it's fine, they will actually end up evenly leveled outside of your mc and you have no need to do mental gymnastics with equipment or exploration.
>I am once again asking why they decided to do this
If I had to guess, it's because older gen RPGs had a tradition of locking one character into the player's party as the main character, and this franchise is emulating that effect while also implicitly giving you the choice of which of the eight you personally consider your main character.
As for your other question, I say that you should do whatever feels right for you. After all, this is an adventure all your own, not one Ganker should micromanage for you.
I've done both. While it was nice to not have Cyrus blow everything away all the time it was annoying to basically have no party choice beyond assigning subjobs
Just wanted to know if there was anything in this game that favored one system over the other
>fighting the final boss
>take in my big dick damage team at the start
>second phase comes really quick, other team is ready for action, no sweat
>motherfucker spawns a tentacle with REFLECT (no timer even, just permanent)
>entire team is predicated on Magic Bombing
>not even Enervating Slash got rid of it
>lose
I'm seething with ungodly anger the likes of which you cannot fathom. If this game wants to play dirty, I will respond in kind. The time for niceties has passed, It is time to bring in two Merchants. May Bifelgan forgive me the riches I am about to spend.
I was lucky that my first team apparently did enough damage that a single tap from team 2 phased her into the final phase
>not even Enervating Slash got rid of it
It gets rid of your own buffs, not the enemies. You need Abating orb for that.
>It is time to bring in two Merchants
welcome to the club
You have hired the assassins outside the last crestlands town right?
I wish agnea would rape me.......
Out of all 4 playable girls in the game she would be the least likely to do that. Castti is probably the one who'd do that.
>NO MERCY, ONLY PAIN
You mean Throne, the one who's canonically doing that for jobs.
Oh, no. A traveler has used a path action on you! What kind of miscellaneous junk or info do they get out of you?
Stuff I fap to.
Mayonegg
May someone please explain to someone who has no idea what happens in this game, besides the fact it's a standard turn-based JRPG, what this is?
Like, can you actually rescue them?
It's flavor text from using a special skill on an NPC in a late game town. This particular text isn't tied to a sidequest or anything like that.
>isn't tied to a sidequest or anything like that.
I gotta say that's kinda disappointing. Thanks for explaining.x00
That particular npc is the former leader of the thieves guild who assumedly went insane due to something Claude is doing.

Why yes Partitio, 2500 leaves is a fair price for this old tissue.
The fattest ass in town
I remember a lot of people here seething over Ochette's design when this game was revealed
>Failing to covertly steal from NPC's as Throne negatively impacts reputation
>Picking fights with NPC's to steal all their shit as Osvald does not
>Osvald failing to scrutinize DOES
Failing to Coerce or Mug someone not negatively impacting reputation seems like an oversight.
To be fair, failing to coerce someone as temenos is pretty fucking common early on.
Technically, what Temenos does is pretty subtle and since he's a cleric of the predominant religion it's all fine.
You DON'T go against the church.
Is temenos REALLY fighting people, or is it just a way to illustrate him grilling people for info? The background is all black and hazy like a dream unlike all the other path actions where you fight NPCs, but he loses actual health and SP from these fights. Is he literally going inside their minds to fight their egos? Scary.
He's pretty much using psychological torture on people, breaking their mental defenses until they confess.
>What rubbish is this? I was just out for a nighttime stroll! I wasn't expecting a Flamechurch Inquisition!
>mfw twink priest sends my mind to the fucking shadow realm
>Fail to allure
>Rep failure

>act like a whore

>attempting to seduce children is okay if you're successful
based
Pretty sure children are immune to recruitment Path Actions in general.
How is flirtatiously begging children into giving you their candy and pocket money any different?
It's different in that you're not dragging them away to get grievously wounded by wild monsters, shady criminals, or hellspawn minions of the wicked god. Duh.
You can’t use most of the violent options on kids
You can still drug them to sleep with Castti or entice them for their items with Agnea
It's a carryover from OT1, where half of the Path Actions had an RNG element that hurts your party's reputation if you fail. Fewer Path Actions taken at night hurt your rep if you fail, presumably because it's easier to escape notice under the cover of darkness.
