First game was set in Britain and had a grungy, almost grindhouse-y atmopsphere, second was set on the continent and took a cleaner, more sci-fi aesthetic - a trend they seem to be continuing with the third.

      The first game is genuinely amazing, very unique in its grittiness, the guns are great and the atmosphere is just cool, british zombie apocalypse. The second game completely shit the bed and lost itself. I have no hope for the third opus.

      First one was a blast. Voices were hilarious, and gameplay was straight forward and fun, with decent difficulty at higher levels (still pretty easy to cheese, though).
      Second one was dead on arrival. Had some nice graphics and the gun animations were great, but no big changes to gameplay and the humor was completely sucked out.
      I'd get neither; the communities are dead at this point.
      I have little hope for 3.

      First game is holdout FPS kino with a god tier atmosphere. Fricking hilarious and memorable characters while still being a gross and creepy grimy ass game.
      KF2 broke the holdout strategy's legs and now the game is a kite-a-thon like Nazi Zombies. Completely jumped the shark. moronic fricking devs swapped the 10/10 grimy aesthetic from KF1 for a fricking generic scifi look. Totally fails the comedy horror balance, game is not cool at all. Only Paris and Nuked are cool maps.

        the long missions are a plus because it gives a sense of desperation in the harder difficulties. it's a real survival experience where your knowledge and ability to adapt to when shit hits the fan is what will get you through it. killing floor is just a glorified shooting gallery where it really doesn't matter at all what map you play on since nearly every game will be the same experience.

        While it was still in Early Access, and suffering from a lot of dumb balance decisions and lack of content, they decided to release paid lootcrates, which told the community all it needed to know about how the game was going to go and as such everyone fricked off even before they launched the game with cut content and broken promises; looking at you Survivalist. The funny thing is that PD2 all added paid lootcrates around the same time, and it also tanked that game's community though at least it was already released and the devs had a track record of releasing new content that made people hate it less.

            you can go in loud all you want even in rundown 1, it's just stealth is more viable there. you typically stealth when you can because it saves resources, missions can be long and resources are finite. more enemies dead by melee means you have more ammo for the security checks and big fights which are in basically every mission anyway. you have to go out of your way not to shoot your gun in the game basically.

    I would rather they work on un-fricking KF2 instead of just releasing another game they're going to shit the bed with.
    KF2 had potential but every update made it clear that they weren't going anywhere with it. I could honestly stand EDARs but my final straw was whenever the weapon pool for each perk was already pretty repetitive and pitiful only to be supplemented by DLC. I know the first game had DLC weapons but the vanilla loadouts weren't as boring as KF2's.

    The soundtrack itself from KF1 is simply amazing, and walking around in offices, West London, Bedlam, and Hell even Manor, in-between rounds was chilling.
    And even after you abandoned any "fear" factor from the game, the game kept being cool. You actually mastering the game looked and felt cool. Learning how to parry, insta kill etc made you feel like a GOD.
    And that's ignoring all the custom shit from community lobbies, I spent many afternoons on that DOOM map.
    I really hope we someday get a grungy gritty CO-OP horror game again.

      KF1 is classic UE2 mod, and the earliest zombie-survival co-op shooter out there. Older than L4D, and better. Also one of the earliest "games as service" prototypes out there, without the modern cancers though. Great memes.

      I miss the slower pacing, the grittier aesthetic and the down to earth vibe of early/mid KF1 before they started to get sillier and more scifi towards the end of its run. Being at the wrong place at the wrong time on some maps in this game can be really terrifying and intense on the higher difficulties, because you really needed to find a good place to stand your ground.
      KF2 was fine I guess, but they definitely went all in on the silly and scifi pretty quickly. The faster movement and faster enemies, alongside a crosshair now being an available option completely changed the gameplay to a more run n gun style, which didn't appeal to me as much. They do have those "defend the area" objectives pop up at times, but many maps very clearly were not designed with that mechanic in mind, and end up not being worth bothering with at all. The EDAR enemies feel completely out of place, and I wish they never added them.
      I might play KF3 if its cheap or on sale. But really not that excited to get it day1.

IMO she's the closest to the original patriarch, I liked how she changed attack patterns based on what was left of her mech.     I quit KF2 after the Summer Sideshow beta. The new upgrade system made the m99 somewhat useable in the early game since you didn't have to front so much cash up front, so you could use the weaker version to pop medium zeds and slowly upgrade. Then they decided to make it an unusable $2500 meme gun like in KF1. Also that was the patch that introduced the dumbass robots. Who thought clots needed a ranged grab? I was really disappointed.

        The main problem with Cod is that the increased movement pretty much turned anything that wasn't a boss into complete fodder. In the earlier titles, getting cornered pretty much meant you were dead then and there on anything but the earliest rounds, but nowadays, as long as there is a slight gap, you can slide cancel your way out of any danger.

      KF2 eventually got to a good point but it took too long to get there and I'm expecting TW to do the same thing they dud in 2 where they abandon it and stop working on it then hire some other studio
      If there's some meaningful evolution of the gameplay that genuinely improves on 2 then I'll only check it out on release, not falling for EA again
      If they bring back EDARs then I hope they become their own faction instead as I think the aesthetic clashes too heavily with ZEDs

      TLDR; You unironically had to be there for EA KF2 and it's update journey and a KF1 player as when people complain about 2 they talk about old 2
      Majority of the anons ITT don't play KF2 and haven't for a very long time which is why most posts are about aesthetic instead of gameplay (see 1st post as easy example and past KF threads) and the guys talking about KF2 gameplay are talking about stuff that's been patched for years

      A good amount of it is also nostalgia as majority of KF1 players were millennials and KF1 was super popular in the late 00s and early 10s just like other coop games like L4D, Payday etc

