Our tale begins here, in the quiet fishing village of Easthaven. One of the so-called "Ten Towns" of Icewind Dale, the tiny community is hardly a town, but rather a collection of ramshackle huts crowded together upon the icy shores of Lac Dinneshere. Here within a dimly lit tavern, a group of travelers sit huddled around a table, swapping tales and making grand plans for the future, completely unaware of the part they are to play in the events that are about to unfold.

Comfy beginning but gets tedious later
no it doesn't
>let's take the worst aspect out of BG and turn it into a new franchise
what the fuck were they thinking?
Party building?
no, awful real time with pause dungeon slog
shut the fuck up
moron
JANITOR WE HAVE A PROBLEM
found the lariamoron
>if you don't like dungeonslop you're a lariamoron
smartest icewind dale fan
Why did you put the word "slop" at the end of the word "dungeon" without a space? Are you attempting to pretend that is a word?
I just made it the fuck up, what you gonna do about it dungeonslopper?
Be highly unconvinced by your rhetoric I imagine.
>Go into thread about dungeonslop
>Mad everyone is talking about dungeonslop
>Tell based dungeonslop ignorers that they shouldn't say the word "dungeonslop" because it hurts your feelings
>Accidentally turn dungeonslop into a real meme
What did he mean by this?
>go into thread about thing
>tell everyone there how he's too busy ignoring thing
Exactly how related are your parents?
>Unironically enjoying Dungeonslop
>dungeonslop
Name a single good RPG that doesn't have dungeons. I'll wait.
>Name a single good RPG that doesn't have dungeons. I'll wait.
Name a single good RPG.
Name a single RPG
Groovy!
Boomer shooters are just simplified real time dungeonslop
>it is another imbecile too stupid to time his fireballs crying about rtwp
You don't need the slog of turn based, you just need to imagine where the enemy is going to be, not where he is, and point there, retard.
thanks for all the larian chudslop we get now
hello. I'm late to this thread but I think you should take the time to have a nice day.
This is like when they made the Deus ex game and shat all over the original game only to make an absolute abortion of a prequel.
I hate to say it but Ion Storm Austin had already shat over the original game and killed the franchise. If anything Human Revolution/Mankind Divided were improvements, and I hate saying that since they've only get a tenth of the originals depth
>with pause
w-with what?
It's ok, you were right, the others they just couldn't accept it
YIKES
>t. didn’t buff before battles
>>let's take the worst aspect out of BG
Writing? Characters?
No, battles. By far.
>Icewind Dale
>Writing
I don't like it when games make me create an entire party. Coming up with a name for one guy is hard enough.
Yeah companions are an important part of these kind of games.
Having the option to make more characters for the party if you want should always be there but having to create the party from scratch in IWD was a bit too much.
It also puts off people not confident with the game/system.
I'm sure there were premade characters you could import
Dongus
Bongus
Grongus
Mungus
Hungus
Garfulungus
There, easy. Now, it's gaming time.
the Garfulungus got me. Nice one anon!
It's because of brainlets like you that we don't get more rpg's that allow one to create entire parties, and are deliberately made for that.
I'm so fucking tired of shitty developers OCs revolving around your braindead standard MC.
it's not brainlets it's just that that custom party members you can create are always just non-characters compared to an actual written party member.
Think of a word/idea/concept. Look it up in another language, like latin or something. Change a letter or two and sound it out until it feels like a fantasy name. Ezpz. You’ve got a name, and maybe a bit of hidden subtext in it relating to your characters.
Alternately you can just look up names from another continent/culture and use those.
Example: Dambudzo (female african name meaning Problem Child)
we already have a word for problematic africans tho
I suggest picking your portrait, then trying to guess a "culture" off that then go look up some archaic names from it for inspiration.
Name them all after their profession
the game literally starts you with 6 default characters you can pick from
Same here but because my creativity goes downhill. If I have to create just one guy for an RPG I look at multiclass combinations, feats, abilities spells etc. and try to come up with something interesting. If I have to make a full party its classic fighter-cleric-wizard-thief with cookie cutter skills and stats
just make a single character an go solo. worst part is games that force two characters though
>I don't like it when games make me create an entire party.
