NTA but it would've been cool to see more of post-Lunar Cry changes in the world, like in the various cities you visited before.
Instead of just rushing into the Lunatic Pandora and finishing the game.
Tbh, I don't agree with that assessment, staff that worked on FF IX and FF X obviously would overlap, but it's not the same people as all Jap companies are divided into teams. Take it with a grain of salt, but essentially as FF VIII was finishing its development, FF IX was already at full force in production by other team and FF X was already being conceived by people who were finishing VIII.
>pretend to like
We thought you would learn this in elementary school but I guess not. Fact is not everyone has the same personality as you and no one is obligated to pretend to like something.
I won't argue against your opinion about FF8 in comparison to FFs, but for the love of god could FF8 defense force for once not bring up other FFs into the mix? The discussion is about FF8, FF7 being better or worse than other ffs means nothing.

The space stuff in FF8 was kino, honestly very overlooked and easily the best space travelling was presented in the entire series. I am a bit baffled why Final Fantasy doesn't do that anymore, especially with its leaning towards science in modern titles (aside from FF XVI which is a welcome return). The feel of gravity was just right, and Ultimecia taking over Rinoa filled me with genuine dread as a kid. It was silly and serious in all the right ways.

I admit that the scene you posted was a bit unnerving the first time. Shame it didnt last longer or culminate on a battle with her as ultimecia where you have no chance of winning. Like Beatrix battles in ff9. I liked the space part too. Was hoping it would have been a bit longer like in Grandia 2. Grandia 2 is the perfect rpg imo

>Shame it didnt last longer or culminate on a battle with her as ultimecia where you have no chance of winning
Actually, that part I am ok with, I am not a big fan of those fights and I don't think they'd fit in with Final Fantasy 8, that is trying to tell, I don't want to say mature, because god knows it's not a mature game, but I guess soap opery story? It fits more with FF9 because of its leaning towards battle fantasy stuff, so it really showcases Beatrix's power level or Kuja's power level when it happens. In Final Fantasy 8 it makes less sense because there's no point in time where you are really stronger than Ultimecia except the very end, and even that is debatable, because Griever was made to be as strong as Squall believed it to be, which could be argued what caused Ultimecia's defeat

Child me never used Rinoa in party and didn't care for her character. I just wished Squall to be happy. Adult me realized Rinoa is the best party member and also a cool girl. Would be a tough choice between her and Yuna.
>The story is arguably better than ff7 and most definitely better than 9
How the fuck do you actually believe this? It's such a laughably stupid opinion.
I don't think people pretend to like it and I even think it's fine as a game but I do think it's more hardcore fans are pretty fucking stupid just because they make liking this (and often hating on other good games like 7, 9 and 10) core parts of their personalities. FF8 has a lot of very obvious and pretty easy to spot flaws but they refuse to engage that fact. They're the only PS1 era fanboys like this as well. Most FF7 fans will admit that the materia system led to it being too samey and that there's some slightly confusing translation issues and most FF9 fans will readily admit the later half of the game has some pacing and story flaws and that the trace system sucked + battles are a tad slow but an FF8 hardcore fan will swear up and down that the game is borderline perfect and shit on you if you disagree or even if you just like an FF game more than it.
It's annoying and makes interacting with them both a pain and exhausting which is why they have an awful reputation.
Dunno what universe you live in tbh, I do agree with you pointing out flaws in FF 7-9, but I'd say it's FF 9 fans who refuse to ever acknowledge its shortcomings (like how both Materia and AP skills REQUIRE grinding mobs, which is especially painful in FF9 because you are stuck with shitty equipment in overly drawn out fights). With FF 8 I know no one who likes flying in Balamb Garden, I know no one who liked Norg plotline or defended it as making sense, I know fucking no one who likes drawing magic, like, the process itself, no one who likes GF's drawn animation and etc. And I like the game, it's just the only truly thing that you can hardly criticize about it are Laguna and soundtrack, rest is very much up to debate and have been debated by fans extensively both positively and critically.
I legitimately have never heard anyone say that FF9 is flawless or even had FF9 people shit on FF8. I know that FF9 fans are the ones who FF8 blame for everything but in FF9 threads that aren't obvious bait like the one up right now, I just see people talking about what they like.
Even this post you're making right here is defecting towards FF9 even though I mentioned 7 and 10 as well. Don't you see how fucking crazy that is or have a shred of self-awareness?
Did you miss the part where I posted everything I don't like about FF8? I brought it up EXCLUSIVELY because you brought it up and addressed your point. I would like to talk about more thing I don't like in FF8 very much so, because there is a lot, but I just addressed the point YOU brought up in your post. Do you not see the irony in doing what you are criticizing other people for doing?
>Did you miss the part where I posted everything I don't like about FF8?
I didn't disagree with any of it? So why would I comment on it? I just noted you're engaging in the stupidly common trap of shitting on FF9 out of nowhere.
I didn't ask whether you disagree or not, I am pointing out your hypocrisy. Don't talk about FF8 in relation to other FFs, it's already been brought up in this thread. What you do in trying to criticize the game is same retarded shit that retarded FF8 defense force pulls.