      What soured KF2 is the EA choices of things starting decent but TW continually makes things worse for a time, then they copy the CS/TF2 loot system which is more aggressive than KF1's already excessive DLC, scrapped Martial Artist which was teased for a long time and replaced w Survivor which sucked, release of new bosses was very slow as most early KF2 players only had Hans until Patty update which revitalized the game for a time, extra bosses had soso reception and people were waiting for Matriarch but then EDAR happened which is when most people called it and dipped as it took too long to fix their balancing.
      Early KF2 also had aggressive zed teleporting and decentivized holding which many KF1 players didn't like and KF1 HoE was harder than 2's

      Don't have enough space to go into detailed gameplay differences like perk balance, weapon balance etc between the games

      Another anon mentions something interesting a while ago and I hope its true. They could be using the sci fi setting so as to allow time travel where you travel to different eras for way more map and weapon variety being justified, Id really like this as it would allow for vastly different maps and weapons within reason, but I doubt its true. They tried to do stuff like that with the "cyber and steampunk" in KF2 and it was awful. They need to eject the person doing that shit, everything looks so gaudy and inconsistent.

My most optimistic expectation for 3 is that it tries to be Dead Space with its armour and enviroment designs and lets people at least have some really cool outfits complete with voice filters and you play as faceless goons.     I have very few expectations for kf3 after finding out it's another sci fi game and not a campy horror comedy romp, it suggests TWI didnt learn anything from kf2's nightmare development and will probably be more of the same. Kf's charm is likely just lost to time by now, we wont ever get that pre-2010 multiplayer experience again which is what made kf1 and ut2004 shine. I do expect launch kf3 to be more fun than current day kf2 though

    people who dislike gtfo just don't have friends. it's some of the best 4p coop i've played in a long time. the amount of coordination and planning rivals mmo raids and they did a good job at bringing that kind of gameplay to a shooter. kf2 is fun for a while but it gets stale really quick after you get tired of grinding. there is no progression or unlocks in gtfo outside of cosmetics, they give you all the weapons and tools right at the start of the game and let you do whatever you want.

        i would prefer them to add some scripted objective maps. i remember killing floor 1 had a really cool resident evil hive map that had you progress in a map while doing objectives. I just get bored with it only being horde mode, it's one of the reasons why i will never care about cod zombies. you can do so much more with the assets but tripwire hasn't done anything interesting with the series.

    Welding in 2 is definitely not as powerful as 1 but it still does have uses, as long as the team is holding a position and not just running around everywhere. The doors can even be repaired back on if you have competent enough teammates

    I went pack to play KF1 after 500 hours of 2 and the main problem with 2 is how easy you can kite with every class. If you know the maps you can just run and parry forever, even kite raged SC and FPs. In 1 you can do that with berserker but other classes will get rekt fast. Also 2 lets every class spec in a way that can deal with everything, no need to specialize on certain type of zeds.

    I miss the slower pacing, the grittier aesthetic and the down to earth vibe of early/mid KF1 before they started to get sillier and more scifi towards the end of its run. Being at the wrong place at the wrong time on some maps in this game can be really terrifying and intense on the higher difficulties, because you really needed to find a good place to stand your ground.
    KF2 was fine I guess, but they definitely went all in on the silly and scifi pretty quickly. The faster movement and faster enemies, alongside a crosshair now being an available option completely changed the gameplay to a more run n gun style, which didn't appeal to me as much. They do have those "defend the area" objectives pop up at times, but many maps very clearly were not designed with that mechanic in mind, and end up not being worth bothering with at all. The EDAR enemies feel completely out of place, and I wish they never added them.
    I might play KF3 if its cheap or on sale. But really not that excited to get it day1.

    Played 1 for a while, then played 2 when 1 was dying down and I had done everything I wanted. Think I uninstalled after a couple of the weapon DLCs showed up after Matriarch was introduced.
    Didn't hate the robots or weird resistances (even though they weren't as fun to destroy), think I just got bored. I really didn't care for how KF2 felt like the same game every map. A lot of my time later on was spent playing endless on custom server maps just because it had variety.
    KF1 had easy maps and more difficult ones depending entirely on their spacing, mountainpass and biotics lab were great, they even had the funny low grav moonbase that changed how threatening the zeds were.
    KF2 has a lot of tight spaces and corridors that I just didn't care for. Plus I learned about how they would put a bunch of crap in more mobile community maps just so people would back up into them while kiting and die. It's like how they made welding a more tedious thing to even bother with when the doors have invisible durability you'd have to intuit so door welds became a thing demo did to just blow zeds up with. Overall felt like they reduced how you could play in 2 despite expanding it with the perk tree and classes. Fun while coming to grips but fell off hard later on.
    Nothing in 3 so far really gets my attention, it just looks like another KF2. KF2 at least had the charm of being different. This just feels redundant.

      That's how I feel too. I never cared about charm or aesthetics, I liked them in both 1 and 2. Being one of the few FPS in existence that lets you sprint backwards while reloading is already enough to get me to play it. KF1 and KF2 sold me on the gameplay, nothing else. I think liking KF2 is one of those things I will firmly always disagree with Ganker on. That game's fun as frick and my only major problem with it is that it's 100GB.

      I also reliably have 5 friends to play it with, so maybe it's entirely dependent on how much you can get out of the game's replayability when you've got others to play it with. If KF3 just has good gameplay like the first two games, then I'm gonna enjoy it.

        My only gripe with KF2 is I wish the progression maps from KF1 caught on. Levels felt much cooler when it wasn't just waves of zeds and buying gear. Having you progress through a map and have different challenges/unlocks was a neat concept that very few map makers actually ventured into. I wanted hundreds more YeOldeTowerBetas and way less fricking GanjaFarm420REWEEDED empty box plots to shoot in all directions.
