      literally a cheaters/RMTers wet dream

I remember a few years ago an article came out that said 30% of players on all the big shooter games were using hacks of some kind, a fricking third. This was actually later confirmed by hackers on here who'd post their hacks and were easily able to spot other people hacking too. Seeing 60% of a Tarkov lobby cheating was fricking wild though, imagine paying money for a game and outright being at a disadvantage from day 1. Or thinking Dr. Disrespect can somehow solve a problem actual corporations haven't been able to fix for over 20 years.

brainlet here, how are 5 different companies supposed to incorporate the same item(name, assigned values/properties, models/icons) into their games without getting into a gigantic copyright dispute not to mention the logistic nightmare of patching it in one game without breaking it in the others?

NFTs also have copyright, just because you own it that doesn't give you the right to do anything you want with it. If game A dropped Shitty Gacha Orbs, just because a player owns them that doesn't mean game A doesn't have copyright over them. Game B still wouldn't be able to use them.

Some people are surprised to heart his. They believe that if you buy an NFT you get to fully own whatever you bought, but that's not true.
There's a problem with this post though, and with

This could have been us, bros! Why do you hate the future so much!?

too. NFTs by definition are non fungible. If you have 5 Orbs, then each orb is mutually interchangeable by any other identical orb. If you have identical things they're not NFTs. It's ridiculous how little NFT evangelists even know about the thing they're preaching about.

60% that got caught. At that time he did not know that there was another tell for hackers to test each other, and he could only test a few people in each lobby, since he would either die before testing everyone or the hackers would die/bail. So its more like a minimum of 60% of the lobbies have cheaters, most likely a lot more.

The blockchain can't, but that only benefits the cheaters. Since they will cheat in the game to get more loot, and once they get the loot its on the blockchain tied to them, so you can't even reset their accounts to get the items away from cheaters.

No? Because the still has to verify that you actually extracted with the item before the nft transfer is made. The game is not literally running on the blockchain lol

            Anonymous

You don't catch a cheater after a match, its a long process usually. Only the most obvious hacks get caught instantly. You would need a week long or even months long review process, and nobody is going to play a game where they have to wait for weeks for their items.
Honestly, what Dr Diss is trying to do and involve NFTs in, is completely pointless. Like 100% pointless. You already had games that allowed for players to trade items that they got, worth thousands of dollars ingame... D3. In that game it all came crashing down because the drop rates/balance of the game felt off, as if it were made with the cash AH in mind. But it did not need NFT/blockchain involvment. Since all items need unique internal IDs anyway (standard procedure i mentioned before to prevent item dupes). As a dev you can make that ID visible if you want, which might help hackers/cheaters a bit, but its not hard to make unique items in a game. Honestly, I love the idea of btc actually being used. But this NFT in videogames is just the wroong tool for the wrong job. They are trying to hammer in a nail with an egg.

Name one advantage of NFT/Blockchain for cross game items over just having a single dedicated server that stores the information along with a key.
All of the stuff NFTbros claim that NFT would allow are done better already by Amiibo.

You get items and bonuses in multiple different games. You can sell or trade your amiibo to others. If a company just sold an amiibo like service by just gave you a password and let you trade/sell it, it would be functionally identical to NFT plots. Except it's better because NFTs have inherent drawbacks like transaction speed and power consumption that make them inferior. I seriously don't see a single reason why crypto techology is required in any way, shape, or form in order to do cross-game items.

I suppose my idea is something more like Counter Strike: GO items then. My point though is that block chain is not required for this kind of system whatsoever, as this guy also pointed out

Imagine thinking you need a blockchain for this.
You know what the best part for me is about this shit. Its that i know that the blockchain will make it a failure. Its set in stone. Because of the blockchain tech cheating will be the only way to play. Since once you obtain an item, the dev can't just wave a magic item and joink it from you from the blockchain. Its literally built on tech that objectively makes it worse. Since you know...just like in counter strike you don't need blockchain to find items that a worth a frickton and sell them on a marketplace.

And that matters because? Oh wait it does not. In reality only rarity matters.
Hell even in dota 2 you can technically get unique items by having them signed by a pro player for example. In the real world look no further than the MTG card market. The value most of the time is not on how unique a card is (there are some fringe collectors who collect failed prints), its rarity + condition. And you don't need a blockchain for either of those.
Also just if you are that worried about an item being unique. Im pretty sure CS go items have a unique ID identifier built into them as well (which technically makes them unique), since that is generally how devs combat duping. If the server detects 2 items with the same ID it delets one. Which you know, makes the items as unique as the NFTs.

