You must not play a lot of games. Halo's movement, especially CE's, is terrible. It's slow, slippery, and the jump is delayed.

I did, but you ignored those points due to some sort of combination between mental retardation and terminal contrarianism.

you said it has a delay. What is delayed? The moon jump or the actual response from the button?

The actual response from the button. It takes about a half second after pressing A to actually start to leave the ground.

There is an in-story reason, however. Master Chief is a heavy motherfucker.

Using story as justification for gameplay is what has gotten us the 343 games.

I've played CE's campaign probably around 40 times. The delay in jumping is negligible. I can't think of a single time I died because of it.

I've played multiplayer plenty, but Halo has always been about the campaign for me.

It's an annoyance that doesn't need to be there, and is more annoying in multiplayer where you actually need to jump to get places. It doesn't need to be there, and I don't know why "it hasn't killed me lol" is a good enough reason to make the game worse.
Yeah, I never got the hype.
The level design sucks.
Enemies have regenerating shields.
It feels like its designed for American 12 year olds who worship the marines
The flood are made up of the most annoying enemy archetypes in FPS games
the large open area vehicle sections are actually fun but you only get a brief taste of those.
I mean, you can't really enjoy the warthog without a second player, and the multiplayer was a hit sensation at the time. Seems obvious.

The multiplayer that barely made it to launch?

The multiplayer that they squeezed in because they knew it was awesome.
Anonymous
So you're not denying that the multiplayer was on the chopping block. Seems weird that the game would be intended to play in co-op when they were so close to not even having multiplayer at all.
Anonymous
It wasn't on the chopping block. They added it towards the end once realizing how superior an experience multiplayer was. Early Bungie was almost like an indie studio, they just experimented with shit until they found things that worked.
Playing Halo solo is just pointless. You can't enjoy the vehicles properly that way, and the regenerating shields system works far better when you can aggro enemies with another player.
Anonymous
>They added it towards the end
Wrong. They had pvp as early as the Mac demo, but the mode barely made it to the final release. It was made by one full-time employee and a bunch of interns.
You have no proof that Halo was designed primarily as a co-op game, it's all headcannon.

Regardless, Halo is a much better game in co-op and it has systems that complement it over singleplayer.

Halo co-op makes the game too easy because death only matters if you both die. You respawn with full ammo on the best gun in the game.

I'll take a loss in challenge over not being able to fully fuck with the vehicles or cut down the spongebath enemies on Legendary in half the time.

That's why later CE releases added the Iron skull and made the player respawn with a plasma pistol.

The plasma pistol IS the best weapon in CE singleplayer. It's the only gun that's perfectly accurate, can be fired as fast as you pull the trigger, does bonus damage against shields, and the most common and weakest enemy drops it.
Anonymous
Is it really? I've never really used it extensively. Eh, iron still fixes co-op difficulty, and even with the best weapon it will still be challenging on legendary.

Yeah, I get it. You never played the original, you just know what reddit and ecelebs(who also never played the game) complain about.
>It feels like its designed for American 12 year olds who worship the marines
It was literally funded by the CIA to brainwash people to join the military. Read Operation Haldeman. Psyops in the chat will delete this post before most can google.
Yeah 1 is about passable. They improve with 2 and peak at 3. I personally don't recommend anything after that. Reach is OK but a different direction. ODST is awful.
I played the game on steam like a year ago, and I found the flood the only fun part of the game. It was fun not having to deal with any bullet sponge enemies.
CE really only has a few stand out levels. I really enjoy it though, fun physics and pretty good weapons. Although 2 and 3 improve on it in many ways, I still enjoy CE and think it has the best aesthetics of the series.
Boredom is a common emotion when engaging with one of the dullest franchises in the history of FPS franchises. Seriously each episode following the space marine and his pals from the UNSC as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the slow gameplay, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of mechanics, all to make movement molasses, to make bullets seem magnetic.
Perhaps the die was cast when Bungie vetoed the idea of Apple funding the series; they made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for directx. The Halo series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Perfect Dark series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to with 343i.
>a-at least the single player was good though
"No!"
The level design is dreadful; the single player was terrible. As I played, I noticed that every time I went for a walk, the designer instead put an un-involved corridor in my path.
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time a corridor was encountered. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Bungie's mind is so governed by cliches and flat topography that they have no other style of gameplay. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Halo by the same Jason West. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are playing Halo at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to play Call of Duty." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play "Halo” you are, in fact, trained to play Call of Duty.

All negative comments are shit and are not valid. But honestly, if you are playing this 20 years later, what do you expect? When it came out it was fucking God for some. Level design may not be for everyone, but it kind of made sense. You don’t always build facilities to impress, in that sense. But the gameplay, the GAMEPLAY! Every time you booted this up - it felt different, enemies were fun AF to kill. You could also fuck around with the physics, trying to blow shit up different ways, getting the warthog to places it shouldn’t have been able to reach. This along with the coop play and the music - ab legendary af. Now, unless you see it for what it is, it will not impress you anywhere near as when it was released. Still in my top 5 fps of all time
Why?
It never really gets better.
It's a co-op game intended to be played by sci-fi fans with a controller
military sci-fi*
to be more precise
>playing a shooter on a non-gyro controller
why the fuck would anyone do that
So they can relax with their buds on the couch
how can you relax when you're playing a game with bad movement and controls?
Good thing Halo doesn't have bad controls or movement
You must not play a lot of games. Halo's movement, especially CE's, is terrible. It's slow, slippery, and the jump is delayed.

The charged shot in CE is awful.
How so? Keep in mind the game is 2 player.
The tracking is bad, you're better off just hammering the trigger as fast as you can.
The game HAS 2-player. Got any source that it was intended to be played that way over singleplayer?

Most of the Flood related missions suck (unless it also features Covenant fighting them too), even if Flood is pretty fucking scary.

Play it on heroic or legendary or else it's going to be boring.
easy is pretty fun especially with the spooky elite jumpscare in the first level
This game was more fun for its MP. The second one improved pretty much on everything.
stick with it til the library if you wanna see just how hilariously shit it becomes
