Fear of the consequences of not believing God is real so they try and cope by saying he isn't real. But then they don't realize the devil is just tricking them into thinking he and God dont exist.

It's a fair point but it's more proof that the Bible isn't just a book of metaphors and fairytales. Much like the historic proof of a great flood, we can dive into the argumentation that sure the events happened but maybe God wasn't present but it's a far cry from "ITS ALL FAKE ITS ALL BULLSHIT" that the more militant atheists posit

This is the kind of thing someone says and then they go to hell and realize how wrong they are. This earth is FULL of anguish and torment but it is still a plane where good and joy can exist. Hell is the furthest thing removed from God for all eternity, not a paltry 100+- years. That if we extend that theory, which holds constant for all matter and energy, to consciousness, it's most likely that we continue to be conscious after death. If matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed, why could consciousness be?

Your perspective, personality and viewpoint are determined primarily by your life experiences and secondarily by your genetics. They’re categorized and stored in your brain. Just like every other living being. And when your brain gets damaged you lose all of it. Just like if you were to smash the hard drive on your desktop.

There isn't even a void. Death is often likened to a void because there is nothing for you to experience afterwards; a void of experience. But this is an error; there is no longer a "you" to experience any void. Death is more like a dreamless sleep that you never wake up from.

This shadow persists after your conscious cessation as an other self detached from from this dimension, but still anchored to it.
      This is your ghost.
The stronger the firing of your brain, the darker the shadow, and the more powerful your other self's haunting will be.
Some are strong enough to continue interacting with the world.

I think this is the most plausible result. We don't have any examples of consciousness without a physical brain, and changes in the physical state of the brain causes changes in personality.

Not really, because I believe in radical change. Radical change can be the same as death. What you desire is a continuity, a sense of influence transferring from one life to another.

It has nothing to do with my own identity lol, conciousness might as well be shared by all living things, but whoever you are or what you are will never perceive the absense of conciousness.
An infinite amount of time has passed before our birth but a finite amount of time will pass before we awaken in a new body wherever that might be in the universe.

so why should there be any continuity at all? why should consciousness continue from one form to another, rather than end completely and then begin anew in something else?

There are some people who don't believe in a god (or at least specifically the abrahamic god/any religions specific gods) but still believe in things like ghosts, karma and reincarnation.
Personally I think that's kinda weird, you'd assume one would be a strong indicator of the other but maybe I just don't get it.
Personally I don't believe in anything supernatural, metaphysical or spiritual and I assume death is like what life was before I was born.

Those concepts simply deal with a layer of reality that we cannot ordinarily interact with. There's strictly no need for a god to be involved, which is why you may see some atheists or non-religious people believe in those concepts.

What defines the boundary between "natural" and "supernatural"?

            Anonymous

Natural as in, we can scientifically observe it and study it. It doesn't have to be physical, but its effects on reality can be seen and interacted with (e.g. gravity)
Supernatural as in, we cannot observe it normally, there's no tangible way to interact with it, the only way to interact is entirely personal, subjective, or mystical explanations for something happening that one does not have full information for e.g. (I saw a ghost of grandma, something bad/good happened to me because of karma/luck/destiny/divine providence)

Why is consciousness such a complex subject it's fascinating but at the same time no one knows what it truly is

It's just to hard from a scientific view at the moment l imo. Philosophy seems to be the best way to explore what consciousness is since science just doesn't have the tools or techniques to do it yet.

Philosophy is the most fundamental and important field to study. Moreso than math, science, languages, history. Of course they're all interconnected.

I think consciousness is just the consequence of several traits coming together in one place for separate reasons. Like how separate traits come together to give us a beetle who can fire weaponized acid or a bug that can fire sticky traps as a form of hunting or even octopus and their amazing camo abilities.

I know I will return and pray again my faith in Christ wavers but is never broken. But I should give up on prayer I wish I could since I know its foolish but I am a fool and I come back for more.

Am I meant to believe that the reason I don't have a relationship with Christ is because I am not sincere? I feel that I am earnest I pray while crying deeply longing for love. But it is futile, at this point I'm not afraid of hell, when I plummet to hell I can finally say 'there you are! finally I have real knowledge of your presence" killing myself is desirable I shouldn't even believe but I really want to I want a supernatural savior in this universe that doesn't care for my own turmoil.

Is it true that the Bible doesn't talk about hell that much and our modern concept of hell was mostly invented by the church to scare people?

      Anonymous

There are mentions of Hell but it doesn't talk much about what it's like, it simply mentions that when you die you are judged, and from that judgement you go to heaven or hell. Heaven is an incredible place that we also dont know heaps about but we are told it's the good place and Jesus who is God's son and also God and also man pulled a frickin cheat code and made it way easier to get into heaven with the ultimate sacrifice. That's about the size of it give or take some stories, rules, songs, and poems

Will just copy paste the relevant verses from Romans.

What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15For he says to Moses,

“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”[a]

16It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. 17For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”[b] 18Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

19One of you will say to me: “Then why does God still blame us? For who is able to resist his will?” 20But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’”[c] 21Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?

22What if God, although choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction?

What Paul is saying contextually is that mercy is freely given AND withheld; God explicitly knows who will reject/accept him at the moment of their creation, and Pharoah rejecting God in Exodus was explicitly not Pharoah's decision. Some people are made to be saved (special pottery) and some people are made to be destroyed and die the second death (common pottery). This makes people SUPER uncomfortable because it's not fair by any reasonable metric.