NFTs aren't unique. They make a lot of them and any difference in how much they're worth is completely arbitrary which is stupid for a video game because the players determine it's worth by first how rare it is and then if it actually matters in terms of gameplay usefulness. You already have items in games like CSGO and TF2 be worth real money. An NFT game doesn't need NFTs at all.

The "uniqueness" is arbitrary, dimwit. Your fricking druggie monkey picture is exactly the same as all the other druggie monkey pictures except he's wearing a baseball cap instead of headband. In a video game especially there are only so many variables. Like the unusual hats in TF2 where it's the players who decide which are worth more based on those variables. NFT games TRY to fix prices in the games, but players don't give a shit and the games always fail.

                Anonymous

Fricking this. God there are some midwits in this conversation. There's nothing about the NFT conversation that mandates the object it's attached to is one of a kind. The NFT itself, which can be seen as a unique ID, a certificate of authenticity and ownership of an asset, is unique, but it doesn't mean it represents a unique object. This is why one of the potentially useful applications of the tech is game licensed and being able to sell them as you could a second hand copy. That conversation wouldn't exist if it meant only one copy of a video game was ever made.

It’s just an independent system to verify ownership and to trade your items. If it doesn’t need to use NFTs, than it doesn’t matter it uses them too.

                Anonymous

That's what's stupid about it. You already own the item in the game because it's in your inventory. You can even sell it for real money too. It's just a way for developers to say "This item is worth 100,000 dollars. Why? Because we say so."

Blockchain is useful – in any application, not just gaming – only when everything is decentralized. The entire point of blockchain is decentralization. If even one single link of the chain is centralized, blockchain is worthless: you could achieve the same exact results, but more efficiently, with a fully-centralized system.

Will these NFT games be open-source, so everyone can host its own servers and use the blockchain as a shared database? No? What's the point of using a blockchain then. At any point the company can close the servers down and there will be a worthless decentralized database for a game that doesn't even exist.

That actually sounds neat, NFTs could be used on private servers after the game goes down.
But what prevents private servers from printing obscene amounts of new NFTs at rate higher than others?

If you run a private server you can spawn whatever you want for whoever you want, why care about bringing NFTs in?

          >But what prevents private servers from printing obscene amounts of new NFTs at rate higher than others?
NTA but if the game is open-source, then nothing would prevent that. Maintainers and developers of that server would have to be careful not to put too many items that do too much OP shit, for the reasons listed at the end of here

bingo. if the game goes offline, or your item either gets nerfed or simply deleted because the devs and/or players discover it's incredibly imbalanced, any and possibly all value is lost. if there ARE incredibly overpowered items that frick up the game balance and the devs don't change anything about them in order to maintain their perceived value, the game will be called a "pay2win fricking mess" and barely anyone will continue playing, thus driving the value down as well. If the devs perform a miracle (they wont) and launch the game with perfect item balance, those items had better at least have the novelty of looking cool as frick or something, because they won't be very valuable in the first place if there's not much gameplay advantage to using them. this is literally a lose/lose/lose situation.

if it's not open source but has the ability to be hosted on whatever server(s) anyone wants, then you just have a game that will never receive updates or new NFTs.

Actually it's worthless in both scenarios
A decentralized scenario allows forking of the system, which let's you create duplicate systems that can talk via simple forward effort manipulation and allow dupping of all transactions
It's why coins are so fricked up, you can create competing coins in subnetworks and confuse the network
It really doesn't take many bad actors to do this. It just hasn't been done much because of the physical effort required.

          >But what prevents private servers from printing obscene amounts of new NFTs at rate higher than others?
Nothing, I guess. But a rare NFT you found on a respectable server would be more valuable than an item – even if it looks exactly the same – you basically minted for yourself.
Same reason why an original Italian high-fashion purse sells for $2000, and its Chinese knock-off sells for $50 even if it's basically a perfect copy. Same reason why in TCGs, a card printed 20 years ago is more valuable than a modern re-print, even if it's the same exact card.

All I'm saying is, current implementations of blockchain in videogames are worthless, it's the Steam Marketplace but slower. But if everything was decentralized, including the code of the game itself, it could at least offer something unique that can't be replicated with centralized means. Not necessarily better, but different.