Whilst FF7 was an insane experience playing it for the first time, FF8 is my favourite in the PS trilogy. FF9 was shit.

FF9 gave me tonal whiplash after finish 7 and 8 back to back. I might revisit 9 now that I'm older but I hated how cartoony 9 and retarded looking Zidane was compared to Cloud and Squall.

Do you? That anon was very fair by raising criticisms for FF VIII, and why would he need to address VII and X fans? He probably doesn't see stuff like that with VII and X fans and didn't feel it was even relevant to the discussion, and through my own experience VIII fans tend to be more likeky than not X fans as well. You sound like a schizo if you're allowed to bring things up and the other person isn't allowed to address those points.
>You sound like a schizo if you're allowed to bring things up and the other person isn't allowed to address those points.

Also he directly started attacking FF9 fans specifically and all I did was say that I don't see that but I do see FF8 fans go after 9 nonstop. Maybe you see different. I don't know. I doubt it though
>Norg plotline
I liked the notion of Garden having a wealthy backer with differing motives to the headmasters of each location, but it wasn't really utilized in any interesting way, nor was it fleshed out or built up to properly.
I could buy that, ok, Norg is the producer of Balamb Garden, he brought it in the money and technically he has bigger control over staff than Cid does. But why the fuck would student fight for Norg and specifically go hail Norg left and right? Cid is literally a father figure to some of these children, probably in similar extent that he was to Squall and MCs.
That was literally my only problem with it. The division didn't make a lot of sense.
I can conjecture reasons(A military academy that produces mercs, I find highly likely there are would-be pros/assholes in it for just money and fighting and don't give a shit if the headmaster loves them or eats dicks), but no reasons are actually ever given or alluded to.
Properly handled it would've been an excellent angle though.
Like I said, wasn't handled properly. The idea of a corrupt rich backer meddling with the garden because it's not what he envisioned is great, the civil war was not great
You're basically saying the most common complaints don't count because some people like it but at the same time you're bitching at FF9 for the exact same thing since a lot of people really like the AP system and the fact that it keeps weapons useful for longer and for more than just stat upgrade
The things you listed are not the most common complaints with FF8. The most common complaints with FF8 are the stuff like the romance being forced, the side characters being pretty one note and bland and the story being a confusing mess. Also things like the gameplay encouraging you to not play it as much as possible.
None of which you mentioned and in fact you said I wasn't allowed to comment on cause >some people disagree!