Feels like too many recruit bros path actions in the game now
I like that you need 4 recruited townsfolk to access a dungeon
There's 4 instances of each of the 4 path actions:
Och: Recruit/KO
Cas: Info/KO
Tem: Recruit/Info
Osv: Info/Item
Par: Item/Recruit
Agn: Recruit/Item
Thr: Item/KO
Hik: KO/Info
ochette is backwards
There's 4 of each kind of Path Action, 2 for day and 2 for night.
-Glean info by talking/staring/clobbering/money
-Recruit people with authority/beauty/meat/money
-Item acquisiton with using money/pickpocketing/begging/clobbering
-Takedown people with martial arts/monsters/drugs/shanking
Trying out different simps is fun though. They're so OP in the early game.
I wish they'd stick around in battle for longer. On bosses they stay for 3 turns (including the 1 turn you burned to summon them) and then fuck off.
I have never used the summon command in either game. In the sequel I only use them for the hire or dance benefit.
>find a guy whose description said he's always getting ripped off and betrayed because he's so trusting
>but he always maintains faith in people in his search for true friends
>recruit him
>88 uses
His ability is just a weak axe but I love him.
>get one of those simps that stands in for bewildering grace
>the game is now extra fun
FUCK THE NIGHT
ALL MY HOMIES LOVE THE NEW DAWN
Do weapon specific techniques factor in the stats of the equipped weapon corresponding to them, the currently held weapon, or the strongest weapon?
the stats of whatever you have equipped. Elemental attacks just go off of whatever weapon has the highest elemental attack.
So with Hikari's learned skills, you'll do very little damage if you don't have a weapon of that type equipped.
What about passive stat boosts like speed boosts? Can I fuck with the turn order by equiping a weapon that reduces speed and another the increases it and swapping between them?
it wouldn't be enough to make a noticeable difference as turn order is semi-randomized anyway. high speed will GENERALLY have you go early, low speed will GENERALLY have you go late.
windy reverie, stimulate, and leghold trap and defend are the only reliable ways of ensuring you go ahead of the enemy
>all that's left to do is galdera
going in with no strategy like i've been doing all game. He can't be that hard, right
smiling "woman" :>
>Hunter job gives everyone beast ears
SOUL
Also buttplug tails.
>Female: corruption
>Ochette solves the island territory issue early by turning the humans living there into beastlings.
Beastlings could also solve their island territory issue by killing all the human women and enslaving the human men haha
I miss Tressa's hood, though
>unique styles for everyone
sovl
Full Power on Hikari is so fucking broken i decided to remove it to have fun with the game
It's Lucky Seven Capable Hands Noah all over again
>full power on Hikari
Full Power is busted in general, but for me it's Ochette.
>Crit Necklace
>Hunter's Claws to double Crit Damage
>Full Power
>Boost Start
>A Step Ahead
>Deal More Damage
>start every fight with a Defend from Ochette and then Beast Claws at Full Boost deals around 10K with a damn near guaranteed Crit
>luckily used her in the same party as Temenos/Throne and always traveled at Night
There's a lot of pieces to it, but with that combo I was able to steamroll every mob fight. It's insane.
>beastlings are just humans mutated by magic
Huh, suddenly their low intelligence makes sense.
what's the party interaction this time around, still the tales style party chats?
Yes.
As a bonus they will interact with each other in the final quest.
>big grizzled old dude with small animal girl
osvald it is then
Too bad there were only 4 crossed paths.
>Throne' has to steal shit from people even though she's a smoking hot babe with huge tits
>Agnea can simply make people give her shit for free by being a giga stacey
Is Throne' autistic or something?
Yes.
Deep One boss fight:
>Sixth Calamity (bring party to 1 HP)
>Great Calamity (9999 dmg to each)
>2 characters have Revive
>he now attacks 2 more time
How is this fucking fair? I beat him later, but if I didn't have Chubby Cait I could just fuck myself with the biggest dildo. This is some massive bs.