If it's on the blockchain then no, they can't remove the item because the blockchain can't be tampered with unless you have access to every computer and server that information is stored on, which is ludicrously unlikely.
And even if they could, that would just trigger a mass evacuation of the game because you've shown everyone their items can be removed from them at any time which goes against the entire purpose of the decentralized storage.

You do realize that you don't need NFTs for that right? See no further than blizzards D3 real money auction house. Worked like a charm, people made thousands on it selling items. But it was the wrong type of game to have it implemented.
This tarkov shit would be perfect for a rmah like that, but they have to drop the NFT angle for it, since its more trouble than its worth.

Presumably the only worth the NFT from the game has is whatever it does in the game though? Therefor the devs could just remove the associated item or frick it up to tank its value

Yes, but that would frick the value of the item for literally everyone. Since if i get the idea right, the point of this game is that NFTs are actually usable items like guns. Being nfts makes the items more valuable because once they are yours the developers can’t delete it.

            Anonymous

But the whole value of the item comes from it being in the game. The dev still can delete your item by making it not work in the game. So now you have a NFT that does nothing, a jumble of code that for all intents of purposes is useless.

Of course you don't. Their main argument for NFTs seems to be that "you can use the item in a future game down the line" which is A) moronic and B) can already be done without NFTs anyway.

the industry back then already sunk an ungodly amount of money into NFT/blockchain scams integration back when they were still being pushed as "the future" "the new big modern thing" "guaranteed money" and they were only considered a shady model that could work and benefit the consumer.
What we're starting to see now is the result of those investments that had MASSIVE profits projected back when the population was being indoctrinated into the validity of NFTs, and they are only going to double, triple down in their efforts to force you to use those systems, no matter if you like it or not, because their profits are going to be unprecedented if they succeed, even dwarfing the spike of systems like battlepasses, dlc and gachashit

csgo is a game with millions of concurrent players that has successfully existed for over 10 years now, which itself is the successor to a game that was wildly popular before that. There are 2 problems with these new NFT games: the first is that they are all half-baked to fricking hell, they all suck dick because money was the thing that was at the forefront of the creator's mind instead of just trying to make a good game. the second problem is that the blockchain isn't actually required to make a type of game where items can have real-world value and be transferred to other games, which leads me to believe the number one and only reason anyone wants to develop these games is simply to artificially inflate the value of whatever token is attached to whatever chain they're using, thus either making money, or at least not losing as much as what they paid into it. I have no doubt this Disrespect character is holding bags right now for one or more shitcoin and is trying to recoup some loss.

        Anonymous

Is someone actually going to spend 10k on an item that might give them an advantage in a game that will inevitably have less than 100 concurrent players at its peak because no one else wants to play another failure NFT game? It doesn't get a valuation of 10k from thin air, some moron has to buy it from me after deciding either A. the item is worth 10k to keep and use in this shit game, or B. the item is worth 10k now, but some other moron might pay more for it later, either to keep using in the game or to sell for even more.

bingo. if the game goes offline, or your item either gets nerfed or simply deleted because the devs and/or players discover it's incredibly imbalanced, any and possibly all value is lost. if there ARE incredibly overpowered items that frick up the game balance and the devs don't change anything about them in order to maintain their perceived value, the game will be called a "pay2win fricking mess" and barely anyone will continue playing, thus driving the value down as well. If the devs perform a miracle (they wont) and launch the game with perfect item balance, those items had better at least have the novelty of looking cool as frick or something, because they won't be very valuable in the first place if there's not much gameplay advantage to using them. this is literally a lose/lose/lose situation.

            Anonymous

Really can't wait to see what happens when an NFT game does happen to get popular and the developers are faced with the dilemma of either nerfing overpowered items for the sake of gameplay balance or risk pissing off the players who gave them tons of money for them. Hope they enjoy getting firebombed by the guy who lost thousand of dollars because the value tanked.