Literally the only way that Baldur's Gate 2 is playable
Just do what I do, when creating any name in any game:
>Mash the keyboard
uvkulwbclkevu
>Arrange into first name and last name, if needed
uvkul wbclkevu
>Add/remove consonants for legibility (you may also shift parts around a bit)
Yuchul Webellcurve
>Remove accidentally created nouns and remash
Yuchul ohgklbvfgyj
>Repeat steps until finished
Yuchul O'Higglyf
But the you'd just end up with polish names every time
No, Welsh ones too.
custom entire parties suck because custom companions are always just generic cardboard cutouts.Defined party members are superior.
Yeah it gets pretty overwhelming and I just stop playing entirely + refund. Like don't shove 10 fucking characters in my face and say "Alright now choose their stats and abilities and equipment and names and portraits and" like fuck me I haven't even played yet, how am I supposed to know which abilities are worthless or semi-decent?
The fuck are you talking about? Making a party is fun in Icewind dale. I even came up with a brief lore for my characters
>I even came up with a brief lore for my characters
Gayest thing I've ever read
>He doesn't come up with backstories for the party
Here's the sort of game you'd prefer, anon.
>Gayest thing I've ever read
As expected from a guy that doesn't have even an ounce of creativity and expects to be spoonfed all the time.
Baldurs Gate thread is a few clicks away, you can read lots of homosexual shit in there
Nah, dude. Icewind dale is superior precisely because it expunged most the gay rp shit.
>make entire party custom
>half die the first fight anyways because old school DnD was shit
sucks to suck
That was one of my favorite parts of the Kingmaker DLC. You make an entire party and send them into an endless dungeon. I made tons of parties with backstories and ways to complement (or not) each other. If you could use AI voice tech to make them speak I'd say fully custom party RPGs are the future.
Chom
I need to read the Icewind Dale books again.
As someone who has read too many Forgotten Realms books, no you don't. Read something better. Read the Discworld books or something.
>implying I haven't already
So how we feeling about BG2 still being the undisfuckingputed king of crpgs 22 years later?
And about Larian skull fucking its corpse to make divinity orignal sin 3?
And about how none of the companions are even remotely likeable?
This is an Icewind Dale thread.
did that dwarf die to the bunch of goblins past the first bridge?
Kingsmaker was above average, solid contender for a top 3, not even close to being as good as bg2 or planescape tho.
Meme of the righteous was a piece of shit.
Heart attack.
damn look at those portrait milkers
Dale portraits have a lot of it
Soul.
I'm ok with it because the story of Baldur's Gate ended in ToB, anything after is pure fan fiction just like the extra stuff they added in EE.
Also there's a BG thread here
>Divinity Original Sin 3
I fucking wish.
Pathfinder's better.
>So how we feeling about BG2 still being the undisfuckingputed king of crpgs 22 years later?
Meds this instat.
It was already trash even when it came out.
keep coping turn base moron
>turn base
You mean like actual D&D and not some butchered abomination?
>DnD is turn based because the DM can't possibly parse all the actions happening simultaneously so it uses that to abstract a real battle
>A computer has no need for such an abstraction since it can handle simultaneous turns, and so it presents the battle as exactly as DnD is meant to represent
This retard actually imagines fights with everyone sitting around taking turns
>So how we feeling about Planescape Torment still being the undisfuckingputed king of crpgs 22 years
fixd
>And about Larian skull fucking its corpse to make divinity orignal sin 3?
eh. They toned down a lot of the elemental stuff during early access.
Also it's a shame that they're doing a d&d game. OS was such a nice break from d&d games with it having more ultima/magic candle influences and no diceroll stuff only with srpg combat. I want more of that. d&d inherently has some issues when trying to adapt it to video game form. If we could get a better-written OS-like without Diablo loot I'd love it.
