Oh boy I sure do enjoy 400 hours of teleporting around instanced zones watching unvoiced NPCs with dead pan faces /emoting and flapping their gums about some cliche anime shit before I can actually play the game.

Friendly reminder that if you choose to skip the MSQ with a boost you'll be harassed, doxxed and maybe even receive death threats.

This wouldn't be a problem if they cut down on dialogue. There is WAY too much fucking text in this game, characters will regularily say something in 100 words that could've been said in 5. If they actually got a fucking editor to cut out most of the useless dialogue there wouldn't be anywhere near as much to voice act.

Anon, you do know there's such a thing as atmosphere, right?
If your characters are gonna spout exposition, at least let it fit them, and not just be some dry, grey slop that conveys no character traits. That's just going to make every character seem more like an npc than they already will by virtue of it being a game.
That's the problem you have with a lot of story games, where rather than characters interacting with other characters or with you, you have the writers just using the NPCs as straight up sockpuppets to tell the player what to do.

Anon it's called "brevity". Most stories don't have this problem. FFXIV is notorious for being overwritten with characters never knowing when to shut the fuck up as they just go on and on and on and repeat themselves. There's also a thing called "show, don't tell". You can build atmosphere and worldbuild without ANY dialogue at all. Maybe watch some good fiction with actual competent writers who understand these basic literary concepts instead of the autistic writers at CBU3 who think they need to explain every insignificant detail to you repeat the same point over and over as if they believe you didn't get it the first time a character said it.

                >“I have only made this letter longer because I have not had the time to make it shorter.”
                — Blaise Pascal, mathematician and physicist.

                >“Not that the story need be long, but it will take a long while to make it short.”
                — Henry David Thoreau, writer and philosopher.

                >“If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter.”

You can tell a world through visuals, as I said. 14 does not do this. It tells you EVERYTHING in autistic detail.

Also the world itself has to actually be interesting to warrant the overt attention you're demanding your audience give it. 14's world is extremely shallow and functions as little more than a setpiece for the MSQ. Go to the FFXIV wiki and see how utterly barren virtually every article is. Compare the utterly nonexistence lore each job has compared to the classes in WoW. Like compare FFXIV's paladin lore to WoW's. If you're gonna try and make me give a shit about your world it better be an interesting one which FFXIV's is not and never has been, and the writers have actively been attempting to explain away or destroy what little interesting aspects the world ever had.

I remember having this same argument with Overlord fans when I told them that derailing the story to focus on the gay, generic lizardmen was a waste of time and they told me "well no the writers are just W O R L D B U I L D I N G anon". XIV's paladin lore is shit by virtue of them basically being knights rather than true paladins, but that doesn't change that WoW's worldbuilding is downright garbage.

I'm a brainlet but I think...you're mad that they explain the lore? Do you want them to handwave stuff just for the sake of le deep lore?
I personally don't think that approach works for most cases.
For example, with the cure for tempering they explained the process step by step to detail how hard it is to conceive that such a process is possible to our characters. If they handwaved the process too much then us as the audience will ask "duhh its so obvious why didnt they think of that?"
And when they do explain the mechanics of it step by step, it keeps us engaged with the world and how it actually works. And in the meanwhile you can attach a character to that process for character development and see that character struggle and what he/she learned from the supposed "overexplained" thing.

He is upset that characters have traits and their own lexicon and aren't just used to dump exposition about the world in as few characters as humanly possible. He is doubly upset that CBU3 doesn't show the things these characters are talking about. Writing to him is an efficiency process: you relay concepts asap and if you don't do it as rapidly as possible, you're a failed writer.
Fully ignoring that character writing is its own beast that does not care at all about those rules. People in real life don't robotically go down a summarized list of events or tasks either.

I agree that shortening explanations for the sake of just shortening it is not a good thing, but I do feel xiv does have too much exposition sometimes though (maybe for new players idk)
Like in 6.5 when Zero went to the first I was really annoyed how they reintroduced those characters as if the WoL didnt really know them, so I do feel the writing was lacking there

You must be a time travler from right around the time Wrath came out. Back when everyone was Making MMOs that were 90% wow clones.
Times changed Grand Pa. Riot has more brand power than blizzard. Genshin is the bigger MMO that people look to now. People would rather play Fortnite Classic than spit on a wow player.

I'll do that shit when I'm able to unsync it. Why force myself to do it when it's new and have a static that spends weeks trying to clear one fight just to move onto the next, all for what's really the reward is pieces of glamour? Come up with a better retort.

Man I just don't remember older MMOs being like this. I can't explain why but I miss how simple it was when older MMOs just made you grind mobs from zone to zone to level up. Then when you reach endgame you have to rely of getting rare loot from a mob drop or instanced dungeon/raid, instead of it being a guaranteed drop or giving you currency that you gradually collect to just outright buy the item from an NPC. Older MMOs did world events better too.

Unironically WoW started the shift from old to new. It was developed as the casual alternative to EverQuest.

Don't fall for nostalgia anon. The truth is that most of the old MMOs were only grindy and slow, there was no real depth or difficulty. The only reason people tough those game were hard or complicated it's because they were young during a time when the internet was young. If you know what you are doing, even EverQuest is easy as hell and can be cleared in a just a few weeks.

Yep, and they'll only be adding more of them. At least one for 7.0 afaik. So 4 soon, and who knows how many more before 7.5.
They probably would make for pretty fun alt-dungeons like we have regular dungeon roulette. More engaging to me, at least.
