Dark souls 3
This, and also the most linear/simplified/soulless one.
linear =/= bad
this and this is why
still a good game though
I honestly loved DS3 but since OP took the easy answer of DS2 out of the running, this is the weakest of what we're left with.
Welp. I don't need to be here anymore.
Good thread folks.
Elden Ring
Elden Ring
2, no contest
Its still Dark Souls 2. It was my introduction to Souls. I liked DS1 but thought it was just Okay. Ds3 wasnt anything special.
ER, BB, Sekiro, and Demon’s Souls range from enjoyable to amazing
Sekiro is the only bad one
ER is unironic gentile feed
ER feels like the type of game someone who hasn’t played or appreciated DS1 or BB would just fall in love with. It feels like their most superficial project
>Worst
Dark souls 2. Simply because whenever I tried to roll it would teleport me right onto the sword of the enemy. But after leveling agility the game was a cheese up untill I fought fume knight. Which was the only boss where I have to change my attack style. Dark souls 2 was made by nerdy devs who played the first DS1 and thought 'now that was a clever comeback, an enemy that only attacks when you pick the item, lets put more gotya moments in the DS2.' and the entire game is just gotya moments.
>oh no i cant spam roll to win anymore FRICK
>Dark souls 2. Simply because I saw that one Pursuer webm so many times that I internalised it as a false memory
the pursuer webm is a pretty accurate representation of how grabs are in dks2, though.
not actually an example of a bad hitbox as many people seem to think.
>the pursuer webm is a pretty accurate representation of how grabs are in dks2, though.
Not even close, you're just trash and you got filtered.
Grabs are like that in all souls games brainlet
Dark Souls 2
demon souls is the most bland souls game. ds2 would be shittier but it actually felt soulful with so much new stuff that eventually made its way back to elden ring. demon souls isn't bad, just meh
DS2 is the only fun fromslop game
2 by far, the only game in the series with literally broken controls
>intentional turncap nerfs to balance the weapon
>ITS LITERALLY BROKEN CONTROLS
you are actually moronic
>DUUUUDE ITS INTENTIONAL THE BROKEN DEADZONE ADDS TO THE GAMES ATMOSPHERE
>THE BROKEN ANIMATIONS OF THE ENEMIES ARE MEANT TO BE UNFINISHED
>THE HITBOXES ARE MEANT TO BE SHITTY BECAUSE THE WORLD IS DYING
Did I miss any copes?
>Im getting hit because of the broken animations and hitboxes
man, talk about cope
>I'm getting hit
implying I play this dogshit game
I legitimately cannot fathom how you get filtered by DS2 deadzones. It's some of the most fluid controls ever made and you're struggling? What e celeb tricked you idiots into thinking this was a sound argument?
>most fluid controls
>shart souls 2
lol maybe when that staydBlack person releases his ds2 mod that actually fixes the dogshit movement
Nah you're straight up mongoloided if you had even one second of challenge getting used to DS2 controls.
I did my entire first playthrough years ago without knowing about adaptability and it was atrocious, so i can understand why some people got a bad taste from the game.
On the other hand i finished the whole game and the DLC's with no adaptability so git gud homosexuals.
If 2's controls are so bad please give me at least one specific instance in where you personally got fricked over by them.
Getting a babyjump in Earthen Peak making me fall to my death because for some reason jump length is random in DaS2
That's more down to jumps having a chance of being absurdly small than the controls outright being bad because you can't exactly control jump distance without specific items afaik.
I'm also having problems with the stick response curves on the camera actually, it's infuriating. DS2 is weird
ADP and Soul Memory being good mechanics
wait, so why are there so many bloostains in that beginning area? i beat the game and never found out.
>broken
The turn cap is different for each weapon class you fricking black hole-for-a-brain. It's to prevent people from just mashing R1 brainlessly as an anti-everything field. If someone tries to spam a rapier at you you literally just roll behind them for the completely free backstab.
>deadzones
fine on my machine, also I have literally never seen a complaint about deadzones for ANY game
>broken animations
You're not wrong about those falconers, vanilla at least had the bright idea to put them where tall grass would hide their legs, I dunno why sotfs didn't do that shit
>shitboxes
recurring issue with the series
DS2 < Sekiro < EL < DS < DS3=DS1
never played bloodborne. i didn't like the setting so I never bought it.