WoTR dethroned BG2
WoTR > BG2 > Kingmaker > ToB > BG1 > IWD2 > IDW1 > Divinity 2 > Divinity 1 > PoE 1 > PoE 2
>PoE 2 ranked lowest
Kys tasteless scum.
>shartfire anywhere else than at the bottom
My main problem with the game is that they involved Mincs and Jaheira and maybe Viconia.. these characaters should not be touched the story of bhalspawn is over and my decisions should not be changed by some fag in larian studio.
WotC did kind of already fuck with them first to be fair.
Wrath of the Righteous is a lot better in some ways, but BG2 definitely does other stuff better even to the day like companions, explorable areas, most importantly magic.
BG3 feels like a completely different game, OS3 isn't even a meme it does look and feel like that 100%.
>Wrath of the Righteous is a lot better in some ways
way to out yourself owlchud
>So how we feeling about BG2 still being the undisfuckingputed king of crpgs 22 years later?
But that's wrong. Here's a sample list of CRPGs that are better than BG2:
>ToEE
>PoE
>Strahd's Possession
>NWN2: MotB
>Underrail
>IWD2
>Dungeon Rats
>EoB2
You got to be trolling...PoE...ToEE, have you even played those games?
Both utterly fantastic games that feel like a joy to play. ToEE even looks fantastic even with unmodified graphics.
First Baldur's Gate is best Baldur's Gate. Bioware can't write for shit. That was apparent right from the beginning, and BG2 was also the start of the romance cancer and all the edgedark bullshit that infects everything now and Bioware particularity.
I've always wanted to try Icewind Dale because it looks beautiful but man, I wish there were companions and whatnot. I'm not sure if I would enjoy a game so focused on the combat.
Instead of companions it has class and race reactivity, which BGs lack.
There's a mod that gives you companions. I played it and it was solid.
hello femanon, are you single?
Last party I beat this with
Diviner
Fighter/Cleric
Barbarian
Thief
Sorcerer
Bard… I forget what the bard subclass was but the freaking bard made the game extremely easy, more so than normal.
>Why yes I do enjoy Icewind Dale, how could you tell?
This guy with the "RAAAARRH" voice is always my party leader
Holy soul. They really don't make em like they used to.
>THAC0
>he doesn't like THAC0
I wish more RPGs went for this low level adventurer atmosphere. I hate what happened to the genre, everything has to be epic and banal nowadays.
I used 1H with the voice that has, "Half the loot is mine." It's my image of dickass thief these days.
all ugly motherfuckers, I would never be able to play this game
no, I will not go to dougan's hole
B2, my beloved
B2 and B3 have been in all of my playthroughs. The party just doesn't feel complete without them.
For me, it's C3
**Fuck I meant C2
Too late. C3 is ready for snu-snu
why do these portait games never have a fucking option that wears full armor/robes and a helmet that covers the face so you can imagine the character looks however you want
There are usually several, but only for dudes.
They're there under men.
Given it doesn't matter either way just use them for women.
Scrimshaw?
It starts off great but I always drop off halfway through the game because there's really nothing to do but kill enemies.
>look through my collection of anime girls holding weapons
>pick suitable portraits for every character according to her class
>Icewind Dale, NWN2: Storm of Zehir, or Kingmaker/WotR with all mercs
it's gaming time
I hit a glitch when resting outside the orc cave at the beginning quest, where they rested for 129 days for some reason. So they came back months later to report the caravan had been destroyed. They must have had like five other caravans in that time.
If you have no healing magic and have rest until healed in options turned on.
>Easy as goblin pie.
the best line from any CRPG
>Sacrifice? Let me say this of "sacrifice", *young* one. Then we shall speak of this no more. Sacrifice is a death that has meaning. When it is in vain, it is not sacrifice. It is a *waste*. *That* is the lesson of Jerrod's Stone.
>the voice pack that's just screaming and roaring
i hate these crpg games. i dont wanna play 6 people at the same time
Just imagine you're the leader, and in battle you give orders to everyone else
Use brain
6 people at the same time, man!
