>Does no fricking damage at all
>Find a .22 repeater
>Like 5 times as much damage as the AK
>What the frick?
>Download weapon rebalance mod
>Now the AK is the best gun in the game by a massive margin. Kill zombies in 1 or 2 shots, people in 2 or 3, full auto, 20 round magazine, ammo is super plentiful since it's a tier 1 weapon
>No point in buying the other guns because none of them have the damage or the range to beat the AK
>I am forced to pick between realistic guns in a game that feels like it wants to be immersive and realistic or progression that makes sense

What would you do, Gankerro?

    the rule for me is:
never dowload a mod until you finish the base game first.

unless its some old 199x game that need a mod to make the game playable

In other words, never try to improve average games you know you'll never replay.

        exactly
first, you always play the base game like devs intended the game to be played.
if you like the game then enjoy it more with mods.
if not, just play another game, life is short so just play games while you still can

Or maybe mods can fix the things you didn't enjoy

That's a really stupid question. I have to finish the entire game to not like the fact that a 7.62x39mm does less damage than a .22LR? If the game has a feature where you die and have to go back 2 hours if you take 2 steps to the left, I can't decide whether or not I dislike that until I finish the whole game?

game like that would be moronic and you would be a moron to even play a game like that

but if you're unable to complete the game just because your favorite gun isn't doing the realistic amount damage then you're autistic as frick

just accept that single shot weapons are almost always stronger than fully auto guns in vidya

I'm not from the US so I know jackshit about guns. Can it fire little pieces of lead? Then it's useful.

The .22LR is what the repeater is firing, and the 7.62x39mm is what the AK is firing. The AK has a way bigger bullet, and the amount of gunpowder in the casing makes it come out way way faster than the .22. a .22 hitting harder than a 7.62 is moronic.

This game is a piece of shit that could have been great. But it's a piece of shit.

What could it have done better in your opinion? I enjoyed the hell out of it and saw no faults other than the stereotypical "humans are worse than zombies" trope.

What difficulty were you on? I'm on hard II right now, and without the mods the bulletsponging is beyond ridiculous. I just turned the mods off to see if the game would be more enjoyable without them. I ran into a bear that took 25 rounds from my pistol, 6 rounds from a hunting rifle, 2 point blank headshots from a shotgun, a molotov, a pipe bomb, and like 30 swings from a machete to take down. A normal human can take 3 rounds to the chest from a hunting rifle and walk away. It's moronic on high difficulty.

Just remove all the mandatory to progress filler content that padded out a 20 hour game into JRPG tier length

        - My playthrough was on survival mode so no minimap/compass and no way to "downgrade" to normal mode, so I fully saw just how boring most of it is and why people would end up just using fast travel everywhere instead.
        - With that said, hordes are just a bore to kill on high difficulty. They're not smarter or intermingled with different kinds of zombies, they're just tanking more damage and forcing you to run/grab shit/craft perpetually.
        - Frick the crafting system for making you wait over and over again even though it's on a slow-down menu. Make that stuff instant.
        - Even at high difficulties it's just not hard, I barely ever needed to find plants and make wienertails except maybe for stamina wienertails as my NAVY SEAL BIKER can't run a fricking mile before giving up.
        - Story beats are all over the place, the pacing is horribly done (the whole beginning without boozer, the wife stuff, the back and forth between areas, the camps, even the boozer-related ending shenanigans..). It either drags on forever, or goes straight up to 11, never finding a proper pace.
        - Weapons don't feel impactful. Grenades and AoE things barely registered against hordes.
        - The fricking radio and missions always wait for your ass to get out of the camp to be sent to you, and it happens within seconds. Literally no immersion.
        - The stations where you need to cut off power are a good bit of side content to earn your rest, but they haven't done anything special with them besides "find the fuel, cut the power, oops there was a hidden one you hadn't noticed". And you find boring upgrades in there, barely anything lore-wise, no variations in setup. Same for bunkers.
        - Boring chopper missions over and over again

Basically this whole game is like a template for a good game, but they just pushed the template instead of the game.

In almost every single aspect the game comes very close to being great but fails. Makes me wish the game got a sequel where they were allowed to iron out all the wrinkles, it could have been great.

typos: I meant restore power, and cut off power to the speakers.
Fun stuff the first time, especially if you arrive at night. Boring every time afterwards.

And I also forgot to add: the random encounters where you save npcs are the worst thing in this game, and the devs knew because they didn't even bother anything about it (especially that godawful "thank you" part)

    I'd play something else.
The only interesting thing are the hordes of enemies and those get boring fairly quickly.
I finished it and never plan on playing it again. What a piece of mediocre shit.

I played on hard and the AK still 1 shot headshot like every other gun but with a huge ammo reserve unlike the 20 bullets you get for the other guns. Never really used any other weapon besides the LMG

I've played the game unmodded and the AK carried me until I unlocked the bullpup.
I've tried the rifles but they were all shit, no idea why you claim they are 5 times stronger.
Humans and freakers die with a single headshot.
If anything the rifles need a buff since they have lower ammo pool, lower mag capacity and similar damage as the ARs without making it up via proper armor and body penetration.

idk I just played through the game normally without being all autismo about vidya guns not representing their real life counterparts

also the high damage weapons generally had frick all max ammo
