Truly the greatest pokemon game. We can finally be free, /tr/ainers.....
this, but unironically.
Legends 2 when?
DLC when?
Not soon enough. Playing PLA was a magical experience that I wish more people embraced.
PLA is the worst game in the series behind diamond and pearl
>irreperably fucks up backwards compatibility
How so?
Gen 2 bad Gen 5 good
Gen 5 bad gen 8 good.
Gen 8 bad Gen 9 good.
PLA's battle system is pretty solid. I like it. People often complain that it has no abilities or items but I don't mind. The styles added enough depth.
It's also a fully realized Single Player experience rather than a competitive game with side-title lock outs of mons, which I really appreciated.
>boring catching simulator
>2+ hour tutorial
>new pokemon designs are ugly/have bad stats
>relies on fanservice instead of being original
>characters in Jubilife village don't move
>quests are boring fetch quests
>fake open world game
>world is empty with no hidden items
>story is retarded
>action segments involve spamming the dodge and throw buttons
I could go on
Sorry meant to tag
>Meaningless complaint that just pads for length
>I appreciated it. I had no familiarity with 3D pokemon and it told me what I needed to know
>Disagree on most and if every Pokemon is good, all you end up with is power creep. H. Zoroark is a boss though.
>I did not like Gen 4. I loved PLA.
>Who the hell wants the NPCs to wander away from where they are supposed to be found, exactly?
>The quests are a notable weakness with the game, I'll give you that one.
>The fake open world is an improvement. It keeps the game from having S/V's performance issues and with a bit of additional iteration, is a good way to reincorporate Routes into future installments of the Pokemon games.
>Fake complaint to pad for length. Use Ursaluna, and even without those, literally who cares?
>The story was perfectly fine.
>Might as well complain about Dark Souls involving too much dodge-rolling
>boring catching simulator
*Fun catching simulator
>2+ hour tutorial
Par for the course in modern pokemon
>new pokemon designs are ugly/have bad stats
I like the designs and stats are for nerds
>relies on fanservice instead of being original
What? This game is the most unique pokemon game out there
>characters in Jubilife village don't move
Good. Makes it easier to find them
>quests are boring fetch quests
*Fun fetch quests
>fake open world game
True, but it lets each area stand out more
>world is empty with no hidden items
Okay? Cry about it
>story is retarded
You got me there
>action segments involve spamming the dodge and throw buttons
Fair point, but they don't overstay their welcome so I don't mind
>new pokemon designs are ugly/have bad stats
Now you just can’t be serious, baiter kun
The stat/level balancing in this game is far superior to the main games. Lower level mons can still do damage to you.
I will never ever understand how people enjoyed this game. I genuinely think its probably one of the worst Pokemon games I ever played.
I can't relate. PLA gave me almost everything I wanted out of a Pokemon game.
It's the only worthwhile Switch game
>LGPE is Kanto AGAIN with no worthwhile additional content and an awful wild battle system
>SWSH is basically just Sun & Moon 2
>BDSP is a downgraded version of a 15 year old DS game
>SV is a barren glitchfest
PLA just was not fun for me in in any way, and the story is easily the worst in any Pokemon game
Those being bad doesn't make PLA good. And I still disliked PLA more than any of those others, at least of the ones I played since I never bothered with LGPE
Meant to click this for the first part
and not my own post
People just shill it because its different and "unique". For all of the praise its gotten (from the vocal minority), its still the worst selling switch pokemon game and is already irrelevant.
>I didn't like it, so it's impossible that anyone else actually liked it
My ideal pokemon game is one that has an emphasis on ecology and the study of pokemon, while retaining the adventure and battling aspect. Essentially fusing Snap with mainline.
PLA is probably the closest we will get to that for the foreseeable future.
Even that aside, it's the first game since gen 4 to implement any meaningful changes to the combat mechanics, as well as modernizes how battles are presented to make them more fluid and speed them up incredibly which makes them feel like much less of an interruption, mounting and dismounting is surprisingly seamless, and the varying pokemon sizes is a nice touch, as well as the more accurate pokemon sizes. As an aside it also has the best final boss battle.