Still on ch1
>he hasn’t taken the magic pill
Scholar divine skill + double boost element weapon + relevant spell = murder
Osvald + scholar divine skill + latent power + second EX skill = super murder
Tenemos + scholar divine skill + light boosting staff + second EX skill + all the SP = super murder
You can waste time with hired help or spamming beasts or drastic measures
I’m going to explode everything under the sun
Hikari is shit in comparison
>magic
i too love dealing no damage
Okay
Name a better character for damage than Tenemos
Castti
Magic Castti can single handedly kill a Galdera phase in 2 turns.
As a magic lover myself, let's be real Hikari is the damage king. Bitch deals 40k damage on unboosted Hienka
Good in early game but trash in late game.
This is a really cute picture
SNIFFFFFFFF
Should I just deal with an overleveled leader because of the duo chapters rather than having two distinct parties?
Yes? Cancer like Manymouths will assfuck you regardless of level and you want a really high level for galdera anyway
>finding the worn journal

>Still no news about Emerald Beyond
I hate how despite the series being godly they still refuse to build any sort of interest until the very last minute.
I'll still take it before the usual Nomura marketing tactics of advertising a game a decade before it comes out but still, there has to be some sort of healthy middle of the road.
Is magic actually that bad in this? I have memories of doing stupid damage with sorcerer and runelord runes in the first game
in jrpg terms that just mean it isn't bustedly good
it works but there are way better ways to do shit it does
best thing you can do from magic is slap scholar on temenos and spam latent power element barrage
You can still do stupid damage, but physical has more options and more accessible. The fact that only Ochette could give a reliable elem def down debuff without external help (items/summons) says a lot.
>GAO
I feel bad for anyone who didn't choose this cutie.
>Ori is basically journalist Tressa
My heart
>he picked the owl
Owls are cute.
Post her last chapter boss.
i haven't done it yet
I have no idea how to build but is this 2nd job line up good? I don't have the other advanced classes unlocked yet
>Hikari - Thief
>Agnea - Merchant
>Partitio - Dancer
>Ochette - Warrior
>Throne - Hunter
>Castti - Warrior
>Temenos - Scholar
>Osvalt - Cleric
>Dancer Partitio using Stimulate
I love this thot so much
Osvald Hunter or Warrior lets him equip 2 +element weapons
inventor is more useful on partitio
>Hikari wants the best for his people
>doesn't let them rule trough abolishing monarchy and establishing democratic republic of Ku
???
He's trying to go at a pace that's suitable for his people. Trying to force democracy on Ku would make Hikari little better than Mugen.
people can't do shit and need someone competent to rule them
>Throne fails to steal 3 times in a row despite having an 80% chance to succeed
YOU ARE THE WORST THIEF EVER MY GOD
I've failed several attempts at scrutinize that were at least at 91% chance.
This shit pissed me off in the first game as well. Still not as bad as "96% chance to Scrutinize" and STILL fail.
>failed a 98% chance to Scrutinize 4 times in a row
>succeed first try both times on a 14%
i love RNG
Why do you think she wants out of the Blacksnakes, huh?
i want to hug Tressa
She'll charge you for it.
worth it
Judging by her shitty path ability she would probably charge like 2 dollars because she's the world's dumbest merchant.
Its better than the first game in basically every regard. All the travellers had great stories this time, yes even Agnea. I'm so fucking glad they fixed Hunter (gameplay and character), Ochette moggs Hannit so fucking hard.
It's so nice to have a bow skill that actually hits things.
I forgot what Olberic's story was even about
Former royal knight left jobless after his friend assassinates the king, finds said friend's sword in a bandit leader's hands, journeys to find that friend and avenge the king's death and betrayal.
Remember Tanzy?
Because I sure didn't.
Thank the goddess for that!
>absolute nobody forgettable side character was le evil all along
>immediately gets murdered by some other secretly le evil character before she can even do anything
>the writer's poorly disguised fetish
>Beat the game yesterday

Is....Is Champions of the Continent any good or even worth it
Play Live a Live
The villians are way better. Since they centralizing focusing on (you)
Is it playable on PC?
