Me: 3 STR, dagger.
Your damage: 1d6, 1 attack per round
My damage: 1x6, 2 attacks per round
Yeah, you're gonna abandon 5e because of the OGL and go back to OD&D.

B/X is the way forward
I can't even tell what argument you're trying to make. Is this a bot post?
>I can't even tell what argument you're trying to make
Ah, another perfect 5e customer. What's your favorite bit of Critical Role merch you've bought in the past 3 months?
Show me the page in OD&D where it says you get 1x6 damage and two attacks using a dagger.
The crazy thing about OD&D was they had more playtest hours before publication than 99% of new games published since. I'm convinced well over half of new games never had a single playtest hour.
Yes, the whole hobby was brand new and hindsight is 20/20. I give a complete pass to something like descending AC. But there are a few things like the dagger loophole that really should have been caught.
No I'm going to play Whitehack with a good bit of OSE if I want to play OD&D.
OD&D as written works nothing like that, idiot.
>OD&D as written works nothing like that, idiot.
You sound upset about your Dungeons & Daggers, groggie.
No but instead of you I actually know OD&D pretty well.
*unlike you
ESL + moron + schizo
How is 0D&D related to DND1e?
OD&D is really only useful to inform yourself on the RAI. Also, in that edition thief was the optional overpowered class.
1e refers to Gygax's 1977 "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons" which forked from "Basic Dungeons & Dragons" aka B/X and BECMI. Most OSR rules are based on B/X not on 1e (although, OSRIC, probably kicking off the "OSR" is a near clone of 1e)
I think he just made a typo on that 1x6 thing and meant 1d6
>I think he just made a typo on that 1x6 thing and meant 1d6
Yes but there's no rule saying you get to attack twice per round if you have a dagger.
He's talking about backstabbing he's just an idiot.
I dare you to try a game in pic related. If after that you still prefer playing 5e it's probably because you may suffer from brain terminal cancer.
All weapons in OD&D deal 1d6 damage unless you have Chainmail (and nobody did), and Strength simply determines how quickly you level. You are simply making things up.
This is a lie, because OD&D does not allow dual wielding and the only class that can make multiple attacks in a turn is the fighter, whom you can't play unless you have decent strength.
Dumbass.
You can play a fighter with Strength 3, you just level slower.
>3 str non-fighter with a dagger
>1d20-3 to hit 1d4-3 for damage
>35% chance to hit a peasant with only linen clothes (absolute best scenario) with another 25% chance to actually do a single point of damage
>18 str fighter
>1d20+3 to hit with 1d10+3 damage
>35% change to hit a knight in full plate and able to one shot an average 2nd level fighter with an average swing
In B/X you only get an additional attack if you're 15th level fighter, so there's no way you'd get more than one attack. Even in white box's alternative rules don't include additional attacks.
Chainmail rules with 1974 D&D give you even worse odds, as you'd need to: survive the first blow from the defender which is at least a 7 (in the worst case) on a 2d6+3 (91% chance) with 1d6+3 damage, and roll above a 6 with 2d6-3 (27% chance) in the best scenario to even hit once. The likelihood of the 3 str dagger welder hitting the other person at least once with three attacks per round --again in the best case scenario-- is 36% chance of happening. Even then, half the time you get a hit, it won't do any damage. If the guy you're going up against has at least chainmail armor, you'd need crits to hit him.
This is the worst bait thread I've ever seen. If you wanted people to know something about chainmail to explain man-to-man combat to you, just go to /osrg/ and shitpost there. I'm sure someone there has a cheatsheet of this bullshit.