PLA feels budget and has some big issues, a far cry from an actually good game, but in terms of pokemon, it has plenty to appeal to me.
It's not a great game, it's a decent (40ish bucks) game.
But it could serve as a foundation for greatness, by greatness i mean romhacks and custom games not GFslop.
I just started the game today but its so boring. I fell asleep within the first 2 hours. Im kind of confused how a level 2 pokemon can do 90% damage to my level 10 starter. And filling the pokedex entries to rank 10 is absurdly tedious
How exactly did PLA overhaul the battle system?
>Overhauls the battle system
For the worse. PLA battle system was shit. That's why there are deliberately few battles. PLA is just a glorified catching simulator. That's why it's so shit.
Compcuck opinions don't matter.
If you disliked PLA more than those then clearly your priorities are fucking warped and you have no idea what makes the older games better than the newer ones. have a nice day.
I dislike PLA more because its genuinely worse. The combat is awful, the noble fights suck, and throwing around balls is not fun.
>Are fucking amazing, No I DONT want to go though the whole process of a battle to capture some random shitmon for the millionth time. Perhaps make the bait/stunning Items more important
See, I hate the catching mechanics, and I don't want a game that revolves only around catching for catching sake.
>irreperably fucks up backwards compatibility
What? It being the way it is is literally why we HAVE backwards compatibility again.
Ganker simpletons have no memory at all
PLA is a shitty game
the other recent pokemon games are even more shitty
therefore, in comparison, PLA is less shitty.
I hate PLA because catching for the sake of catching is dumb and not fun. Throwing around balls is not fun.
Jokes on you, I had fun with it.
>Implying I let Ganker form my opinions
You don't have to do that though, you can literally just get into a battle and catch them the old fashion way
Why do people who post this shit clearly didn't play the game?
Welcome to Ganker, where unironically liking something makes people incredibly mad.
I don't think you really understand what I mean by "catching for the sake of catching" because its more than just about the mechanics of the act.
And the battle stuff isn't entirely the same, since, and especially in the early game based on sped, Pokemon can run away before you even get your first turn
>bunch of anti-PLA posts get made
>IP count won't go up
Really gets the knoggin joggin.
>We want the next Pokémon games to be like BotW/TotK
>Monkey paw curls
Im playing for the first time, anyone care to explain why level 2 pokemon can 2hitko my level 12 starter? How do i fix this?
Unironically get good.
That literally didnt answer my question. Whats causing them to hit harder than me, why dont levels matter?
If they have a type advantage against you, it matters a lot, even if it's just a coverage move. PLA is harder in that respect because most mons do have coverage moves.
The stats have been changed due to the new system being speed-based and attacks being altered. It favors catching rather than battling, whereas battling is more for observing.
You're going to notice this later, but when you battle people, defeating an opponent doesn't mean you get a free turn.
Pvp could have been fun
The battle system was fine for fighting encounters, but actual trainer battles were atrocious. 90% of the volo fight difficulty comes from oddities with when attacks are executed and not his team
How do i turn off rumble?
Best thing they did was fix Trade Evolutions by creating a new item for those Trade Evolutions and letting the Item Held Trade Evolutions just evolve by using the items. They didn't need to do that because the game had trading, but they did.
Too bad SV took it right back out because OY TWO VERSIONS GOYIM
I can't give them too much credit for implementing something ROM hacks have done for 15 years in a side game
I never really understand why this is such a sticking point for people, but then I remember I actually have friends who help me out with trade evolutions.
I never really trusted other people with my Pokemon, as weird as it sounds. It felt weird to send them away.
As much as Gamefreak wants to push it, there are a lot more people who just want to play the game in single player and that's it.
The fact that they made PLA single player heavy focused shows that even they know that
>there are a lot more people who just want to play the game in single player
you can keep parroting this, but the sales don't reflect this. At the end of the day, game sales are the most important factor to a company and this game doesn't cut it compared to mainline games. Even a lazy minimal effort remake made by a third party sells more.