And? If the blockchain for your 100k item is "AADH$23ADAFOGGGIUA43991JJFL1FJIWW38KFJ"
And the game knows that it has to translate that string into a pristine quality karambit knife with oil filter colours... what do you care about if its not tied to a company. It has literally 0 use and value if its not tied to the company.

            i said it earlier.
the items appear to be functional in-game items, not just cosmetics. if they're worth a lot, its because they're extremely useful, probably overpowered. if the devs have to nerf or remove the functionality of those items due to gameplay balance, the value plummets. if the devs do nothing to the functionality in order to maintain the value, it will be perceived as a janky p2w game and lose players, which will also plummet the value because who's going to find a particular item valuable in a game with few players? and if there is perfect game balance at the start, meaning the items don't give all that much of an advantage, then nobody's going to pay more than a few bucks for them. on top of that, if the servers go down for whatever reason (will probably be due to lack of player interest), those items are now gone. it doesnt matter that the receipts symbolizing ownership exist eternally, the money someone spent for an item is gone for life. this does not represent a smart financial investment which is why even 60 IQ morons aren't buying into this shit. and on top of everything else: once again, blockchain technology is literally not even a little bit required for any of this shit to exist.

because streamers are going to be in on the plan and trading it between each other for big sums of money (without money actually changing pockets), it'll create an illusion that the value IS there
and you know twitch viewers are dumb enough to pay up for stupid shit like this

at least half (and I think more) of those ultra rare drops will be funneled into the economy by the developers on fake accounts, so they can give them to other people in on the scam for free (while claiming they were traded for hundreds of thousands)

For six years literally every single major prize was won by one dude who happened to be chief of security at the third party company that administered the game. Even disregarding how terrible this sounds, name 1 part of this that couldn't be accomplished with the same centralized server architecture we have been using for the past 3 decades. Steam could do this with inventory items if they wanted. The blockchain legitimately doesn't bring anything new to games.

        Anonymous

brainlet here, how are 5 different companies supposed to incorporate the same item(name, assigned values/properties, models/icons) into their games without getting into a gigantic copyright dispute not to mention the logistic nightmare of patching it in one game without breaking it in the others?

          Anonymous

You don't need to store all that stuff on the server. Conceptually, you just store the item ID and the owner, and let all 5 games access that. The only thing they need to agree on is which ID points to which item. Then stuff like, how much power the Orb of Brilliance generates in Spacefield vs how much bonus damage it gives when used on your staff in The Elder Chains is stuff that is handled by the game locally, they can all be patched independently of each other. It would work the exact same way with NFTs.
Now if you're asking how 5 companies would agree on this, legally and otherwise, yes, it's extremely unlikely, which is exactly why it hasn't happened yet. Blockchain really doesn't change any of this.

It's a raid boss though. Presumably it's on a several day respawn timer.

          Anonymous

Either that boss can only be killed by a single player or group of players once every few days, which is terrible design, or any number of players can kill it one time each in that period, in which case you'll easily still see hundreds of total kills a day in an MMO setting, leading to the item being close to worthless.
          Either way it's shit.

As likely as it is that the guy just doesn't know shit about video games, I always prefer the implication that merely challenging this endgame super challenging raid in an already pay to win game costs several thousand dollars a ticket, and even if you've paid enough money to buy high enough level gear to win in the fight, it's still a 1/20 chance to even get a reward, after you paid several thousand per member of your party.

NFTs just sounds like a fancy name for a loot distribution system. Like what is the functional difference between NFT collectables in games and existing server side inventories that have tradable items? Like you could call items in diablo 2 NFTs and functionally they are no different to a diablo clone where drops actually are NFTs.

      Anonymous

They exist on a blockchain as pointers to the actual item, so the computation is way more expensive and people can pretend that they are special for some reason. NFTbros pretend that because the thing exists on a blockchain that the thing is community managed, but in truth the whole thing is entirely dependent on the entity hosting the thing the blockchain thing is pointing to.

It cant actually be hacked. What its hacked are companies with centralized systems. And defi shit.
It would literally take the energy output of the sun for a trillion years to "hack" btc. And the tech advances so much you can actually crack it, the chain would just ugprade to use that same tech for encryption. You should have bought chainlink bro when we told you and sold at +30usd, No amount of crying will change that.

You had the chance. Then you had the chance to mine with your gpu (my current 3080 and 3070 paid themselves mining withing 6 months). So while you were complaining about the prices of gpus, that only meant free gpus for me.
      >Cryptomining is over? finally you can get a cheap gpu?
NO! Now the AI fade started. We beern in Ganker fooling with that shit for almost 2 years now. You could have made a lot of money with it, with the jumpstart we have. Hell, you can still can. But no, you will spend the next 2 years complaining about AI and the prices of gpus.
Pc gaming used to be for tech savvy people. Then it became dumbified and consolised so people like you could enter. And now its back for tech savvy people. If you arent tech savvy, you cant profit from new techs and you cant buy a 3000 usd pc. Meanwhile, we get them for free.