The story of adam and eve somewhat supports the idea of other intruding deities, they can be angels/fallen angels but removed biblical books name other deities or at least beings above humans who frick with us and try to ruin shit for us like that homosexual snake who got us kicked out. They're certainly not on God's level but there are many things we do not know that leaves to question why God would allow the snake to tempt man in the first place. That's somewhat besides the point though as if we place understanding that there is a God who created us and places us in either a good place or a bad place, it's not really information that is necessarily owed to us.

So he's not an omnipotent god then? just some being above humans?
Kinda like a dog and their owner. Are we gods to dogs?

          Anonymous

No, God is the top, I'm saying that there are unanswered questions that imply beings above humans but under God. God is omnipotent and omniscient but again, these aren't answers owed to us and God's refusal to outright answer them for us/man's destruction of the removed biblical texts isn't proof that God isn't all powerful.

Doesn't make much difference to me tbh. It's the importance of faith, you either do or don't.

because if he is all-powerful, he allows evil to happen, which makes him evil
and if evil things happen that he can't stop, then he's not all powerful
also this goes without saying but you're a monumental homosexual

No, I think that's an arbitrary set of rules that you set and God is not beholden to. It's a cute thought experiment but in much the same way that gravity doesn't owe you a higher jump, God doesn't owe you everything good and positive. A life without hardship is a life not lived or whatever.

Anti-patriarchy sentiment is the root of all evil. Remember feminism originally started in the garden of Eden by Satan. MGTOW is Adam's way of wrestling against Satan without the help of God. A nihilistic cop out. The meaning of life may just be reclaiming the position of God's laws as the only source of what is good and evil, lawful or satanic. Without God, mankind is insane and lost in its ways.

The world is a threshing floor. Here, we learn our impotence without God. It's a lesson in humility, not a punishment or mishap. We are free to roam the pasture, but will starve or be eaten by wolves if we stray too far. And we have strayed very, very far indeed.

Homosexuality in Judaism is a big no-no. I think it depends on what branch of Buddhism you follow.

Non meme answer is your judged purely on your works, did you do good things?youll be fine. For a majority who went the nihilistic route the void awaits your lack of faith doesnt give you a free pass from judgement.

Most people don't take much time to think about their religious beliefs at all.
For example, think about how many converts there are actually are in the world, it's an extremely small number and when it happens it's quite notable because of this.
If everyone in the world seriously decided to question why they believe something, would almost 99% of them really all come to the conclusion that the EXACT religion and faith they were born in to, their culture promotes and their parents follow happens to be the actual correct one? I think it'd be an absurd coincidence.

I like to think religions like Buddhism have it partly right. I hope the 'soul' still remains as ambient energy that then transfers into another living creature, even if its a plant or animal. And maybe in due time your soul will grow stronger through righteous acts. I think reincarnation is somehow more realistic than another plane of existence.

It seems far more likely to me that it's just chemicals and neurons firing in your brain that creates your personal so called "qualia", and there's certainly more physical evidence for that with how it's practically proven that messing with the brain directly impacts your consciousness, your personality, your senses, how you perceive things and how you take in information.

      >we make no sense compared to anything else on this planet
Not really, we're chimps that started standing up and selecting for being able to run after wildebeest instead of climbing trees to eat fruits.
      >there even saying now the space we are from the sun and the way other planets protect us from extinction events perfectly makes no god dam sense
      >perfectly
Except for all the times we've been hit by big fricking rocks, the fact that space is big has more to do with us not getting obliterated than a gas giant with a fat gravity well further out in the solar system

      >assloads of our functions make no god dam sense evolution wise we just have them for some reason
Common misconception about evolution, there's lots of things that "evolve" that don't have any immediately APPARENT reason for evolving, but ultimately the only thing that matters when it comes to the process of evolution is "did you reproduce", repeat ad infinitum. Everything is secondary and generally coincidental, evolution doesn't pick and choose what mutations happens, they just happen and if they don't interfere with reproduction they stick around.

Buddhism is cooler than other religions, but I can't get behind karma as a concept. You're supposed to build it up to be reincarnated, only to lose all memory and virtue, just to see if you can do it again? Sounds like a never ending cycle of torment to me. Samsara.

Anon, I'll give you the super secret code word to use around yoga b***hes to see if they are. Ask them if they believe in reptilians. If they do there is a high chance that they think most israelites are reptiles. They just haven't put two and two together. Trust me, I've fumbled some of the baddest b***hes in the world

I always think that when you die you go into whatever video game/music/show you were watching when you died or whatever anime you can think of when you are bleeding out or just dying. Its pretty much the only thing keeping me going at this point.

It is but it isn't. Humans are naturally superstitious and zealous - it's probably why being neurotic is a thing and why it's an evolutionary adaptation.

Inside an ideological communist state the people who are the most fanatical and loyal to the ideas and truly believe them will rise to the top. That's similar to how religious structures work. The head is a fanatic that will cut his dick off for the cause compared to the guy at the bottom who doesn't care and just wants to make money for bread and wine.

          >God says you'll go to hell for MURDER
          >Doesn't commit murder
          >Therefore you don't go to hell
All your confusion will go away if you learn the difference between murder and self-defense and understand you're meant to take the words literally and not subjectivity. Killing is not murder (it can be but isnt always) therefore it doesn't imply you go to hell for always murdering. This is increibly simple logic and if you don't get it you're not trying.