>Bringing up sales
It doesn't fucking matter anon, the QoL that benefits everybody doesn't need to be pushed away like that, why do all these gays use this shit when defending shit yet when we fucking ask for "options" to cater to more people, we have to eat shit.
Fuck you, I'm not asking for them to cater to me specifically or change how the game was designed, I'm asking to add more options for those of us that don't give a shit about Multiplayer.
PLA literally has online trading and still gave us QoL to evolve those trade evolutions. There's no reason not to push this further.
I never said PLA being single player was bad and stuff from it was useless (you're mad so you put words in my mouth, not surprising). Rather, you cannot make an objectively wrong statement that people prefer single player games like PLA when the metric Gamefreak will use to measure that (sales) doesn't reflect that. You seem to think Gamefreak is keen and really cares about making a really good game, which means either you're delusional or a shill.
>Useless sales words
Gamefreak isn't stupid and has improved over stuff the shills were trying their best to defend in SWSH.
There's nothing stopping them from taking the Single Player focused QoL and merge them with the traditional Pokemon setting so there's more options for everyone
This
It's really fucking neat, to have natural Ghastly and Geodude lines in the game, and not have to skip to late game to catch their evolutions.
PLA is the best thing to happen to the franchise since gen 4 but is not perfect. Mainly because it's the first game in the series that keeps the main concept of collecting and battling mons while also finally breaking away from Gen 1 traditional mechanics. This should be the base of the franchise going forward.
>Catching mechanics
Are fucking amazing, No I DONT want to go though the whole process of a battle to capture some random shitmon for the millionth time. Perhaps make the bait/stunning Items more important
>Battle System
Pretty good, it's basically FFX. Flesh it out with mainline mechanics like Held Items/Abilities/Weather/Terrain. Add in Doubles and maybe even Triples. The worse thing I can say about it is there is not enough trainer battles.
>Map/Semi Open World
I actually like this style better than a full Open World. It just "feels" better.
>Trainer Vs Boss Mon
It's shit and needs a complete rework or dropped. They need to go play Monster Hunter World/Rise to get an idea of how it should feel. Literally the only thing about the game I really dislike.
>Story/Progress
It might not be the best but at least it's not just go do the E4 again with a side of EPIC drama.
I hope they make the Legends line its own consistent thing like the remakes. Only Pokemon game I've liked on the switch
PLA is the best Switch Pokemon game and one of the best in general.
I hope the Legends mechanics become mainline.
The combat mechanics probably can't without throwing Competitive into a dumpsterfire, but the capture mechanics and Pokemon actually being threatening outside of battle would be outstanding.
the battle mechanics are substantially worse than mainline games.
How?
>No items/abilities
>Speed is even more glorified
>Since its action based, after getting a KO on an opponent, they can get an attack right after the switch in, it just leads to revenge kills with no counterplay in the form of prediction
When you play the game its fun at first because its new, but you start to realize the flaws, which are especially transparent in trainer battles.
>>No items/abilities
Bloat. The enemies in regular pokemon games often don't even use them well. All these things do is make the game easier.
is even more glorified
Then use agile style more, I had no problems with using slower pokemon.
its action based, after getting a KO on an opponent, they can get an attack right after the switch in, it just leads to revenge kills with no counterplay in the form of prediction
God forbid the enemies in Pokemon games be able to threaten me for once.
Not to overly jerk this Anon off, but I do agree regarding items and what-not: stat-items don't really feel integral to the experience. PLA does have a very strong emphasis on speed, and it does result in a lot of Pokemon getting knocked out in a given fight unless there's an enormous level advantage and an effective move pool of STAB neutral effective or super effective moves to call on in a given situation. I actually liked how the battles made me work for my victory instead of just rolling one trainer after another. Outside of PLA, trainer battles have never been more than a nuisance or something to level grind your Pokemon against.