Yes, thats what I said. Some companies just like normal companies got hacked. BTC and decent POW crypto cant be hacked.
If someone manages to crack 256bits encryption then the last of your issues would be the price of btc. It would be airports, security, military bases, banks, everything.

So far I haven't seen a single NFT where people bought thing because it has some intrinsic value.
All who bought it bought it only with one goal in mind: To sell it for more. No value was created. It's basically a hot potato becoming rapidly hotter and you have to throw it to someone else before you burn.
That's why they use such manipulative language, to bait you into buying it so you will be the idiot, not them.
In reality the only one who makes money in those NFT scams is the one that makes the game. It goes pump and dump really fast.

You'll be lucky to extract stuff that you someone would want for free. Just ask Ubisoft.

an absolute nightmare against cheaters. We're still 4-6 years away from completely eliminating cheaters/hackers. That Microsoft embedded
security chip (forgot name) in the new gen CPU's will be used soon as a fool-proof hardware ban in competitive games.

if that chip is just being added that would mean we're over a decade away from using it to ban cheaters. and then they can just buy a new CPU and keep cheating any way. there's only one actual solution to cheating and it's real life ID. you have to ID yourself with your real name, face, number on your fricking passport, whatever it takes to make sure you what the devs have is in fact the data of a real person which they can then subsequently ban from their game for cheating.

Why does anyone at all have any kind of unironic faith in ANYTHING NFT related? Has he been living under a rock for the last few years? How deluded does he have to be to think the millions upon millions of members of the public are going to swing around and start loving NFTs? How the frick are these things still being artificially kept into relevance?

it sounds more like tarkov with NFTs. im curious to see how the IRS and FTC buttfrick him for trying to get children to play with things that have direct monetary value. Then again Logan Paul has been doing this shit for years and it seems very evident the government is too fricking stupid to figure out how crypto and NFTs even work

Because it's "one of a kind"!
      >immediately creates 5000 more that are identical except each one has a different particle effect made from a combination of color, brightness, density, and particle effect shape
Ok, who even caaaares that your ultimate super mega cape with lime green low density dim star sparkles is functionally identical to joebob's ultimate super mega cape with tangerine high density medium brightness triangle shimmers, they're ONE OF A KIND, the value will NEVER DROP!

The only possible way it would be is if the item does something in the game, and the game is a P2W hellscape where you have to invest thousands of dollars to stand a chance. Every time someone tries to hype up NFTs in games it's just the worst thing you can imagine, really the only analogy is the original MTG rules where winning a game meant you could permanently take one of your opponent's cards. No one actually played that way and the rule got removed almost immediately because the idea is complete cancer.

Someone who thinks they can sell it later for more. NFTs are basically high stakes Hot Potato, and eventually someone is getting left with a worthless spud.

      Anonymous

You won't. What these places do is make a "super ultra rare charizard pikachu" spawn in a game with only paid shill streamers and the streamer's friends in it. The streamer "wins" the "$100k" item. The company that makes the game buys the asset from the streamer for the fake price.

The market price is now set and morons will pay $10k+ for literally nothing because it's a ~~*deal*~~.

That or someone with multiple accounts or a small group trades an item to each other for increasing amounts to build it's value, then pass it off to a sucker who thinks they can keep riding that "value" and frick off with the money to do it to someone else later.

a game where you could make that much money from playing would either be filled with bots/third world gold farmers or require a significant amount of money to even start. possibly both.

I've still yet to see a good reason why or how devs would code 10000 NFTs into their game that were bought or earned in other games

morons have no idea how anything works. I'm not even directing this at the streamer homosexual, he obviously just wants a get rich quick scheme to dump on bag holding morons. I'm talking about the morons that defend this. Organized crime would be over this like Tyrone over your overweight, geriatric mother, if you can actually get rich quick. Hackers are the least of your worries, there would literally be deaths, and kidnappings over this if the payout is high enough. God knows people killed for far less, and cheat and hack for literally nothing. People in Africa and Asia risk their lives for like $5k, to them $50k is frick you I'm set for life money. There's nothing they would stop at to make it. I'd love to see a moron reddiot advertise his rare find, then end up kidnapped the next day.
