Oldrim is perfectly fine. All the memory issues were properly addressed through mods. Yeah you need a couple more mods to allow to use better memory, ect but at the end of the day is perfectly fine. No one needed S.E let alone Anniversary. Frick out of here with that shit. Anon, there's a version specifically to address mod limitations through memory, better optimization and full compatibility with "oldrim" mods. Using SKSE to try and feed it more memory or doing so through launch exceptions is inferior as the problem is rooted in the engine itself on oldrim.

Devil's Advocate: At least over time DLC got better and turned into proper mini-expansions (Fallout) or avenues to support devs (DRG).

Sadly, as much as Ganker and Ganker would love to think their voice is going to matter, it won't because it has to shout against the millions of joe and jane gamers that simply don't think much and buy because they have the money, and don't see the issue. Even if they did, could they still be bothered to care?

It's their money and they'll do what they want with it, no matter how much Ganker screams at them or berates them. It's been like this for 20 years and will keep going another 20 years. Only thing to do to not go insane: is to kind of, accept what it is and just not pay for this crap.

Modders don't want paid mods, either. Only desprate corporate dicksuckers want paid mods, and while usually that means people who have no talent and couldn't get anyone to pay attention to them if it weren't for bethesda promoting them, by law of averages at least one of that group would have some talent and is just stupid.

      >Every other company learned you can get consumers to spend more by just letting them pay for things directly a decade ago
What the frick are you talking about? That's the opposite of reality. Basically every game uses a virtual currency cause it helps disguise what everything is actually worth, making people spend more. The giants of MTX - GTA Online, FIFA, Fortnite, Call of Duty, etc. - all use this system, as does damn near every casino in the world.

        Anonymous

It also helps them to only allow the currency to be bought in specific amounts so they can price the items accordingly, usually slightly above what you can get with just 1 package

They don't. They live on donations

      Let me break this down.

That is totally a valid argument to make in the case of modders that have patreons, ko-fi, or other means of donating and supporting them for their work and to keep working IF THEY CHOOSE TO DO SO.

It's also valid and ok for modders to not want any monetary compensation, and instead simply enjoy the act of creating shit for a game they like to share with others.

The issue isn't Modders want money for their work.

It's that AAA want a CUT of the money for work someone did FOR them! Bethesda didn't create ANY of this, they only made the game and the store, and to use that store you need to give a cut of your profit, to them.

Granted in capitalism that makes sense on paper.

BUT IN PRACTICE, given how the AAA these days is more money/business centric, it's very hard not to be immediatly be suspicious that the intentions are less "good" and more "We just want cold hard money from console users and normies that simply don't know better".

THAT is the core of why people take issue with this sort of thing. I'd imagine this would be less of a problem if this whole thing was negotiated through a third party between the game's developer(s) and publisher and the mod developer(s). Of course that would mean Bethesda wouldn't get to be in charge of the whole operation.

The entire appeal of modding is that it is accessible, unregulated, and free. It's exactly what you say, Bethesda wants a cut of the modding market, and a say in the modding process. It's essentially thirdparty microdlc Bethesda can profit from with minimal effort. I knew Starfield flopped, but I didn't realize it was so bad they would go crawling back to CC(again), but here we are

        Anonymous

        >The entire appeal of modding is that it is accessible, unregulated, and free. It's exactly what you say, Bethesda wants a cut of the modding market, and a say in the modding process. It's essentially thirdparty microdlc Bethesda can profit from with minimal effort. I knew Starfield flopped, but I didn't realize it was so bad they would go crawling back to CC(again), but here we are

Frankly while it's easy to mentally connnect the two, it could always be just coincidence. They just released the Atlantic City stuff for 76, and still make money from 76 and ESO.

Also the AAA industry is worth alot of money, with more coming from their Microsoft masters.

So it makes absolutly ZERO fricking sense why what I would now consider a AAAA corporation, need even more from selling some mods in a 10 year old video game?

Then again it could be just the issue with modern capitalists; they just want the numbers to keep going up and up even if it's becoming unrealistic and actively ruining their service, products, and consumer goodwill.

          Anonymous

Pursuit of profit is the reason corporations exist. They saw modded Skyrim persisting, especially while Starfield failed, and want a slice of the market. If they actually tried they would announce new Skyrim dlc instead of peddling buggy mods from desperate mod authors nobody wants, but this is Bethesda we're talking about. CC failed multiple times already, it will fail again. There are braindead people that will pay for it but there aren't enough to make a difference. Everyone that plays Skyrim in 2023 plays with mods

            Anonymous

            >They saw modded Skyrim persisting, especially while Starfield failed

This wasn't a "Starfield flopped time to shake the loose change out of modding", they did this before. Did we forget when they tried that shit on Steam, or when Creation Club was first announced?

