Sonic Heroes has wonderful aesthetics, sound and level design for the most part, I just wish that its controls didn't feel so slippery, Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 nailed the controls in 3D, so why not this one? Otherwise it's still pretty good, though I feel Fronties is a step in the right direction for the future of the series.
>run for a second >STOP >fight this herd of enemies >run for a second >STOP >fight this herd of enemies >repeat
Yeah really great design putting roadblocks every second. And I love how robots have a high life meter now. If that wasn't enough, you have to do the same campaign 4 times too.
If you're stopping to fight enemies for more than a few seconds you suck at the game. Stop playing like such a pussy and make sure you're leveled evenly. You should never break speed formation unless absolutely necessary.
*puts giant blocks in your way that have no reason to be there*
*puts a giant fan in your way that has no reason to be there*
*puts a flagpole in your way that has no reason to be there*
*makes you pull a lever for 3 seconds to open a door*
*makes you switch to tails(you DID have him at lvl 3 I hope) to take down flying enemies*
Some people just don't get it, it's sad really. This is why we got basic games like Colors and Forces. Idiots.
>no more chao garden
Good fucking riddance, having to farm animals to feed a retarded baby for hours to watch it race and do karate just to get the final level sucked.
>implying you weren't going to get animals and chaos drives when going for ranks and other missions
You basically will always have 2-3 levels worth of drives and animals after a stage. And if you were going for emblems, you should have a max stat chao by the time you need the chao emblems.
Maybe if the storage was unlimited I'd agree with you but unless you're stopping by after every 1-2 missionss as a character and doing your retarded baby feeding then, you're in for a grind and maybe this is a me problem but I was a little too busy having fun challenging myself with the A ranks to want to go through 3 loading screens to slowly feed a chao. Not to mention only a handful of animals are actually solely beneficial.
>Some people just don't get it, it's sad really
please, by all means explain to me why they have two level mechanics tied to Knuckles(who can fly by holding hands???) and sonic(who needs a pole to somehow fly???) when tails LITERALLY IS THE FLYING CHARACTER, or why they put healthbars on enemies when the whole concept of sonic is SPEED and you can bypass msot enemies by jsut running past them SO THERE'S NO REASON TO FIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE
It's fun to run, see a thing, switch, do the ability and proceed in quick succession. Healthbars on enemies force you to consider your approach more when you see an enemy. Do I need to slow down and use Power? What are my levels at? Can I build enough speed and homing attack negating the need to kill these enemies at all? It makes it more dynamic. It also rewards you for not dying since you'll be leveled and can make any enemy a complete joke at level 3. They only fumble the execution a handful of times and even then it's likely you'll have a team blast ready anyways.
I've come to realise how fucking boring and uninspired Colors is, it's worse than Unleashed because at least Unleashed had SOMETHING going for it. Colors is just like Forces

thats not fast at all, as sonics homing attack cant even down anything but the most basic mooks, and tails is garbage unless youre level 3 >It also rewards you for not dying since you'll be leveled and can make any enemy a complete joke at level 3
the only reason you'd ever die in heroes is from the physics randomly not working and throwing you off a ramp or rail into the abyss because ST cant program for shit

Clearly you don't know the game because there are reasons to die outside of combat and control issues.
They literally put barriers until you defeat these shits after every road. Especially the fucking turtle enemies where you have no choice but to charge up a tornado or use the team blast whatever.
In any case, combat in 3D sonic sucks dick because it kills momentum. Homing attacks stop you in your track after hitting them. It feels terrible.

Anyone that thinks Heroes is bad either never played it or is genuinely too low IQ for a kids action game.
You just use the power character to one shot everything early in the level and then use the speed and flight characters for that once they are leveled up. This isn't hard to figure out and it's a blast to plan out your power ups effectively.
I didn't know anything about "levels". No other Sonic game has this garbage. As a kid you expect me to collect 3 powerups for each character at the start of a level and not get hit at all? I should always be fully powered. Sonic should kill enemies in one hit by default like every other Sonic game. AND even if I knew about this, you still lose momentum when punching or homing attack. There shouldn't be gates and levers to pull in a Sonic game. But no, you're just gonna ignore all that and call me "bad". Even if I was good and never got hit (which I could easily now as an adult), it wouldn't be fun. Objectively bad game design. Just because something is "easy" to do and you can "get over it quickly" doesn't make it fun. How about you quickly take a sniff of my asshole? The faster you do it, the more points you get!

Anon, here's a tip for you. When you kill enemies with one formation, level up drops for the other 2 you aren't using pop up. Kill enemies with Power formation and hit all checkpoints with Speed formation. You're now level 3 Speed. This means your Homing Attack now has wind/tornado properties and blows away shields and it also the strongest it can be. you can now speedily mash homing attack through most mods with no issues and blow away the caps of the big armor guys before power dunking them to death. You'll also likely get Flying formation to level 2 by then, which it enough to mow through and paralyze most enemies, big and small, very quickly. Even more so if it's level 3.
This is the key to finishing levels quickly in Heroes. Getting Speed formation to level 3 as quickly as possible so it can mow down, ignore or trivialize most enemies in the game and keep you moving on through the level. Master this and you'll make it rhough every level very fast. Also, don't forget that Team Blast exists and the different effects it has depending on what teams you use.
If I can figure this all out and easily 100% the game at 12 years old back in 2003, you can pull it off now.
okay now fix the problem of the gold robots that turn invincible, also fix the copy paste level design, also fix the terrible controls and physics, also fix the glitched the fuck level gimmicks that have to be used 20 times per area, and finally fix having the beat the same game 4 times in a row that gets worse and more diluted every single time. Stop defending the ill conceived trashfire of a game and get some taste
What gold robots that turn invincible? The hell are you talking about? the E-3000s? Paralyze them and take them out with Thunder Shoot or mash Level 3 Homing Attack until they die. Heroes' level design is perfectly fine and you're a nitpicking baby. If you're having a hard time with the physices, you either need to adapt to them and stop trying to force the game to play the way you want or you're not playing the Gamecube version and only have yourself to blame. None of the level mechanics are glitched and work just fine, so now I know you just suck. And beating the game 4 times in a row is perfectly fine. You beat it 7 times in SA1 and 3 times in SA2 and likely 3 or 4 times in S3&K. Not sure why Heroes and Advance 2 get this silly whining about that.
Stop being a whiny moron and learn how to play video games without being an inept retard.