You can emulate it on pc using bluestacks pie 64bit
It's better than both 1 and 2.
The story is actually really good. Unfortunately the menu lag is garbage, and you'll be time gated on leveling from 80 to 100 by the hunts.
kind of wish the department store let you buy stuff from any store you've already visited
Wait is that great track that plays during chapter final bosses really not on the fucking gramophone?
Does this take place in the future of Octopath 1 or is the Octopath 1 continent just technologically backwards?
It's set in the future as proven when entering the super secret boss dungeon.
Most likely the former.
How is this on PC? I might just get it on Switch
I have it on Switch and it plays just fine, though from what I can tell PC of course has better overall framerate. There's been a few times where it hiccups during battle
>it plays just fine
it really isn't, although the issues are in docked and can be fixed by overclocking
I mean it seems fine to me I dont really care all that much about frame autism
some locations run like absolute dog vomit
>Whatever you listen to on the gramophone ends as soon as you leave the tavern
You would think there would be proper cross paths that are meaningful to the overall arching story. I dont get why they lock party banter with non-equipped members behind journal pages either
I don't get why you only get access to the formation menu option after you start the final chapter.
Tavern man needs a job.
>using huge ass ice blocks and not that thing that makes cubes
>ruining a perfectly good knfe for shaping ice
some people have too much fucking free time
>big blocks store easier
>Lower price overall because done in bulk
>the bartender can customize to fit their drinks.
>presentation and a small show of skill to watch.
>knives are designed to cut things... why is ice exempt?
There are plenty of more useless things than shaping ice for drinks...
I think this is meant to be old school bartending reminiscent of a time when domestic freezers weren't really a thing and you'd get big blocks of ice delivered to your bar for use that day. The showmanship of the process is the appeal, even though it'd be much easier to just use an ice machine like almost all modern bars do.
>Agnea C3 has zero combat at all
?????
Every traveler has one chapter with either no combat or no boss.
ochette soles on my face
>not ochette's tail
>not Agnea's feet
>blistered feet
nah thanks
eww, Ochette has massive stompers
Just did Castti 3, Throne 3B, and Osvald 4 all back-to-back.
I'm depressed.
Do Temenos's Stormhail chapter to cheer you up
Bon Voyage, chief
THRONÉ! THRONÉ!!! THRONÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉ!!!!!!!!!
Agnea x Giselle OTP
Now I’m imagining Hikari fighting her to win Agnea’s heart
Nah, dog. Every Crossed Paths might as well be shipping bait.
Yes. Every one.
I'm disappointed Osvald's EX skill wasn't Ice Boat
I didn't use Teach a single time all game.
It’s sad that his second EX skill is supposed to be the strongest magic in the game (matched only by Tenemos EX2)
But it ends up being outdamaged by Castti throwing herbs at people
I never used Stroke of Genius either. The idea was to give Osvald a little more utility, I guess. But doing anything other than preparing a big attack feels like a waste. If he has nothing to do, you could give someone or himself more stacks of intensified magic.
Is it better than 1 or more of the same. I literally paid full price for Octopath Traveler and quit after 10 hours because it was shit. Im still salty about it
It's better. It doesn't really fundamentally change anything, though, it just does everything a bit better.
I quit Octopath 1 about the same time you did.
Guess Ill keep an eye on it, waiting for a sale on it this time around though
It's basically 1 with more features.
If you dropped 1 you will most likely drop 2 too.
Basic formula is the same.
There is a demo that let's you play up to 3 hours so give it a try.
If you didn't like 1 you won't like 2. It changes a few things but its fundamentally the exact same formula.
I quit Octo 1 at around 12-15 hours and have plowed through about 60-70 hours of Octo 2. In my opinion it's a straight upgrade on the first one
Ori best girl
Pls give more Ori
Did she survive?
Supposedly, but I don't think you ever see her again
you can see her in a semi-coma at the inn in crackridge and then again in the very back during the epilogue
>tfw the cute scrivener is an evil stalker
Built for correction
How long until Dunkey reviews it?
what the game tells us we were fighting vs what we were actually fighting
>he can't beat an elephant in a fight
shiggy dig
Was it the same animal?