>As for the demon, BELHIFET - he was banished! Back to the depths of Hell, where he languished for a period of a hundred years! Tormented by the memory of his mistakes, and waiting for the day when he could exact his revenge!
God bless David Ogden Stiers for his narration in this.
New face in town, eh?
IE killed CRPGs and introduced a ton of casual shit eaters to the genre.
>t. Got filtered by the mage at the Friendly Arm Inn
No one has ever been filtered by an IE game. They are made for women and other assorted casuals.
The game had good music but hearing the epic battle music hard cut in at every little critter I aggroed was a bit much. I had to turn off the music for my sanity
Soule
god I love those osts... bg1,2 and iwd were my childhood
I remember playing this as a kid.
It was the first time I learned of savescumming.
I killed that village mayor/sheriff kind of guy in the building, gave all his loot to 1 guy, imported that guy into a different save, and started over.
Felt like such a fucking genius. Breezed through the entire game because of his nice equipment
I never played Heart of Winter, is it good?
it's pretty good, yeah. If you liked the base game you'll most likely enjoy HoW
What tale? There's hardly a fucking tale at all.
I still loved it, bought the EE and got all of the steam achievements
Fucking retard right here. Close your browser and fuck off.
Pomab can go fuck himself
I always preferred the second over the first for some reason, very comfy series
Heard only good things about BG/IWD except the game itself just isnt fun.
Is IWD's encounter design better than the Baldur Gate games? I know it's mostly a combat game compared to BG, but if it's just 20 hours of cheese-or-die I'm not going to get it.
It sounds like you're asking if it's easier, if so yes.
>It sounds like you're asking if it's easier
Pretty much. I'm not a fan of a game dropping 6 wolfweres on a level 4 party, or having 3 party members gibbed to lightning in the first town.
Just quick load bro
I wanted to play bg1 and 2 before 3 comes out but I bet they are so clunky…
How do I play bg1 as it was originally published?
By playing the originally published BG1.
Right, how?
Reminder that IWD2:EE is coming soon
I hope they spent some effort making the game better since IWD2 is the weakest IE game.
IWD2 is actually the best IE game though.
kys turdie
Gold box is a way better option for 2e games than any of the infinity engine ones. RTWP doesn't really work without attacks of opportunity as it easily just becomes a kitefest.
Icewin dale 2 was better. More roleplay and more option.
Why does that image flicker when I scroll over it?
Works on my machine
Dithering fog.
1080p is too far out. 720p is perfect.
>turd edition
way to out yourself as as pozfinder chud
Did you carry the dead cats with you till the end?
Black Isle Studios shut down a year after release. So Boomers who blame Zoomers for everything bad can go suck a dick. They didn't buy good games either.
It's good but I kind of hate 3E multiclassing. It is so imba and having aasimar paladin1/sorcerers and shit feels wrong.
Comfiest start to any RPG ever
Just a reminder to make a Paladin your party leader.
He has some extra dialogue
yeah graphic description sucking dick, like all paladins
love IWD
wanna get kuldahar big tree tat on my back
I need to finish the game, I was in the middle of some hard ass dungeon in that expansion area.
many such cases
alright I'm pretty much completely new to this genre. only played Fallout 1 & 2 so far
- Diablo
- Baldur's Gate
- Planescape Torment
- Icewind Dale
- Arcanum
which of these are actually good and with which should I start
I hope the thread dies before anyone gives you an answer
how so
I just don't really like you.
Start with BG
Diablo isn't exactly an RPG, it's what they call an Action RPG, almost entirely devoted to action.
I'd probably start with BG 1 & 2 or Icewind Dale 1 & 2, then move on to Planescape Torment and lastly either Arcanum and/or Diablo,
Start with the Greeks
I'm on the same boat so I'll bump because I'm interested, i didn't like RTwP in DA:O nor PoE but i might be just dumb and not getting gud
I can personally vouch for BG, PS;T & IWD.
I've heard good things about Arcanum though.