>>Has the strongest Limit Break in the entire game. Lionheart? Get that weak shit outta here.
Lol'd at some of it, but this is garbage. His limit sucks ass, doesn't matter how much potential damage it can do when it's just hassle or impossible to reach that threshold.
The strongest limit break in the game is objectively selphie, but people don't like that for the same reason because scrolling to find the end is too much hassle and effort.
Know what's easy? Slapping r1 a couple times. Wanna hit the button just once instead of 6 times? Hit x on shockwave pulsar. Okay with hitting more than 6 times but not having to do reaction time inputs? Beat the shit out of the button with irvines limit. Less 'potential' damage but more actual damage in reality for effort and realistic inputs.
I don't pretend, it's my favorite FF despite its flaws. Whenever I am replaying it I am back in the childhood days but I can appreciate the themes and subtlety that went over my head when I was younger. Even if you don't like the game you must admit it has the best OST bar none, truly the peak of Uematsu and his magnum opus. It's experimental, batshit insane, but focused genius.
I think fan theories like Squall is dead or R=U improve the experience. I don't care what hacks at SE say about the theories, the company that made games I was hyped for died somewhere between Parasite Eve 3 and Final Fantasy 13. Final Fantasy 13 was the final nail for me anyway.
So as far as I can tell.
People only like FF8 because it was the only Final Fantasy they ever played, they get offended if people don't like their choice.
I think FF4 - FF7 then FF9, FF10 and FF12 are all Great games.
FF8 and FF13 are the worst in the series based entirely on the fact that both have TERRIBLE characters and absolute dogshit stories.
But I'm friends with a guy who played FF8 and refuses to play any other final fantasy and he proclaimes ff8 as the best, also friends with a guy who played ff13 first and he claims muh graphics and it doesn't matter about story.
I'm pretty biased because I find stories more interesting depending on character development.. so I love FF9 the most with FF7 and FF10 being second best.I also think Berserk might be on of the greatest Mangas I've ever read and it's purely on how Guts grows as a character.. seeing people cry about the Berserk story "Being Ruined" because Guts has almost found a new family in his party is a bitch take.
FF4 is my favorite, but I like both 8 and 13. 13-2 I will go as far to say like very much. Though they're all extremely flawed games, so there's little point in getting uptight over others not liking them.
To be quite fucking honest, no mainline FF is so bad that it's irredeemable and unenjoyable objetively, simple as. I thought 12 was garbage, but plenty of people like that one and I've never seen a reason to shit on them for it.
I think this particular post sounds way more of a "this one guy I know is like this so obviously this must apply to everyone else the world over" thing. Shit on your friend if you like, but don't blanketfag your friend's foibles on everyone else because you want handy talking points.
I've played all the PS1 era FFs and forward save for the online ones. 8 is still my favorite because it resonated with me. I really like 9 and 7, they're both good games and I enjoyed them a lot. I really loved 10, especially since I played it as a young kid(13) when the PS2 was just coming out. I didn't have one yet, so I played it at a friend's house and seeing the jump in visual fidelity just blew me away. I even really liked X-2 for the unique combat system with the on the fly job changes and costumes. XIII was dull in some places but is still absolutely gorgeous, XIII-2 did some cool stuff with its time travel plot, Lightning Returns is honestly kind of underrated, and XV is probably my least favorite despite being very pretty and having some great moments. Guess what? I still like it. It's not my favorite in the series, but it's still fun and good and captures the essence of a grand adventure.
You know, honestly, I always forget about XII. I liked the original okay, but much preferred the Zodiac Job system version. Made building out characters much more rewarding and adaptable. I've never managed to get around to finishing it, but I did enjoy the 30+ hours I spent with it. Maybe I'll knuckle up and push through over the Memorial day long weekend.
Yeah, the grind in that game gets insane, though generally, while replaying the Zodiac Age version, I try to really not use the speed up button all that much. It's still a cool game, I just wish it had more variety.
I've asked this before on here I think, but would Final Fantasy VIII actually be improved with a more traditional battle system modded in? All the spectacle of the GFs are ruined on them being able to be spammed constantly, and limit breaks are easily exploitable.
Taking away level scaling, remove draw, set certain GFs set to certain characters (Squall gets Diabolos , Quistis Quetzecoutl, Zell Ifrit, Selfie Siren, Irvine Brothers, just for a few examples), have limit breaks be built up through damage. Remove the junction system in favor of getting spells from GFs, say, Siren learns healing magic. This will make the characters feel less samey outside of their limit breaks as well, like with Selfie being a healer and Quistis inflicting status effects.
You can currently go through the game with no struggle with limit break spam and enc none. It's a fundamentally broken game in that sense.
Although we're all aged into our 30s here, so we're basically playing these games as visual novels at this point and easily slamdunking on the gameplay. Such a thing would be a moot effort.
I'm not too expert at modding, but even without the full source code available I don't think this will be too arduous and impossible. You're just forking off the battle system and stats to new values. You're not really adding anything much new, you're just changing around the variables for battles, a few menu options, all the assets and animations are all just being called up at different times.
The guy who made the New Threat mod for FF7 actually made a mod for FF8 (Ragnarok) that makes some changes like the ones you suggested, but I've never actually tried it and the fact that it never gets mentioned whilst New Threat had a big wave of attention at one point indicates that it probably didn't work out
Interesting, it's a third of the way to what I had in mind, but made the most fundamental balancing changes. But yeah, it just seems a good 13 years too late. Something like that coming out in 2009 would mean this would be a Final Fantasy Ragnarok thread instead of an original.
He isn't done with ff8 from last I heard. He was planning to wrap up new threat with a final version and then move on to creating a similar mod for 8, which would no doubt take many years just like new threat did to get to this point.
>I've asked this before on here I think, but would Final Fantasy VIII actually be improved with a more traditional battle system modded in?
