In that gamemode you and your teammates go across the map completing objectives until you hit the final objective which is to set up a defense around this machine called an ARC generator and defend it until it finishes transmitting some shit and then make a run for the dropship and extract. Technically there's base building during the part where you have to set up defenses but you've only got 90 seconds to do so, so it's not so much base building as it is hastily setting up a defensive perimeter.
I have to wonder if they bothered playtesting this even once before launching it with how awful the weapon balance is. Anyone not rolling the Semi-auto rifle is so useless they might as well not even have a gun
the SAW and marksman rifle should have stun instead of stagger. missing because enemies take a step back from stagger instead of being frozen in place like the heavy pistol does with stun is bullshit.
There was a whole beta test a few months ago and the game was way funner and more balanced back then. They nerfed basically everything except for the operator which they made stupidly OP for no reason. I used to be able to solo entire hordes as a Heavy trooper but now I can barely hold off low tier mobs of enemies and when I am effective I just run out of ammo instantly which hey guess what, only the OPERATOR can solve by dropping me reserve mags. Game is still fun but I'm pissed with how braindead their response to the beta test has been.

I help when I can but there's a lot of times when there's not a whole lot you can do. Sometimes people decide to lollygag around the base instead of getting ready to book it as soon as the ARC finishes transmitting and sometimes they just fall behind everyone else or get separated when running towards the dropship and wind up caught up in the horde of insects. Either way, they're generally fucked and there's not much you can do for them
Thats the first thing people who play hunter figure out dummy. The problem is it not working at all if you activate it on a ramp and just slides you across the floor.
Outside of overwatching a central building with the semiauto picking off random bugs to help resource runners your pretty much worthless. You dont keep your speed buff if you try to help resources and you cant really hold down a point like bastion can. Their plan might have been to have you manage the bug spawns to keep the threat level down or the rogue grenadiers, but you dont have anything that can do either of those in an efficient timeframe.
Ill be interested to see how they handle it so all three classes can be viable.

DRG feels like it's on par with this game in terms of lack of content. You've got three primary and three secondary weapons for each class and once you've unlocked them there's not a lot of interesting new shit to get aside from cosmetics. Here there's at least promise for more variety in weapons and equipment. With DRG the only thing to look forward to down the road are more cosmetics.

The game has this stupid part of collecting resources when nothing happens, then you go to base building, that's where your video happens, you get flooded with bugs. The game definitely has multiple OH SHIT moments where you're flooded with bugs as the base falls apart but it needs a ton more work.
bases in the final holdout 9/10 gets flooded, rarely do the bugs never breach, however the main core has alot of health so even tho it looks 'OH SHIT' you never really lose
You under-estimate the incompetence of players. I've had more success with Chinese/Asian players than Americans in this game. At least if a structure goes down they have the brain power to figure out you repair it to close the gap up.
I think a lot of players fail to realize that repairing broken structures is free and can be done whenever. Half the time a wall or bunker goes down no one repairs it.
You also only have to repair like 1% of it to make the object physically appear again. In other words you just literally click on a damaged wall for a second and the whole wall comes up and the bug horde is instantly cut off. It's REALLY easy to plug breaches up.

In theory I'm okay with this because it promotes teamwork, but in practice is feels more like an afterthought than core gameplay. The chances of an operator or hunter deciding to give up a whole equipment slot for ammo and then being big brained enough to coordinate with heavies attempting to dig in somewhere is extremely low. I also think it's dumb that those two classes should have to give up all their other unique toys just to make the baseline heavy trooper functional.
To any other struggling heavies, equip the heavy pistol and abuse the fuck out of it. Only use your MG when you absolutely have to. The pistol one shots the little drones, and it stunlocks warriors and puts them down with just a few shots. The amount of ammo you save by blasting stray bugs with your pistol instead of your MG is really game changing. It's just annoying that you even need to maximize your arsenal in such a way to hit baseline effectiveness when the other classes can spray and pray without thinking about (despite heavy supposedly BEING the spray and pray class).
I hope they don't nerf the scout rifle but instead make the other guns less dogshit.
This, I like the rifle as it is, the others just need a boost back to the alpha test levels of power.

