Supreme Commander's nukes are exactly as they sound like, especially the super nuke in Forged Alliance.

Civ 3 they were pretty brutal if I recall but it's been quite awhile, and Call to Power they fricked shit up (although I think the ecoterrorist bombs were worse in that one, those were brutal to tile improvements).

HoI4 needs to feature weapon caches. That way you can hurt the enemy by directly bombing their equipment stockpiles.

In addition to repugnant and odious resolution the encoding is appalling resulting is barely any visibility of what's even happening in the video.

To state the obvious its game balance. They don't want it to devolve into tech tree rushing to Nukes. I would like to see a Warno/Wargame Red Dragon where you could maybe use a nuke though. As its own campaign scenario or something like that.

Nukes are pretty powerful in Supreme Commander, and not prohibitively expensive to make either (though their counter, SMD, is cheaper than them). It's common to see nukes in SupCom and when they successfully deploy they are quite devastating, capable of wiping out huge amounts of enemy buildings or troops in one shot.

They are countered by SMD launchers, but those are fragile and if you take them out with an air raid or something, you're then free to waste the enemy's base. Or if they're just stupid and don't bother building SMD. They're also useful on large formations of lategame naval vessels, since those take a while to move out of the way and represent large concentrations of resource investment. Plus, those tend to be away from protective SMD.

It's not the game-ending superweapon you seem to be after (unless your opponent fricks up, anyway), but in SC2 nukes are pretty good. Not too expensive per, large AoE with good amount of damage, and you probably want ghosts anyway for late game (unless you're playing against terran) because they're just a generally good and versatile unit. Only downside is that you can only have one nuke per ghost academy at a time.

In hoi3 nukes were a major disappointment. They dont even kills units. Just lower national unity and frick up the target's infrastructure. In fact the way they do that is moronic too. Drop one nuke and it lowers NU by a substantial amount, making it easier to force a surrender. But it is rarely enough. Do it to Japan and you will still have to invade the mainland anyway. Dropping more nukes later on has minimal effect on NU. The trick I learned from reading the forums was to drop a stack of Nukes all on the same day. Within the same 24 hour period. So three nukes on Tokyo all within the same day should make them surrender, providing you have already taken a few of their other overseas VPs.
But at the end of the day making nukes was such a long and laborious process that it is much much easier to just simply invade them.

they do kill units, or at least bring them down to very low strength which is effectively the same thing, but they are pretty underwhelming, pretty fun in multiplayer if you manage to snipe a stack of expensive units though

For all of its massive flaws, nukes in Humankind are do disgusting things. They leave nothing standing.

HoI4 has shit nukes (with the exception of dropping them on airfields) but a fair few overhauls fix that notably Equestria at War.

I always liked the way Highfleet did nukes, even if they are of the smaller tactical type.