Partitio had a hilarious boss for his 2nd chapter.
people in octopath just suddenly grow 30 feet tall when you have to fight them
I know, isn't it awesome?
Just like MMO's and any other old school RPG its great
Boars can get fucking massive, dude, they consistently clear 500lbs and they are territorial as fuck. A huge boar could absolutely terrorize a whole town.
both are equally cute
Would shoot ori in the fucking head
don't show the boss sprite schizo this or he'll think she's actually flying
>an Inventor that isn't Partitio
>He doesn't teamwide coil
>he doesn't teamwide sidestep
>he doesn't sealtige's partitio and then teamwide reflective barrier
Bro...
Why bother with those last 2 when Ochette can give you max stacks of both easy
>he gives out classes by usage instead of by style/personality
Couldn't be me. Finding a coincidental synergy and working with what you have is half the fun.
ori being hidden in the seats here would be pretty cool
>20 years old
Tressa > Ori
might start a new playthrough soon - what's a good challenge aside from solo story clears?
no subjobs
makeshift weapons only
No Support Skills, or slightly lesser No "Final" Support Skills.
I'm not going to pretend like the others don't have purpose, after all stats never hurt, but the 4th Tier of almost every Job is loaded.
>Deal More Damage
>Full Power
>Rise Again
>Salt the Wound
>BP Regeneration
>Fruits of Labor
>Of Equal Might
Just cutting out that tier of support skill leaves you high and dry in several places.
>the game flopped
Is this game fun
did you like 90s jPRGs? If you so you'll fucking love these two games
>crtl+f temenos
>17 results
>More than half include throne
We're healing bros.
I got addicted to grinding new zones and now Hikari is almost level 40 and most party members are at or nearing lvl 30. I have only done 3 chapter 2s so far (not counting Osvald)
Have I ruined the game? I was having too much fun.
Also I haven't found a single secret job yet, which ones should I be able to find at this level?
>I was having too much fun.
that's what it's all about at the end of the day
You can get them all except conjurer, which requires you to finish Hikari's story. Inventor is obviously easy to find, Armsmaster requires you to go to Gravell and have a rusty weapon which should be easy to do. Arcanist requires you to beat the Whirlpool boss though.
Octopath 3 needs to have a party member that just punches shit
one of their character designers clearly has excellent taste
those suspenders have the best job in the game
THICK
Honestly surprised they didn't have a monk class in either game.
Maybe they thought it would be too similar to others thematically.
I wish there was more than 4 advanced jobs.
What if Octopath 3 has guns?
This game should have had guns
>Partitio gets guns instead of bows
BULLET OF FORTUNE
>final Invention is a multi-tool that I never used
>not a beta flintlock that caused free shield damage
What were they thinking?
>mfw I compulsively roleplay so I can't bring myself to loot chests that are clearly meant to belong to NPCs in cities
Why do JRPGs have to always tempt you to be a thief?
...you literally have a thief in your party. Just RP as her and steal shit with impunity
I thought storywise she didn't actually want to be a thief and was just a slave thief.
storywise she's a straight up assassin (cleaner)
hey pops
I really want a game that plays and looks like this but has the level of character interactions of something like Trails.
>Trails anything
fuck that
I just mean that the NPC autism from Trails and skits from Tales of would compliment this game perfectly.
complement* I'm still half asleep
I prefer octopath be its own thing thanks.
I was gonna say that the Octopath setting is too idyllic for guns but I remembered that half the stories involve murder, ethnic/class tensions, and slavery.
So I guess the people in Octopath are just retards.
They already have steam locomotives. It's just a matter of time until they discover barrel pressure valve ballistics.
>Partitio retires by the time the third game happens
>Partitio & Roque becomes an arms manufacturer
Oh no
The lore reason is that blacksmiths have a conspiracy to prevent any weapons that weren't used by the 8 gods from being made
I only use the girl party members with Castti as the MC.
Same but my MC is Agnea.
Team COAT
Team TACO
>not running team TOTO
Oh my god, animals are no longer limited use?