DS2, not a bad game, just not as good as the others, boring bosses, boring levels, boring world, majula was good and the dlcs were good
Dark Souls 2
sekiro
Either DaS3 or Elden Ring.
I still like DaS3 for what it is, but it's the lowpoint of creativity for the Souls series.
Elden Ring is just as uninspired, but does have much more freedom and build variety than DaS3. And yet, I still enjoy it less.
Elden Ring.
The world sucks, that's its biggest crime.
I don’t like any of them.
Granted i havent played DS2 but if u take off ur nostalgia goggles it is easily DS1. DS1 is an absolute mess. Bloodborne gives you perspective.
DaS is a mess in a lot of ways, and DeS is bare bones, by nature of being the first of its kind, but I can't put them at the bottom because as video games they're the whole package.
DaS2 has so much more going on for it under the hood than either of its predecessors, but it doesn't do whatever it was that DaS, DeS and Bloodborne did.
DaS3 feels like a shallow retread, even though it incorporates a lot of DaS2's mechanical and gameplay improvements. It just doesn't have the magic that makes it a complete experience.
Elden Ring is guilty of this, too: it improves on DaS3 in a lot of the areas it fell down, but the experience is so sterile that I can't even bring myself to place it above DaS3, despite it being a better video game.
DeS has the advantage of much tighter level design than the others, imo. The openness of DaS allowed for a lot of unpolished stuff to seep through. Every area in release DeS is top tier.
>valley of defilement
>top tier
lol
Yes
>empty swamp with 5 foot draw distance and two shit bosses
It was ludo, you wouldn't understand
It is.
DeS might be bare bones but at least it has a very gripping atmosphere that stands the test of time and gets extra points for originality. Dark Souls on the other hand is primitive on top of being a mess. Bloodborne and on wards have improved upon every aspect of the formula. DS1 has no unique claim to anything. Level design, bosses, combat...etc the subsequent games have executed those much better. You cant even say it should be commended for being prototypical cause much of the game is merely an iteration of Demon's Souls.
No game has ever nailed the interconnection of areas as well as DS1 did. If they remake it one day and connect Tombs of the Giants with Lost Izalith and Lake of Cinder instead of just letting you see those areas from the distance that would be one of the best designed worlds ever.
There it is. The obligatory mention of DS1's interconnected world design. This has to be the most overrated feature of the entire Souls franchise. What it did was just replace intricate level design with a great sense of scale and grand set pieces with short, corridored uneventful areas that connect to other short and corridored uneventful areas. It's telling that the best designed area in DS1 is the one where they completely ditch the interconnected meme, Sen's Fortress.
I am gonna go with Elden Ring, the lore, story characters, were soul less compared to the previous games, maybe it's cuz GRRM was brought in, but I guess Miyazaki and GRRM don't mix well.
Also open world is great and all, but for multiplayer, it doesn't work well. As a single-player game it's great fun, but not as memorable as previous games to me.
I haven't played DeS or BB, but from the games I have played it has to be DS2. I had no issue with playing, enjoying, and finishing all the other games except DS2, which I still have never completed even after trying on several different occasions.
>I had no issue with eating, enjoying, and finishing all the meals (DS1/BB) and fast food trash (the others) except caviar (DS2), which I still have never completed even after trying on several different occasions.
Don't you guys realize that this just reflects poorly on you and your taste? Being bad at a game and perpetually seething about it and pretending it was awful is so fricking embarrassing.
>food analogy
Is it safe to assume then you think DS2 is the best in the series?
Because if so,
>lmao
>Dark Souls 2 good
>Elden Ring bad
Have the people who spout this shit even played these games?
elden ring. it's literally just an endless looting simulator with copy paste obstacles inbetween.
Dark Souls 2, easy. It's the only truly bad game they've made
Dark Souls 3, any. other answer is an underage shitpost
This. You have to be the biggest fricking casual ADHD zoomer moron to enjoy DS3. homosexuals who prefer it can't even go back and play the old games without screeching like fricking chimpanzees about controls.
