It's insane how non-Nintendo exclusivity is rapidly becoming a relic, just from this generation alone. Xbox refused to address the actual problems that sunk them in the last generation in favor of lazy expensive grand distractions, and Playstation hyped up the PS5 as a "luxury" brand which backfired on them for software buyership due to scalping driving greater PC adoption and maintaining last-gen platforms.

Is the entire point of a console having exclusives?
    I don't have an Xbox.
    I don't play my PS5 because I don't care about the exclusives.
I can play any pc, multiplat and emulator on my rog ally. But oled and ease of use from my switch or Steam Deck would be nice.

I'll add the important factor that I don't have a nice and convenient big screen setup.
So why would I want an Xbox?
It could be a gaming pc alternative for low cost.

Xbox handheld with supreme comfort, oled,as easy to use as a console but can also be docked as a pc.

If I get a good screen setup for my bedroom I might get an Xbox for being easier to use than rog ally.

      >Is the entire point of a console having exclusives?
No really. Its more the convenience and better option for multiplayer gaming.
I prefer console gaming to PC gaming and as you would know on PC games can have a myriad of issues, where on console "they just work" 99.9% of the time.

I don't buy either of their brands of useless DRMbox, so I don't really care. Exclusives don't really make sense in the modern day though, as in you're intentionally leaving money on the table by making a game exclusive. Obviously they do this in order to protect their platform and thereby get more money indirectly though a larger user base, but if they estimate that simply selling all their games on all platforms will actually bring in more cash then the decision is logical. We've seen Sony basically do the same thing by beginning to port to Windows, they're just leaving money on the table by not doing this.

Nintendo is the only company left still going strong with exclusives and that's because their first-party games output is so strong that their franchises have major fanbases still, plus they're likely operating on much smaller budgets and can make a good return on investment without selling to the widest audience possible.

      >Is the entire point of a console having exclusives?
Consoles are mostly an outdated product category. The point of consoles used to be actually having a device which can play video games in your home, because that was not something ubiquitous when consoles first appeared. Exclusives were a natural consequence of the huge differences in hardware between consoles, nowadays they're simply a business decision and as such if the business decides exclusivity is less profitable then it goes away.

    What he's really saying is:

    >I’ve come to make an announcement: Satya Nadella’s a b***h-ass motherfricker, he pissed on my fricking hardware business! That's right, he took his CEO-FRICKIN' powers and told us to ditch making Xbox consoles and go third party, and he said his new plan was "this big", and I said "That's disgusting", so I’m making a callout post on my Twitter.com: Satya Nadella, you've got a small vision, It's the size of this walnut except WAY smaller. And guess what? Here's what my Xbox division looks like now! That's right, baby, no hardware, no exclusives, no audience — look at that, it looks like two bankrupt companies and a dead brand! He killed our console business, so guess what, I'm gonna kill our entire gaming community! That's right, this is what you get: my SUPER REGRETFUL DECISION!! Except I'm not gonna just abandon Xbox, I'm gonna go bigger! I'm abandoning the entire gaming industry, and you know what? I'll do it all before the Xbox Games Showcase!! How do you like that, shareholders?! I'VE ABANDONED THE GAMING INDUSTRY, YOU IDIOTS!! You have twenty-three days before the stocks hit rock bottom! Now get outta my fricking sight, before I pull the plug on all of us!

Except nintendos exclusives have outsold almost everything on Xbox Playstation and pc and the only stuff that comes close is viral marketed trash amd even then (DD2, helldivers to name a few) don't even make it that far
      >Eric granny coping amd seething as always
It took 6 platforms for the Witcher 3 to sell as many copies as mario kart 8d amd animal crossing sold 32 million. That's roughly 25 million more than the last of us 2.
What's it like being wrong all the time eric lol

WTF are you trying to say?
Nintendo consoles, well people buy them for nintendo games, the other consoles and PC, people dont buy them specifically for the exclusives the platform has.
Meaning say a large % of the platforms userbase dont even play the exclusives on that platform, as well as the playerbase is spread out over multiple generes, where nintendo players, more importantly purchasers of the games often all buy the new nintendo games regardless.
MK8 is a good example, I would expect most people who own a switch to have that game.
Shit I have that game, only played it a handful of times.
All games I got on all nintendo consoles I have are nintendo exclusives.
I have 4 of the top 5 Nintendo Switch games and only really played BotW and mario odyssey once, smash and MK a handful of pick up and play games (botw I played more on WiiU)

You do understand that MS and sony are in a different market though, They are third party platforms, and that is what they are competing at. They compete to be "the" platform the customers buy to play the third party games (then take a % of third party devs profits)
Nintendo are primarily first party developers.
            Its a big difference.
Sure MS and sony have some first party studios and make some exclusives to sell their consoles but its the opposite with nintendo where they make "all" of the good games on their consoles and then third party devs put their games on the console.
If sony for example changed and tried to do what MS is trying to do, buy up (or open ans start) first party studios, that will eat into their profits majorly and also get them competing with nintendo, which they will lose as nintendo has all the strong brand IPs.

You will see next year a massive spike in specifically PS5 sales as GTA6 will be MS/sony exclusive.

              >You will see next year a massive spike in specifically PS5 sales as GTA6 will be MS/sony exclusive.
And it will all be Rockstar employees, fudged numbers, bots, and glowies because after gta5 got re-released a dozen times only the truly moronic among the moronic will fall for that

As for the rest of that shit it's not a different market or competition at all because data suggest and proves most gamers are on pc and Nintendo now which is quantifiable by sales, steam charts. Steam hardware surveys, and nintendos investor meetings where they actually provide charts and hard numbers. I find it laughable that you claim to know something by claiming nintendo Is a different market but the latest final fantasy can't even beat the shittiest switch exclusive. What you mean to say is xbox amd Sony are failed competitors. Valve and nintendo won homosexual.

Sony won at the E3 xbone announcement. There was no comping back for xbox after that. They have just been dragging a corpse behind.
Frick knows why they are even trying to release a new version of the series X either. The original version was not selling anyway.
To add insult to injury the series S is dragging the generation leap, on top of the pandemic effects on the industry and gen leap.

Xbox hasn’t had any exclusives I’d want except State if Decay 2 and I doubt they’re going to port games that old. When they mean exclusives, they mean trash like Starfield or modern Halo/Forza.

Imagine a classic Forza collection, though. Forza 1-4 with all dlc included and online play restored. That would take the fattest shit all over Gran Turismo 7.

Exclusives are an anti-consumer practice which only benefit the console platform (and maybe the developer to an extent).
If you're defending them and you don't have a vested interest in the console platform, you're unironically moronic.

      Pretty much

Well from a business PoV they would have to be moronic to then cut their sales of an existing franchise by 70% by trying to not bring it on the competitions hardware.
How will they ever reap their investment back if they do that.

  19. 1 week ago

If you think about it, making your competitor sell your stuff on their console for only 30% of the cut while you take 70% is an advanced form of cucking.