Just dive in really. I'd start with IWD since it's the least story-driven of the 3 then do PS:T since it's the most, before rounding off with BG which gets the perfect balance of the two.
>I've heard good things about Arcanum though.
It's great for roleplaying and dialogue, but the combat is absolutely terrible. Good thing you can just cheese it.
They're all good.
Also add Icewind Dale 2 and BG 2 to list.
Icewind Dale is the only actually good game there.
PoE2 is wasted potential, outside of the superb mechanics it just doesn't offer enough stuff to do. PoE on the other hand should be nowhere near the bottom of any list, as the completed version of the game is one of the best CRPGs ever and certainly the best RTWP one.
Morrowind
All of them
>Use Console to tweak up to 3rd level to represent being a semi-experienced party
>Give every character one (1) magic item of value equivalent to a +1 item or less with the leader being allowed a +2 item
>Start with 3 diamonds to sell off
>Use save editor to go for blood red major, black minor
The Brotherhood Scarlet are back on the menu lads.
Not even going to apologize, getting gangbanged by goblins with bows out the gate is some bullshit and you can usually get to level 2 just by fannying about in town anyway if you fanny thoroughly enough. Plus how the fuck did our heroes get to Easthaven when they're complete mooks to start with?
>I cheat but it's okay because I say so
ok chief
you didn't beat the game though
>Implying I've not done multiple playthroughs
Bitch I owned a copy of IWD when it first came out.
I've enjoyed the game from the demo stage. I've beaten it more times than your parents beat you.
How are the 3e mods for BG, good to use or ham-fisted and unfinished?
Nothing against THAC0 I'm just more knowlegable about how classes work in 3rd
For me, it's Pillars of Eternity 1 & 2.
I liked Poe1 but just couldn't get into the whole pirate shit theme of 2. Am I missing a lot?
There's a lot to like about Deadfire but a lot to dislike too. It isn't just "we're pirates now!", the Deadfire as a setting is pretty varied in terms of factions and cultures. I loved getting to see the Royal Deadfire Company and the Rauataian culture in their settlement. Also, Neketaka is a cool city. But like others have said before, the game doesn't stick the landing, there's an issue with the pacing of the acts that makes the "point of no return" appear way too early (kinda like Cyberpunk). Also the DLC was nowhere near as good as The White March was in POE. I enjoyed my time playing it but because of the above issues I probably won't replay it any time soon, whereas I've replayed POE twice and could do it again right now.
No. It's a disappoint shitshow lacking a real soul, and they did not bring Durance back, even when they could have. What's more, because some people were apparently offended by him, he's been made into a joke that nobody respects or likes. While latter is expected, since nobody could really like Durance, but he did deserve his bit of respect for what he'd done. And they fuck up his characterization too, even though he does not appear, by not making him NEAR the fucking Godhammer Bomb on the bridge. How the fuck did his soul get a burn he's nursing in PoE 1 if he was just watching it happen from miles away? Fucking hacks
Has anyone here got access to the fan-made IWD2EE? Please upload that shit on the internet.
I sent these fuckers my GitHub on the Beamdog forum but got no answers.
That project is still alive?
I'm not sure, but I heard it's playable from start to finish without any major bugs. There are some playthroughs on yt.
There's a fanmade IWD2EE? I thought the source code was lost years ago.
hence the fanmade
Does IWD have the same class/spell selection as BG2 or is it different in some way?
>Does [DnD game] have the same class/spell selection as [DnD game] or is it different in some way?
It's a legitimate question, most DnD games reduce the systems in various ways.
It's the same, though IIRC the sorcerer class was added in Heart of Winter.
Much the same. You can actually replace the spell animations from BG/BG with the better ones from IWD.
It has a couple BG2 doesn't have, but the level cap is lower so it also doesn't have all the later level spells
thanks
>I'm retarded
thanks for letting us know
Sheldarine
The SPINE of the world.
There he is
>The silent blade cuts best.
The mage.
For me, it was Paladin/Sorcerer + The Holy Avenger
Classic
They say history is the greatest of all teachers.