It's Dark Souls 2, but although it's not perfect it's still worth a playthrough. I'd sooner play Dark Souls 2 again than I would Fallout 3. That game is mostly irredeemable shit.
dark souls 3
its literally fricking soulless
Never played the ones that don't have Souls in the name but seriously? No one mentioned DeS?
>80% of boss fights are meme shit
>need to grind for the basic healing item (until you finish 1-3 and suddenly get 60 full moon)
>horrible boss runbacks
>World Tendency (no need to explain)
npc moment
Dark Souls 3 by far
Dark Souls 2 is the worst
Elden Ring is the best
Dark Souls 3 has some of the better boss fights imo.
In Elden Ring, a lot of the boss fights felt too samey and that's not even counting the re-used bosses in terms of tactics.
In Dark Souls 2 the hit boxes in that game were legit broken. A lot of DS2 fans have only played the patch up but DS2 when experienced at launch was horrible.
I literally just played through unpatched DS2 on RPCS3 and the hitboxes were fine (by DS2 standards at least). Also, people have always memed about Shrine of Amana being patched to be easier but it was the fricking same. Where did this even come from?
Its not the same, the female mages' projectile used to have way better tracking. You didn't notice it but dont pretend it doesnt exist
If it was changed it was barely at all, you just learned how to deal with the area better when you replayed the game. I didn't at all going through it.
You can check the patch notes. I have nothing to gain from lying about this
>I didn't at all going through it.
didn't die at all*
Like I said I couldn't tell the difference so people obviously exaggerated this a lot then. I played it on PC and remember people making fun of how PC players would get the dumbed down SoA which is half the reason I tried playing it like this to see, so I wonder if that kind of shitposting is why it was blown out of proportion and caught on.
they used to be able to start shooting at you from just about across the map and they projectiles were faster and had better tracking.
2 < 3 < DeS < ER< Sekiro < DaS < BB
Sekiro, didn't enjoy it at all. Dark Souls 3 is very close, however.
Bloodborne ruined the entire Souls franchise forever by making it a brainless spam fest. Too bad we'll never get a Dark Souls 3 because of it, we're stuck now with Bloodborne 2 and Elden Ring, which play nothing like the original games.
Demon’s Souls was already a brainless spam fest. I absolutely hate this fricking comment. You morons praise the gameplay for Dark Souls like its the second coming when its just circle strafing, roll spam, rudimentary gameplay
>Demon’s Souls was already a brainless spam fest
*spits in your face*
I specifically never mentioned Demon Souls, have a nice day homosexual.
I brought it up to show you these games have always been like this. Fricking moron. You idiots hate BB for trying something different and seethe at how people prefer it over Souls.
>brought it up to show you these games have always been like this.
b***h frick Demon Souls and frick you.
Im glad your series is ruined.
Not him, but I'm even gladder that you're so butthurt about these games killing off whatever games you like that you're here seething about it
And this is exactly why Dark Souls 2 is the best. Somebody gets it.
Bloodborne ascended the series and made it better. Sorry you spammed R1 when you were supposed to be using trick attacks. Thats on you for being an idiot.
>Bloodborne ascended the series and made it better.
Haha, nah. They made a generic 2fast Japanese character action game.
I feel bad for you anon, you cant enjoy a phenomenal game
I feel bad for me too that I share a board with fricking morons who think bloodborne isn't absolute fricking trash gutter garbage
Moron
I feel bad for me that I share a board with you.
homosexuals
DS2 is the weakest link. You can still have fun with it, but it has the most wasted potential out of all of them by a country mile.
And love them all for different reasons, but if i need to choose one.
Dark souls 3 is the most "generic" and feels like a really well done copy of a souls game, like the surge 2 to give an example.
Dark Souls 2 thought it's still leagues better than Ninja Blade and Eternal Ring
>gives an answer that isn't an option
>thinks it's better than two games that WERE options
The frick is wrong with you?
People who dislike Dark Souls 2 frequently show significant cognitive maladaptation.
I enjoy DS3's OST more than any of the other options here, so it wins in that regard at least
>Listening to OSTs
>Even being aware that the series has music
NGMI
DS3 is my second favorite, the first is Bloodborne
Play Armored Core.