I personally don't think so. I don't exactly understand why breaking the game and being rewarded for it by the game is a point of criticism, most people struggle with FF VIII first time they play it, second time you play it you know what you are doing, but people for some reason always forget about their first experience with the game. No one goes through the game by spamming limit breaks first time they play, but once you realize that is a genuine way to play the game with risk (of having low HP) with reward (of doing insane damage), it's like, yeah, why wouldn't that be a viable option to play the game in the sea of other options to play the game that are also rewarded?
FF8 threads used to be very comfy but then the shitposters noticed them too and now we have all this falseflag I am merely pretending to love/hate the game mom come here see how I riled up these people against each other? Yes you did my big boy you are a fucking mastermind.
Originates from Ganker. There is a dedicated FF lore schizo who would frequently appear in FF8 threads to muse on connections between certain aspects of lore and themes of various FF games, usually using some esoteric aspect of FF8 as a starting point before making a massive web of connections between the various games in the series. It seems he pissed someone off who decided to start going after FF8 threads, which didn't really work in Ganker because people ignored it, so the shitposter moved to Ganker where it's a lot easier to rile people up.
Poor schizo-kun did not know what would happen as a result of his musings
I think the moment someone refers to other FFs in these threads the entire thing goes to shit. It stops being a genuine criticism, but specific FF fanboys just push their favorite games at the expense of others, instead of discussing actual plot points in the game.
Ganker is like that in general, shitflinging at each other and comfy threads are becoming more rare by the day. If people were smart they'd ignore OP's bait and turn this into an actual VIII thread, but Ganker loves to seethe. I question why I even come here at times.
The draw and junction systems are even dumber than ff2's mechanics and the party is pretty fucking boring. There's a reason people only every bring up Squall and Rinoa.
Look, I love FF9 but the game is flawed for 1 fatal reason.
The combat is a slog and theres not much you can do with it, unlike other (superior) FF games, its probably the weakest gameplay wise >No job system >No Class Mixing (aside from a few specific quirks between characters) >Combat takes ages to happen >Overdrive system is just a random "I win" button.
Its a great experience, but only one you play once at thats it, because this game has little to no replay value due to how slow it is, the first half of disc1 is just intros and cinematics with a tough boss fight here and there.
people pretend to hate this game because "MUH JUNCTION/LEVEL SCALING IS DUMB" when really the game is bad because every character aside from Laguna is a drooling retard.
Laguna is a good and fun character, but he is one of the biggest drooling retards. That's literally the appeal of the character: a huge idiot who stumbles through life and accidently makes things happen.
Laguna's actual point in the story is to be a drooling retard. That's honestly his appeal. He literally fucks around the world for Squall to unfuck his shit essentially.
I do like it. I know the gameplay is mechanically easy as shit to completely break but the story and characters are great and the cinematography is godtier to this day.
This fucking blew my mind back then, and it still leaves me awestruck now.
>the section with the squall vs jetpack guy minigame where their models are cut out
always looks so jarring having the centrepiece missing from that part of the sequence
you even see their shadows at one point
Contrarians
This was the one universally recognized as the worst (at least until 13 14 and 15 happened) and for good reason
It's fine to like it, everyone has their preferences, but there's no objective metric with which you can argue that it's secretly the best one and everyone else are just plebs
Basically, they don't have personalities so they adopt a contrarian opinion to feel special, it's pretty common on this website.
I want to fuck this and fuck it to a point where GFs erase all her memories up to a point where the first memory she could possibly have is only memory of my dick so it becomes the memory she associates the start of her existence.
Peak comfy setting. The characters aren't as annoying as people pretend they are, especially if you realize this game was meant for 11-21 year olds. Stellar soundtrack, Uematsu at his best and inarguably one of the top 3 (the only argument is where it is compared to 7 and 10). The series had yet to fully devolve into cringe tranime shit, the character and location designs are simple yet memorable.
The flaws are:
Lacklustre story - Square tried to do something more complex than they had done previously and were heavily influenced by the trippy new age hippie scifi fads of the late 90s. It was fine they were willing to swing for the fences but Japs suck at complicated story writing and a simple franchise was absolutely not the place to test out a new writing.
The overly complicated levelling system - whatever genius at Square that thought having enemies level up alongside you was a good idea in a menu based RPG game should be kicked in the head. If that's what they wanted they should've gone all the way and done away with levels completely and just had an AP system.
GF and magic system - Draw and consumable magic is interesting (not fun but interesting) as a singular character concept, not the magic system for your entire game. The GFs are integral to the plot (they shouldn't have been) but using them is tedious AND pointless. The game does everything it can to encourage you to ignore fights and never do anything but use the Attack command. Jap autism at its most unbridled.
Triple Triad - Potentially fun as evidenced by how many people continue to play it and the dedicated games for it. In the main game itself, dogshit with blatantly cheating AI and rules that stack the game against the player that are hard to avoid unlocking and extremely hard to roll back. Reminds me a lot of modern day indie devs who all seem to be attracted to making card games without understanding what makes something like MtG fun.
Am I only one who thinks Final Fantasy 8's backgrounds in particular (and in a lot of ways Zanarkand actually) look heavily inspired by Phantom Menace, specifically by planet Naboo? Maybe it's just my memory association because at the time, those were the biggest things, Final Fantasy and Star Wars and Final Fantasy never was ashamed to borrow from Star Wars, but also, at the same time, Phantom Menace just wasn't out when FF8 was already on my PS1.
Nobody is falling for your shitty false flags.
I don't "pretend to like it", I actually do. However there are a few things I don't like about it. The draw system was annoying and the pacing took a bit to get going but overall it was good.

