I did it in SwoShi enjoyed it a lot more, went to gyms with around same level mons and the same amount or less than total than gym leaders. Sadly this was 1 year later than launch, so no point in replaying.

      Options Menu B.
You have the option to default all of those.
That said it would make more sense for the menu to be split into a "custom game settings" and "game configuration" menus, but the original creator didnt do that because they wanted to be disingenuous.

People just want to use 6 Pokemon to handicap themselves they don't give a damn about the balance. Truth is it is intended for you to be higher level than pretty much all NPCs.

Well its difficult now the games do feel largely balanced around it. Especially PLA which is more about collecting, where your party will likely completely switch fairly regularly to level up and fill out the dex. Plus there you still had to use everyone at least a bit to meet the dex requirements. In general the series seems to be going that way where you go out in the wild and try to find shit. Less an old school RPG with basic mostly linear progression.

Options are always good but it would likely just lead to a pretty bad level curve. So I'd rather they put work in to give optional difficulties.

The exp share is still triggering people almost 10 years later? I get it, nostalgia, the games aren't growing up with you, but the fact the exp spread wasn't part of like, gen 3 onward like how literally every other JRPG still grands exp to members of a party not in battle is absurd. It was a flaw and the exp share was really only bad in X/Y. I have no idea how people get overleveled in something like Sw/Sh. Granted I don't use candies cause, well, I'm not retarded but I'm always at or slightly below the level curve. Leon is always 5 levels higher than me so Sw/Sh finally got the exp spread perfected and it's just fine in PLA.

      >Granted I don't use candies cause
Because you're a self-sabotaging idiot? There's no reason not to use them, going out of your way to not engage with parts of the game and then claiming the game is well design on that basis is lunacy.

Pokemon needs XP share MORE than other games because compared to other JRPGs even less of your active party is actually on the field at once than normal. Every kid in the 90s brute forced the game with a single Pokemon because that's what the game design encourages you to do, it was objectively bad balance and people's issues with it revolve around shit like "overleveling" which is unrelated to xp share.

      Anonymous

      >I have no idea how people get overleveled in something like Sw/Sh.
I have no idea how they don't. I've played the games by only catching the team of 6 and then doing all trainers ever since Gen 7 came out, including a lot of the older titles, and for SwSh, even this is a struggle to not be overleveled.
This is a large part of why I found no enjoyment in the games. Even this style that's tailored to keep you underleveled for an arbitrary challenge fails.

no, it is not the problem
it is unfortunate, but disabling it would not remedy the existence of those bad mechanics existing in the first place

          >but disabling it would not remedy the existence of those bad mechanics existing in the first place
Maybe not, but it is following the path of least resistance. It's been a decade of exp all games, and they still haven't figured out how to balance them properly.

The fundamental problem with trying to talk about xp share with you people is you think all the games are supposed to have the same "baseline" exp curve and any deviation from that is under or over powered. An in game item to boost xp is not the same as an option toggle.

You're right. It's much, much worse than a toggle. Because it's forced upon you, and can't be removed at all. It does nothing but ruin the main game if you even attempt to play the DLC before postgame.
The beauty of a toggle is that you can just turn it off. You're not at the mercy of the developer.

Just switch your team up and use more pokemon. That's why they did it in the first place, so you'd actually engage with the game's primary content (collecting and battling monsters) instead of just using the same 6 the entire game.

And here's a very easy solution a fucking warning prompt before the game allows you to turn it off:
"WARNING! Turning off EXP. Share may lead to an imbalanced experience.