I'd be less pissed off about it if all classes didn't get the healing beacon at level 19. operator has stims and healing station as unique options that don't matter because anyone can heal.
Give the base rifle the shotgun as a alt fire instead of ADS, and encourage bursting as more effective. Carbine i like but it needs a little boost as well to ROF and damage. Default pistol is terrible, magnum is bae.
C4 is too clunky, needs to be toss and smash the trigger like a BF game. Right now it feels stupid trying to drop one behind yourself as you back pedal.
Grenades should have different ammo counts depending on type, the cool down is also dumb. Make it ammo based.
Jet pack should be duration of button pressed not one and done. Overheats if you pop it fully. Would help crossing smaller gaps and increase mobility.
Personally i want more gore for both sides and death animations like in the movie. Bleed out is a little too Squad. i think a more left 4 dead style "trapped/struggle" leading to brutal death would be more in line with the movie. Save your squad mate and then heal or they could just get insta killed. Watching bodies get torn up and tossed around that used to be your team is far more interesting and "fun" then rag doll bleed out in a corner.

Honestly it's more like what I wish Sandlot would do with EDF multiplayer: co-op with a fuck ton of players and being able to join midgame instead of only having 4 player co-op where you're stuck sitting in the lobby staring at the screen or playing on your phone until the current mission is over (which can sometimes take half an hour or longer)

not if you have ammo dispenser. player rearmed is 20xp, player revived is 30xp, tagging a grenadier is 100xp, tiger 50xp, marksman rifle has no cooldown on its long range accuracy.
As it stands Bastion levels the slowest as he only kills bugs, he doesn’t support any other way. All he can do is kill bugs for xp, so he needs something else to make up the difference.

Increase the little RE2 defensive emplacement width, add a passive heal rate or buff when others are inside.
Gunner bugs should either have brighter tracers or do the whole laser pointer "hey you're being aimed at retard move" thing, they can instagib Hunters and half the time you won't even know where the hell it came from since they have seemingly unlimited range.
That's exactly how it should be. It's a co-op game. No class should be a one man army. The dude with the big brrrr brrrr machinegun should get fucked if he doesn't have someone with an ammo resupply backing him up to feed his ammo hungry weapon

Bastion's my favorite class for ARC missions. I mostly just do comfy patrols around the perimeter of the base killing bugs chewing on the walls and patrolling between the base and resource points, stopping to kill any bugs that pop up or escorting someone if I come across them carrying ore/gas alone
It's a UE4 horde defense game. It chugs more during waves and is decently stable outside of them. your CPU probably matters more. Im on a 2070 and get good frames but i also have it paired with a 9700K.
You don't even need a whole squad on defense, 2-3 guys can handle it in most cases, especially since reinforcements will be coming and going as they bring canisters. Throw auto turrets into the mix and two guys can hold it down pretty easily. As for how many dudes on an away mission, it just depends on how far away from HQ it is.
Depends on competence. I have seen some horrible defense builds with complete holes left unattended. Single stack walls with no access, Turrets blocked from LOS, and ammo all piled in the same spot. ARC especially seems to suffer from the "Squad incompetence syndrome". Still a blast to play even when your team is garbage, which is more then i can say for Squad.
You guys have any recs for stuff like Starship Troopers but it takes the second half of the story much more seriously. Like I love the whole teenagers go way above their heads only to realize "oh fuck war isn't fun."