>From Software didn't exist before Demon's Souls
I would have thought it'd be Ninja Blade or that shitty Tenchu game they made.
Shadow tower Abyss and king's field 4 are utter kino you philistine.
2 is a tragedy as those guys had a big vision that the consoles couldn't hope to run
3 is just fanservice done wrong but still pretty fun
ER has a good first playthrough where you are almost pointed to 100% it or at least get close to it but the second playthrough and after it shows how shallow the world really is and you can just blitz by 80% of the content.
DS and DS1 are just near masterpieces for me, both do things better than the other but I still go back and replay to this day.
BB is also close though the chalice dungeon is a disappointment and it took dataminers to salvage it and unlike DS1 the second half of this game really does feel underwhelming at timesand the DLC really saves it.
Sekiro is a good game, not my cup of tea, but something I can respect. More so that they admitted that they were supposed to make a Tenchu game and realized half way through it strayed so far from it that it might as well be its own IP and so they did. Most try to force the fandom to accept a "new" take on something they love because they are cowardly fricks that have no faith in new ideas.
Sekiro > BB > ER > DaS III = DaS I > DaS 2
DaS 2 is the B team trash that nobody likes and only contrarians like for (You)s
>shockwaves
>humanoid enemy bosses 99% of the time
>boring level design (lake, swamps, etc)
>the WORST DLC in the series
>soul memory
DS2 had nice mix n match weapon swing order, that's about it.
This is one of the worst takes I've ever seen in my entire life
DaS2gay cope
Dark Souls 2, then Dark Souls 3 are there worst.
The worst From game is better than any AAA shit we are getting these days.
Elden ring is ported DS3 with none of the interesting design, encounters, exploration, music or bossfights. DS2 is an abortion on the same level of elden ring
>interesting design, encounters, exploration, music or bossfights
>DS3
lmao
roflmao even
You know I'm right
But i blasted like 100 hours on Meme ring and loved my time with it.
The only problem i see, like with Sekiro is that there is no replayability at all.
3 didn't have any interesting designs, exploration, encounters, nor music and only like 2-3 of the bosses were actually interesting.
Elden Ring is a really fun game and I'm glad it got made. I don't see how people can like DS3 but dislike Elden Ring if they're so similar
Because elden ring is a lazier ported DS3 into a lifeless open world with terrible bosses and music and exploration?
DS3 is totally the worst lol, some nice music and setpieces doesn't save it from having shitty magic
ER is replayable. 100 hours on first playthrough
DaS3 is just a poor man's DaS
DaS was good for its time, still worth one playthrough, but that's it
DaS2 is just dogshit
Sekiro = BB > ER > Demon’s Souls > DS1> DS3 > DS2
Elden Ring is probably the worst of them to me for reasons I've already copy pasted (just like the game lol) in these threads too often to count.
Whatever I'll do it again
>Constantly reused bosses, even major story ones. Apparently 75 of the 165 bosses in ER ar reused which is frankly staggering. Why even include that many bosses in the first place?
>Constantly recycled side dungeons like caves, catacombs, tombs and mines
>Broken enemy and boss AI which can be easily exploited with the barest of effort and completely shut off at times (Magma Wyrm just flat out stopped attacking me at times, same with Fallingstar beasts and Tree Spirits)
>Constantly recycled landmarks like towers, enemy encampments with stone staircase leading to chests, gravestones with runes on top, church with Sacred Tear in them
>Bosses with deliberately delayed and tracking attacks mid animations to catch you off guard even cancelling animations sometimes and breaking their already tenuous rules just to punish the player for no reason; very little cooldown between attack chains in general yet you still play at DS speed
>Inconsistent as frick fall damage, either no damage or an instant kill (inb4 UM ACKSHUALLY IT'S NOT BECAUSE I TESTED THE GAME FOR NINE THOUSAND HOURS AND ACCURATELY DETERMINED THE DAMAGE ZONES frick off the average player isn't going to know this)
>The same canned wildlife everywhere (two or three eagles on cliffs, tortoises (ha ha le doggo), goats even in the fricking dead zone of Caelid with horrific monstrosities
>On that note the unique mutated wildlife in Caelid popping up in the snow zone and enemies just being reused there in general
>Boss movesets and skeletons reused from older games
>Upgrade Material (1), (2), (3), (4)
>Generic soundtrack which is the one thing people raked the DeS remake over the coals for
>Bosses with deliberately delayed and tracking attacks mid animations to catch you off guard even cancelling animations sometimes and breaking their already tenuous rules just to punish the player for no reason; very little cooldown between attack chains in general yet you still play at DS speed
Hate this shit. They went from Dodge Dodge Attack to
Dodge Dodge Dodge Dodge Dodge Dodge Dodge Dodge Dodge Dodge Dodge Dodge Atack
Shits horrendous
You forgot
>Oh you want that opening player? Too bad haha I jumped a mile away...and now I'm gonna slowly pace around the arena maybe even towards you but very slowly
Just awful
Sometimes it feels like Elden Ring bosses shut their AI off until you do something: dodge, attack or heal and then they will react to you.
