It looked outdated before it came out Devil May Cry 1 came out the same year.
t. consolecuck
dmc1 can't even run at the same resolution as max payne
max payne is hideous
I think it's charmingly working around the limitations of an amateur studio with little budget. It hardly seems fair to compare Remedy's second ever game vs Team Silent with the full backing of Konami at the height of their relevance to videogames
nah you are
SH2's environment textures are blurry and low-res even up close
MP's are clear, detailed and high-res even at great distances
No one ever cares about muh extra detail if the final result looks bland as frick. PC spergs always love pretending otherwise.
>It looked outdated before it came out
shut the frick up, moron
It looked fantastic for the time. It was one of those games that made non-PC dudes want to get a PC for the first half year it was out.
>It looked outdated before it came out
Nope. MP1 was legit like Crysis of its time.
Blowing off panels off the walls, seeing ALL your spent casings and mags remain on the ground, the bullet time itself... it was amazing.
I'm old enough to actually remember watching the E3 trailer for this before the game came out. I watched it almost daily leading up to release because it was so cool.
What a great game, I love remedy and especially Sam Lake.
same
being excited for a game is a long forgotten feeling
3>1>2
I think my enjoyment of each game depends on the weather and the time of year. If it's frigid and snowing, Max Payne 1. When it's raining non stop and I'm in a lovelorn mood, Max Payne 2. When it's the summer and I'm hungover, Max Payne 3.
Fitting.
For me it's
2>3>1
3 would be better than 2 if it didn't shove unskippable cutscenes down your throat. It seriously slows the game down on subsequent playthroughs.
dark aesthetic > shitty gay sunny aescethic
>Urban Brazil isn't as dark as New Yahk
My dude, they still have slavery down there.
Most kids have seen a guy get murdered by the time they're 10.
Yeah, for me noir and neo-noir is inextricably linked to New York at night
>Most kids have seen a guy get murdered by the time they're 10.
Wasn't too long ago that was the case in NYC too
Yeah but Max Payne takes place in pre 9/11 2001. NYC wasn't exactly safe, but it was a lot less seedy than it was in the 70's, and early-mid 80's. Frickin Sao Paulo though, that's got NYC beat by a country mile.
That's a very narrow view of noir media.
1 Kung Fu Mod > all
AND WE KEEP DRIVING
>Every character in the comic cutscenes was played by the devs and their family and friends
Unbeatable amounts of SOVL.
It's one of those games that set a trend, so many games after it had some kind of bullet-time mechanic.
why does every game studio/dev/publisher go to absolute shit after a couple years of big success?
>couple years
Didn't go to shit until GTAV
Rockstar held up for about 12 years. That's not bad at all.
Rockstar published tons of shit over the years, even back in the early 00s, you just don't remember it. GTAV and RDR2 were good games. Milking GTAV Online for a decade is inexcusable though.
same reason anything goes to shit
thing is successful and draws the sharks, some men in suits offer big money to buy, owner sells the business and betrays everything it stood for in exchange of said big money, business is now soulless goyslop factory made to rugpull/stain the reputation through cashgrabs
because things take time the process is not instant so they just make games that are worse and worse over time
the only thing that stops that is men with integrity which you don't see that often
Remedy keeps getting better and better, also a lot more daring in the way they experiment with the video game format.
3 isn't a Max Payne game, frick Rockstar.
3 may not be a "max payne" game, but it is still fantastic. The shooting in that game is peak 3rd person shooting in any vidya. The story is interesting enough and the dialogue is top notch as well. If it didn't carry the max payne name, it would have been way more successful.
>inb4 muh unskipable cutscenses
I care about none of these things, it's a retcon of TFoMP for no good reason and has no reason for being. Yeah, the shooting is pretty good, it's nice his VA got his face on the character, and it had some impressive sequences, but as a Max Payne game where writing informs quite a bit of it and is a major reason to play it, I just hated what they did with the character and don't like the game overall.
Q the music.
>inb4 muh unskipable cutscenses
you say that like it's not a massive flaw with the game. yes its gunplay is absolutely fantastic and probably up there with the best in terms of 3rd person shooters, but the game is constantly stopping and starting like every 30 seconds, it's seriously annoying. we don't need a 10 second long shot of dudes coming in the door and getting into cover literally every single goddamned time enemies enter the area.
Agreed. 2 is the most replayable Max Payne game specifically because there are no downtimes and almost everything story related can be skipped in two clicks. 1 is up there as well, but it's longer and has some sequences that test your patience. No early havoc physics either.
>3 isn't a Max Payne game
That's the reason why it's such a good game
Not how it works.
Honest question, what do people get out of entering threads revolving around praising games, just to shittalk them? Are we being "le ebin baited"? Do you think you'll change anyone's opinion? Do you even care? If yes, why, if no, then why post?
>3 isn't a Max Payne game, frick Rockstar.
based
cringe
MP1 is the best 3rd person shooter ever made, if you disagree you have dogshit taste, no need to argue about it
>become hugely successful
>israeli companies like BlackRock start buying percents of the companies
>everything becomes worse

GTA was never good.

IT'S PAYNE!
Another crowbcat thread
anyone have that mega of all the fixes?
Not the best game ever but an acceptable choice for personal favorite. Game is just so fricking good all these years later.
>10/10
Not with that shooting, dude. The bullet time implementation was top notch, sure, but the actual feedback from shooting the goons was really poor and improved in the sequel, with the caveat of making the bullet time mechanic totally broken and losing suspense along the way.
>stage where the room explodes in the beginning
Was kino
I agree with everything but graphics, other than the textures it didn't really have anything impressive compared to other games around that time, the world was pretty blocky and bland except the nightmare sequences. The comic book styled videos is what I'd say aged the best presentation wise in the game.
Games like silent hill 2 and metal gear solid 2 looked more impressive thanks to a strong art direction despite their technical limitations.
the steam version runs like shit and is full of gamebreaking bugs.
Didn't go pass the second level because of a loading stage error.
ultrawide screen fricks the display even more
