This is the kind of game you get when AAA tries making a early access game

    What went so wrong?

take everything that went wrong with ME Andromeda and replace ME Andromeda with Anthem.
but the tl;dr is ceo autism preventing devs from playing destiny/warframe and learn from them plus the fact they kept changing what the game was every few months invalidating hundreds of hours of work.
it was so bad that the game was announced with a different title than what the devs thought, so much so they had the wrong name on the promotional shirts at E3.
Also the game barely existed before that announcement, most devs learned there was flying in it at that same E3.

tho i will say, considering how the game was basically made in a year and a half and just how much was stacked against them the game was comparatively pretty good, they especially nailed the shooting mechanics. Shame the game was empty, with crappy ui and crappier loot (remember the starting gun being the strongest weapon in the game?), so it didn't live

        Good summary
Actually couldve been pretty cool if the devs had gotten to, you know, make it. Core mechanics of flying and shooting were very fun

lol i must of missed this detail back then. What was the original game name?

          Beyond
it was changed because it was too hard to trademark. they pretty much changed it right before the announcement, i mean mere days

Just compare Anthem start and Palwords start
      Anthem
      >movies cutscenes, cutscenes, cutscenes,
      >ugly negresses talking heads
      >tutorial hand holding with more movie cutscenes
WTF? When "yassss queens!" would stop lecturing me on white male privilege and diveristy and i can start to play?
And this intro very probably had more budget that whole Palworld

      Palrworld:
      >after 10 seconds intro you are dropped straight into full gameplay

tbh OP, Anthem turned out to be such a big nothing I'll be surprised if you can even get a decent thread shitting on it. Is there enough to talk about to hit bump limit?

Is it getting a rerelease and this is marketing, or did an eceleb make a video essay on it?

Wasn't this game made in like 11 months or something? I know it was officially in development for 6 years but they threw out and restarted work a lot iirc.

Anyone with half a brain had one fully raised eyebrow when promo material showed gameplay with insane draw distances. We all knew consoles lacked the power to do it, but it was fun to imagine.

    >warframe is super popular and makes a lot of money. why don't we have our own warframe?
    >put those homos at bioware on it.
    and that's how Anthem began

actually the game was always meant to be multiplayer, although it started as a 4 men coop survival game where you were meant to fight against hostile weather that could seriously wreck your shit.
EA ironically were the heroes in this tale, whipping Bioware into shape because they just kept changing the game's direction. the only reason there is flying in the game is because, after an EA suit told them the game was shit, they decided to present a mockup for the flying gimmick and he liked it.
that same mockup ended up being the announcement trailer btw.

      lol brutal

I wonder who at the company thought going forward with this kind of a situation was a smart idea. It blows my mind how many devs are NPC weak homosexuals

the problem is that tripleA's environment is draconian with a ridiculously high turnover rate and there are so many people no one knows the full picture at any point. in Anthem's cases it was so bad some devs would work for months on a thing only to be told said thing was scrapped entirely.
plus, most devs come out of training courses set by the same corporations so they can be molded into cogs for the tripleA machine.
i remember Ancel quitting ubisoft because the new devs ubisoft gave him literally did not understand the concept of a game not having towers and random loot.

      >Anthem threads keep popping up
      >a game nobody has thought or cared about in years
Is it getting a rerelease and this is marketing, or did an eceleb make a video essay on it?

i just find the behind the scenes of this game particularly fascinating, tho i didn't make the thread

lol wtf, seriously. Insane. We need to start purging game devs. It is obvious most devs in the AAA scene deserve to be executed as they aren't human

Not him but in Canada overwhelming majority of teachers when it comes to video game design are ex Ubisoft cuckolds. Every cancuck dev is being taught by a homosexual who was shitting out braindead formulaic open world asset flips for years.

Why when Bioware designs actually good gameplay they frick up like everything else but when gameplay especially combat sucks fricking balls they get stuff right? Both Anthem and Andromeda are their best games from gameplay perspective but everything else around it is insanely dogshit but then you have their other games where its other way around.

I'm still surprised they didn't turn into a f2p with microtransactions out the ass with all the colors and textures they had for everything.
I guess designing a looter shooter where the first gun you get is literally the best was too damaging and irreparable to salvage

Unfortunate about the rest of the game though

i'm honestly surprised how good the base movement and shooting felt, but yes, everything else was just fricking awful.
it's a shame because i think the game could've actually been engoodened, the base was solid

vaguely recalling some somber ass blogpost where bioware was going sometime before anthems release where they admitted mass effect andromeda didn't do that good and they saying some shit that basically amounted to "We don't know if we we'll ever get to make another Mass effect game again, the series is going on ice for the foreseeable future" and then less than a year later after anthem struggles they act like they didn't have that melodramatic statement about Mass effects future.

Did this happen or is my brain making this up?

i recall something like that, but it was always obvious "mass effect 4" was their panic button for when things would've looked grim

      >i remember Ancel quitting ubisoft because the new devs ubisoft gave him literally did not understand the concept of a game not having towers and random loot.

eh, wrecking some cogs ain't gonna stop crappy machines from being built. pubic trading needs to go so that companies are not required to have the line constantly go up for any positive change to happen first.
