I enjoyed my time with 1. It wasn't cohesive but it was fun enough to play through start to finish. I still haven't picked up 2 but still try it out eventually.
Overhyped, yeah. But I wouldn't say it was a waste of my time. I enjoyed it. I played the first one up until I completed the stories of the first 4 party members I picked. Good music, good boss battles. The job system is dumb because the only jobs you would use are the 4 ultimate ones you unlock, so there's no actual team building
The system is simple but exploitable. You break, you deal unga bunga damage is such an easy concept to grasp, but finding the most optimal ways to work within those parameters is fun for me.
Particularly the Lone Traveler runs are a great time, Though for Octo2 I Forced myself to not just use Hired Help for every boss and try to find other methods because just HH Vets in Octo1 got old.
Particularly in 2 the Shenanigans the Latent powers sometimes allow. Throne's latent is giga-busted, Hikari being able to learn all kinds of extra nonsense attacks, Castii throwing THESE HANDS. And with the dual path actions each solo character has access to slightly different stuff
1 was the first game that made me feel buyers remorse in a long time, combat is too simple and boring, stories are all presentation with no bite and the pixel portraits are misused.
Never tried 2 but seemingly people like it more than 1
BD2s jobs and difficulty are a fuckin joke mate. You're either total dogshit or you obtained the correct rare weapon and job assembly to turn the boss into cardboard. You can optimize stats to an autistic degree but it will literally never matter if you just stick the right Job combos on and 2 turn every fight in the game anyway
I mostly used Four Fold and the similar 4x hit from Beast master, but yeah Godspeed being right there on one of the first classes kinda fucks the entire game for anyone who actually bothered to explore that the classes can do when for no explainable reason GSS does more damage than anything other classes you'd expect to be damage focused
And god forbid you discover that Phantom/Salve can do JFC auto pilot every optional boss
the only good parts of these games is the combat, and that doesn't even get fun until you unlock subjobs and the good abilities and start getting wacky with the party compositions which takes like a dozen hours or more
I strongly disagree with the story and the world exploration.
In both games, once you connect their stories, you understand there's a bigger evil watching from the distance, and the fact that this greater evil even helps you in some way or another in the personal stories of the Octopath crew, just to complete its objective makes a great story to me.
For example in OT2 with Hikari and The Eagle claiming back the lands of Ku, or in OT1, when Alfyn is cured by Graham Crossford; I don't know I like when stories are like that.
The world exploration is better in OT2, because I like to explore areas that people tells there is a good weapon or a good piece of equipment, but they describe vaguely so you just have to find it.
There are points of interest, like that creepy mansion where the music stops and you wonder if people in the nearly town knows something about it... AND THEY DO! That are things I love in games, makes you feel immerse in the world you're exploring
OT1 was a nice, simple RPG with notable issues
OT2 is a big improvement but didn't improve enough in some areas. I'm hoping we get more than 12 classes if there's ever a third game and that we get a new set of the standard 8 classes.
1 bored me to tears, only finished half of the adventurer stories before dropping it
heavily enjoyed 2; only character that i was largely apathetic towards was castti, which is a shame because she was the one I was looking forward to the most before playing
They are just too really good!
I hate Temenos though, he's a prick!
C'mon! He's a cleric, he should be noble and a true gentleman! Yet it feels I'm playing as a villain...
Never played 1 but 2 is pretty good and the ost is banging. A bit gimmicky when i ran through each character's chap 1 one by one but the game picks up afterwards.

stories of some characters are kinda ok. battles are easy (hard mode), bosses are easy. this is the game you don't know why is it exist. combat/leveling is cheap version of bravely default/second. visuals are bad, ost is not good, battles not really interesting.
i think it s something like "if you liked bravely default there s game with references to it"

SE killed Final Fantasy as I knew and loved so Octopath is all I have left.
I have over 200 hours in each, Between getting a 100% file then doing all 8 Lone Traveler runs and a couple mediocre Galdera speedruns
I had a fuckin blast Octo 3 when?
what made you like it so much?

I quite liked OT1 and super loved OT2. Wasn't a waste of time at all.
1 was okay, but not enough to make me play 2. Combat was great, but story, characters and level design was really shallow.
I liked 1 enough to do all the paths but not enough to do the true final boss.

Castti best girl
These games are more for anime story fans, the difficulty is non-existent. The combat is literally just spamming A.
Which is fucking sad, because the Bravely series from the save dev is at least challenging and makes a good use of its job system.

>he spammed GSS, the only broken ability in the game
woooow, such big brain, much smarts
could've just used Cheat Engine if the game is too hard for you lmao

>story?
garbage
>writing?
embarassingly garbage
>world/exploration?
garbage
>dungeons?
garbage
the music is good but repetitive and samey in a lot of cases. Both are easy to pirate now atleast so if they're not on sale there's that option

Very good soundtracks if nothing else. I enjoyed both of the games though.
Didn't finish OT1, loved and 100% completed OT2
Make of that what you will
jrpg japslop
they're 7/10s at best
OT3 should just have 8 bros in a row for the whole game

Doubt is what he does.
> le quirky pixelshit npcs over HD backgrounds.
Pure vomit.
What kind of jobs / classes do you guys hope to see in Octopath 3?
Anything with Sword+Staff besides armsmaster
Magic Knight, some kinda Healy Paladin thing, Arcane Duelist IDGAF I want magic sword
Some kind of chef that can capture and cook monsters into dishes. Uses an axe and dagger for weapons.
Thanks boys, I'll probably pass up on this one
OT2 is probably my game of the year. I love these goobers.
OT2 won't win goty but is my heart's goty
Never played 1 but 2 is pretty good and the ost is banging. A bit gimmicky when i ran through each character's chap 1 one by one but the game picks up afterwards.

i think OT1 is more boring

The first game is one of the most aggressively unfun video games I've ever played. It just isn't for me.
>OT3 is so far into the future that it is cyberpunk