At least that one is objectively correct.
IX is mid. You can tell they were saving all the good stuff for X and used IX as a glorified tech demo to hone their skills for the next gen hardware.
Hate zedan, the guys a dick and in the end he has a happy ending whilst every ff game has a sad ending. Fuck zedan
>pretend to like
We thought you would learn this in elementary school but I guess not. Fact is not everyone has the same personality as you and no one is obligated to pretend to like something.
But why would you choose to like bad game? Do you have a bad personality?
That's an oxymoron. It's not a bad game, you just have different (shitty) tastes that don't allow you to appreciate it.
>Game I like is good because I like it
The story is arguably better than ff7 and most definitely better than 9, the music is the best in the psx games and the character designs looked cool.
I won't argue against your opinion about FF8 in comparison to FFs, but for the love of god could FF8 defense force for once not bring up other FFs into the mix? The discussion is about FF8, FF7 being better or worse than other ffs means nothing.
okay, story is really compelling and contrary to what a lot of people say I actually liked the dynamic between Squall and Rinoa.
>Compelling story
>Rinoa isn't even the witch even though all points towards that and it's only way for story to make sense
>Final boss is literal literally who
>I misinterpreted the events of the game therefore it is bad
sorry you are retarded?
I last played this 15 years ago and finished it few weeks back. I didnt remember seeing this anywhere but you can bet your ass i saw it the last time. Its just for few frames where the helmet breaks and it took me by surprise like what the fuck. I remember the squall with no face like everyone else does but that i didnt remember.
In Final Fantasy 8 it makes less sense because there's no point in time where you are really stronger than Ultimecia except the very end, and even that is debatable, because Griever was made to be as strong as Squall believed it to be, which could be argued what caused Ultimecia's defeat
>i can't understand thematic parallels
FF8 is a story wasted on gaming retards. Nomura and Nojima should've made a book.
>I actually liked the dynamic between Squall and Rinoa
Child me never used Rinoa in party and didn't care for her character. I just wished Squall to be happy. Adult me realized Rinoa is the best party member and also a cool girl. Would be a tough choice between her and Yuna.
>The story is arguably better than ff7 and most definitely better than 9
How the fuck do you actually believe this? It's such a laughably stupid opinion.
Cope, FFXIfag. Only thing worse than XI is XIII.
>Game I don't like is bad because I don't like it
Yes
>everything I don't like is bad
>therefore no one else can like what i hate

