They should have made that map interactive like in SMW1, I don’t get the point to select stages by menu when you have an incredible world map like that.

Also that change is cool but it would have been greater if you could choose the one you prefer (same problem with SMW1 when you finish the special stages)

Mario 3 had better overworld maps with the battles, music boxes, pipe traveling and strategic rock busting. Smw overworld reeks of low effort, the switches are lame. Dkc3 had the best overworld on snes.

Don't act like SMW overworld wasn't great

Yoshi's Island had a more fleshed out "world map" in the beta / prototype versions.

        That shit looks comfy

If that was how it looked in the gba remake, you’d call it soulless.

I'd imagine if every world was like this it would take away too much memory for the actual levels, or were we just not worthy?

I wish there was a proper late snes Mario title. SMW is okay but boy does it get outclassed by pretty much everything released after 1993.

This game is peak soul from the SNES era. Everything about it was great. The only shitty thing was maybe the secret water level that's a maze and the Poochie ain't stupid level. Other than that I have no issues with any of the levels.

i just got it in the mail
it was the only main series game i was missing (everdrive i have wont run it)

    i have never played it
    i have never owned it
i dont think i can bring myself to
it was my ex favorite game
she would always gloat about how snes had the best titles
and that pc engine/sega were just doing gimmicks (blood, shmup difficulty, etc) to compensate for not being actually fun

even looking at the cart itself
i feel the pit in my stomach
should i tough it out? just play rven feeling shitty? yoshi story was one of my favorite N64 titles

    >cute game with mostly playful and whimsical aesthetics
    >suddenly GODZILLA with accompanying metal soundtrack
Game can be a slog, but this fricking final battle remains my favorite in the SNES library.

Blew my mind when I first played the game. I didn't think the SNES was capable of something like that, and that surprise matched the shift in tone perfectly.
The boss fights in general were very creative.

Probably the best and most creative boss fights of any game. I don't think I disliked any of them. They always had a cool gimmick and got progressively more difficult as the game went on.

It's definitely creative. Too bad once you figure out you just gotta camp on top of a peg and wait for him to stop on the opposite end, the fight becomes a joke.

the only thing I dislike about Yoshi's Island is the extremely repetitive soundtrack, since there's only like 5 songs