I never really put much thought into it until you mentioned it but the numbers are kind of fucking weird. Why are there five squads if the player limit is 16? It'd make sense if the player limit was 20 but with 16 you've got an entire squad that could potentially be outright empty or only have 1-3 members

I don't trust tencent to not garden gnome it up with battlepass shit or some sort of cosmetic microtransactions. Do you need to have a full group of friends to play or does it have matchmaking of sorts? I remember being excited for gtfo, but no matchmaking for a good while and the focus on melee/sneaking rather than firefights like the early preview trailers showed soured me on it.

If you don't make it to the ship, you don't get your "trooper extracted" bonus exp (25exp per player on the ship). No amount of kills would really make up for it, unless you're literally the last person left and can kill a few tigers or something.

Hell, I want to see Planetside scale with land sea and air coop, the ARC mode in this seems like it would work for a persistent map game at that scale. DRG feels like it's on par with this game in terms of lack of content. You've got three primary and three secondary weapons for each class and once you've unlocked them there's not a lot of interesting new shit to get aside from cosmetics. Here there's at least promise for more variety in weapons and equipment. With DRG the only thing to look forward to down the road are more cosmetics.

The game has this stupid part of collecting resources when nothing happens, then you go to base building, that's where your video happens, you get flooded with bugs. The game definitely has multiple OH SHIT moments where you're flooded with bugs as the base falls apart but it needs a ton more work.
bases in the final holdout 9/10 gets flooded, rarely do the bugs never breach, however the main core has alot of health so even tho it looks 'OH SHIT' you never really lose
You under-estimate the incompetence of players. I've had more success with Chinese/Asian players than Americans in this game. At least if a structure goes down they have the brain power to figure out you repair it to close the gap up.
I think a lot of players fail to realize that repairing broken structures is free and can be done whenever. Half the time a wall or bunker goes down no one repairs it.
You also only have to repair like 1% of it to make the object physically appear again. In other words you just literally click on a damaged wall for a second and the whole wall comes up and the bug horde is instantly cut off. It's REALLY easy to plug breaches up.
In theory I'm okay with this because it promotes teamwork, but in practice is feels more like an afterthought than core gameplay. The chances of an operator or hunter deciding to give up a whole equipment slot for ammo and then being big brained enough to coordinate with heavies attempting to dig in somewhere is extremely low. I also think it's dumb that those two classes should have to give up all their other unique toys just to make the baseline heavy trooper functional.
To any other struggling heavies, equip the heavy pistol and abuse the fuck out of it. Only use your MG when you absolutely have to. The pistol one shots the little drones, and it stunlocks warriors and puts them down with just a few shots. The amount of ammo you save by blasting stray bugs with your pistol instead of your MG is really game changing. It's just annoying that you even need to maximize your arsenal in such a way to hit baseline effectiveness when the other classes can spray and pray without thinking about (despite heavy supposedly BEING the spray and pray class).
This, I like the rifle as it is, the others just need a boost back to the alpha test levels of power.
There was an SST mod for Squad that this whole game is based on, that's the only reason it gets brought up in the threads. Never played it so can't say how good it was.

I'd be less pissed off about it if all classes didn't get the healing beacon at level 19. operator has stims and healing station as unique options that don't matter because anyone can heal.
Give the base rifle the shotgun as a alt fire instead of ADS, and encourage bursting as more effective. Carbine i like but it needs a little boost as well to ROF and damage. Default pistol is terrible, magnum is bae.
C4 is too clunky, needs to be toss and smash the trigger like a BF game. Right now it feels stupid trying to drop one behind yourself as you back pedal.
Grenades should have different ammo counts depending on type, the cool down is also dumb. Make it ammo based.
Jet pack should be duration of button pressed not one and done. Overheats if you pop it fully. Would help crossing smaller gaps and increase mobility.
Personally i want more gore for both sides and death animations like in the movie. Bleed out is a little too Squad. i think a more left 4 dead style "trapped/struggle" leading to brutal death would be more in line with the movie. Save your squad mate and then heal or they could just get insta killed. Watching bodies get torn up and tossed around that used to be your team is far more interesting and "fun" then rag doll bleed out in a corner.

