Online TCGs, especially MTG arena, are the worst dollars, to content ratio of any video game ever.
We shit on AAA garbage robbing us of our money but this is far worse if you truly understand the economy.

Not a TCG bud there's no trading.
You trade real money and instead of something with real value that you can sell later, you get nothing in return and you will like it :^)
MTG Arena is Free-to-Play.
It's not 'bad value' but rather it's 'OP is an MTX whore' this time.
MTG arena is pay to win. Draft is absurdly expensive. If you are bored of your deck and want to try something new, you will have to pay out the ASS if you want it to be a real deck.
May as well get into the card game then and have physical stuff
Not that it'll retain its value but you're trading paper for paper instead of for 1s and 0s
MtG meta is for rich idiots
You can have more fun not being sweaty chasing the meta and playing casually
Or if you're playing MTGA just play a competitive video game like a moba or fps
you cant play mtg arena casually coming from a 5 year mtg arena player.
Even in casual mode 80% of people play variants of top meta decks.
The weekly free modes can be fun, but unlike Hearthstone, they did not go all in on them. The game had Historic format all cards available unlimited play for like two weeks before the last update. It has ways to have fun, but any real constructed mode is a nightmare to build for if you aren’t intentionally using the easiest to build decks
Like any f2p game, it is almost good, but it is bogged down by trash upon trash. Learn to accept the most budget mega-list for your deck, start grinding in it, or shell out big like a sucker
I miss magic duels.
not defending WOTC, in fact I fucking hate them
that said, I went infinite in arena ages ago. Basically every time a new set comes out I can buy 100 packs easily for free
You are talking about draft?
If so how does one get good at draft?
I know there are short summary guides, each time a new set comes out, but fundamentally there is so much knowledge I am missing out on .
You don't need to draft. It's quite simple math really. 5 wins a day + daily nets you on average 1300 gold - you can do this in bo1 in like 25 minutes.
A new set comes out every 3 months. 3 months is on average 92 days. 92 x 1300 = around 120k. 120 packs.
I have 200k gold in the bank, 4 historic decks. 3 standard decks, and 20 rare wild cards and around 28 mythic cards. I never spent 1 cent on the game
>never spent 1 cent
>play every single day
>92 days straight
>got sick? too bad
But yeah... congrats on you.
>that said, I went infinite in arena ages ago. Basically every time a new set comes out I can buy 100 packs easily for free
Elaborate
Not him but it's not hard, you just build a BO1 Historic deck that scams wins to get your daily wins done. I used Minion of the Mighty.deck personally.
For color quests just make a deck filled with 1 drops of that color, play 3 turns and concede.
I quit because I realized I was grinding to keep up on a game that was no longer good to play. MTG has long since jumped the shark on the quality of their 60 card constructed formats.
The only thing WOTC cares about is Commander
That's not really what "going infinite" means
MTG gameplay is shit anyway so you're not missing out on anything
I just got into MtGA and I enjoy it, but I'm not going to buy anything or try to make the best decks. I'll probably grow to hate it if I just lose constantly using the preconstructed decks though
Let me boil down current constructed MTG for you
>Go first, win
>In the case that you didn't win and you're both entering topdeck mode, the first person to draw 2 lands in a row loses.
MTG is a skill intensive game but it's not skill rewarding.
Makes sense, it'll be fun for as long as I can put up with it at that point.
And I get it, there's always a best answer given your situation but it's largely luck, like any card game I guess
Bo3 is 100000% more skill intensive than Bo1
Sure once you've accepted that 80% of your win chance in BO3 is determined by the matchup.
well yea you need to have a good sideboard.
Good sideboards are a thing of the past. Every card now does so much that it's impossible to have silver bullet cards that will save you from your bad matchups.
That's really all there is wrong with modern magic. The cards do too much.
Miss a land drop? Dead
No on curve play? Dead
Every deck is just a different flavor of midrange
I tried playing on my phone and the whole thing shit itself. I have the new Galaxy.
>especially MTG arena, are the worst dollars, to content ratio of any video game ever.
Weird, I've been playing it for 0 dollars and 0 cents for years now
>spending money on mtga
lol just get good at drafting. i haven't spent a penny on this game and i've been able to fill out the last 10 or so sets and buy a battle pass for each one with just the rewards from limited
idk how anyone can shit on arena when paper magic is a gorillion times more expensive
Because paper magic has resell value, sometimes even increasing value. It's horribly expensive, but at the very least you can recoup some losses if you want to get out. Every cent spent on arena is gone.
They have shut down numerous MTG titles, there is no way I am investing in a MTG economy unless its paper.