Whilst FF7 was an insane experience playing it for the first time, FF8 is my favourite in the PS trilogy. FF9 was shit.
Hello me.
OH FUCK IS THAT AN ENEMY WITH FIRAGA? TIME TO DRAW 30 TIMES IN A ROW, LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOO, IM FFFFFFFUCKING DRAWWWWWWWWWWING
Why would you do that when you could just refine the million magic stones you get in seconds?
Because being rewarded for learning game's mechanics and having non-linear protection is poor game design according to Ganker
because it's good. not as good as 7 but still very good
FF8 has the best music.
Because liking it makes you chad
I love the game though. It's my first RPG at a time when my understanding of video game were just shmups and platformers like Spyro.
That must've been a wild ride.
>I am pointing out your hypocrisy.
There's no hypocrisy in my post. Do you even know what that word means? Also you're going full schizo and blaming me for stuff I never said. I never laid out my criticisms of the game just said that I had some but you're acting like I'm being hypocritical somehow. Also now I'm not allowed to compare FF8 to other FF games? Where is that logic? You don't get to just go
>well you can't comment on this or think this or else you're wrong!
This is why FF8 fans are exhausting
I don't even consider myself an FF8 fan, the game is very very fucking flawed. It's just what you are saying is same exactly justification as these retarded posts
And you sense not a hint of irony.
FF9 gave me tonal whiplash after finish 7 and 8 back to back. I might revisit 9 now that I'm older but I hated how cartoony 9 and retarded looking Zidane was compared to Cloud and Squall.
You sound paranoid and unhinged
>Don't you see how fucking crazy that is or have a shred of self-awareness?
That's literally the fucking FF8 guy doing that shit. Are you retarded?
No, it's this guy right here
. Is this you?
Where did I say people were pretending to like FF8 or that any FF game was flawless or that you weren't allowed to address points from any other one?
Where did I say you thought they were pretending to like it? You mentioned 7, 9, 10, and anon addressed 9 because you addressed it. You're basically saying "you're not allowed to refute my statements" by doing this. El retardo.
>You mentioned 7, 9, 10, and anon addressed 9 because you addressed it.
Gotcha, I see what you're saying. But the reason I called it out is because FF8 fans are utterly obsessed with shitting on 9 and blaming it's fans for everything. Are you saying I'm wrong about that? Cause I can point to multiple examples in this thread
NTA, but your point was already addressed, hence why you were called out for hypocrisy
Okay you're pretending to be retarded and trying to gas light me and claim I said shit I never did. I get it then. Fine. Honest discussion is impossible on Ganker anyways and this was a bait thread from the start.
Actually what do you mean, what do you mean, this anon explained it sufficiently and you never addressed it
and your point is literally
>well, these anons do this thing
Which doesn't give any explanation for what you are doing or addresses the criticism the anon made.
Shitposters. People who type like that only want to cause frustration in people, and it's questionable if people like that even played any of the games they're talking about.
>FF8 fans are utterly obsessed with shitting on 9 and blaming it's fans for everything. Are you saying I'm wrong about that?
Yes, actually. Once again you are unable to think of the game critically outside of its relation to other games and also call out people who attempt to refute points you brought up.
>You're basically saying the most common complaints don't count
I AM SAYING THEY COUNT, how did you even come to that conclusion?
The things you listed are not the most common complaints with FF8. The most common complaints with FF8 are the stuff like the romance being forced, the side characters being pretty one note and bland and the story being a confusing mess. Also things like the gameplay encouraging you to not play it as much as possible.
None of which you mentioned and in fact you said I wasn't allowed to comment on cause
>some people disagree!
>None of which you mentioned and in fact you said I wasn't allowed to comment on cause
Because it isn't what bothers me off the top of my head and I just listed some things that ALSO bother me, if it bothers you that's fucking fair and I never said you can't talk about them, I just happened to not fucking mention them so I don't know what the fuck is your problem