>The enemies in regular pokemon games often don't even use them
I think this is quite literally the worst argument against it you could have made. The idea is that enemies in the regular games should use them properly, and when done right it resembles something like BDSP's E4 or USUM or Colosseum which do have well designed fights, not to remove it entirely to dumb down the battle system even further.
Also, and I'm NTA, but being on a board where people commonly complain about every little thing getting removed and then have people turn around and defend the removal of things that objectively do add dimension to the battle system is actually surreal.
>God forbid the enemies in Pokemon games
Also in conjunction with
. Difficulty is not something that adds quality to a game inherently, it needs to be well designed. If I made every trainer in, say, RBY have level 100 Pokemon and maxed out every stat the game would be harder and you'd need to "work for your victory". It would also be designed terribly. PLA is obviously not that extreme, but it's incredibly clunky and often overly punishing in a bad way. It also feels balanced badly, in that most of the game is a breeze outside of a handful of fights or if you just get unlucky at points. I really would prefer well designed regular trainer battles any day of the week.
>often overly punishing in a bad way. It also feels balanced badly, in that most of the game is a breeze outside of a handful of fights or if you just get unlucky at points.
Maybe there's a "right way" to play PLA in that it rewards you for taking it slowly, taking your time, and being meticulous; rushing everywhere isn't really my style, and I think I felt rewarded for not being in a hurry.
I don't really get the point of this post. Nothing I said had anything to do with how quickly I played through the game
You breezed through it, but are complaining about it feeling punishing? Kind of a thonkeroo, there
No, I meant "breezed" as in I found it incredibly easy for most of the time
I can't think of a single fight that felt punishing, Volo was slightly challenging but that's it. Nothing required more than one attempt
There wasn't one specific fight that did it (well, maybe one of the 3v1 ones) but the battle system overall feels ridiculously jank the minute something goes south for you.
I actually had no trouble with Volo either.
Ditto for you.
>things go south when things go south
WOW
What a boring post that says nothing.
>BDSP or USUM
Oh, it's a shill.
I hope Legends remains a one-off and is never attempted again with none of its mechanics carried over
>t. angry never-player who maybe watched a Lets Play
>Maybe
I bought the game retard
Genuinely hated it
>Genuinely hated it
Can you articulate why it doesn't work for you?
Catching for the sake of catching is inherently boring to me and making a game that revolves around it will not be fun to me.
GF using this as a substitute for actual content since LGPE is my biggest gripe with modern Pokemon games.
And so I'm not misinterpreted, I'm not saying people shouldn't be able to obtain the Pokemon they want within a game. Especially for newer fans who haven't played older games and don't have access to the older stuff. What I mean is that the act of catching itself is the end goal and not the first step of many.
Running around a field full of Pokemon I don't really want to catch when the game doesn't make me feel like I actually need to have Pokemon most of the time is not going to be fun to me. After this many games, I don't want to catch the same Pokemon over and over again, and while you might just give the kneejerk "The game doesn't make you catch 30 Biddofs" people usually do, I mean accross all the games. I have a living dex that I catch new stuff and forms for, and then only stuff I like or plan to use. Throwing balls at Pokemon is not going to be fun to me.
This anon
covers what I feel about the combat system but I want to also voice a particular disdain for the really dumb boss battles. I don't want to just throw stuff over and over again at a Pokemon, I want to battle it with Pokemon.
Do I want the series to improve? Absolutely. I don't think that Pokemon games haven't been declining in quality, but I'm not just going to eat up something just because its different when I don't enjoy what makes it different.
No. Me saying I hate this game the most of the Switch era does not mean I think anything in the Switch era is good.
I bet you would have liked it if it was the third installment.
I enjoyed it but I’m more excited for when they remake it in 2032 and fix most of its flaws
How to turn off rumble?
Why dont pokeballs work on graveler when you throw them?
What do the two numbers under level mean on serebii? Like if a pokemon learns a move it says 18 and 24, why are there 2 different levels for that move?
