it really was, not only did it double down on nearly everything that made sticker star bad but it actively made a lot of those things worse, most notably the battles
also the OST is easily the weakest and most forgettable in the series and it's not even close

Out of all the mandate era PMs, it’s the most okayest. What I don’t get is all the praise TOK got despite having the series worst combat system to date.

while I agree they make more interesting things than the compeition I still find most of the switch library to be 7/10s which people act like are all at least 9 since you can only play them on nintendo.
Whenever someone posts a best games list it is padded with stuff nobody really cares about like yoshi craft world and fitness boxing

I think the puzzle combat was alright but the real draw for TOK was the GOD tier soundtrack for me, no idea what the composers were on for this game but almost every track is a banger.

The fact that all of the Koopalings require Things to beat them makes it worse than Sticker Star. At least in that game, if you didn't use the Thing that crippled the boss you could still win through sheer attrition. Now the boss remains invincible and will either one shot you or do a ludicrous amount of damage that it is a one shot if you don't use the appropriate Thing at the right time.

Not only you need to select your cards like in sticker star, but you also gotta paint them AND also flick them in order to use it.

Realistically speaking no one knows. The game sold absolute frick all, and most buyers were probably kids who got stuck with it because their parents bought them whatever Mario shit was on the shelf. I doubt most people in these threads have ever or will ever play it.

From my perspective as someone who never played it, it's probably a worse Origami King since TOK reused a lot of assets and code. But who the frick knows.

It's one thing for someone who has never played a game to try talking about it anyway, exposing themselves with inaccuracies, but for you to admit it so proudly is awe-inspiring.

      >no one knows
I certainly do and I suffered 2 fricking playthroughs of that garbage -- I fricking HATE CS. Just like with TOK, the battle system was its greatest detriment to the overall experience. Everyone who defends this game never - and I mean NEVER - defends it outside of superfluous details like the graphics or the OST.
2 Literal Whos made a "It's le Underrated xD" review at the time with one of them using the "WELL MY SON LIKES IT!" excuse and his channel is now dead because of it. This is the Bad Rats of Paper Mario and if you hate children, gift this to them without the console.

It's a charming enough game if you go in knowing it's more like a point-and-click adventure game and not an RPG. If you want to get lost in goofy dialogue and scenarios it's entertaining and if you want something mechanically deeper it's not for you.

It doesn't seem like Furukawa was ever interested in the mandate, that was an Iwata thing. He took over around 2019. Obviously Origami King was too late to change. And everything since then hasn't followed the mandate.