The boss AI just flat out turns off at times. I've had bosses just stop attacking. It's probably like you said to be reactive to the player then the game shits itself when trying to do that and just has them not attack at all.
Most of these are nitpicks or massively overblown but I will agree that fall damage seems like BS most of the time and it's the one game where I feel having an item to negate fall damage no matter what would be a good thing to have.
Anyone saying DS3 is the worst is genuinely low iq. Best music in the entire franchise.
It also had great controls. It played very nicely which was a great change from DS2, which feels like shit. I see some anons complaining about the controls, and its not that, its more like the game feels like molasses and slow. DS3 does not have this problem.
>inb4 roll souls 3 xd
Okay, if you dont want to fight more challenging/ complex/ unique bosses then keep playing the old games because they did everything they could with the speed of the old games. Thats why they changed everything
>inb4 roll souls 3 xd
Rent free, seems like you're denying reality.
You can beat all ds3 bosses without rolling pussy
>more challenging/ complex/ unique bosses
Most of 3's bosses are none of those and you gays just jerk off Gael and Soul of Cinder and call it a day.
>curse rotted greatwood
>abyss watchers
>wolnir
>nameless king
>twin princes
>dancer
these bosses are proof that ds3 has good boss design
rotted greatwood
kek, not even gonna look at the rest, "giant tree with arms" sucked ass.
since you cant read reply chains, my reason for mentioning that boss is because it has unique mechanics. weak points, dynamic boss arena, and lets not forget that freaky hand that seems really scary when it comes out in the 2nd phase, but it actually takes extra damage. that fits the criteria of a unique boss
>unique mechanics.
it's a zelda boss in dark souls, and not even a good one at that
i know you're just nitpicking now but i forgive you. plus demons souls had a good number of 'zelda' bosses too
>twin princes
I finally broke down and had to summon for these dicks.
Dark Souls 2. Ah! It wasn't good. I like the Boss Music of 3 a lot and actually put it above 1 despite everything about 1 being so iconic, the most since Mario 1
The frick is with DS3homosexuals and in game songs? You know it's a video game right?
>wtf people in this video game thread arguing about video games like video game MUSIC?????!!??!?!?!
>OK Computer by Radiohead is my favorite video game
That's u b***h
If it had gameplay it probably would be
>game has actual memorable music
>this is a bad thing
makes sense coming from an elden ring baby where you're lucky if they put in background noise
Then go ahead and mute the game, see how much you like it b***h
Dark souls 2 by far.
Anyone else play the demon's souls remake? Forgot how jank this shit was but I love it.
Almost done NG+.
gonna be honest, I haven't played it but most of what I've seen of the remake looks like crap. this scene looked way better with the blue sky with extreme bloom than this grey boring shit
It's supposed to be a "grey, colorless fog" everywhere. That was the point.
Also I'm using the classic filter that adjusts the lighting to replicate the original. It doesn't fix the art style but it's good enough for me.
>That was the point.
huh crazy how the original devs missed the whole point...
???
admittedly better, but still way less magical looking than the original version tbh
The art style doesnt need fixing
I have many nitpicks with the remake's art style and voice acting.
1. Biorr looks perfect, but sounds way more dull. In the original he went from BOMBASTIC KNIGHT to "time for a nap" in an instant and it really gave him character to just "hoah I am a knight." It's really boring.