Honestly it's like people forget that Bethesda is owned by Microsoft; who probably has a Scrooge McDuck sized vault for all the shit they bought and make money off of, not counting Windows shit.

Starfield to them is like saying a rich person blowing $5,000 is like a normal person blowing $5. A drop of water in the grand scale.

              Anonymous

Yes but they want another Skyrim, Starfield was supposed to be the new, exciting, untainted universe for the modern era. It failed. It's important because going forward, all the eggs are in one basket. That isn't good. And despite the fact CC failed multiple times before, they're going forward with the SAME strategy. Modders actively lobby against the CC, and players have 0 interest in paying for mods

                Anonymous

That is fair. Starfield was supposed to be Skyrim 2 far as the suits were concerned. But it feels like everyone wants to say anything Bethesda does now is because Starfield flopped.

And again, they're owned by Microsoft, which I'm still calling "AAAA" because there's nothing else like this situation in the history of gaming. (If we could even call it that). There should be enough funds for a small country.

The only reason it hasn't happened to Starfield yet is that the CK is out. Starfield was always going to have a worse mod scene than Skyrim due to no one liking it, but now it will be completely fricked due to half of the 150 mods you see in an average modlist requiring a $7 fee. Skyrim at least already has a million free mods that are better than what is getting paywalled.

        Anonymous

Starfield was already set to have even lower modding activity than Fallout 4, now that's going to crash even harder. They want to lure modders who want to make money to Starfield, but there will be no actual draw if there aren't even that many players interested in the first place.

I was hoping to play modded Skyrim SE for the first time ever this winter, and then they go and do this.

      >modders
*Bethesda. Modders are already being paid through donations

      Anonymous

Patreon, Subscribestar, e-funding, and that's being barely tolerable. Do something else that will make you real money instead giving a cut of your work to a leech that no longer wants to innovate.

Because Bethesda deserves all the money for supporting such a great product for as long as they have. We should be thankful for how generous they have been with their intellectual property giving people a chance to truly shine.

        Anonymous

        In a better world maybe.
In the current one, I simply CANNOT trust a AAA to do anything like that and NOT expect them to find some way to frick everyone else over for the sake of pure, green, profit.

Bethesda are not content with the money brought on by the extended lifetime sales they get from people making and freely distributing mods for free, they want all of the money by trying to get a cut out of that additional work they did not do

Paid mods will destroy Bethesda. The modding community is already a husk of what it once was because of what they started and it's going to get worse. Mods are the thing that saves their games, no one is going to return to trash like Starfield because there won't be a savior this time. By the next game or the one after, enough people will have learned this. The last Bethesda game I bought was Skyrim in 2011.

Alright, I already have the Anniversary edition from GOG. So I have a few questions here:

    1. Are these new or the same shit you get with the Anniversary edition?
    2. If the former, are they compatible with what is included in the Anniversary edition?
    3. Can I get these with the GOG version or do I have to get the Steam version?
    4. How long do you estimate that it will take for Bethesda to just bundle these with another edition or at least let me buy them in bulk?
    5. Skyrim is almost 13 years old by this point, is TESVI really still not close enough to finishing the development?
    6. Probably the most important thing here, are any of these cool enough to bother with?

      Anonymous

      >1. Are these new or the same shit you get with the Anniversary edition?
It's new shit. They aren't part of the creation club, it's 100% paid mods this time. You buy them with creation club coins. Bethesda is also increasing coin prices soon.
      >2. If the former, are they compatible with what is included in the Anniversary edition?
Probably, but there are no guarantees, they are just paid mods and Bethesda now won't monitor whether they're compatible with other stuff or each other. They basically don't give a shit at this point.
      >3. Can I get these with the GOG version or do I have to get the Steam version?
They aren't tied to Steam but rather your Bethesda account afaik
      >4. How long do you estimate that it will take for Bethesda to just bundle these with another edition or at least let me buy them in bulk?
It won't happen, this isn't the creation club. They are treating them as mods this time, which means they're taking a much more hands off approach. They are much less concerned with quality and maintaining the mods compatible, they're basically just handing it to mothers and taxing the whole thing to get passive revenue.