I just had a 45 minute ARC match where it was bugs shooting bugs who didnt bother even try to get resources and we lost because everyone ran out of ammo

Honestly it's more like what I wish Sandlot would do with EDF multiplayer: co-op with a fuck ton of players and being able to join midgame instead of only having 4 player co-op where you're stuck sitting in the lobby staring at the screen or playing on your phone until the current mission is over (which can sometimes take half an hour or longer)

not if you have ammo dispenser. player rearmed is 20xp, player revived is 30xp, tagging a grenadier is 100xp, tiger 50xp, marksman rifle has no cooldown on its long range accuracy.
If we got do for repairing structures or assisting in objectives it might encourage people to do it more often.

As it stands Bastion levels the slowest as he only kills bugs, he doesn’t support any other way. All he can do is kill bugs for xp, so he needs something else to make up the difference.
without a change specifically to bastion it's just going to keep it slower than other classes.
people seem to have a blast playing it so I dont think the slow progression is going to particularly affect them, especially since most bastion players are dumber than a box of rocks
Increase the little RE2 defensive emplacement width, add a passive heal rate or buff when others are inside.
Gunner bugs should either have brighter tracers or do the whole laser pointer "hey you're being aimed at retard move" thing, they can instagib Hunters and half the time you won't even know where the hell it came from since they have seemingly unlimited range.

AAS is easy on hard; ARC Slam on hard has a ton of brainlets that don't kill patrols and you get hit with the endless hoard.

Bastion's my favorite class for ARC missions. I mostly just do comfy patrols around the perimeter of the base killing bugs chewing on the walls and patrolling between the base and resource points, stopping to kill any bugs that pop up or escorting someone if I come across them carrying ore/gas alone

It's a UE4 horde defense game. It chugs more during waves and is decently stable outside of them. your CPU probably matters more. Im on a 2070 and get good frames but i also have it paired with a 9700K.

You don't even need a whole squad on defense, 2-3 guys can handle it in most cases, especially since reinforcements will be coming and going as they bring canisters. Throw auto turrets into the mix and two guys can hold it down pretty easily. As for how many dudes on an away mission, it just depends on how far away from HQ it is.
Depends on competence. I have seen some horrible defense builds with complete holes left unattended. Single stack walls with no access, Turrets blocked from LOS, and ammo all piled in the same spot. ARC especially seems to suffer from the "Squad incompetence syndrome". Still a blast to play even when your team is garbage, which is more then i can say for Squad.
You guys have any recs for stuff like Starship Troopers but it takes the second half of the story much more seriously. Like I love the whole teenagers go way above their heads only to realize "oh fuck war isn't fun."

the fact that the enemies are AI makes it much scarier, it is basically like 4 player Outlast, run, hide, try to escape, the enemies are from the first 2 games.

I never really put much thought into it until you mentioned it but the numbers are kind of fucking weird. Why are there five squads if the player limit is 16? It'd make sense if the player limit was 20 but with 16 you've got an entire squad that could potentially be outright empty or only have 1-3 members
it's probably to give premade groups options, there's plenty of stuff that a two or three man team can accomplish in ARC missions.

it takes an hour to set up, can be canceled if a warrior knocks you back, only has one charge, and it can't even wipe out the retards camping outside the drop ship. if you're going to retard charge to the feet of a grenadier just place a scan beacon, you get three, they last forever and they cause enemies to take double damage.

If you don't make it to the ship, you don't get your "trooper extracted" bonus exp (25exp per player on the ship). No amount of kills would really make up for it, unless you're literally the last person left and can kill a few tigers or something.

Thats one thing I like about this ST game, wish more games did more than 4 player coop. Hell, I want to see Planetside scale with land sea and air coop, the ARC mode in this seems like it would work for a persistent map game at that scale. I dont know what the "war map" option is that isnt in the game yet but I hope its something more like that.
