how do you not plug in something properly, if it's wrong it wouldn't go in, right?

They're not plugging it in all the way, and bending it before 35cm out. Those are the primary causes of fire.

not GPU but my ATX cable refuses to go further in than like 1-2mm from all the way, am I fricked?

If the locking mechanism is engaged you're probably fine, the newer motherboards seem a bit tight.

            Anonymous

no, that's normal because this stuff doesn't have tight tolerances
plug it all the way you can using your wrist and it'll be fine
but you can try forcing it in for the peace of mind, you won't damage it that way

shittiest 20 awg cables can handle 9A, you can do the math yourself
if we're being honest you could remove half the pins from the connector that goes from your PSU to the motherboard and still have a large safety margin

If you don't push it until it clicks you can have a weaker electrical connection which means higher resistance so more heat = melting

The 40 series cards are apparently a bit more difficult to seat properly.

3090 ti used the same cable just without the sense terminals or whatever that shit was that determined if the psu will give the card 450W or 600W
it was slow news week after 4090 dropped and people were excited because the card was insanely fast so their atrophied gamer muscles combined with excitement and impatience caused them to not plug it all the way in and journos capitalized on it to get obscene amount of clicks blowing it way out of proportion

        35mm even.

these shitty plugs take a lot of force to plug in all the way, and they're really awkwardly placed.

The other issue is that if one of the pins doesn't go straight into its hole it can be pushed out the back of the plug and you might not notice until your card catches fire.

it's funny how many panicked redditors bought cablemod just to be reminded why they're shit in the first place and you should not buy cables from them
there are many chink companies that make much higher quality cables than cablemod and they're cheaper
      I won't name them because I'm not a shill

I still can't believe all Snoy did was put a shitty foam around it. When I used to put LM on the GPU and delidded CPUs back in the 7700K days I always insulated the area around the die with a special heat resistant insulating tape so that nothing would short in the unlikely scenario of the LM spilling

it's just you. for the most part PC hardware has gotten almost idiot proof. High current cables in pokey little spaces with shitty plugs are just asking for trouble, that's all.