He got a face tattoo before Tyson. Maybe Mike was trying to be Zell.

You are not allowed to like things in this website. Also, why did you skip 12?
You know, honestly, I always forget about XII. I liked the original okay, but much preferred the Zodiac Job system version. Made building out characters much more rewarding and adaptable. I've never managed to get around to finishing it, but I did enjoy the 30+ hours I spent with it. Maybe I'll knuckle up and push through over the Memorial day long weekend.
Yeah, the grind in that game gets insane, though generally, while replaying the Zodiac Age version, I try to really not use the speed up button all that much. It's still a cool game, I just wish it had more variety.

here we go again
This is some deep lore that has no connection to reality or what's happening in the thread.
Believe it or not the entire franchise has ridden off of pretending to be liked. I’ve never known anyone that genuinely liked FF.
Look, I love FF9 but the game is flawed for 1 fatal reason.
The combat is a slog and theres not much you can do with it, unlike other (superior) FF games, its probably the weakest gameplay wise
>No job system
>No Class Mixing (aside from a few specific quirks between characters)
>Combat takes ages to happen
>Overdrive system is just a random "I win" button.
Its a great experience, but only one you play once at thats it, because this game has little to no replay value due to how slow it is, the first half of disc1 is just intros and cinematics with a tough boss fight here and there.
This is an FF8 thread though.
Yeah but people are parroting about ff9 and im not making another thread for it.
also both have tetra master (or triple triad if you'd like) so they are related.
Squall is such a fucking gay
>daily FF9 fan hating on FF8
Why don't you just talk about FF9?
Oh, you get no replies because the game stinks.
people pretend to hate this game because "MUH JUNCTION/LEVEL SCALING IS DUMB" when really the game is bad because every character aside from Laguna is a drooling retard.
Just how long was Rinoa holding on off the side of the garden for?
Everything around Galbadia was incredible. The opening sequence of the garden with transition to gameplay and then the mellow music was so good.
At 43:40
People that like kusoges exist, its not that mind boggling

So darling there you were
With that look on your face
Balamb garden is peak homework music too.
The game is beautiful.
If you were to describe the theme of the game, what would it be? I honestly think it's inheritance essentially.
Overall, FF8 is okay. Hating it is a meme.
It looks good, I really couldn't imagine how people were able to create such fantasy world when played it first.
what is with all of the ff8 bait threads? did some youtuber make a video or something
i'm not pretending, you retard
I hope Squall enjoys Seifer's sloppy seconds
