Parts that are great and awful at the same time

>first boss
>many cool mechanics
>but camera zoom that literally pulls you into his bodyslam
>some attacks with almost no telegraphing, like when he throws pillars
>wrecking ball he tries to throw ON TOP OF YOU apparently wants to be dodged by JUMPING, so running away from it has a 50% chance of hitting you
>even then outdated 8-directional controls designed for d-pad
Maybe great but awful is just the Nomura essence though. Not sure if I should continue

This game is trash. Very boring level design and extremely clunky controls/movement.

Wouldn't call it trash, it's 'almost-charming' with some interesting mechanics. I sometimes do feel trolled by Playstation fans and some of the games they put in their list war lists, though

The charm alone makes it an outstanding title. It was a genuinely refreshing title that made me realize how timeless retro vidya can really be.

It’s a fun game, but it does have a lot of padding and bullshit. I don’t think any of the bosses after the Steam Knight have that problem.
The game is one of those “world feels alive” games where people have scheduled and stores open at certain times. It’s fun to get lost in it if you’re open to that kind of stuff, but it’s far from perfect. I’d give it a bit more time to grow on you since you only just finished the intro.

The ahitpost was in the OP.
Watch this video and realize this is the fight this moron is whining about

Observe the impossible pillar and wrecking ball attacks that exploit his total lack of motor skills, and that he can't figure out that the giant shadow is where the boss will land.
Not to mention his idiotic complaint about the controls, because he's underage and doesn't realize the analog on the PS1 just duplicates the d-pad in 99% of games because they all needed to be compatible with 1st gen controllers.

90-IQ people like you unironically shouldn't be allowed on the internet. You can't deboonk that x is counterintuitive with a video of someone who mastered x. That's like saying the N64 controller was great because people beat F-Zero X with it.

Post a blind playthrough. See the difference.

            >You can't deboonk that x is counterintuitive
Nothing in that fight is counterintuitive because it was made during a time period where people were expected to actually play video games, instead of being handheld like a toddler from individual setpiece to setpiece, with explicit intrustics and rules laid out in between so that their "experience" is not interrupted.
If you get hit 2 times by the wrecking ball, it would make common sense that you would try an alternative method of dodging it, but because the game does not auto pause and pop up an indicator in the top right telling you this, the moron continues to try the exact same thing over and over, before eventually looking up a video and screaming "WOW DUDE HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THE GAME NEVER EXPLAINED"
You never were intended to know, the game (which again, was targeted at 8-14 year olds btw) expected you to not have the problem solving skills of a goldfish and actually attempt various tactics. Now 25 years after the game comes out, you smash your mongoloid hands against a keyboard and whine and shit your diaper that the game doesn't follow modern day game design of explicitly telling you how every encounter and obstacle should be overcome so that you can seemlessly continue through it with no interruptions, or god forbid, replaying sections of the game after failure, and call it clunky and awful.
You will never contribute anything meaningful to the discussion about any retro video game, because you're completely incapable of understanding the time and frame of reference in which they were made and no one will ever give a shit about what you say besides other underage morons.

The things listed in OP are, as demonstrated by every blind through in the world

              >If you get hit 2 times by the wrecking ball, it would make common sense that you would try an alternative method of dodging it
Glad you admit it's cheap trial and error
              >but because the game does not auto pause and pop up an indicator in the top right telling you this
That's a funny remark considering the game spoonfeeds you and solves every puzzles on its own up to that point. See pic
Rest of your post is insults and buzzwords

What was wrong with the N64 controller? It did everything it was supposed to do. There's not one single thing in any game the controller impedes you from doing. What more do you need, for it to fit up your ass?

I finished it recently. It does have a bunch of padding. It seems like they had bigger ideas that were limited in development and it came out like this. I think they wanted to do more with artifacts (they should be trade-able with npcs for upgrades/items/etc, instead they're just sold for money). The graphics betray the character design (the concept art looks much more interesting and memorable), and also a lot of the characters only get a tiny presence, but they could have been much more involved. Allucaneet palace has a really cool overall design that I don't think is explained at all. Just feels like it could have been a lot more, but it's still an okay game.

I'm sure there's more but I enjoyed it for a one time play through.

Nah that part isn't bad moron, it's the "minigames" such as the Steamwoods gauge thing and the rhythm game boss fight near the end. Even then I was like 8 or 9 when I struggled with that.

This game has Zelda-tier difficulty. If that's too hard for you, you've pretty much bottomed out. Why are you even playing video games? I'm sure there's something you're good at (actually I'm not).

It's easier than Zelda, but shittier with worse trial and error too