Most of the Dreamcast talent was still around. It's just that Heroes' development sucked. They originally started work on it as a Gamecube exclusive using the same engine as SADX and SA2B, but Sega insisted it be multiplat because of deals so Sony, so the work had to be started over in a new engine and accounting for a console Sonic Team never worked with. And then the release date was so rushed Iizuka almost died from illness and lack of sleep making all the levels by himself, which is probably why the level design is so mediocre.

I genuinely didn't know you were supposed to hate Heroes until I started visiting gaming forums on the internet. I honestly thought it was fun, just worse than Adventure
Anon, Heroes was the uncontested best selling 3D game in the franchise for a whole 20 years before finally being dethroned by Frontiers. Yeah, it is a good game. You unironically just suck at it.
but then when i replayed it as an adult i realized

was pretty much true and while the first 2 or 3 levels are snappy fast and fun, it falls off cliff after like casino park
the elevators and ice shit were kind annoying, It wasn't terrible but it wasn't that enjoyable and the only zones I would put below it is the final zone(another original) and mirage saloon(pre plus because act 1 was terrible in base game)
Most of the people who bitch about 3d Sonic games play them like Arin from gamegrumps, they don't want to take the time to learn them and blame their scrub ass on the game itself. Arin made it to Egg Emperor in Heroes and he still didn't know what levels were. Actual shitters.
The game is better than sonic shitventure 2 because it let me play speed characters 90% of the time instead of bloating the game with shitty tails and knuckles missions.
>hold B button and watch a 3 minute cutscene of your characters grinding on rails because they got rid of rail physics >they call this a "level"
was it too hard for them to actually make good level design in this "game"
>they got rid of rail physics
What are you talking about? Rail switching is just as busted in SA2. Try that shit in Final Rush. It only got fixed from the Edgehog onward.

They didn't change them though. Final rush was on a steep incline while the rails in the canyon vary from flat to sloping. That's all.

I've lived in a 3rd world shithole for my whole life so at the time I didn't know about various popular vidya review magazines and all that jazz.
You unironically just suck at it.
this is one of those games i liked as a kid only to find out that people hate it when i finally got internet as a teenager/adult
Damn, same.
same
but then when i replayed it as an adult i realized
was pretty much true and while the first 2 or 3 levels are snappy fast and fun, it falls off cliff after like casino park
Yeah, 100% true. Detractors were filtered. Shadow was when it really went to crap, this game rocked.
Post jam-fus
This, but also the jungle one. Love listening to that song when it rains.
Fuck the trial room at the end but this jam never stops
I love almost everything about Sonic Heroes except actually playing it.
I like playing as sonics retard friends, fucking sue me
Dogshit game and the true beginning of Sonic's long decline.
>LION KING
How's the mod scene?
Have they uplifted the PC version to the GC level yet, at least?
>Japanese kana and kanji sonic logo
Holy cursed
wheres the kanji
Only way to enjoy Heroes is to just beat Team Sonic then watch the cutscenes on YouTube.
Mania wasn't interesting in the slightest
>the highest-rated sonic game in history wasn't interesting (>inb4 CD; it wouldn't hold up today)
not sure if trolling or just retarded.
mania was highly rated because it copy pasted games that were highly rated. most of the original shit wasn't very good besides studiopolis
How was press garden not good?
the elevators and ice shit were kind annoying, It wasn't terrible but it wasn't that enjoyable and the only zones I would put below it is the final zone(another original) and mirage saloon(pre plus because act 1 was terrible in base game)
This game is a heavy contender for top 10 sonic games (including spin-offs, of course) for me
Most of the people who bitch about 3d Sonic games play them like Arin from gamegrumps, they don't want to take the time to learn them and blame their scrub ass on the game itself. Arin made it to Egg Emperor in Heroes and he still didn't know what levels were. Actual shitters.
It’s flawed but the concept is interesting enough for a sequel
The game is better than sonic shitventure 2 because it let me play speed characters 90% of the time instead of bloating the game with shitty tails and knuckles missions.
>Oh the last truly good and interesting Sonic gam-
>press Y
>let go of analog stick and hold jump button
>nudge stick gently to the side and land on adjacent rail
There, was it so hard?
>hold B button and watch a 3 minute cutscene of your characters grinding on rails because they got rid of rail physics
>they call this a "level"
was it too hard for them to actually make good level design in this "game"
>they got rid of rail physics
What are you talking about? Rail switching is just as busted in SA2. Try that shit in Final Rush. It only got fixed from the Edgehog onward.
I said rail physics not rail switching, keep up
>rail physics
They didn't change them though. Final rush was on a steep incline while the rails in the canyon vary from flat to sloping. That's all.
>They didn't change them though
do you actually play the games at all? KEK, Sa2 rails are completely different from Heroes rails and is still the only game to do them right.
>flick analog stick right and hit jump
>shoot past the neighboring rail and fly out of bounds at mach 3
Wow, it works marvelously.
dude no one is talking about rail switching, are you a esl or something?
Heroes turns 20 in December.
Don't want to play as Sonic.
Don't want to play as Knuckles.
Don't want to play as a sissy girl either.