2. False King Allant looks and sounds as menacing as a geriatric frick with a walker now.
3. Boletaria, the country all about military might now looks weirdly resplendent. The utilitarian architecture has been replaced with palace-like furnishings just to show off the PS5's graphical power.
4. The ghostly, ethereal atmosphere is gone. Latria is simply not scary anymore, the sound effects sounds way less mystical and more generic fantasy game.
5. The music is abysmal, full stop. The nexus practically doesn't have music. The somber piano keys don't play anymore. Don't get me started on Garl/Astraea's theme.
Agreed wholeheartedly, but I still think it's decent. It's still demon's souls, I'm enjoying it, but it's way less memorable.
All of them are good
i hate the des remake. the designers shat the bed and didnt nail the aesthetic right
DaS2 has the worst fanbase reaction to it's kino adventure. The worst souls game is Dark Souls 2 first playthrough.
Some kind anon once posted an evaluation of dark souls 2 and why it seems so strangely designed and otherworldly, more so than the others. Long story short it's a "mirror world", a reflected version of the real one which is why things seemed familiar but "off". He referred to it as an underworld in the classical sense. Wish I saved the post, it was very well written.
I still think dark souls 2 is the worst one. That doesn't make it a bad game.
Best
>Dark Souls 3
>Elden Ring
>Bloodborne
>Dark Souls 2
>Dark Souls
Worst
Sekiro fricking sucked, overly twitchy combat, story wasn't compelling enough for me to care, and exploring felt like shit.
DeS is the worst
>way too short
>clunky as hell
>overtly obtuse (looking at you weapon upgrades, color demon souls, and black/white world shift)
>terrible """puzzle""" bosses
Let's make this simple. All the From games excel in something. Atmosphere, magic, bosses etc.
So let's list what each game is good at and we can narrow it down:
Demon's Souls
Dark Souls 1
Dark Souls 2
Dark Souls 3
Bloodborne
Sekiro
Elden Ring
Dark Souls was the gateway and its part of vidya history but in retrospective the games are underwhelming, I enjoyed more or less the ones I played but it doesn't catch my attention. BB on the other hand is amazing, and Sekiro is amazing as well, and it's not even a soulslike anymore but an action game, which was a breath of fresh air. That's why Im disappointed with Elden Ring and its the worst in my book. I expected something new, and while it's not a bad game, it's more of the same. I played the game for 60 hours and had fun but in the end I just knew it was Dark Souls 4, and by the time I beat the fire giant I was just bored with it, I dropped it.
Dark Souls 1.
It's just not fun.
It filtered millions.
>it sucks
>filtered
Intellectually I know Dark Souls 2 is the most sloppy production and the one with the most objective technical and artistic problems. However, in my Soul I realize DS3 just does not deliver in any meaningful way and it is this stark lack of ambition and creativity that makes it the worst when taken on the total scale of the series' history.
>DES BECAUSE IT'S DS1 BETA!!!!!!
>DS2 BECAUSE IT'S TOO EXPERIMENTAL AND DIFFERENT FROM DS1!!!!!!
>DS3 BECAUSE IT'S TOO SAFE AND SIMILAR TO DS1!!!!!!
I hate 1gays so much it's not even funny.
Elden ring copy paste
Bloodborne. Easily the worst. One of the worst games i've ever bought. I won't not snap the disc in half when I give my PS4 away. I won't pass on such a shit unredeemable pile of Black person.
Demon's Souls (original)>Dark Souls (PC modded woth dsfix and run at 60fps 800x600 or whatever so it was pixelated, nearest neighbour upscale)>A pile of shit>Dark Souls 3>India>Bloodborne
DkS3. Easily.
Elden Dogshit Ring without a doubt. I watched some newcomers to the FromSoftware souls series who started with Elden Ring and then go play Dark Souls, they are mind blown by the level and world design of Dark Souls and they all suck at the combat, this proves that Elden Dogshit Ring is casualized garbage. Dark Souls teaches you how to play a souls game, while Elden Dogshit Ring allows you to cheat your way through with OP sorveries/incantations and game breaking OP spirit ashe summons.
